Gnome Workstation Command Center 0.9.8
GWCC allows users to execute network utilities (ping, nslookup, traceroute). more>>
Welcome to GWCC.This program is designed to provide an easy to use interface to your Unix system. I dont know about you, but perform the same operations over-and-over day-after-day, and the command line provided via a terminal window ceases to be very useful once you want to start doing something with the information - like saving or printing it.
In addition to having to know all the flags for all the commands you want to use, you also have to scroll up-and-down the terminal window to retrace your steps and to cut-and-paste (what was that IP address again?).
So, i hope you will find my GTK/GNOME-based point-and-click application of some use in your daily computing activities. Please feel free to write to me with any suggestions you may have (see Contacting The Author below).
Main features:
- Complete preferences system (no need to edit any config files, or know flags)
- GNOME support (session management, dialogs, menus, etc.)
- LibGLADE support
- Saving and Printing of all output!
- Highly configurable command flags and program behaviour.

OpenKiosk 2.0.6
OpenKiosk is a multi-platform kiosk management software. more>>
Openkiosk aims to be one of the best kiosk software available in the open-souce community. The following prototype screenshots of the OpenKiosk client reflects its evolution towards the goal of acheiving simplicity and elegance in kiosk terminals.
OpenKiosk, is a system made up of a collection of programs that work together in a local network of inter-connected computers. It is a centralized management software for kiosks. It assumes that the resources are shared and centralized as well, including the Internet connection. This implies that the shared Internet connection to the outside world is assumed to be always on at some point within the local network, perhaps a NAT server. It is up to the client program to automatically limit customers individually from accessing the Internet.
When a customer walks in and uses a kiosk or a workstation, the client program obtains his/her login/user account information. It then sends this login information to the server, which in turn, verifies this data and if valid, returns the access rights and duration of use for the customer back to the client program.
The client program at this point, handles the restrictions transparently including preventing running new programs and making it appear that the Internet connection is down if the time limit is reached or if the administrator manually stopped a customer from continuing to use a kiosk/workstation.
OpenKiosk is primarily designed with the multi-user network in mind. From a library containing 20 public browsing terminals to a large internet cafe or convention center containing hundreds to thousands of kiosks or workstations, OpenKiosk is built with components that are designed to scale up. It is not meant to be used on a single stand-alone computer
The Openkiosk system is basically composed of two parts. The first program is called NodeView. It acts as the OpenKiosk central server containing the client information database. It is responsible for administering all the clients on the network either automatically or manually. Monitoring and controlling the workstations can be done locally via the graphical user interfaces or remotely from a Java Applet in a browser.
The second part is simply called "The Client". It is the actual program that sits between the customer and the operating system interface on the workstations. It is the software which physically limits the users access to the Internet, network resources, the local programs on the workstation itself.
For automatic usage, it can take in membership card login. It is also possible to interface to much more advanced hardware readers such as smart card readers. The client is also capable of simple but important tasks such as remote shutdown, instant messaging, file updates and much more.
Presently, there are two versions of clients. The X11 Linux/Unix version, which is an applet that sits on top of the KDE panel (requires at least KDE 3.X) and the Windows version (Windows 95,98,NT,2000,XP).

Free Help Desk 1.08a
Help desk software is vital to the success of your help desk and customer support staff. more>>
The design of this software comes from many years of help desk experience working in a help desk environment. All the basic tools for running a successful help desk are included in this help desk software package.
Help desk software should be used in any organization whether its a large corporation or a small startup company. Why should my company implement a helpdesk software solution? Some of the benefits of helpdesk software are improved customer service, faster response times and lower information technology costs. Lets outline these three areas in greater detail.
When a user contacts the computer support professional in your organization, what steps are taken? Does it depend on who answered the phone? Do the immediately drop any task and visit your desk? Do they jot your information down on a note pad? Do they attempt to resolve the issue on the phone at great length? What criteria merits the call be moved to another member of the IT staff, or merits a call the software vendor?
All these questions can be answered in some way within the use of help desk software. Helpdesk software forces your IT staff to handle help desk calls in a structured manner that can be counted on each time. When a helpdesk call is received, it should be immediately be entered into the help desk software database, even if it is easily answered.
At this point there is now a record of the call, and this allows other IT staff to view the contents of the problem and makes it a simple task for other IT staff members to offer solutions. This also prevents the call from being lost in the shuffle if staff is busy when the call is received. Your general staff will have much more confidence that when they place that call to your help desk staff, their call will be handled in a structured method to ensure their satisfaction.
If they can continue to work, they will not feel the need to keep calling or checking with IT staff on the progress, or worry that their call will not be answered in a reasonable amount of time. This allows them to focus on their tasks, and not be concerned with the status of their call.
Many help desk software solutions offer a self-help method, allowing the staff members in your company to submit a helpdesk request directly into the help desk system. (granted their computer is functioning enough for this) This feature greatly streamlines the process, and can increase response time for all users. Help desk support staff will not be interrupted by the phone call and have to stop working on another issue to record the call information.
In fact, it should be encouraged by the IT staff to submit all request possible with this method. When a request is entered into the system, it allows any available support personnel to respond to the request. It also allows support personnel to diversify calls, so if a calls is shown to be about a particular problem that a staff member has greater expertise with, that staff member will likely be able to solve the problem much quicker. Once each calls is resolved, the solution will then become available for future reference.
This is one of the greatest benefits an organization will receive from using a help desk system. This allows newer support staff to be able to answer many questions by simply searching the database for other calls. Also prevent 2 support staff from having to research for the same solution, this benefits in much faster response time for the end user.
Everything mentioned above will contribute to the overall quality of service in your organization, happier staff and faster response time will mean lower costs and higher productivity for your organization.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a bug found in the main form that caused some performance problems in certain system configurations.

Dolda Connect 0.4
Dolda Connect is a modular P2P filesharing client built around the Direct Connect model. more>>
It runs in client/server mode with a well defined protocol, allowing extensibility, flexibility, and multiple detachable user interfaces. Dolda Connect also has an optional multi-user mode.
For the average user, this yields two primary advantages:
- The daemon can be made to run on another computer, which can be on all the time (a server, if you will), while the user interface can run on the users workstation. That way, the user can turn off his workstation at night, while the server will continue all transfers in progress during that time.
- A user can control his daemon from another location, such as from work, school, a friend, etc.
This architecture also has many other advantages in store for the more advanced users; since the user interface communicates with the daemon using a well-defined protocol, other user interfaces can be written, such as an automatic downloader, a chatbot, etc. It is also designed for secure multiuser operation.
Enhancements:
- A GUI configurator tool was added.
- Portability issues were fixed so that it works on AMD64 now.
- The documentation was improved.
- The usual slew of minor bugs were fixed.
