Palantir 2.7
Palantir is a Linux-based streaming system designed to transmit live video, audio and data over a TCP/IP network. more>>
Palantir is a Linux-based streaming system designed to transmit live video, audio and data over a TCP/IP network, as well as to control remote devices.
Palantir program is named after a word invented by J. R. R. Tolkien and mentioned in his tales, whose meaning is far-seer. The correct pronounciation requires the "i" in "tir" to be accented.
While conceptually similar to the many webcam-like products populating the modern Internet, some unique features set a considerable distance between Palantir and its competitors.
Main features:
- The video streaming section was designed with performance in mind. Even a low-end machine can directly sustain the load of many hundreds of clients, without the need for an intermediate buffering server.
- The vast choice of clients able to display the live video stream ranges from regular web browsers to a specialized client for Windows which requires no installation - just download and go.
- A Qt-based client for Linux is also available.
- The availability of a full-duplex, telephone-quality audio channel permits communication between server and one client at a time - your remotely controlled site is just a microphone and a speaker away.
- A supplementary, bidirectional data channel enables clients to operate hardware devices of any kind connected to the server via a serial line, as well as to get feedback from them and present it to the user in graphical form. Examples of these devices include pan/tilt/zoom machinery, flood lights, temperature sensors, strain gauges, etc..
Palantir can stream over a LAN, a VPN, or the Internet at large. Fields of application span from surveillance to entertainment, industrial process control and site monitoring.

Konsole DCOP Scheme Automation Tool 0.9.0
Konsole DCOP Scheme Automation Tool consists of a bash script which automatically changes the Konsole schema. more>>
Konsole DCOP Scheme Automation Tool consists of a bash script which automatically changes the Konsole schema.
This is a Bash script to automatically set the desired Konsole Schema when apps such as VIM and less are executed.
It is a simple Bash script I wrote which allows you to automatically have the desired schema set when apps are run from within the shell.
For example, by default, when the user runs VIM with this script installed, the Konsole schema will switch to "VIM Colors" for the duration the user is in VIM. When the user exits VIM, the schema will change back to whatever it was before VIM was run. Other apps this script is setup for by default are:
$ less
$ man
$ info
$ watch
$ top
$ htop
I decided to create this because I became tired of switching my Konsole schema whenever I ran vim. I am now releasing it to everyone as Im sure someone else out there will find this usefull too.
This is a also nice way to impress your friends with how much more advanced the Linux shell is than those of the competitors! ;)
Users may also wish to enable this for other applications, such as mutt. To do so, simply edit the file ~/.konsole_dcop/schemas and follow the existing syntax.
Enhancements:
- This is the initial release.
- It is expected to be fairly stable and fully usable.
- If you have any bugs to report, please do so in the Issues category of the project homepage. Thank you.

OpenLab 4.Z Beta
OpenLab is a thin client-enabled Linux distribution based on Slackware Linux. more>>
OpenLab is a GNU/Linux distribution, created by Direq International. OpenLab focuses primarily on the education market, yet more generally on Community Access Solutions. OpenLab has a particular strength in powering thin-client systems.
OpenLab currently runs in hundreds of schools and community access points throughout Africa, and on countless home, business and school desktops (through free download).
OpenLab was originally based on slackware (a Linux distribution) and maintains full package level binary compatibility with its parent system. However, OpenLab is an independant development with a different design philosophy. OpenLab built on the premise that the solution works out of the box. Each succesive version makes significant strides toward an ever greater user experience.
OpenLab makes the setup of a thin-client server easier than it has ever been before. Intuitive responses to simple questions (during and post-installation) allow thin-client setup and configuration. And on the thin-clients itself, Direq-designed tools make hardware conguration, multimedia, storage -device access and applications easier and more accessible than ever before.
OpenLabs primary market has been the Education sector, and thus many unique innovations and designs for the education market distinguish OpenLab from its competitors.
OpenLabs default installation consists entirely of Free/Libre and Open-Source Software (FLOSS), although non-free software is optionally available where no viable alternatives yet exist.

Statistics::RankOrder 0.12
Statistics::RankOrder contains algorithms for determining overall rankings from a panel of judges. more>>
Statistics::RankOrder contains algorithms for determining overall rankings from a panel of judges.
SYNOPSIS
use Statistics::RankOrder;
my $r = Statistics::RankOrder->new();
$r->add_judge( [qw( A B C )] );
$r->add_judge( [qw( A C B )] );
$r->add_judge( [qw( B A C )] );
my %ranks = $r->mean_rank;
my %ranks = $r->trimmed_mean_rank(1);
my %ranks = $r->median_rank;
my %ranks = $r->best_majority_rank;
This module offers algorithms for combining the rank-ordering of candidates by a panel of judges. For the purpose of this module, the term "candidates" means candidates in an election, brands in a taste-test, competitors in a sporting event, and so on. "Judges" means those rank-ordering the candidates, whether these are event judges, voters, etc. Unlike "voting" algorithms (e.g. majority-rule or single-transferable-vote), these algorithms require judges to rank-order all candidates. (Ties may be permissible for some algorithms).
Algorithms included are:
Lowest-Mean
Trimmed-Lowest-Mean
Median-Rank
Best-of-Majority
In this alpha version, there is minimal error checking. Future versions will have more robust error checking and may have additional ranking methods such as pair-ranking methods.

Ham Radio Control Libraries 1.2.6.2
Ham Radio Control Libraries, Hamlib for short, is a development effort to provide a consistent interface for programmers. more>>
Ham Radio Control Libraries is a development effort to provide a consistent interface for programmers wanting to incorporate radio control in their programs.
Hamlib is not a complete user application, rather, it is a software layer intended to make controlling various radios and other shack hardware much easier.
Hamlib will allow authors of such software as logging programs, digital communications programs, or those wanting to develop the ultimate radio control software to concentrate on the user interface and the basic function of the program rather than radio control.
Most recent amateur radio transceivers allow external control of their functions through a serial interface. Unfortunately, control commands are not always consistent across a manufacturers product line and each manufacturers product line differs greatly from its competitors.
Hamlib attempts to solve this problem by presenting a "virtual radio" to the programmer by providing an API to actions such as setting a given VFOs frequency, setting the operating mode, querying the radio of its current status and settings, and giving the application a list of a given radios capabilities. Unfortunately, what can be accomplished by hamlib is limited by the radios themselves and some offer very limited capability.

Dupseek 1.3
Dupseek is a command-line interactive perl program to find and remove duplicate files. more>>
Dupseek is a command-line interactive perl program to find and remove duplicate files.
A few strategies are possible for finding duplicate files in a big set, such as a heavily populated directory.
One of the most widely used consists of grouping files by size (because files of different size cant be identical) and then computing a short digital fingerprint (such as a md5 checksum) for the files.
Files with a different fingerprint are different, and files with the same digital fingerprint are very probably the same. Just to be sure, one can further check possible duplicates.
Main features:
- It starts by grouping files by size.
- Then it starts reading small chunks of the files of the same size and comparing them. It creates smaller groups depending on these comparisons.
- It goes on with bigger and bigger chunks (of size up to a hard-coded limit).
- It stops reading from files as soon as they form a single-element group or they are read completely (which only happens when they have a very high probability of having duplicates).
This algorithm is much more efficient than competitors when dealing with large files of the same size. When files differ, reading usually stops after very few reads.
Dupseek (and destroy) can be interrupted at any moment. The user is then presented with partial results and can either intervene manually or go on with the reading and computation, on a group-by-group basis. Since subsequent reads happen sparsely in the file, if some files are still in the same group after many iterations, they are most probably identical, unless the differences are very small.

System.FilePath 0.11
System.FilePath is a Haskell library from Yhc originally, now with added tweaks. more>>
System.FilePath is a Haskell library from Yhc originally, now with added tweaks. Pure Haskell 98 (with Hierarchical libraries), no preprocessor. It has a nice interface for doing file manipulations, and works portably between Windows and Unix. [Not the same as http://darcs.haskell.org/~lemmih/FilePath/]
The interface is still changing, for that reason please use System.FilePath.Version_0_10 or System.FilePath.Version_0_11 which will be guaranteed to work unmodified in future releases.
I have written a System.FilePath module in part based on the one in
Yhc, and in part based on the one in Cabal (thanks to Lemmih). The aim
is to try and get this module into the base package, as FilePaths are
something many programs use, but its all too easy to hack up a little
function that gets it right most of the time on most platforms, and
there lies a source of bugs.
This module is Posix (Linux) and Windows capable - just import
System.FilePath and it will pick the right one. Of course, if you
demand Windows paths on all OSs, then System.FilePath.Windows will
give you that (same with Posix). Written in Haskell 98 + Heirarchical
Modules.

Competitors
System.FilePath from Cabal, by Lemmih
FilePath.hs and NameManip.hs from MissingH
The one from Cabal and FilePath.hs in MissingH are both very similar, I
stole lots of good ideas from those two.
NameManip seems to be more unix specific, but all functions in that module
have equivalents in this new System.FilePath module.
Hopefully this new module can be used without noticing any lost functions,
and certainly adds new features/functions to the table.
Should FilePath by an abstract data type?
The answer for this library is no. This is a deliberate design decision.
In Haskell 98 the definition is type FilePath = String, and all functions
operating on FilePaths, i.e. readFile/writeFile etc take FilePaths. The
only way to introduce an abstract type is to provide wrappers for these
functions or casts between Strings and FilePathAbstracts.
There are also additional questions as to what constitutes a FilePath, and
what is just a pure String. For example, "/path/file.ext" is a FilePath. Is
"/" ? "/path" ? "path" ? "file.ext" ? ".ext" ? "file" ?
With that being accepted, it should be trivial to write
System.FilePath.ByteString which has the same interface as System.FilePath
yet operates on ByteStrings.
<<lessThe interface is still changing, for that reason please use System.FilePath.Version_0_10 or System.FilePath.Version_0_11 which will be guaranteed to work unmodified in future releases.

Etlinux 1.2.1
Etlinux is a complete Linux-based system designed to run on very small industrial computers. more>>
etLinux is an embedded linux distribution, intended for PC/104 boards with flash disk (like M-Systems DiskOnChip) with very little memory and disk space (starting from 2Mb of RAM and 2Mb of flash disk).
Subsequently well refer to the development platform as the "host system" and to the target machine (the one on which etLinux will run) ad the "target system".
Etlinux is a complete Linux-based system designed to run on very small industrial computers. It has been designed to be small, modular, flexible and complete.
Its reduced memory and disk requirements make it ideal for all cost-sensitive situations, while at the same time its modularity and completeness give the full power of unix even for embedded applications.
Etlinux is ideal in all embedded system applications where advanced unix facilities are a must: preemptive multitasking, multithreading, memory protection, fast I/O, enhanced reliability, speed, ...
Moreover, source code availability is a guarantee for the longevity of Etlinux based products.
But perhaps the greatest advantage over competitors is given by the enormous and proven availability of advanced development tools, documentation and sources, giving an effective edge to the developer and reducing the time to market.
In fact the availability of constantly updated quality C/C++ compilers, debuggers, libraries, interpreted languages, and other tools is the most compelling reason to switch away from old proprietary embedded development environments.
Main features:
- embedded cgi-capable WEB server
- a telnet server
- an email server, with the ability to execute commands sent by email from a remote site
- CORBA support
- easy-to-use remote file management
- the powerful Tcl scripting language
- a flexible package selection scheme, allowing an easy customization of the system
- source code available for every component

Kapitalist 0.3
Kapitalist is a Monopoly-like board game for 2-8 players. more>>
Kapitalist project is a Monopoly-like board game for 2-8 players. Walk around the board, buy properties, receive rent from your competitors, try to get monopolies to build houses and hotels on them and finally be the richest on the board.
Kapitalist is server-based (the server called capitalist) and is written for KDE 2.x. Nevertheless it should also work fine with other desktop environments provided you have the KDE 2.x/Qt 2.x libraries installed.
