In a primal and violent time eons from now, nomadic humans roamed the earth in a never ending struggle to survive. The beasts and creatures suffered mightily at the cruel hand of man as the land was stripped clean by human scavengers and natural resources were consumed with abandon. It was a time of hunger, disease, and death for mankind as science and other knowledge remained untapped ancient secrets. Humanity was fragmented into isolated tribes led by vicious and petty war chiefs.
This was also a time of evolution and growth for the creatures of the world. They developed an intelligence equal to that of humankind and formed communities and packs in a new social order. Continuously subjected to humanitys cruelties and deprivations, a deep-seated hatred of humanity was forever instilled within them.
Life on our planet, now known as Newerth (New Earth), became a daily struggle between man and beast for the basic natural resources that nurtured life for them both. Ongoing skirmishes over food, precious metals and even simple building blocks of stone escalated to the point that both sides became threatened with extinction. Humanitys isolated tribes, at times united under various war chiefs, remained so fragmented that their very existence was in question. The beasts and creatures also failed to unite in a common cause and continued to fight for their lives individually.
Out of this chaos arose a warrior of unmatched ability and leadership. His name was Jaraziah Grimm, son of the legendary brutal warlord, Harrin Grimm. Following the mysterious disappearance of his father, Jaraziah boldly reorganized the remaining nomadic tribes under a single banner called the Legion of Man. He created the Protocols of Grimm, laws which proclaimed man superior to the beasts and creatures of the world. He excelled in his new role as a leader and human commander. Under his banner and the Protocols of Grimm, he created a revolution of thought as well as military power. Through his influence, the human clans embraced common goals, such as the development of scientific knowledge and rekindling the lost art of warfare to regain their rightful place of dominance in Newerth.
During this time, the Legion of Man discovered ancient secrets of science and war and quickly applied them to engineering weapons of warfare. Long forgotten knowledge of chemistry, electricity and magnetism resurfaced and ushered in a whole new understanding of science. Jaraziahs leadership, coupled with scientific advances, began an era of unprecedented success for the Legion of Man against the beast race. Victory followed victory as the Legions influence was expanded dramatically. The Legion of Mans future as the dominant power on Newerth seemed assured.
Jaraziahs youngest sister, Ophelia, was a mere child during the renaissance of the Legion of Man. Even at an early age, she was unlike any legionnaire. Ophelia found peace in the outdoors amongst the untamed creatures of the wilderness. She discovered that she had a special gift with animals, an ability to communicate with even the most vicious of beasts. She was at first shocked at her special talent but soon enough learned to use it. Flower buds opened at her touch; even the most powerful beast was calmed by her presence and beasts would howl when she waved goodbye to them.
Her gift was clearly supernatural and she successfully hid it from her brother and the rest of the Legion of Man. However, she felt very strongly about the open conflict between man and the beasts. Even as a young child, she openly debated with Jaraziah time and again about her belief that beasts and man could and should live together. Through tiring and seemingly endless confrontations, brother and sister grew further and further apart. Eventually Ophelia was ostracized from the Legion. She was secluded in her parents home, hidden away as an embarrassment to the Legion and Jaraziah, living as a prisoner.
Then one night, under a star-framed moon, a tiny beast creature wandered into the middle of the settlement. Not knowing the risk it was taking, the young pup was there to return a flower that had fallen from Ophelias hair the day before when she was in the forest. A Legionnaire spotted the young beast and an alarm was raised. To her horror, the cowering, harmless creature was cornered and brutally slaughtered. Ophelia, gripped with the true horror of what her life had become, was unable to remove the memory of that night and the years of beast bloodshed from her mind. Her hatred for what had become of her people and her brother corrupted her soul. Like her father before her, she lost track of what is good in humanity.
Nightmare and reality blurred; the days turned to nights until her torment finally ended. In a waking dream, she determined that it was time for her to escape from the Legion of Man. She spoke to the song birds outside her window and with their help and with the help of nearby creatures; she did indeed escape into the wilderness. She completely disappeared from the Legion of Man.
Ten years passed. The renaissance of the Legion continued unabated. However, new and disturbing reports from the borderlands began to come in. They said that the beasts of the world were reuniting against the humans. A new horde of creatures was organizing under a mysterious and powerful leader. Some of the creatures were similar to the ones that they had fought and killed before, yet new and strange, and seemingly more intelligent and far more deadly than in the past. This new Beast Race had learned the ways of human warfare and was making a formidable new army.
Reports further came in that the beasts were developing their own form of science that was unlike anything ever seen before, which human scholars could only describe in the old tongue as "magic". Now the Beast Horde had crossed the human borders and was raiding and annihilating isolated settlements. There had been sightings of a human woman, proclaimed as the Beast Queen, leading the new armys successes.
A waning moon heralded change and Jaraziah realized that a new savage age is dawning. It became clear under a blood red sky that the renaissance of the Legion of Man had ended and the days of uncontested human domination of the world were over.

Transcribe! project is an assistant for people who sometimes want to work out a piece of music from a recording. more>>
Transcribe! project is an assistant for people who sometimes want to work out a piece of music from a recording, in order to write it out, or play it themselves, or both.
The usual technique for doing this is to copy the music to cassette and then listen repeatedly to each bit, using your ear and your brain to work out what is happening. Unless you have perfect pitch then you also need a piano or a guitar handy to check out which note is which. However, if you copy the recording to your computers hard disk as a sound file then you can use Transcribe! instead of the cassette machine and the piano.
Transcribe! offers many features aimed at making the transcription job smoother and easier, including the ability to slow down music without changing its pitch, and to analyse chords and show you what notes are present.
It is important to understand that Transcribe! does not attempt to do the whole job, processing an audio file and outputting musical notation - this would be nice, but is a currently unsolved research problem. The spectrum analysis feature is very useful for working out those hard-to-hear chords, but you must still use your ear and brain to decide which of the peaks in the spectrum are notes being played, which are merely harmonics, and which are just the result of noise and broad-spectrum instruments such as drums.
If you have never worked out even a simple piece of music by ear then Transcribe! will probably not help you (see How to Transcribe), but if you do sometimes work out recorded music by ear then Transcribe! can make the job a lot quicker and easier.
Transcribe! takes no interest in MIDI files - these already contain explicit information about what notes are to be played and when, and there are plenty of programs available which can display this information. Transcribe! deals with audio sample data files.
Transcribe! plays and records audio files but it is not an audio editor. It is capable of applying various effects to audio such as speed change, pitch change and EQ. You can save the modified audio to a new sound file if you want.
Main features:
- Depending on version, Transcribe! reads audio from many different types of audio file and audio CD. It also has a "Record" facility for recording from analog sources such as cassette or vinyl. It displays the audio waveform and allows you to scroll around, place markers for sections, measures and beats, and easily play or loop from any point.
- Loops and positions can be stored and recalled. There are many keyboard shortcuts and you can configure these as you like (in version 7). You can configure Transcribe! to respond to pedals of various types so as to keep your hands free : start and stop playback with your feet!
- There is extensive and readable help accessible from within the program.
- The "spectrum" feature displays the strength of the various pitches in any chord or note you select, in the form of a graph - a wavy line over a piano keyboard graphic. The height of the various peaks in the graph indicate the strength of the note above which the peak appears. This is not a magic bullet for analysing chords but it can be a very useful source of information.
- Transcribe! offers various audio processing effects (Slowdown, Pitch Change, EQ filtering etc) intended to help with transcribing. These effects all run in "real time" unless your machine is old & slow. This means there is no pre-processing or other waiting, the processing is performed on-the-fly while playing and you can instantly hear the effect of changes to EQ etc. For instance if you press the half-speed button while playing then playback simply continues, at half speed.
Mono/Karaoke
- This effect allows you to mix the two channels of a stereo recording together in various ways including phase-reverse, commonly known as "karaoke" as it sometimes has the effect of removing the vocal (if the vocal is panned dead-centre).
EQ
- A powerful EQ filter.
Tuning
- Adjustment to playback pitch, in cents (hundredths of a semitone) for fine tuning and also larger shifts of up to two octaves, which can for instance be useful in hearing low, murky bass parts by raising them by an octave or two.
Transposition
- Special handling for those of you who play a transposing instrument such as trumpet or saxophone.
Speed
- Speed variable from one twentieth to double speed.
- Click here for an MP3 file (373 KB) demonstrating the sound quality of slowdown-without-pitch-change. It contains 7 seconds of a guitar solo played quite fast, followed by the same at half speed. This is what you get when you press Transcribe!s half-speed button (version 7.20). I havent bothered to give lots of samples, since you can download Transcribe! for a free trial period and try it yourself.

Thin Image Upload is a drag and drop image uploader for embedding in Web pages. Thin Image Upload has the ability to resize images on the client side.
Files that are not images can be filtered out to save bandwidth. The applet is equipped with a progress monitor that will display a thumbnail of each image as its uploaded.
Thin Image Upload is compatible with a wide range of server-side scripting languages. Before you begin the installation please make sure that your scripting engine has been correctly configured and your server is capable of accepting a file upload.
With PHP
Place the test.html page and upload.php (included in the zip file) on your webserver. Point your browser at test.html and carry out a form based file upload. It will help to ensure that your server is correctly configured to accept file uploads.
Open thinupload.properties in your text editor. Change the url property so that it points to the upload.php you placed on your server. Now move this file along with ThinImageDemo.jar and applet.php into a folder in your webspace.
Edit upload.php and set the save path for your uploaded files. Make sure the webserver has permissions to write to this directory. Thats it.
The upload.php is a sample PHP script provided to get you started on drag and drop file upload. You may need to modify the script for a better fit with your website or web application.

RAR 3.80 / 3.90 Beta 4 is a well-known and extremely powerful archive utility for everyone. It allows you to manage and control archive files. Console RAR supports archives only in RAR format, the names of which usually have a ".rar" extension. ZIP and other formats are not supported. Windows users may install GUI RAR version - WinRAR, which is able to process much more archive types.

Major Features:
- RAR introduces an original compression algorithm. It allows higher compression ratios than other PC archiving tools, especially on executable files, object libraries, large text files, etc.
- RAR offers an optional compression algorithm highly optimized for multimedia data.
- RAR provides functionality for creating a solid archive, which can raise the compression ratio by 10% 50% over more common methods, particularly when packing large numbers of small files.
- RAR offers the ability to create and change SFX archives using default and external SFX modules.
- RAR offers the ability to create a multi-volume archive as SFX.
- RAR offers a number of service functions, such as setting a password, adding archive and file comments. Even physically damaged archives may be repaired and an archive may be locked to prevent further changes. Authenticity information may be added for additional security and RAR will store information on the last update and name of the archive.
Enhancements:
- WinRAR version for Windows x64 is available. If you use Windows x64, it is strongly recommended to install 64 bit WinRAR version. It provides a higher performance and better shell integration than 32 bit version.
- RAR compression speed is improved for multi-core and multi-CPU systems. This improvement is most noticeable in Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems.
- "Remove duplicate folders from extraction path" option in "Settings/Compression" dialog is replaced by more universal "Remove redundant folders from extraction path" option. This option will eliminate redundant archive name based folders from extraction path if you unpack an archive with "Extract to DestName" context menu command and if archive root folder contains only one folder and no files.
- Changes in "Extraction path and options" dialog:

- "New folder" button creates a new subfolder in currently selected folder;
- F2 key renames a selected folder in the folders tree;
- F5 key updated the tree pane contents;
- Del key removes a selected folder in the folders tree.
- You can enable "Show seconds" option in "Settings/File list" dialog if you wish to see seconds in file dates in file list in WinRAR shell.
- "Where to check for SFX archives" options group in "Settings/Integration/Context menus items" dialog lets you to control processing of SFX archives in context menus. For example, if you frequently right click ".exe" files on slow network disks, you can turn off "Network disks" options to minimize the delay before displaying the context menu.
- If you sort files by name in the file list in WinRAR shell, WinRAR will use the new logical file name sorting, same as in Windows Explorer, considering digits in file names by their numerical value. So files will be sorted as 1.txt, 2.txt, 10.txt instead of previous 1.txt, 10.txt, 2.txt. This new sort behavior is available in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and newer.
- Ctrl+W key combination can be used to close the main WinRAR window also as WinRAR viewer windows. "View as Windows text" shortcut in WinRAR viewer changed from Ctrl+W to Ctrl+I.
- New command line switch -rdisables recursion completely. So rar a -rarc dirname command will add only the empty dirname folder and ignore its contents. By default, if dirname does not include wildcards, RAR adds its contents even if -r switch is not specified.
- If used when extracting, the new command line switch -ai forces RAR to ignore file attributes. When using this switch, extracted files will always have attributes assigned by operating system to a newly created file by default.
- If output file name is not specified in "cw" command, console RAR will send comment data to stdout.
- When compressing stdin data with -si[name] switch, RAR sets modification time of archived entry to current system time. Previous RAR versions did not fill this field, resulting in meaningless modification time for stdin.
- Message displayed when you place the mouse cursor on WinRAR tray icon includes the archive name now. Previously only time left and total percent were displayed for archiving operations.
- Bugs fixed:

- WinRAR could fail to open tar or tar.gz archive if such archive contained a file larger than 8 GB;
- WinRAR context menu did not work properly in Windows 7 beta if icons in context menus were enabled and user clicked a file inside of Windows 7 Library folder;
- previous WinRAR versions failed to rename files having 5 or more continuous spaces in the name. WinRAR shell does not display such spaces for safety reasons, because they can hide an actual file extension. But this security measure prevented the rename command to work properly.
