Millers Quest! 0.9.1
Millers Quest! is a fire-and-forget RPG, or more accurately, an RPG simulator. more>>
Millers Quest! is a role-playing simulator game. It could also be described as a "fire-and-forget role-playing game". In other words, it is not a role-playing game in the most traditional sense, because there is absolutely no player interaction. The emphasis on this game is the simulation of role-playing.
So, it is a completely non-interactive computer role-playing game. "I guess its not fun then", I can hear you say. Wrong! Millers Quest! is, in fact, very much fun. It has all of the excitement of traditional MMORPGs with none of the effort to be put in mindless treadmilling.
You can watch your character grow more potent and more powerful, and you dont need to bore yourself with details like "okay, attack the monster, Im going to win anyway".
Millers Quest! was largely inspired by its direct ancestor, Progress Quest. It is written in Ruby programming language and as such it was largely also inspired by Dwemthys Array, without any of its clever metaprogramming stuff and general bore of having to use irb to play it.
Players of Progress Quest should be right at home with Millers Quest!. What tells MQ and PQ apart is the fact that MQ is not entirely progress-driven. In MQ, all monsters have actual stats. Theres actual, stats- and probability-based fighting involved.
Since dying in a continually running game is pretty damn boring, you get also revived and healed automatically if that occurs. MQ owes a lot of its continued existence to Ruby Development Tools, the Ruby environment for the Eclipse Platform.
Enhancements:
- The combat system wasnt working quite properly, and is now fixed (somewhat).
- A confusing display message has been fixed.
- New features include optional support for curses/terminfo, allowing better-looking and more comprehensive combat display by coloring the output. (This currently requires tput(1) from ncurses.)

- src/maximap.cpp: change color of shmolluxes when if player can eat them (dark red and bright red)
- src/maximap.cpp: draw an arrow for player, that rotates with him
- src/menu_ingame.cpp: dont unpause game when we enter in options menu
- src/menu_skirmish.cpp: dont unload map from memory twice
- src/game_loop.cpp,src/config_file.cpp: added an "alternate_controls" option that make the player rotate with arrows keys and go sideways with ALT+arrow (same as in 0.6.0). Edit the config file to activate it.

Formido 1.0.1
Formido is one of those games, where you are loaded with some guns and you go shooting different things. more>>
Formido is one of those games, where you are loaded with some guns and you go shooting different things. Things in this case are big, ugly, - not green though - alien insects. The idea is to kill as many of those bastards as possible.
Eventually they will overcome you, but struggle as long as you can. There are some power-ups to aid you in your honorable quest. Keep in mind, that those critters are rather tough and generally do nasty things when in close range of any player-characters.
Formido project is free software released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). Read the included documentation for details.
If you get a super high score, send me some proof (a screenshot will do) and Ill include you to the Hall of Fame.
Enhancements:
- Highscores and configuration are now saved in ~/.formido.
- A memory leak was corrected.

Crossfire TRT 2.1
Crossfire TRT project is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game. more>>
Crossfire TRT project is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game. Unlike the original project, it focuses mainly on stability and playability, but also adds modern technology such as map scripting, Perl server extensions, asynchronous I/O, higher resolution graphics, and better client support.
Main features:
- Death is not permanent, and you can get back all lost stats and experience by playing a game in a special place named Nimbus. You are teleported there when you die and you have to play a game (currently minesweeper) to get out.
- Friendly fire is disabled and playerkilling is also modified. You can only kill another player when you and the other player are hostile. To become hostile, you have to visit the church of Gorokh in Scorn and talk to the priest. To become peaceful again, visit the curch of Valriel and talk to its priest.
- Invitation of other players to where you are is possible with the invite command. You have to solve the invitor quest (see below in maps) to be able to use the command.
- You can follow other players with the follow command when you stand next to the player you want to follow.
- Pet monsters and summoned creatures will not stand in the way of other party members, making it bearable to play with summoning skills in a party.
- Map and graphics artists are working on improved graphics and new maps and quests.
- A new currency: the Royalty. Its worth 100 Platinum and is made of paper. (The bank script was completly rewritten in Perl)
- The communication commands have been rewritten in Perl and an ignore command was added.
- Trade shops have been implemented in Perl, which allows the player to trade items when they are offline.
- Big 64x64 faces and tiles have been introduced, which have a higher detail level than the old 32x32 tiles, and can be used with the CFPlus client.
Enhancements:
- optimised event invocation (non-wanted events can now be skipped with 4-5 inlined instructions).
- complete rewrite of town_portal: it now creates a portal to the "nearest" town only, travel is only possible to the town and back, anybody can use it (also removes one of the remaining syncpoints in the server).
- complete rewrite of the range/attack skill slot system: there are now two slots, one for combat, one for ranged attacks.
- introduce the concept of a current weapon (either a ranged or a combat weapon/skill/tool) and switch between them as needed.
- rewrite bow code so bows get more useful: apply damage, attacktype and other stats to the arrows and treat bows as weapons. also rebalance the missile weapons skill so its damage increases with level.
- rewrite the complete player speed logic: weapon_speed now works as documented and there are no unnatural speed boosts.
- implement a utility - cfutil - that simplifies arch and map installation, replacing the old collect scripts and simplying deployment by scaling and cutting faces as required.
- simplify the map protocol extensively by taking advantage of missing bigfaces, speeding up map generation immensely.
- implement inherit keyword allowing archetypes to inherit from other archetypes.
- rationalise archetype, region and treasurelist file format into a single file format and make them reloadable asynchronously.
- make the worldmap, facedata (smoothing, faces, magicmap) reloadable at runtime.
- implement 64x64 faceset support.
- implement fxixsx protocol that saves a lot of bandwidth over the old image/face/smooth packets and allows images > packetsize, incremental and background transfers.
- implement a bandwidth-saving smoothing protocol that works on a face basis as opposed to a mapspace basis.
- the server can now rate-limit image uploads to not exceed a certain (client-configurable) speed while guarenteeing full freedom of movement.
- implement new ex command to request item descriptions.
- implement new msg command for in-game messages with meta information (using xml).
- enforce utf-8 for all text messages.
- added micropather (not used yet).
- many, many bugfixes.

OurNet::Query 1.56

OurNet::Query is a Perl module for scriptable queries with template extraction.
SYNOPSIS
use OurNet::Query;
# Set query parameters
my ($query, $hits) = (autrijus, 10);
my @sites = (google, google); # XXX: write more templates!
my %found;
# Generate a new Query object
my $bot = OurNet::Query->new($query, $hits, @sites);
# Perform a query
my $found = $bot->begin(&callback, 30); # Timeout after 30 seconds
print *** . ($found ? $found : No) . match(es) found.;
sub callback {
my %entry = @_;
my $entry = %entry;
unless ($found{$entry{url}}) {
print "*** [$entry->{title}]" .
" ($entry->{score})" .
" - [$entry->{id}]n" .
" URL: [$entry->{url}]n";
}
$found{$entry{url}}++;
}
This module provides an easy interface to perform multiple queries to internet services, and wraps them into your own format at once. The results are processed on-the-fly and are returned via callback functions.
Its interfaces resembles that of WWW::Searchs, but implements it in a different fashion. While WWW::Search relies on additional subclasses to parse returned results, OurNet::Query uses site descriptors for search search engine, which makes it much easier to add new backends.
Site descriptors may be written in XML, Template toolkit format, or the .fmt format from the commercial Inforia Quest product.

Heroes 0.21
Heroes project is a Nibbles-like game, just better. more>>
Heroes project is a Nibbles-like game, just better.
Heroes is similar to the "Tron" and "Nibbles" games of yore, but includes many graphical improvements and new game features.
In it, you must maneuver a small vehicle around a world and collect powerups while avoiding obstacles, your opponents trails, and even your own trail.
There are five game modes available. Quest is the classical Nibbles, in Death Match you start with very long tails and must kill your opponents, in Killem All you must run over lemmings moving on the ground, in Time Cash or Color modes you must collect money or pyramids of color. Heroes features 12 original sound tracks, 94 levels (in 10 different tile sets) plus a level editor.
Heroes source code (distributed under the GNU General Public Licence version 2) originates from an original MS-DOS game but has been heavily modified to enhance the portability. Some new features have been added and MS-DOS support has been lost by the meantime. The original MS-DOS version can still be found on the Internet but is unmaintained and should be considered obsolete.
The current development concentrates on cleaning the code and porting the game to the various operating systems available. Our objective is to release the version 1.0 as a clean and portable base that would allow significant additions such as network support or programmable vehicles.
Enhancements:
- Support for the heroes-hq-sound-tracks package.
Bug fixes:
- soundconf: failed to override aliases.
- Heroes GGI driver failed to report an error if no two-frame mode was available.
- Various code nits.

<<lessAs a player, you are able to choose what skills and abilities you will develop as you voyage though the complex and dangerous fantasy world of Forgotten Realms. Be a deadly and dangerous Rogue moving through the shadows using stealth and secrecy, be a scholarly Wizard and wield powerful magic against your enemies, be a hulking Barbarian whose lust for battle is matched only by his terrible rage, be an armor-clad Paladin who protects the innocent and vanquishes his foes, be a crusading Cleric who heals the sick and defends the helpless... be all this and more.
Neverwinter Nights allows you to create your own worlds. This revolutionary game will come with all the tools needed to construct your own unique lands of adventure. The Neverwinter Nights Aurora Toolset allows even novice users to construct everything from a quiet, misty forest or a dripping cavern of foul evil, to a kings court. All the monsters, items, set pieces and settings are there for world builders to use. But do not stop there; construct traps, encounters, custom monsters and magic items to make your adventure unique.
But the Neverwinter experience is not just for one person- adventure with all your friends. Neverwinter Nights can be played online with up to 64 friends, all sharing in the adventure. You can organize and run your own adventures through the role of the Dungeon Master and control all the monsters, creatures and characters your friends meet as they journey on their quest. A powerful piece of software that is included with Neverwinter Nights, the DM Client, allows nearly unlimited control for running your own adventures for your friends.
Neverwinter Nights...endless adventure!

KQ Lives! project is an old school RPG.
Take the part of one of eight mighty heroes as you search for the Staff of Xenarum. Visit over twenty different locations, fight a multitude of evil monsters, wield deadly weapons, and cast powerful spells.
On your quest, you will find out how the Oracle knows everything, who killed the former master of the Embers guild, why no one trusts the old man in the manor, and what exactly is terrorizing the poor Denorians.
It was abandoned by its original author and rescued by the Allegro community. KQ runs on DOS, Windows, Linux, and OS X.

Crossfire+ 2.0
Crossfire+ server is located in southern germany and has a fast connection. more>>
Its main purpose, besides being fun to play, is to demo the specific versions of the server, archetypes and maps used by crossfire+. All files can be freely downloaded via CVS on the the crossfire+ project page.
It is especially suited for beginners who do not want to experience a very sharp and frustrating learning curve and party players who want to play together more easily.
Main features:
- Death is not permanent.
- Death causes no stats depletion and little experience points loss.
- Friendly fire causes no damage.
- Pet monsters and summoned creatures will not stand in the way of other party members, making it bearable to play with summoning skills in a party.
- The item power setting is "2".
- The crossfire maps can be viewed interactively at cfmaps.schmorp.de.
- We import your character file from other crossfire servers, up to some level, so you can use your character you played with at home, for example. Send your character files to crossfire@schmorp.de. Please dont send artifically improved characters.
- Player-killing is, as usual, not tolerated.
- If you want to try out a map on a public server, feel free to send it in.
- Map and graphics artists are working on improved graphics and new maps and quests.
- Due to the filthy ;) code quality, the server restarts automatically after a crash (within one minute).
- Emergency saves are disabled.
- You can reach the admins via IRC: server irc.schmorp.de (alternatively irc.plan9.de), channel #schmorp, user(s) schmorp or elmex.
- You can reach the admins via E-Mail: crossfire@schmorp.de.
- We are sometimes running the release, sometimes a CVS (not latest CVS) snapshot with some patches applied. If you encounter problems fixed in a newer snapshot feel free to report it.
- Player files and other variable data is backed up nightly to two different locations.
How to Connect
To connect to the server using e.g. cfclient or gcfclient, use this command:
cfclient -server crossfire.schmorp.de
or maybe...
cfclient -server crossfire.schmorp.de -mapsize 19x19 -font 9x15bold -cache
or you could use gcfclient or any other crossfire client.
If you use Debian GNU/Linux, you can find the clients in the crossfire-server-x11 and crossfire-server-gtk packages.
Enhancements:
- Large parts of the server have been rewritten.
- Map loading and saving and most I/O is done asynchronously, eliminating I/O-based lag.
- The server now regularly writes maps and players, so data loss on crash is minimized.
- Over 40 Perl extensions are available, such as a IRC gateway, transports, playershop, and minesweeper.
- The map system is now completely pluggable (for example, the world map is generated on the fly from an overlay).
- The file formats have been cleaned up and improved and use a faster parser now.
- A persistent database is available for data storage.
