Mysterious Palantir 1.0

Mysterious Palantir 1.0

Exercise your pool and shooting skills playing the nine games from this pack. more>>
This game combines arcade elements with a bit of strategy.
There are nine rather different games packed into it, and three skill levels for each one.

A fancy playing field shape gives you a great chance to excersize your pool skills. One more nice thing - the two-player modes were added - no more arguing with your relatives over whose turn is to play now.

Installation

Mysterious Palantir runs on all major Linux flavors (RedHat, Debian, Mandrake,
SuSE, Slackware and others). It is distributed as a gzipped tar archive
bshooter.tgz To install and run this game on your Linux system, please do
the following:

1) copy the file to a directory of your choice

2) unpack the archive:

tar xzvf palantir.tgz

3) go into Palantir directory and run the game:

cd Palantir;

palantir

The trial copy of the program will expire in 14 days. You can obtain a
registration key any time during or after the trial period.

Game Rules

Look at the board - there are some spheres in the middle of its sides. Just click on one of them and it becomes active. The sphere will fly in the direction you point. Inside a small hexagon in the middle of the board you can see some other spheres - they show the color of the next ones, so you may develop your own game strategy. The numbers in a light

blue hexagon at the right of the board indicate the number of unsuccessful attempts left till the end of the game round.

You will get some points if the sphere you have shot joins a group of spheres of the same color and they disappear. You will get ten times more points for every sphere that fell apart if they werent connected to the center of the board. If you havent removed any sphere by your shot - the number of attempts decreases and when it equals to zero new lines will appear from the center of the board and a new game round will begin. New lines will appear if the sphere you have shot hits the sides of the board it has come from and disappears. But in this case you wont lose your attempts.

You may choose between nine different games available (click on the `Pick game button). First six games are single player games and the last three are multiplayer ones.

In the single player game your goal is to remove all the spheres off the board. You will have twice more points if you manage to kick off all the spheres of the same color. On the other hand the number of lines that appear at the end of every game round increases too.

In multiplayer games you should achieve different goals. The board is divided into two parts here. One half of which belongs to you and another - to your opponent. Your goal is to remove all the spheres from your half of the board and those common for both players lying on the line dividing the board. You should also fill the opponents half and make the spheres overflow its borders. Keep in mind that the player on whose part of the board the spheres have been removed will get points.

Try to clear your half of the board and your score will be doubled and the game will be over. In case the spheres overflow the board the game is over too. You will lose all your points and lose the game if spheres overflow the board on your half. Another player must follow the same rules. At the beginning of every game you can choose players - either

human or computer ones. You will watch the game in Demo Mode if you choose both players as computer players.

Watching the Demo will help you to understand the rules of the game.

A Tale in the Desert

A Tale in the Desert

A Tale in the Desert is a massively multiplayer role-playing game set in ancient Egypt. more>>
A Tale in the Desert is a massively multiplayer role-playing game set in ancient Egypt.

It uses the internet to allow thousands of players to play together in the same world. All of the characters you will see and talk to in the game are controlled by other people just like you, not by a computer.

A Tale in the Desert is the first online game to focus on long-term planning and long-term goals rather than combat. Goals include the creation of great works of art and architecture, becoming a powerful leader, and building wealth.

Construction:

Objective: To build a base of operations.

Similarities to: Tropico, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Zeus, Capitalism

Explanation: Your base consists of machines that produce goods, ranging from simple objects like bricks and boards to highly customized goods like gearboxes, mixed paints, and cut gems.

The Challenge: Your base must be designed to operate efficiently and must take into account the values of the goods, supply, and demand.

Puzzles: As you unlock new technologies, you will need to figure out how they work and how you can use them to increase your efficiency.

Trading:

Objective: To make a profit trading goods and services with other players.

Similarities to: Master of Orion 2, Port Royale

Challenge 1: A Tale in the Desert contains too many goods for you to produce everything you need. You must trade to obtain the necessities.

Challenge 2: Learning skills is extremely expensive. To recoup the cost, you must figure out how to hire out your skills to other players.

Puzzles: You must figure out what your goods are worth, and what your time is worth. You must decide whether to give things away freely, and hope for generosity in return, or whether to trade on a more controlled, negotiated basis.

The Tests:

Objective: To increase your powers by performing ritual tests of character.

Similarities to: The multiplayer games you see on Reality TV shows.

The Challenge: There are dozens of different tests, each one a unique ritual that increases your powers. They run the gamut from building a pyramid, to breeding and exhibiting a scarab beetle, to winning a dueling tournament, to searching for hidden altars, to winning an election. They only have one thing in common: they all require you to strategize against other players.

Lawmaking:

Objective: To lift Egypt out of anarchy into true civilization.

The Challenge: A civilization must have rules: rules about who gets to own which piece of land, rules about what kind of pollution is permitted, rules about inappropriate behavior, rules about who gets to benefit from your research labors, rules about who owns which vein of ore. Egyptians must choose these rules for themselves.

The Puzzle: Can you do better than the real governments of today? Can you create a truly fair and just society?

Savage 2.00

Savage 2.00

Savage is a masive multiplayer online RPG game. more>>
Savage is a masive multiplayer online RPG game.

In a primal and violent time eons from now, nomadic humans roamed the earth in a never ending struggle to survive. The beasts and creatures suffered mightily at the cruel hand of man as the land was stripped clean by human scavengers and natural resources were consumed with abandon. It was a time of hunger, disease, and death for mankind as science and other knowledge remained untapped ancient secrets. Humanity was fragmented into isolated tribes led by vicious and petty war chiefs.

This was also a time of evolution and growth for the creatures of the world. They developed an intelligence equal to that of humankind and formed communities and packs in a new social order. Continuously subjected to humanitys cruelties and deprivations, a deep-seated hatred of humanity was forever instilled within them.

Life on our planet, now known as Newerth (New Earth), became a daily struggle between man and beast for the basic natural resources that nurtured life for them both. Ongoing skirmishes over food, precious metals and even simple building blocks of stone escalated to the point that both sides became threatened with extinction. Humanitys isolated tribes, at times united under various war chiefs, remained so fragmented that their very existence was in question. The beasts and creatures also failed to unite in a common cause and continued to fight for their lives individually.

Out of this chaos arose a warrior of unmatched ability and leadership. His name was Jaraziah Grimm, son of the legendary brutal warlord, Harrin Grimm. Following the mysterious disappearance of his father, Jaraziah boldly reorganized the remaining nomadic tribes under a single banner called the Legion of Man. He created the Protocols of Grimm, laws which proclaimed man superior to the beasts and creatures of the world. He excelled in his new role as a leader and human commander. Under his banner and the Protocols of Grimm, he created a revolution of thought as well as military power. Through his influence, the human clans embraced common goals, such as the development of scientific knowledge and rekindling the lost art of warfare to regain their rightful place of dominance in Newerth.

During this time, the Legion of Man discovered ancient secrets of science and war and quickly applied them to engineering weapons of warfare. Long forgotten knowledge of chemistry, electricity and magnetism resurfaced and ushered in a whole new understanding of science. Jaraziahs leadership, coupled with scientific advances, began an era of unprecedented success for the Legion of Man against the beast race. Victory followed victory as the Legions influence was expanded dramatically. The Legion of Mans future as the dominant power on Newerth seemed assured.

Jaraziahs youngest sister, Ophelia, was a mere child during the renaissance of the Legion of Man. Even at an early age, she was unlike any legionnaire. Ophelia found peace in the outdoors amongst the untamed creatures of the wilderness. She discovered that she had a special gift with animals, an ability to communicate with even the most vicious of beasts. She was at first shocked at her special talent but soon enough learned to use it. Flower buds opened at her touch; even the most powerful beast was calmed by her presence and beasts would howl when she waved goodbye to them.

Her gift was clearly supernatural and she successfully hid it from her brother and the rest of the Legion of Man. However, she felt very strongly about the open conflict between man and the beasts. Even as a young child, she openly debated with Jaraziah time and again about her belief that beasts and man could and should live together. Through tiring and seemingly endless confrontations, brother and sister grew further and further apart. Eventually Ophelia was ostracized from the Legion. She was secluded in her parents home, hidden away as an embarrassment to the Legion and Jaraziah, living as a prisoner.

Then one night, under a star-framed moon, a tiny beast creature wandered into the middle of the settlement. Not knowing the risk it was taking, the young pup was there to return a flower that had fallen from Ophelias hair the day before when she was in the forest. A Legionnaire spotted the young beast and an alarm was raised. To her horror, the cowering, harmless creature was cornered and brutally slaughtered. Ophelia, gripped with the true horror of what her life had become, was unable to remove the memory of that night and the years of beast bloodshed from her mind. Her hatred for what had become of her people and her brother corrupted her soul. Like her father before her, she lost track of what is good in humanity.

Nightmare and reality blurred; the days turned to nights until her torment finally ended. In a waking dream, she determined that it was time for her to escape from the Legion of Man. She spoke to the song birds outside her window and with their help and with the help of nearby creatures; she did indeed escape into the wilderness. She completely disappeared from the Legion of Man.

Ten years passed. The renaissance of the Legion continued unabated. However, new and disturbing reports from the borderlands began to come in. They said that the beasts of the world were reuniting against the humans. A new horde of creatures was organizing under a mysterious and powerful leader. Some of the creatures were similar to the ones that they had fought and killed before, yet new and strange, and seemingly more intelligent and far more deadly than in the past. This new Beast Race had learned the ways of human warfare and was making a formidable new army.

Reports further came in that the beasts were developing their own form of science that was unlike anything ever seen before, which human scholars could only describe in the old tongue as "magic". Now the Beast Horde had crossed the human borders and was raiding and annihilating isolated settlements. There had been sightings of a human woman, proclaimed as the Beast Queen, leading the new armys successes.

A waning moon heralded change and Jaraziah realized that a new savage age is dawning. It became clear under a blood red sky that the renaissance of the Legion of Man had ended and the days of uncontested human domination of the world were over.

H-Craft Championship 1.1

H-Craft Championship 1.1

H-Craft Championship is an indie racing game. more>>
H-Craft Championship looks surprisingly good for an indie racing game--after all, major publishers spend millions polishing the graphics for games of this type, and its impressive that a small team was able to produce something that looks so nice.

The game is science fictional, in that the racing vehicles are hovercraft that apparently tool along great superhighways in the sky. Also apparently, in the future, road safety is not a major concern of the authorities--perhaps the world is overpopulated and they want people to plummet to their deaths--so that failure in steering doesnt mean, as in other games, that you go off road and lose speed, but instead lose the game.

The main game mode is the championship--a series of events in which victory unlocks more tracks and vehicles. Its a single-player game--no network play--but you can record a ghost of your race and send the file to a friend, so that he can race against your best time, on the same track. Similarly, in Rival mode, up to four players can race on the same track, in succession, against the ghosts of previous contestants, so there is a form of hotseat multiplayer, in any event.

If you enjoy racing games, its well worth a look.

Dominions 2 : The Ascension Wars 2.08 DEMO

Dominions 2 : The Ascension Wars 2.08 DEMO

Dominions 2 : The Ascension Wars is a strategy war game for Linux. more>>
Dominions 2 : The Ascension Wars is a strategy war game for Linux.
Too long have you been confined to this mortal realm. Too long have you been denied what should rightfully be yours. Are you not a god? Should you not be the One True God of this miserable dirtball? Yet there are others that dare challenge your authority.
Pretenders to the throne, with their false priests and prophets. These miserable creatures that have the audacity to impugn your rightful place in the cosmos! But you will show them, wont you? Gather your armies, raise your fortifications, and let loose the dogs of war! The time has come to assume your proper position, to crush your enemies beneath your boots and take what is meant for you.
Dominions 2: The Ascension Wars is an epic turn-based fantasy strategy game unlike any other fantasy strategy title that youve ever played. On the surface it may seem familiar; after all youre raising armies, conquering enemy lands, and wielding powerful spells. Scratch deeper though and youll soon find that Dominions 2 introduces a depth that will satisfy even the most hardcore strategy gamer.
Acting as a pretender god leading one of seventeen different nations, players will strive to become the one true god through the power of spell and steel. As both the grand leader of your nation and their god you will seek to spread your dominions across the known world with divinely inspired priests, with masters of the arcane, mages, and of course with armies that grind your foes to dust before them. Use awe-inspiring magical items or craft your own, create new prophets to spread your gospel, and build up your defenses with new castles. On the field of battle youll fight with legions of bizarre creatures and truly heroic heroes, as the best in the world will be rewarded for their deeds with newfound powers.
You will find yourself waging war against the intelligent and challenging computer or up to sixteen human opponents. Designed from the ground up for such huge multiplayer games in mind, Dominions 2 effortlessly handles such worldwide mayhem. With a simultaneous turn structure downtime is kept to a minimum, even with a large group playing.
A strategy game like no other, in Dominions 2 if you can think of it as a player, you can probably do it within the game. Destined to become a classic, and one that will surely remain on your hard drive long after most games have been uninstalled!
Main features:
- Epic turn-based fantasy gameplay. Up to seventeen people can play at once thanks to the simultaneous turn structure. For those who would rather play solo the computer opponents put up fierce competition for those 3 AM gaming sessions.
- All new graphics in the sequel. The interface has been overhauled and streamlined, the map looks like it could be found in the front of your favorite fantasy novel, and the battle scenes are now in three-dimensional glory.
- New map filters that help players instantly assess the world situation. Easily locate fortress locations, temples, or how far your dominion stretches. Additionally, the map is zoomable.
- A nice twist on mercenaries: mercs up for recruitment are available to all players and will only end up fighting for the cause of the highest bidder.
- While every fantasy strategy game has the concept of heroes in Dominions 2 heroes really need to depend on being heroic. The top ten commanders will enter into the Hall of Fame, where they will be bestowed various heroic abilities. The longer they can stay in the Hall of Fame, the more kudos are awarded.
- Taking the sword to your opponents is similar to a good wargame. Morale losses can lead to routs and assassinating the enemy commander is a nicely proven formula for success. Magic and the power of your would-be god also plays a huge part in battle and you can even commit battlefield summonings.
- A cornucopia of creatures, items, and spells. The item manual weighs in at 71 pages, while the spell book is a massive 88 pages long.
- The amount one can do in one turn is staggering. Just check out these phases in the turn: recruit, research, empowerment, forge, rituals, magic battles, search, prayers, blood hunt, luck, assassinations, friendly movement, movement, storm castle, enchantments, magic items, sneak, build, special orders, income, starvation, upkeep, dominion, site effects, heal, mercs, and scouting.
- More nations to play than the original Dominions! More units, more monsters, and more spells!
- Less micromanagment than the original and helpful pop-ups that describe the various gameplay mechanics makes Dominions 2 an easy game for new players to get involved with.
- Easy to grasp, gamers will enjoy creating new maps for the game with the included map editor.
- Playable on all the major operating systems: Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris.

Cedega 6.0

Cedega 6.0

Cedega allows hundreds of Windows games to run on Linux seamlessly and transparently, right out of the box. more>>
Cedega, TransGamings flagship Linux portability product, allows hundreds of Windows games to run on Linux seamlessly and transparently, right out of the box. With Cedega installed on a computer running Linux, users can simply insert their favorite Windows game CD, then install and play that game just as they would on a Windows system. Cedega can run hundreds of top tier titles on Linux, including blockbuster hits such as BattleField 2, Dungeon Siege 2, Madden 2006, Half Life 2, World of WarCraft, City of Villains, WarCraft III and Star Wars Galaxies, just to name a few.
How Cedega Works
Cedega works by directly loading a Windows program into memory on a Linux system and linking it to a Linux-optimized version of the Win32 APIs. TransGamings Cedega implements common multimedia Windows APIs such as Direct3D, DirectInput, DirectSound and many others by mapping them to Linux equivalents like OpenGL, X11, and the OSS or ALSA sound APIs. Cedega is the culmination of many years of effort on these APIs. The TransGaming Teams knowledge of APIs such as DirectX is probably second only to Microsofts.
The Cedega Experience
Cedega also provides an easy to use interface to manage the games installed on a Linux system, as well as the options that can be selected for each title. Unlike how games are installed on a Windows system, Cedega installs each game into its own separate environment, thereby ensuring that the new game can never interfere with previously installed titles. Removing a game is just as easy - instead of a complex and error prone uninstall process, the game environment can simply be deleted without affecting other installed games.
Also unlike Windows, Cedega allows the user to specify that a game should run in its own Window, instead of taking over the whole screen. Want to keep a window open on your favorite massively multiplayer game while you search the web? With Cedega, doing so is just a click away!
Getting Cedega
Cedega is available on a subscription basis through TransGamings website. Subscribers get access to the latest Cedega releases including regular hotfixes and updates, access to both email and web-based support from TransGamings professional staff, posting access to TransGamings user forum, and the right to vote on what TransGamings Cedega team should work on for future releases.
TransGaming pioneered the concept of customers having a direct and regular influence on our development work through a regular monthly vote. Each month, TransGaming subscribers are asked to vote on development topics raised for discussion on our website.
TransGamings staff uses the results of this polling to choose the most important games and technologies that we should work on for the following month, and provides a development status update detailing the engineering work that took place the previous month.
Click here to subscribe and get immediate access to Cedega, and tell us what games you want to see working next on Linux!

Zap! 1.196.0

Zap is a game of action and strategy. more>>
Experience the excitement that brought down the house at IndieGamesCon 2004. Zap! - a 2D vector graphics multiplayer team action strategy game that plays like a cross between Robotron and Tribes with the graphical blend of Asteroids and Pac-Man.
As a 2D game Zap can be played with keyboard+mouse or (recommended) a dual-analog gamepad. Zap has several game types, including CTF, Zone Control, Retrieve, Soccer, Hunters and Rabbit, and it supports familiar features like hierarchal V-menu chat and recorded voice.
Zap is a game of action and strategy.
Main features:
Capture the Flag
- Team game where the objective is to take the enemys flag and return it to your flag. Each capture earns your team one point. Take care to defend your flag from the enemy -- you can only score if it is at home!
Soccer
- Team game where the objective is to move the white circle (the ball) into the goal of the opponents color.
Zone Control
- Team game with a single flag and multiple "capture zone" areas. The goal of the game is to escort a team member carrying the flag to each of the capture zones in the map. When a capture zone is entered by the flag carrier, the zone turns to that teams color and the team scores a point. If the capture zone was already owned by a different team, the team that lost the zone loses a point. If all the zones on the level are captured by a single team, that scores a "touchdown", and the zones and flag reset.
Retrieve
- In Retrieve, one or more flags are scattered throughout the level. Teams compete to bring these flags back to team-colored goal zones. Each retrieved flag is worth one point to the capturing team. If a team retrieves all the flags on the level, the team keeps the points for the flags and the flags reset to their original locations.
Hunters
- Solo game where the objective is to collect flags from other players and return them to the Nexus for points. Each player starts with one flag, and drops it if he or she is zapped. Scoring in Hunters is based on how many flags the player is carrying when touching the open Nexus. The first flag is worth one point, the second is worth two, the third 3, and so on. So the total value of capturing 5 flags would be 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 15 points. If the Nexus is dark, it is closed -- the upper timer in the lower right corner counts down to when it will next be open.
Rabbit
- Solo game wherein there is one flag that all players are fighting to control. Players accumulate points by holding the flag, zapping the flag carrier or zapping other players while holding the flag.
Zapmatch
- Solo game, often of short duration between levels. Just zap as many other players as you can!
