Network Leak Finder 0.1a

Network Leak Finder 0.1a

Netleak is a collection of small perlscripts that detects connectivity between network segments. more>>
Netleak is a collection of small perlscripts that detects connectivity between network segments. It is mostly useful to detect "leaks" in large organizations that have private networks physically separated from the Internet.

Imagine some large corporation which has an internal development LAN were all sorts of sensitive information is flowing around. This corporation would likely have some very strict rules as to how its employees access the internet or other partner branches in order to
protect its information. For the systemadinistrator this is a daunting task - as the corporate LAN grows keeping track of all the routes through the network becomes extremely difficult. Some routers might simply have been forgotten over time or an employee might have gone wise and connected his own adsl-router or something alike.

Network Leak Finder tries to detect this in a centralized manner by sending out spoofed packets into the internal network and if any packets finds a way onto the external network, a "leak" has been detected. As an anology it works the same way you would find a hole in
a bucket: fill it with water and see if anything leaks.

In most scenarios the external network would be the Internet since everybody should be afraid of what their corporate LANs are leaking to it!

Netdisco 0.95

Netdisco 0.95

Netdisco is an Open Source web-based network management tool. more>>
Netdisco is an Open Source web-based network management tool.
Designed for moderate to large networks, configuration information and connection data for network devices are retrieved by SNMP. With Netdisco you can locate the switch port of an end-user system by IP or MAC address. Data is stored using a SQL database for scalability and speed.
Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) optionally provides automatic discovery of the network topology. The network is inventoried by both device model and operating system (like IOS). Netdisco uses router ARP tables and L2 switch MAC forwarding tables to locate nodes on physical ports and track them by their IP addresses.
For each node, a time stamped history of the ports it has visited and the IP addresses it has used is maintained. Netdisco gets all its data, including CDP topology information, with SNMP polls and DNS queries. It does not use CLI access and has no need for privilege passwords. Security features include a wire-side Wireless Access Point (AP) locator.
Main features:
Switch Ports
- Central location to disable/enable switch ports.
- Network administrators can disable and enable ports without having to know enable or privilege passwords. Reasons for switching on/off ports are logged for end-of-the-year auditing and reporting. Non-IOS savvy managers can control port access from a familiar browser interface. This feature was designed with a University Residential Networks (ResNet) in mind.
- Only users you specify in Netdisco will have access to switch off a port. Netdisco will also not allow people to switch off uplink ports by accident.
- MAC Address to switch port resolution.
- IP Address to switch port resolution.
- Find Switch Ports with multiple nodes attached
- Find nodes using multiple IP addresses
- Find nodes by vendor (using MAC address OUI)
Easy Administration
- Navigation through a Web Interface. Maintenance through a Command Line Interface (CLI).
- Database store for scalability and speed (Postgresql).
- Easily extendible to new network device types and vendors.
- Built-in user system to restrict access to sensitive data and features.
Network Administration and Security
- Administratively enable/disable switch ports from web interface with logging.
- Automatic inventory and search of network hardware.
- Duplex Mismatch Finder for uplink ports.
- Find rouge Wireless Access Points (APs) from the wired-side of network.
- Layer-Two Traceroute
Reporting
- Netdisco creates a clickable graph/map of your network topology.
- Get statistics of the number of actual nodes connected to network and their address-space usage.
- Optional integration with a Pinnacle Database.
- Inventory of Network Devices:
- by Operating System (IOS,CatOS,HP...)
- by Model, Vendor, OSI Layer, DNS Name
- Find devices using IP Addresses without DNS entries.
Enhancements:
- This is a major release with many enhancements, including Apache2 support, per-port VLAN control on some devices, wireless network SSID inventory, significantly-expanded device support with support of SNMP::Info, and many bugfixes.

Modest Ordinary Differential Equation Library 1.0.3

Modest Ordinary Differential Equation Library 1.0.3

Modest Ordinary Differential Equation Library is a C++ library to model rate equations. more>>
Modest Ordinary Differential Equation Library is a C++ library to model rate equations.
MODEL is a numeric simulation library written during my PhD to simulate systems of rate equations describing Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs). I decided to write one myself after looking at existing libraries and deciding that they were either too complicated to use (having a target user base of mathematicians) or too opaque (i like to know what the code is doing, exactly).
Since most of my programming before has been done in C/C++, what you see here is a C++ library composed of various interacting classes which have the following main functionalities:
deterministic integration of any system of well-behaved differential equations.
- stochastic integration of these systems, with the possibility of specifying the correlations present in the noise
- nonlinear rootfinder, to find stationary solutions
- eigenvalue determination, for stability analysis
- easy time modulation of input parameters
- diverse data collecting classes for data analysis
- Small signal analysis (first order)
The following will be added RSN:
- Fourier transforms, for spectral analysis (although this can be done in an external program)
- Periodic solution finder
It furthermore provides a numerical vector class, vectorfunction classes, LU solver and random generators.
As I developed it using publicly available resources, GNU/Linux and other GPLed software, I decided that it should be GPL as well. However (Oh no, a "however" ! Lets hope it does not invalidate the copyleft), I would very much appreciate it if you let me know if you have used MODEL in any of your applications/simulations/research and provide a reference (this way, I can refer to your work, too).
At the moment, MODEL has the rather arbitrary version number 1.0. Meaning it is useful. Period. Some interfaces (especially the stochastics) might still change, and I would like to add some ieee floating point exception trapping to avoid silly numerical errors.
Enhancements:
- Add features/limitations/changes here

Distributed Internet Backup System 0.92

Distributed Internet Backup System 0.92

Distributed Internet Backup System works by doing all its communication through email. more>>
Distributed Internet Backup System works by doing all its communication through email. The benefit of using email for transport is that clients behind firewalls or with intermittent connections to the Internet can use DIBS reliably.
Since disk drives are cheap, backup should be cheap too. Of course it does not help to mirror your data by adding more disks to your own computer because a virus, fire, flood, robbery, power surge, etc. could still wipe out your local data center.
Instead, you should give your files to peers (and in return store their files) so that if a catastrophe strikes your area, you can recover data from surviving peers. The Distributed Internet Backup System (DIBS) is designed to implement this vision.
Note that DIBS is a backup system not a file sharing system like Napster, Gnutella, Kazaa, etc. In fact, DIBS encrypts all data transmissions so that the peers you trade files with can not access your data.
Enhancements:
- Added Peer Finder service to allow advertising and automated exchange of peering information. See manual for details.
- Updated add_peer and edit_peer commands to allow sizes to be specified using k, m, g, t (e.g., 10k, 10m, 10g, 10t).
- Updated the protocol DIBS uses to exchange store, unstore, probe, and other messages between peers. The new protocol is XML based to allow easier debugging, parsing, and extensions.
- Fixed a deadlock bug reported by Jason Martin in a message to the dibs-discussion mailing list.
- Made the daemon run its periodic checks like spawnning auto_check, process_message, etc., as soon as it starts up.
- Other minor bug fixes and improvements

MemCheck Deluxe 1.2.2

MemCheck Deluxe 1.2.2

MemCheck Deluxe is a memory usage tracker and leak finder. more>>
MemCheckDeluxe is an enhanced leak finder/memory profiler. It tracks all the memory allocated, and can report where it was created at the end of a program (memory that would have been leaked).

It tracks the largest and smallest chunks allocated, the maximum memory used, and the highest number of allocations at any time. Some headway has been made to allow C++s allocation operators new and delete to be tracked.

Usage

To use it, #define _MCD_CHECK, include mcd.h, and add mcd.c to the list of source files to build in your project. then, call showMemStats() at any time to see the currently outstanding allocations and usage stats.

If you dont define _MCD_CHECK, it compiles away, improving performance. It is probably not a good idea to have some parts of a library use mcd, and not others. Pointers created in non-mcd parts wont be tracked and may confuse mcd, and stuff made in mcd, and freed elsewhere wont be properly cleaned up internally, leading to false leaks.

When included, a warning is normally issued, informing the user that performance will be affected. If this gets annoying, define MCD_QUIET to make it go away.

When including mcd.h, be sure to make it the last file included, as it redefines some macros. including things after it, especially system headers (stdlib.h, etc) can cause some nasty error messages and it will fail to compile anything.

One can define MCD_VERBOSE to have each and every malloc, calloc, realloc, strdup, strndup, and free be written to the RealTime log, including the size, calling function, and line number. The RealTime log defaults to stderr, but can be set to any file you want with
_MCD_RealTimeLog(FILE*fp). Just make sure the file is opened for writing/appending, and all verbosity will go there instead.

Please note that if you want RealTime log output, you MUST define MCD_VERBOSE.

With default settings, free(NULL) will simply return, providing you with an error message in the RealTime log if verbose was enabled. If you are working with a C library that acts differently when free(null) happens, define MCD_FREE_NULL, and it will generate the log message, and then perform the native free.

Using this is probably seldom needed, and will probably lead to a crash when/if it happens, providing you with a nice coredump to analyze. Again, this only applies if your C librarys free(null) does something other than simply return.

There is a new flag, _MCD_GONE, that will remove all MCD code from the end product. It must be defined when compiling both mcd.c, and any other file that includes mcd.h. Note that defining _MCD_CHECK has no effect when _MCD_GONE is defined. The savings from this are about 15-20k (4-5k stripped).
