Social Networks Visualiser 0.43.1
SocNetV is a Linux GUI program written in Qt3. more>>
Social Networks Visualiser project main purpose is to bring to our Linux box comprehensive Social Networks Analysis and Visualisation.
It can read and write various network file formats and enables the user to visually modify an existing network or draw a new network using the mouse. Network and actor properties, such as distances, centralities, diameter etc, can be easily computed. Also, it can create random networks (lattice, same degree, etc).
SocNetV is NOT antagonistic to any commercial/scientific SNA programs, like PAJEK, visone, UCINET, AISee, KrackPlot, which are developed by groups of professionals and scientists. It is rather a personal trip to learn SNA and C++ programming while keeping the code open for others to learn from my mistakes. If you find it useful Ill be glad. But be aware that there is no warranty of efficiency, correctness or usability.
Oh, and this site is under never-ending construction as well.
Installation:
To see SocNetV in action, you need a modern Linux distro with Qt 3.x. Download the latest release from the link "Download" on the left. Untar the archive, cd to the new directory, and use:
/usr/lib/qt3/bin/qmake (or wherever are your Qt libs)
make
./socnetv
Enhancements:
- tarball of v. 043.1 was corrupted. fixed.
- Fixed display of HTML help in Debian package.
- Fixed wrong numbering of new actors with double-click.
- Fixed creation of links through middle-click.
Crash Recovery Kit for Linux 2.6.11.10
Crash Recovery Kit for Linux is a Linux distribution for system recovery. more>>
Of course your machine doesnt have to have linux installed to make use of the CRK kit. There are several uses and purposes for the CRK to be used. To name a few :
- recovery of a trashed LILO boot record. How many times does it happen that some person installs windows 98/95 after he/she installed linux? Well in that case windows 9X just overwrites the MBR record and linux wont be able to boot anymore.
- backup over the network in the form of tar.gz tarballs. Both FAT16, FAT32, ext2 and all filesystems which Linux supports in a read/write fashion can be taken care of. The strong part of the CRK is when a disk is replaced or repartitioning is being done. The CRK boots a complete mini linux with networking where all possible hardware which is inside the Linux kernel is available.
- Testing hardware of new intel based machines.
- Detecting versions and types of hardware. The Linux kernel holds a large database of hardware supported. Booting a linux kernel doesnt only resolve if the hardware is ok, it also show its specs. This can be handy if one wants to check-out an old/new PC which is for sale.
- Recovery of a misconfigured or hacked Linux system. Well that can happen. /etc/fstab can be wrong or the root password is unknown etc.
- make a tape backup of a disk which cant be booted anymore.
The CRK is based on RedHat Linux. I have always used RedHat systems, thats why. When my system needed maintenance the rescue floppy image which RedHat supplies didnt fullfill my needs.
Thats why i created the CRK. Lately i use Mandrake. How and why the CRK was created read the short history. The CRK is licensed under the GNU Public License (GPL).

OpenHIP for Linux 0.5.1
OpenHIP for Linux decouples network identity from network location. more>> OpenHIP is a free, open-source implementation of the Host Identity Protocol (HIP). HIP is being developed within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) to study and experiment with HIP and related protocols.
HIP is a specific proposal to decouple network identity from network location in the Internet protocol stack. Historically, IP addresses have served both functions. This dual use of IP addresses is becoming problematic, and there have been many research efforts aimed at studying the decoupling of identifier and locator in the network stack. HIP is a specific proposal that uses public/private key pairs as the host identifiers. Please see the Documentation section for more information about HIP and the HIP architecture.<<less

Traffic Statistics Linux Server 1.2.0.0
IP traffic statistics and bandwidth usage reporting cut by host and service more>> The MZL & Novatech Traffic Statistics Linux Server is intended to run in servers in intranet or on a gateway and allows to view the Linux servers network usage information on Windows workstations as HTML reports. It reads IP packet from libpcap and allows users of the free Windows client to see the amount of bandwidth consumed as an icon in the system tray.
The user is able to see which hosts, services or ports were the top traffic consumers. MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic works on IP packet level, therefore the user gets reports on all the traffic, regardless wether this traffic was made by a browser, a filesharing software or a secure connection. It contains an editor for specification of local addresses and ports to be captured or not captured. This allows to capture traffic to a proxy or VPN but exclude the rest of local traffic.
MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic can be useful for many diffrent people:
- broadband (like DSL or cable) users with a volume metered (bandwidth limited) charge plan have always an eye on the currently accumulated consumed traffic.
- internet users with a flatrate can see whether a cheaper metered charge plan might be appropriate for their consumption habbits
- internet users are able to see, which services cause the most traffic
- internet users are able to see, how much traffic was consumed with their top target hosts
- operators of dedicated servers in a bandwidth metered charge plan get up-to-date statistics
- network operators can see bandwidth consumption cut by host and service of all machines in the local net
MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic contains an IP detail record (IPDR) generator developed on basis of ACE. MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic has be installed with administrator privilegues.
It is distributed as binaries for Linux with lib_c like Redhat 9, Suse 9 or Debian Sarge. The Traffic Statistics Windows client is needed to configure the Linux Server.<<less

NetworkManager 0.6.5
NetworkManager is a network connection manager. more>>
Supports Ethernet, WiFi, VPN connections.
Networking on Linux should not suck like it does right now for the desktop user. The desktop user should never need to use the command-line to configure their network; it should "Just Work" as automatically as possible and intrude as little as possible into the users workflow.
The computer should use the wired network connection when its plugged in, but automatically switch to a wireless connection when the user unplugs it and walks away from the desk.
Likewise, when the user plugs the computer back in, the computer should switch back to the wired connection. The user should, most times, not even notice that their connection has has been managed for them; they should simply see uninterrupted network connectivity.
Flexible, Extendable, and Open
The most important pieces of NetworkManager are desktop-environment and distribution agnostic, functioning just as well in Gnome, KDE, Xfce, etc. across distributions like Fedora Core, Debian, Gentoo, and Slackware.
And since the NetworkManager components communicate with each other using dbus, its easy to rip out and replace any of the User Interface pieces at any time.
Application Integration
Using the awesome power and flexibility of dbus and hal, NetworkManager provides facilities for other desktop applications like browsers and email clients to be aware of the networks state and adjust their operation accordingly for features like offline operation.
