Paradise 2000 represents my bend of the Paradise Netrek client. Paradise 2000 Netrek Client is not a fork, because that would imply parallel development, but no one else has done anything with the client since about five years ago.
Paradise 2000 is in fact one of the most, if not the most, actively developed Netrek clients available today. It is for Linux (and FreeBSD) only, and is not open source*. Dont let the Paradise name fool you, it works just fine on standard bronco servers. Nobody has even played a game of Paradise Netrek for years!
The biggest new feature of the client, not found in any other, is the sound system. While the old Paradise client, Ted Turner, COW, and COW ports (Netrek1999,2000) have a simple sound effect system, its crap. Especially the one used by COW. The Paradise/Ted Turner one is better, and is partially written by me, though you wouldnt know that*.
The Paradise 2000 sound system has psychoacoustic stereo effects that place sounds based on where they happen. If someone on the left blows up, you can tell they are on the left just from the sound. The newest version of Paradise-2000 has a sound system with speech output using IBMs ViaVoice TTS. If a teammate sends a carrying message, the client will actually say something like, "F one carrying five to org."
Main features:
- See weapons on galactic map
- Auto-rotate galaxy to put playing teams on left side
- Dashboard timer to show repair or refit time remaining
- See the army count for the planet your are orbiting
- Remap your keys via the help window. Just push the key you want over the name of the function you want to assign to it.
- Use the same key for both bombing armies and picking armies. The client can tell by context with one would make sense.
- You can set configuration options to different values for different server types.
- Double buffering support for graphics. When turned on, eliminates flicker. Very useful for LCD monitors.
- Extensive support for enhanced observer mode:
- See all players tractors and pressors while observing.
- You can lock onto a cloaked player and observe them.
- All your ship stats will reflect the player you are observing. Even torps out, kills, and army capacity.
- Your ship and player letter dont get drawn on top of the player you are observings ship and letter.
- Observers wont have stats shown in your player list, cluttering it up unnecessarily..
- Stereo sound effects!
- Highly configurable speech synthesis!
- Option to omit the team letter of ships on the galactic. Just show 0 instead of F0, since you can tell the team by the color of the letter.
- Game score on hockey servers calculated and put on the galactic for easy reference.
- Cool looking streaking background stars when transwarping on Bronco servers.
- Flags on the dashboard gauges indicating the fuel/shields/hull needed to refit or transwarp.
- Single key transwarp on Bronco servers. Push - to automatically lock onto your base and warp to it!
- 19FLAGS protocol enhancement. Reduces messed up flags from packetloss. Hockey players, this will eliminate stuck tractors and pressors.
- Works with WindowMaker. Window manager delete buttons work.
- Hockey bug fix, puck doesnt cloak at warp 15 or 31.
- Support for short packets 2. Reduces bandwidth and improves playability with packetloss.
- Supports SBHOURS feature, see how many base hours someone has.

- Support for wheel mice. The wheel will scroll the message windows, and can be bound to actions like other mouse buttons.
- Re-enter the game after dying by pushing the spacebar, instead of clicking on the right team window. Faster and prevents selecting the wrong team on accident in 4v4 hockey games.
- 32 position ship bitmaps. Your ship rotations will look smoother.
- Small red circle around ship shows det radius.

Olive is (yet another) GNU/Linux Live distribution. more>>
Olive is (yet another) GNU/Linux Live distribution. Olive LiveCD distirbution offers quite a good deal of new technologies, hardly witnessed ever before, as well as some of the more common pieces of software. Its size is approx. 110MiB, yet it allows a lot of software to be used.
Olives whole point is to display how easy to use Linux may be, yet without losing any of the features required for heavy-duty work. Its also supposed to show various unusual new technologies, not widely known or accepted.
Please note that Olive was, partially, built as graduation work at SPSST Panska. Once presented, a release built specifically for school will be available upon personal request.
Main features:
Media
Olive features MPlayer for playing of your favourite movies. It plays most MPEG, VOB, AVI, OGG/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, FLI, RM, NuppelVideo, Matroska files. You can also watch Theora, MPEG4 (DivX/XviD), Real Media, DVD, VideoCD, SVCD movies. MPlayer also supports various filters for better experience. Mencoder is bundled with MPlayer and it allows you to encode movies into virtually any of the formats mentioned above.
Although you can use MPlayer to play your music, theres also an application that was written just for that: Audacious. Audacious is a fork of Beep Media Player (now discontinued), which is in turn fork of the very famous XMMS. It supports various audio formats, including MPEG layer 1, 2, and 3, Ogg Vorbis, Ogg FLAC, Musepack, WAV files and Windows Media, as well as many sequenced formats including MIDI, and a host of different module formats. In addition, Audacious uses Winamp-like skins (and supports Winamp "classic" skins), to provide a familiar and friendly user interface.
You can of course view photos and pictures using GQview, an intuitive image browser. It can generate thumbnails of your pictures, its capable of reading EXIF metadata, has advanced image search function and much more.
Internet
The Internet is part of everyday life for all of us; was it not for the Internet, you wouldnt be able to read this webpage. Olive features Mozilla Firefox web browser, currently the most common web browser used on Linux. For browsing in console, ELinks is a must-have. There is also Sylpheed e-mail client, small, fast and incredibly useful.
These days, Instant Messaging is a common part of our lives. Therefore, Olive sports GAIM2 (beta2) multi-protocol instant messaging client, which is compatibile with protocols such as ICQ, MSN Messenger,Yahoo!, IRC, Jabber or Gadu-Gadu. There is also a client dedicated solely to Internet Relay Chat (IRC), which is X-Chat. As usually, there are console alternatives, which would be CenterICQ and irssi.
You can use Kismet to look for Wi-Fi hotspots. Basic utilities such as telnet or ssh client and server (Dropbear, used in various embedded systems) are not missing as well.
General work
You can perform some elementary office work in Olive as well. Although its obvious that you wont be doing most of your office work on Olive, its quite reasonable to believe it can come in handy. Therefore, Olive has AbiWord word processor to allow you to read and write documents, in various languages, in various characters, without any problem.
AbiWord can also handle various document formats, which includes Microsoft Word or WordPerfect documents. You can also export your documents into HTML for further processing or publication. You can also read Adobe PDF format using Evince, a Gnome/GTK2 document viewer whose PDF backend is based on the Poppler library, which is based on the well-known XPDF. Utilities that allow you export of PDF documents into eg. HTML are also included.
System control
Considering the differences in approach to configuration in various distributions, it may be often hard to configure several things at yet another distribution, such as the X server or preferences of software alternatives. Therefore, Olive features a trivial control panel, allowing any application to be merged in as a new panel. Although it still misses few more desired panels (most notable for network configuration), it already is quite useful for every day usage.
Eye candy
Good-looking environment always helps users to better orientate on the workplace, as well as consider the time they spend with the system more enjoyable. Transparency can be achieved using XComposite extension and xcompmgr + transset.
Though XGL and AIGLX were considered, the decision was made not to use them for their lack of testing and for the demand for support of as many platforms as possible. Please note that even XComposite may have its own issues with other software, most notably Enlightenment and MPlayer, and for this reason xcompmgr is not run by default.
Lightweight
If you consider the above features way too much for you and strive for something lighter, then you can use the FluxBox window manager. FluxBox was finetuned to look and feel as much as Enlightenment as possible, making the transition simple. There are also lightweight versions of some of the software, as mentioned above, such as irssi, CenterICQ or ELinks.
Enhancements:
- A significant bug was found in v0.1, causing ramdisk for people who have 1GiB of RAM or more broken. Please, upgrade to 0.2.

This module offers some control over Perls insidious "leading-zero-means-octal" notation.
INTERFACE
If the module is loaded via a no:
no Leading::Zeros;
then any subsequent attempt to use an integer constant with a leading zero, causes an exception to be thrown. The intention is to prevent you from doing so by accident.
If the module is loaded via a use, like so:
use Leading::Zeros;
then it silently pretends that any octal value (say, 042) was really a decimal value (i.e. 42).
If the module is loaded with the special -warning flag:
use Leading::Zeros -warning;
then octal numbers are treated as usual (i.e. as octals), but a warning is issued. See below.

Page Title Eraser is a Firefox extension which provides more privacy at your workplace by hiding the title and icon of a selected tab.
I always open several tabs in a Firefox window, but I would not like other people see some of tabs labels. So I wrote the PTE extension which helps me to have such feature. I hope that it can be useful for office people.
The Page Title Eraser adds menu item to the page context menu and "Tools" menu items. "Right-click" menu includes a "Hide title" menu item now. Using this item you can hide/show tab and window titles and tab icon. Each tab has its independent instance of this item.
Since version 0.3.0 you can hide or show all tabs labels using "Hide all titles" menu item. Using the "Options" window you can tell PTE to hide/show the icons of tabs as well as the titles of tabs (see screenshots).
Toolbar button and hot key combination (Ctrl + Shift + H) are also available.

Plomino is a ZOPE/Plone product that allows you to build business applications in a Lotus Domino-like way.
Using Plone-specific screens (nothing is done through the ZMI), users can design databases to handle documents with multiple forms and views.
Plomino supports user-defined actions, access control lists, a WYSIWYG form edition, an index, events, computed fields, and user roles.
With Lotus Domino, a user can easily design databases able to handle very different business needs (knwoledge management, project management, collaborative workplaces, etc.).
What is missing in Plone/ZOPE to handle that ? Mainly the following points:
- be able to create new structured content types, more specific than the core CMF types
- be able to build differents views to list the same contents in different ways
- be able to display content through dynamic forms
That is what Plomino aims to do.
Plomino is an opensource solution, distributed under ZPL (ZOPE Public License).

It handles multiple media sets with automatic media preparation and rotation, configurable what-to-backup, global per-host exclusion patterns, and user settable dont-back-this-up metafiles.
dobackup.pl goal is zero-maintenance, nothing to do except change the media when told (if that, even!)

Each unit of media used for dobackup must be uniquely identifiable. To this end, dobackup looks for a file named "MEDIAUNIT= " on the disk (in the mount-point really) before starting the backup. The reasons are two-fold: 1) to ensure that a media unit is really intended for backups, so you dont wipe out something important by accident, and 2) to verify that proper rotation of media units has occurred.
To prepare each unit, format and mount it as usual, then:

Eleven is a programming language for creating robust, scalable web applications quickly and easily.
It offers a 20x programmer productivity increase over traditional server programming languages like ASP, PHP, and JSP by automating state management and taking control of the applications look and feel.
From high-level source code with a simple, C-like syntax, the compiler generates complete, ready-to-run implementations in PHP or mod_perl. Applications generated by Eleven maintain their state in a relational database and are inherently fault-tolerant, secure, and scalable.
Most interactive web applications today are primitive. Of course there are shining exceptions such as Amazon.com, TurboTax, and others. But by and large, most web applications are crudely designed and not especially reliable. Have you ever entered data into a web application, then lost it due to a browser crash? Have you ever gotten part way through an e-commerce transaction, then had the session go into never-never land while waiting for your credit card to be validated? Have you ever reloaded a web page and found that you just duplicated a transaction by accident? Web applications are server based, so in theory they ought to be as reliable as traditional mainframe applications. But they arent.
The problem is that there are two ways of creating web applications. Theres the expensive way, in which massive amounts of engineering are dedicated to making the sites reliable and scalable. These applications tend to keep most of their state in server-side databases, which run in controlled environments and are carefully managed. If your browser crashes during a session, you can usually log in from another computer and pick up where you left off.
Then theres the cheap way (often seen in corporate intranets and extranets). These tend to keep their state on the client (in hidden form fields or HTTP cookies), in the web servers memory, or in the web servers filesystem. These applications tend to be fragile. They dont handle system failures well, and get confused easily if the user presses the back button, restarts the web browser, etc.
The Eleven project solves this problem by making it quick and easy to create robust, scalable, database-backed web applications. Applications are expressed in a high-level language with a syntax similar to C and a conceptual structure similar to BASIC. Here is a simple example.

The point is that the Eleven compiler takes over the job of state management. The programmer doesnt need to worry about how the variables first and last are passed from one display to the next, how to represent the to-do list in the relational database, how to deal with the back button, how to enable a session to be seamlessly resumed if the computer crashes, and so on. All of those problems are taken care of automatically.
Whats more, those benefits are achieved without any special runtime support. The Eleven compiler translates source code into complete PHP or mod_perl programs that run under the Apache web server. The only runtime support needed is a standard installation of Apache with PHP or mod_perl, and a relational database such as MySQL for the back end. Furthermore, the generated code is fairly readable, and can be inspected before uploading to the web site. This is a great benefit for security-minded system administrators who are wary of installing yet another "framework" onto their production machines.
All applications generated by Eleven automatically save their state to the relational database after every user action. The web browser and web servers are stateless. Thus, the applications have three important characteristics:
1. They are bulletproof, meaning that the applications are resilient to failures of any runtime component. Sessions cannot be derailed by browser crashes, web server crashes, bookmarking or tampering with URLs, etc. as long as the integrity of the relational database is maintained.
2. They are secure, meaning that all application data is safely kept private. It is stored in the database, never in hidden form fields or HTTP cookies where it is vulnerable.
