Free xscreensaver software for linux

XScreensaver program waits until the keyboard and mouse have been idle for a period, and then runs a graphics demo chosen at random. XScreenSaver turns off as soon as there is any mouse or keyboard activity.
It can also lock the screen (immediately, after a longer idle period, or on demand.) xscreensaver consists of two parts: xscreensaver itself (the ``driver or ``daemon), which detects idleness and does locking; and the many graphics demos that are launched by xscreensaver.
Any X program that can draw on the root window can be used with xscreensaver, regardless of how that program is written, or what language it is written in, or what libraries it uses. The xscreensaver daemon takes care of detecting when the user is idle, locking, and checking passwords and all the other book-keeping; all the other programs need to do is draw.
The benefit that xscreensaver has over the combination of the xlock and xautolock programs is the ease with which new graphics hacks can be installed. You dont need to recompile (or even re-run) the xscreensaver program to add a new display mode, you just change a config file.

xscreensaver lock window themes is a replacement for ugly password lock window.
XScreenSaver is a ubiquitous program on Unix for preventing the pixels of your monitor from burning in, providing pretty animations and providing password protection. However, the default lock window used for password protection is bloody ugly.
The author of XScreenSaver has an explanation on why toolkits like GTK and QT are not used for the lock window and Id agree with his points. However, why not have a built-in theme that is secure?
So what Im providing here is a framework for creating built-in themes. (Note that themes are not run time changeable - only one can be included at any time.) The default theme is shown the above screenshot and other themes are available in the themes page. Creating a new theme requires some graphical talent (of which I have none) for the frame and logo and some programming experience if you wish to adjust the interior. Please feel free to submit themes and I will include them on the theme page.z

glsnake project is a hardware accelerated executive stress toy.
glsnake is an OpenGL stress toy, based on Rubiks snake.
One can use this toy to create extra models for the glsnake XScreenSaver hack.
It also includes a large collection of predefined snake models.
Here are the CONTROLS of "glsnake":
- Use the right mouse button to drag the object to a new orientation.
- i will toggle interactive mode.
- Once in interactive mode, use the cursor keys to select a joint and rotate it. The home key resets to the straight snake.
- q will quit.
- s will toggle sane normals against some weird normals.
- w will toggle wireframe mode.
- e and E change the explode distance.
- + and - change the speed of rotation.

Klax is an i486 GNU/Linux Live-CD, very similar to Slax because its created with the same Linux Live scripts.
The version described here contains KDE 3.5 Alpha.
It should be good enough to give you an impression of KDE 3.5 development, to verify if bugs still exist or discover new ones and to make screenshots.

- all bells & whistles KDE 3.4 can make use of (like composite extension, DBUS/HAL, speech systems, xscreensaver, ZeroConf)
Usage:
Boot from the burned CD and type "klax gui" at the boot prompt.
Or login at console prompt as "guest" with password "guest" and run "startx" to start the X-server.
"netconfig" configures the network. Entering "xconf" will configure the X-server for higher screen resolution.
