XMLTV 0.5.45

XMLTV 0.5.45

XMLTV is a TV guide kicker applet for KDE that uses XMLTV files. more>>
XMLTV is a set of utilities to manage your TV viewing. They work with TV listings stored in the XMLTV format, which is based on XML.
The idea of XMLTV is to separate out the backend (getting the listings) from the frontend (displaying them for the user), and to implement useful operations like picking out your favourite programmes as filters that read and write XML documents.
At present there are backends grabbing TV listings for Canada, the USA, Britain and Ireland, Germany, Austria, Finland, Spain, the Netherlands, Hungary, Denmark, Japan, Sweden, France, Norway, and Romania.
There are filters to sort the listings by date, to remove shows that have already been broadcast, and a couple of programmes to organize your viewing by storing preferences of what shows you watch. There are a couple of backends to produce printed output.
Enhancements:
- This release includes new grabbers for Croatia and Switzerland and miscellaneous updates to many different grabbers, including a fix for the tv_grab_na_dd startime problem.

xmltv2html 0.7.0

xmltv2html 0.7.0

xmltv2html project is a Ruby script that generates a HTML page from the output of XMLTV. more>>
xmltv2html project is a Ruby script that generates a HTML page from the output of XMLTV.

The generated HTML page will have the channels listed on the vertical axis and the shows times on the horizontal axis. The shows information is displayed via DHTML popups. Virtually every aspect of the HTML page can be customized via the configuration file and CSS file.

VALID XMLTV

It is very important to have a valid xmltv file prior to using xmltv2html.
The xmltv distribution has two programs that are vital:
tv_sort will sort the listings by date and add stop times (see man tv_sort)
tv_grep will filter programmes and shows (see man tv_grep).

GLTV 0.2

GLTV 0.2

GLTV is a tv viewing application written using OpenGL and SDL. more>>
GLTV is a tv viewing application written using OpenGL and SDL. It is designed to have an easy method of adding good looking on screen display (OSD) elements. Eventually i plan on adding support for XMLTV tv listings, so you can see whats on currently, and browse the tv listings from within the program, but i am currently just adding support for the basics, and trying to make the general look of the OSD nice. It uses alpha blending and double buffered reads, so you probably have to have a decent video card and cpu to run it well (it takes 50% of my tbird 1.2ghz machine (but only 1-2% of my 1.5gb of ram). it also uses a lot of textures (the video is a texture mapped onto a quad) so you might need to have a fair amount of video memory (i have a GeForce 2 gts with 32mb of ram, and it runs at a good speed).

It requires: a video4linux (1) capture card, OpenGL, Freetype 2, SDL and XMLwrapp. Theoretically, any v4l capture card should work, but i am using a bttv based one (Hauppauge, bt878), so it might not work too well with other cards, or cards using other drivers. If you are using another card and have success or problems with it, let me know so I can fix them if there is a problem (or add them to a list of known supported drivers).

Note: you must have a file called .gltvrc in your home directory. For an example with the default options, look at gltvrc.default in the source directory.

xmltvdb 3

xmltvdb 3

xmltvdb is a fairly simplistic tv listings database/viewer for xmltv listings. more>>
xmltvdb is a fairly simplistic tv listings database/viewer for xmltv listings. It uses PostgreSQL and mod_perl.

Creating the Database

First off, youll want to create your database. The schema.sql file contains the basics youll need. The mkschema.sh will replace the placeholder schema name within schema.sql with the value you pass it as an argument, and spit the result out to stdout. So, you might do something like:

./mkschema.sh xmltv | psql database xmltvuser

And assuming the xmltvuser has create schema privileges (important!) it should create everything. If you want separate users for schema ownership versus reading/writing data, youll have to setup the grants yourself. The pgadmin3 tool makes doing such mass grants easy.

PyTVGrab is an XMLTV library and tv_grabbers written in Python. more>>
PyTVGrab is an XMLTV library and tv_grabbers written in Python.

Download the library and the grabber u want to use. Extract them using the standard "tar xfvz package-name.tar.gz". Then install the library using "python setup.py install", and run the same command for the grabber itself.

Now u have the grabber and the needed library installed. You can now start the grabber by using the "tv_grab_XX_XXX" command (for example "tv_grab_be_tvb"). To get further usage information run your grabber with --help. The usage is compatible with any perl XMLTV scripts.

MythTV 0.20

MythTV 0.20

MythTV is a homebrew PVR project. more>>
MythTV project is a suite of programs that allow you to build the mythical home media convergence box on your own using Open Source software and operating systems.
MythTV is a project aiming to create a homebrew set-top box. The end goal is to have a nice interface for watching TV, recording shows, listening to music, etc., all displayed on a TV and controlled by a remote.
Main features:
- Basic live-tv functionality. Pause/Fast Forward/Rewind "live" TV.
- Support for multiple tuner cards and multiple simultaneous recordings.
- Distributed architecture allowing multiple recording machines and multiple playback machines on the same network, completely transparent to the user.
- Compresses video in software using rtjpeg (from Nuppelvideo) or mpeg4 (from libavcodec). Full support for Hardware MPEG-2 encoder cards (Hauppauge PVR-250 / PVR-350). Preliminary support for DVB cards and the new pcHDTV tuner card.
- Support for the (very nice looking) hardware MPEG-2 decoder and TV out present on the Hauppauge PVR-350.
- Completely automatic commercial detection/skipping
- Grabs program information using xmltv.
- A fully themeable menu to tie it all together.
The television portion allows you to do the following:
- You may pause, fast-forward and rewind live Television.
- You may install multiple video capture cards to record more than one program at a time.
- You can have multiple servers, each with multiple capture cards in them. All servers are centrally managed and all programs are scheduled by the Master backend.
- You can have multiple clients (called "frontends" in MythTV parlance), each with a common view of all available programs. Any client can watch any program that was recorded by any of the servers. Clients can be diskless and controlled entirely by a remote control.
- You may use any combination of standard analog capture card, MPEG-2, MJPEG, DVB or HDTV capture devices. With appropriate hardware, MythTV can control set top boxes, often found in digital cable and satellite TV systems.
- Program Guide Data in North America is downloaded from Zap2It.com, a subsidiary of Tribune Media Services. This free service is called DataDirect, and provides MythTV almost two weeks of scheduling information. Program Guide Data in other countries is obtained using XMLTV. MythTV uses this information to create a schedule that maximizes the number of programs that can be recorded if you dont have enough tuners.
Other modules in MythTV include:
- MythGallery, a picture-viewing application
- MythVideo, a media-viewer for content not created within MythTV
- MythDVD, a DVD viewer / ripper
- MythMusic, a music playing / ripping application which supports MP3 and FLAC
- MythGame
- MythWeather
- MythNews, a RSS news grabber
- MythBrowser, a web browser
- MythWeb, which allows you to control your MythTV system using a web browser. With MythWeb, you can schedule recordings, delete files, change keybindings and more. With proper security, you may even schedule a program over the Internet and have it immediately acted on by the scheduler.
- MythPhone, phone and videophone using SIP.

dvbd 0.7.7

dvbd 0.7.7

The idea behind dvbd is to make maximum use of your DVB card by allowing multiple channels on the same frequency to be tuned. more>>
The idea behind dvbd is to make maximum use of your DVB card by allowing multiple channels on the same frequency to be tuned. It is split into a daemon (dvbd) and client programs (dvbcat, dvbsched, dvblist). It is possible to associate a priority with a connection to the daemon, so that (depending on the given priority) the tuner can be made available by dropping connections of inferior priority.

A web frontend to dvbsched, called dvbdguide, is included to facilitate the scheduling of dvbd recording activities. Please note this requires an XMLTV datafeed. Check out a captured dvbdguide page.

The daemon has a configuration file which by default is /etc/dvbd/config. The format of the file is lines of key=value. Line comments can be begun with #.

The following configuration options are available:

socket
the (unix) socket to listen on. Default is /var/run/dvbd/dvbd.socket
pid
the pid file to write to once it has become a daemon. Default is /var/run/dvbd/dvbd.pid
log
the log file to write to. Default is /var/log/dvbd.log
schedule
the schedule file to write to. Default is /var/spool/dvbd/schedule
debug
the debug level (default is 0) If a higher debug level is set, dvbd will not go into the background.
numcards
the number of DVB cards your system supports
card0
the first DVB card. The format of this field is type:frontend:channels Where

type may be one of dvb-t, dvb-s or dvb-t.
frontend is the path to the frontend (tuner) for the card
channels is the path to the tzap/szap/czap format channels.conf file for the card.

If no cards are specified, a default of one dvb-t card is assumed with channels file /etc/tzap.channels.conf and frontend /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0

At the moment there are three client programs. dvbcat, dvblist and dvbsched. dvbcat can be used to extract a stream from the dvbd for live TV.

For example:

$ dvbcat dvb-t "BBC ONE" | mplayer -

dvbsched is used to schedule a recording. Note that an output file must be specified whose containing directory must be owned by the user issuing the request. The directory must also be writable by the dvbd program.

The time format is in at(1) format. See ats manpage for more information about it.

For example:

mkdir /tmp/recordings
dvbsched dvb-t "ITV 2" 19.20 32 /tmp/recordings/itv2.mpg

If there is a clash the program will ask you if you want to cancel your job.

dvblist shows the channels available to tune at the given priority (default is 10).

For example:

dvblist dvb-t

If there are some existing connections the list of channels may be shorter than the full list.

QtTV is a TV Guide. It reads from an XMLTV formatted document to retrieve listings, then allows output sorted by time, per channel or in a grid of time vs channel.

For now, the package requires the XMLTV listings to be in "/root/Documents/tv.xml" if you are installing on the zaurus. Windows or linux compilations allow you to choose a file.

Be aware that this software is slow to load and may be buggy.

gshowtv 1.2.1

gshowtv 1.2.1

GShow TV is a TV program schedule viewer and a Personal Video Recorder GUI. more>>
GShow TV is a TV program schedule viewer and a Personal Video Recorder GUI. The basic purpose of GShow TV is to provide a nice GUI for viewing tv program schedule information and for recording the programs.

GShow TV doesnt itself do the recording of the selected programs, rather it uses any PVR solution that exists. GShow TV is globally usable as it uses XMLTV to access the program schedules, and xmltv has support for multitude of countries. (mid 2004 support for Canada, the USA, the UK, Germany, Austria, Finland, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Hungary, Denmark, Japan, Sweden, France, Norway, Portugal and Romania)

The interface between the recording software and the GUI is two trivial shell scripts, which are of course modifiable by the user as they see fit. The reason why this separation is simple: On linux almost everybody who has a TV card on their computer uses a different recording solution.

The multitude of home made recording systems is countless. However, most home made systems dont include a nice GUI and hence GShow TV. GShow TV uses XMLTV for its tv listing. GShow TV can be used as a TV Guide without its recording functionality.

TVBrowser 2.53

TVBrowser 2.53

TV-Browser is a TV guide that is easily extensible using plugins. more>>
TV-Browser is a TV guide that is easily extensible using plugins. TVBrowser is designed to look like a paper based TV guide. Included are over 80 German language channels.
At the moment, it only loads data in its own binary format, but its possible to write a plugin that loads XMLTV data.
The tv data are retrieved from multiple sources and can be downloaded from our servers after having been automatically processed.
The whole project - both the client and the server part - is distributed under the GNU GPL.
Currently, we offer only channels in german language but we are highly motivated to extend TV-Browser for other countries.
Enhancements:
- Minor bugfixes.

furious_tv 1.4

furious_tv 1.4

furious_tv is a set of tools to take XMLTV TV listings and enable a UNIX system to automatically record programs of a TV card. more>>
furious_tv is a set of tools to take XMLTV TV listings and enable a UNIX system to automatically record programs off of a TV card. It is written in C and uses a SAX parser for maximum speed and efficiency.
Enhancements:
- This version of furious_tv fixes a few miscellaneous bugs in the code and also adds support for non-US TV listings. Apparently in countries other than the US, the channel numbers vary a great deal (even in small areas), so non-US users needed a way to change channel numbers and have those changes persist when new listings were loaded into the database.
- Version 1.4 adds an option to ftv_listings ("-r") that instructs the parser to use the channel numbers in the listings to override the channel numbers in the database. This is really only a good idea if the listings probably have the correct channel numbers (e.g. US listings obtained using XMLTVs tv_grab_na grabber).
- One last point to keep in mind is that the channel numbers are preserved by looking at the channel names, so the channel names should not be changed manually because then ftv_listings will not recognize the channel as already in the database.
