TuxGuardian 0.5

TuxGuardian 0.5

TuxGuardian is an application-based firewall. more>>
TuxGuardian is an application-based firewall. TuxGuardian was developed after the observation that Linux security applications were not tailored for lay users. With TuxGuardian youll be able to implement access control policies to the network resources in order to identify and control every application that tries to access the network.
All this means that now you can make your machine secure by controlling and forbidding transmission and reception of data by unauthorized applications.
TuxGuardian makes use of the latest security mechanisms included in the Linux kernel 2.6, such as the LSM framework, and is really simple to use (thats the intention!).
TuxGuardian is free software distributed under the GNU GPL, which means that you can help too!.
TuxGuardian can be used in the next situations:
If you want to protect you computer against spywares, trojans and other evil pieces of software;
If you want to have an additional layer of protection working on a per-application basis,
besides a packet-filtering firewall or other low level security mechanisms;
If you want to stop backdoors and rootkits which modify the expected behavior of your applications from accessing the network;
If you want to implement the internal security of your network (this is specially useful since ordinary firewalls usually only take care of external threats);
If you want to implement an extra security layer in your network, in addition to the one provided by institutional firewalls and gateways;
Main features:
- Detects unauthorized applications trying to act like a client or a server;
- Operates with or without user intervention;
- Verifies the applications integrity so that maliciously modified software wont be able to send or receive data through the network;
- Uses a three-layered architecture of independent modules, which eases the task of addings new features and functionality;

Document Library 1.2b2

Document Library 1.2b2

Document Library is a Web application for document management in larger organizations with a lot of documents. more>>
Document Library is a Web application for document management in larger organizations with a lot of documents.
Organizations deal with numerous documents, such as word processor documents and PDFs. These documents often reside on someones computer and are not network accessible. Versions of documents are hard to track - the same document may be passed around using email in multiple versions over time. In large organizations it therefore becomes important to structure the flow of documents and present them in a common format. This is typically done using a document management system. Document Library is one such document management system.
Information in the Document Library can be accessed using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), meaning that besides being open source, the Document Library is also a good example of an open data application. Because it is open data, the Document Library is easier to integrate with other applications, such as the Silva CMS or any other application capable of OAI-PMH harvesting.
Main features:
- Automatic conversion service: using OpenOffice, the Document Library can convert Word documents into PDFs and plain text, PDFs into plain text. The plain text version is important in that it allows for full-text indexing of document contents, and also makes documents more accessible to people with disabilities.
- Publication workflow: documents only become available for harvesting and download after a review process.
- Delegation of control: reviewers ("librarians") can be assigned to particular sections.
- Dynamic access: authors have automatic access to all the documents that list them as an author.
- Versions: multiple versions of the same document can coexist, one public and one under preparation.
- Email reminder functionality: users receive emails of the progress of the document through the workflow.
- OAI-PMH data provider: allows other systems to harvest document metadata using standard protocol.
- Integration with Silva CMS (using OAI-PMH).
- Fast upload and download integration with Apache using Tramline.
- Easy overview screens for librarians.
- Smart file upload user interface: files need to be uploaded only once even if rest of form needs to be amended.
- Document Library is built using the powerful Zope 3 application server platform.
Enhancements:
- Installation was made easier by using zc.buildout.
- Optional LDAP support was added.
- Filesystem storage was integrated with Tramline.
- The conversion provided by OooConv was improved.
- Table rendering was improved using zc.table.
- Zope was updated to 3.3.

plugdaemon 2.5.3

plugdaemon 2.5.3

Plugdaemon is a tool that is inspired by, but not based on, the plug-gw from Trusted Information Systems. more>>
Plugdaemon is a tool that is inspired by, but not based on, the plug-gw from Trusted Information Systems. It was originally a simpler wannabe, but the connection balancing code and other features makes it a lot more useful (as of 2.3.1 its also a feature-complete replacement for plug-gw).
Plugdaemon acts as a "dumb proxy", forwarding a TCP/IP stream from a port on one host to a possibly different port on a separate host. It runs as a daemon to reduce latency in setting up a connection, and optionally logs every connection via syslog. Eventually plugdaemon will be a complete load balancing and monitoring package for servers.
Not all the planned features are implemented in 2.x.
Enhancements:
- Code cleanup, hash connection structures.
- Dietlibc support by Alexander Lazic (see Makefile)
- Fix load-balancing (Ben Low).

Serlvers is a set of Erlang modules designed to help in the implementation of IP services (i.e. TCP/IP or Internet servers).

Serlvers consists of a set of behaviours to abstract the internals of each protocol, and other modules to help with the infrastructure.

Serlverss goal is that when making a server, you only need worry about how to store, handle, process, etc. the information instead of the internals of each protocol (to save countless hours of RFC reading).

Installation:

SCons is used to compile and install this package.
First check out the variables you need to set by running:
scons --help

Youll need to set PREFIX, the prefix directory (where Erlang is installed, it contains something like: bin erts-5.4.13 Install lib misc releases usr) and at the same time you set it, itll compile.

Then run:

scons install

to install. You might need sudo or su to reach superuser capabilities.

For example:

$ scons PREFIX=/usr/lib/erlang
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
scons: done reading SConscript files.
scons: Building targets ...
erl -noshell -run edoc_run files ["src/launcher.erl","src/gen_echo.erl","src/gen_chargen.erl","src/gen_daytime.erl","src/gen_time.erl"] [{dir, "doc/"}] -run init stop
erlc -o src/ src/gen_chargen.erl
erlc -o src/ src/gen_daytime.erl
erlc -o src/ src/gen_echo.erl
erlc -o src/ src/gen_time.erl
erlc -o src/ src/launcher.erl
scons: done building targets.
$ sudo scons install
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
scons: done reading SConscript files.
scons: Building targets ...
Install file: "src/gen_chargen.beam" as "/usr/lib/erlang/lib/serlvers-0.1.0/ebin/gen_chargen.beam"
Install file: "src/gen_daytime.beam" as "/usr/lib/erlang/lib/serlvers-0.1.0/ebin/gen_daytime.beam"

Network Pipemeter 0.40

Network Pipemeter 0.40

Network Pipemeter is a tool for measuring available bandwidth between hosts. more>>
Network Pipemeter is a tool for measuring available bandwidth between hosts. nepim is also useful to generate network traffic for testing purposes.
nepim operates in client/server mode, is able to handle multiple parallel traffic streams, reports periodic partial statistics along the testing, and supports IPv6.
nepim has been tested under Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD, though it should work under other platforms as well. If you manage to build nepim for different systems, please send the patch.
- nepim is useful to assess the throughput at the transport layer (TCP or UDP) as seen by applications.
- nepim runs single-threaded and should impose very light burden on your CPU. Unless, of course, your testing hosts have relatively high network bandwidth compared to low CPU power.
- One single server can service multiple clients simultaneously.
- As of nepim 0.11, one single client can interact simultaneously with multiple servers. For instance, suppose you want to test, from a single client, two remote servers, one located at 10.0.0.1,2000 and another at 192.168.0.1,3000:
- nepim -c 10.0.0.1,2000/192.168.0.1,3000
- The server listens to both TCP and UDP sockets. The client by default uses TCP sockets. Use the "-u" client option to switch the client operation to UDP.
- By default, only the server sends traffic towards the client. Use the "-s" client option to reverse the behavior, then only the client will send traffic. Use the "-d" client option to make both client and server to send traffic.
- Use the "-r" client option to establish an upper bit rate limit. Without a rate limiting option, nepim sends as fast as possible. See also "-R" below. Please notice the rate is specified in bps (bits per seconds); for instance, the following example states a rate limit of 100,000 bps (100 Kbps):
- nepim -c 10.0.0.1 -r 100000
- Use the "-R" client option to establish an upper "packet" rate limit (outbound rate limit for transport layer segments). Without a rate limiting option, nepim sends as fast as possible. If both "-r" and "-R" are given, nepim limits the sending rate at the lower of those bounds.
- Use the "-n" client option to run multiple parallel traffic streams.
- Use the "-b" server option to make the server to listen on specific local addresses.
- Use the "-6" option to disable IPv6 support.
Enhancements:
- Support for randomizing the UDP destination address/port has been added in order to put stress on routers with on-demand (dynamic) forwarding table caches.
