RAR 3.80 / 3.90 Beta 4

RAR 3.80 / 3.90 Beta 4

RAR is a powerful archive manager. more>>
RAR 3.80 / 3.90 Beta 4 is a well-known and extremely powerful archive utility for everyone. It allows you to manage and control archive files. Console RAR supports archives only in RAR format, the names of which usually have a ".rar" extension. ZIP and other formats are not supported. Windows users may install GUI RAR version - WinRAR, which is able to process much more archive types.
The trial version has a 40-day usage limit.

Major Features:

  1. RAR introduces an original compression algorithm. It allows higher compression ratios than other PC archiving tools, especially on executable files, object libraries, large text files, etc.
  2. RAR offers an optional compression algorithm highly optimized for multimedia data.
  3. RAR provides functionality for creating a solid archive, which can raise the compression ratio by 10% 50% over more common methods, particularly when packing large numbers of small files.
  4. RAR offers the ability to create and change SFX archives using default and external SFX modules.
  5. RAR offers the ability to create a multi-volume archive as SFX.
  6. RAR offers a number of service functions, such as setting a password, adding archive and file comments. Even physically damaged archives may be repaired and an archive may be locked to prevent further changes. Authenticity information may be added for additional security and RAR will store information on the last update and name of the archive.

Enhancements:

  • WinRAR version for Windows x64 is available. If you use Windows x64, it is strongly recommended to install 64 bit WinRAR version. It provides a higher performance and better shell integration than 32 bit version.
  • RAR compression speed is improved for multi-core and multi-CPU systems. This improvement is most noticeable in Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems.
  • "Remove duplicate folders from extraction path" option in "Settings/Compression" dialog is replaced by more universal "Remove redundant folders from extraction path" option. This option will eliminate redundant archive name based folders from extraction path if you unpack an archive with "Extract to DestName" context menu command and if archive root folder contains only one folder and no files.
  • Changes in "Extraction path and options" dialog:
    • "New folder" button creates a new subfolder in currently selected folder;
    • F2 key renames a selected folder in the folders tree;
    • F5 key updated the tree pane contents;
    • Del key removes a selected folder in the folders tree.
    • You can enable "Show seconds" option in "Settings/File list" dialog if you wish to see seconds in file dates in file list in WinRAR shell.
    • "Where to check for SFX archives" options group in "Settings/Integration/Context menus items" dialog lets you to control processing of SFX archives in context menus. For example, if you frequently right click ".exe" files on slow network disks, you can turn off "Network disks" options to minimize the delay before displaying the context menu.
    • If you sort files by name in the file list in WinRAR shell, WinRAR will use the new logical file name sorting, same as in Windows Explorer, considering digits in file names by their numerical value. So files will be sorted as 1.txt, 2.txt, 10.txt instead of previous 1.txt, 10.txt, 2.txt. This new sort behavior is available in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and newer.
    • Ctrl+W key combination can be used to close the main WinRAR window also as WinRAR viewer windows. "View as Windows text" shortcut in WinRAR viewer changed from Ctrl+W to Ctrl+I.
    • New command line switch -rdisables recursion completely. So rar a -rarc dirname command will add only the empty dirname folder and ignore its contents. By default, if dirname does not include wildcards, RAR adds its contents even if -r switch is not specified.
    • If used when extracting, the new command line switch -ai forces RAR to ignore file attributes. When using this switch, extracted files will always have attributes assigned by operating system to a newly created file by default.
    • If output file name is not specified in "cw" command, console RAR will send comment data to stdout.
    • When compressing stdin data with -si[name] switch, RAR sets modification time of archived entry to current system time. Previous RAR versions did not fill this field, resulting in meaningless modification time for stdin.
    • Message displayed when you place the mouse cursor on WinRAR tray icon includes the archive name now. Previously only time left and total percent were displayed for archiving operations.
  • Bugs fixed:
    • WinRAR could fail to open tar or tar.gz archive if such archive contained a file larger than 8 GB;
    • WinRAR context menu did not work properly in Windows 7 beta if icons in context menus were enabled and user clicked a file inside of Windows 7 Library folder;
    • previous WinRAR versions failed to rename files having 5 or more continuous spaces in the name. WinRAR shell does not display such spaces for safety reasons, because they can hide an actual file extension. But this security measure prevented the rename command to work properly.

AVG 7.5 File Server

AVG 7.5 File Server

AVG File Server offers virus protection for Linux and FreeBSD file servers. more>>
AVG File Server offers virus protection for Linux and FreeBSD file servers. Security protection against viruses, worms and trojans for Linux and FreeBSD file servers, regardless of workloads.

Installation and Launch

AVG 7.5 for Linux/FreeBSD installation packages are provided as RPM or deb files, or as a tar.gz package.

For installation from the RPM file (Linux only), use the following command in your shell (accessible for example using the xterm application within your X window system).

# rpm -i avg75lms-{release}-{vdb version}.i386.rpm

For installation from the .deb file (Linux only), use the following command in your shell (accessible for example using the xterm application within your X window system).

# dpkg -i avg75lms-{release}-{vdb version}.i386.deb

For installation from the .tar.gz package, use the following commands (in the directory where the package is located) to unpack its contents, change directory and then finally run the install script (as root). For Linux proceed with these steps:

# tar xzvf avg75lms-{release}-{vdb version}.i386.tar.gz
# cd avg7-linux
# ./install.sh

You will then be offered the chance to register your software. You can do it now or later (see chapter 3.3 Product Registration). For FreeBSD proceed with these steps:

# tar xzvf avg75fms-{release}-{vdb version}.i386.tar.gz
# cd avg7-freebsd
# ./install.sh

You will then be offered the chance to register your software. You can do it now or later (see chapter 3.3 Product Registration). Note: The program files of the AVG 7.5 for Linux/FreeBSD versions 11 and older are installed into the /usr/local/lib/avg7 directory. Even if you perform the full update of older version of your AVG, the directory structure remains the same (ensuring the backwards compatibility). However, all essential components of AVG
7.5 for Linux/FreeBSD are always updated properly to offer you the maximum security and reliability.

The versions 12 and newer are comprehensively installed into the /opt/grisoft directory. Symbolic links are created in various system directories, leading to the /opt/grisoft directory subtree. If you want to upgrade the old directory structure, you must completely reinstall your AVG 7.5 for Linux/FreeBSD. Note that in this documentation is always described the preferred newer location of AVG 7.5 for
Linux/FreeBSD installation!

Orca 0.27

Orca 0.27

Orca is a tool to monitor and plot any data to the Web. more>>
Orca is a tool useful for plotting arbitrary data from text files onto a directory on a Web server.
Orca generates a large of number of plots from different types of data sets.
Main features:
- Configuration file based.
- Reads white space separated data files.
- Watches data files for updates and sleeps between reads.
- Finds new files at specified times.
- Remembers the last modification times for files so they do not have to be reread continuously.
- Can plot the same type of data from different files into different or the same PNGs.
- Different plots can be created based on the filename.
- Parses the date from the text files.
- Create arbitrary plots of data from different columns.
- Ignore columns or use the same column in many plots.
- Add or remove columns from plots without having to deleting RRDs.
- Plot the results of arbitrary Perl expressions, including mathematical ones, using one or more columns.
- Group multiple columns into a single plot using regular expressions on the column titles.
- Creates an HTML tree of HTML files and PNG plots.
- Creates an index of URL links listing all available targets.
- Creates an index of URL links listing all different plot types.
- No separate CGI set up required.
- Can be run under cron or it can sleep itself waiting for file updates based on when the file was last updated.
Orca has only four command line options. They are:
-gifs: Generate GIFs instead of PNGs. Tell Orca to generate GIFs instead of PNGs. You may not want to generate GIFs since PNGs are 1/3 the size of GIFs and take less time to generate.
-o: Once. This tells Orca to go through the steps of finding files, updating the RRDs, updating the PNGs, and creating the HTML files once. Normally, Orca loops continuously looking for new and updated files.
-r: RRD only. Have Orca only update its RRD files. Do not generate any HTML or PNG files. This is useful if you are loading in a large amount of data in several invocations of Orca and do not want to create the HTML and PNG files in each run since it is time consuming.
-v: Verbose. Have Orca spit out more verbose messages. As you add more -vs to the command line, more messages are sent out. Any more than three -vs are not used by Orca.
After the command line options are listed, Orca takes one more argument which is the name of the configuration file to use. Sample configuration files can be found in the sample_configs directory with the distribution of this tool.

CDEveryWhere 2.0 Build67

CDEveryWhere 2.0 Build67

CDEveryWhere makes it easy to create a professional Hybrid CD by creating a single disk image that can be read by Unix systems. more>>
CDEveryWhere creates a one-session iso image file that supports Joliet, HFS, RockRidge, and ISO9660 file systems.

Most CD Burner applications only support 2 file systems. CDEveryWhere supports all 4 file systems - so your CD data can be shared seamlessly across platforms.

Cross-platform CDs... Easy!

Just drag and drop files using our easy to use interface, and burn the ISO using your favorite CD recording software. Technically, CDEveryWhere creates a CD image which supports ISO9660, RockRidge, Joliet and HFS file systems.

CDEveryWhere maximizes CD disk space

Major CD Burner applications dont make a full use of the CD-R/RW disk space, and limit the CD size to be 640 Mb. Other software also creates identical sets of data for each file system - reusing disk space for the same files!. CDEveryWhere creates an ISO with one set of data to be shared by all or just the file systems you choose!

Mac CDs without a Mac

CDEveryWhere has a file type and creator conversion database for Macintosh files which assigns the appropriate file information to the files. Without these, the Macintosh OS wont recognize the file! Using CDEveryWhere you can create the Macintosh CD from Windows or Unix/Linux computers. Also, you can retrieve Mac files directly from a Mac using a CDEveryWhere server. So, you dont need a Mac hard drive or any complicated tools to get the files from a Mac and burn them to a CD.

AutoStart/AutoRun CD

Specify which file is to be opened when the CD is inserted into Windows or MacOS computers. This is useful for multimedia presentations using PowerPoint, Flash, etc. Just insert the CD, the presentation file will be opened by the appropriate application.

Professional File Compilation

CDEveryWhere makes it easy to collect data from various sources in addition to your computers hard drive. These sources could be remote servers (via FTP), networked drives, or compressed files. Once you establish the access to the remote source, just drag and drop to build your iso file!

Create Advanced File Layouts

CDEveryWhere allows you to compile the CD layout so you can choose which files or directories will be shown in each of the platforms. CDEveryWhere can even associate certain extensions with specific file systems to automate this process.

OS Independent Software

CDEveryWhere is a Java application. This means CDEveryWhere can be installed and used in any Java-enabled computer. Almost all modern computers are Java-enabled.

Sharity 3.3

Sharity is a Unix client for the Windows network file system. more>>
Sharity is a client for the SMB protocol (Server Message Block), also known as CIFS protocol (Common Internet File System). CIFS is the file-sharing protocol used by Windows, OS/2, Samba and many others.
Sharity mounts these servers in your file system. Mounting means that you can open files directly from the server with any application you like, as if they were on a local disk.
Other clients (such as smbclient from the Samba suite) provide only an ftp-like interface where you can copy files to and from the share but cannot open them directly.
Main features:
- Access files on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Samba, AppleShare IP, FacetWin and other CIFS servers.
- Provides network browsing facility similar to Windows "Network Neighborhood".
- Runs on almost any Unix operating system (including Mac OS X). Click here for a complete list
- Easy Installation.
- Faster than NFS servers for Windows.
- Shares are mounted in the file system: You can open files directly from the server.
- Seamless integration with your operating system Environment: The Graphical User Interface asks for passwords and is used to configure Sharity.
- Source-code available for download. Download Source Code Now
- Encrypted password transmission.

Thin File Upload 2.0 Beta

Thin File Upload 2.0 Beta

Thin File Upload is a general purpose multiple file uploader. more>>
Thin File Upload is a general purpose multiple file uploader. Once Thin Upload is installed on your website, visitors will be able to send you their files simply by dropping them the designated area of their browser.
With traditional HTML form based uploads, each transfer is limited to a handlfull of files. With Thin Upload thousands of files and folders can be sent at once. A browse button can also be displayed for users who may prefer it, this button can also be used to select multiple files and folders.
Another difference between HTML forms and our applet is that the maximum upload size can be checked before a single byte has been transfered saving bandwidth. Another feature of the applet is its ability to display a progress monitor while the files are in transit.
As the name suggests Thin Upload is an ultra thin client that is compatible with all popular server side scripting/programming languages such as PHP, Perl, ASP.NET etc. At just 50 Kilo Bytes it loads almost instantly.
Enhancements:
- The applet can now be controlled by directly embedding configuration directives into the Web page that contains the applet.
- A new progress monitor has been added.

Thin File Putter 2.00 Beta

Thin File Putter 2.00 Beta

Thin File Putter is an HTTP PUT method file uploader. more>>
Thin File Putter is a PUT method file uploader. Thin File Putter makes use of the HTTP PUT method to transfer files to the web server. Traditionally files are uploaded using HTTP POST. The POST method however is not specifcally designed for file upload but the PUT method is.
putterThin File Putter is a multiple file uploader with drag and drop capabilities. It will display a progress monitor while the transfer is in progress and resume interrupted uploads.
With the PUT method, multiple files are uploaded as they are without first combining them into a MIME message. As a result no server side decoding is required.
The upload script merely reads the input stream and writes the data to the hard disk.
Thin File Putter is a cross platform solution, it can be used to upload very large files to any web server that supports the PUT method.
Whats New in 1.0.2 Stable Release:
- Fixes a bug that resulted in the applet misrepresenting the uploaded file as as zero on certain occasions.
Whats New in 2.00 Beta Development Release:
- A new progress monitor has been added, and configuration data can be directly embedded into the Web page that contains the applet (instead using a configuration file).
- Perl server side handlers have been improved.
