Gentoox Home 5.0

Gentoox Home 5.0

Gentoox is an adaptation of the popular Linux distribution called Gentoo. more>>
Gentoox Linux is an adaptation of the popular source based Linux distribution called Gentoo. Gentoox Home retains all the features of the original (portage, sysvinit etc...) but has a patch system created from the ground up, by myself, which is specifically designed for Gentoox.

"Magic" (as I have labelled it) allows users to install new software, upgrade their kernel and fix bugs. To learn more about magic, run "magic usage" once you have installed Gentoox.

Gentoox runs along side games - you get 3 choices during installation: E, F and Native. Both E and F create a loopback filesystem meaning that none of your drives are formatted during installation (except for cache partitions). If you choose "Native", then your F: partition is formatted to ReiserFS (making it inaccessible to Xbox applications).

Gentoox can be loaded via a .xbe file, or from a Cromwell based BIOS (which can be flashed to your modchip during installation). When using E or F installations, you are totally risk free - if you dont like Gentoox, simply delete all the files it installs (about 7 in total) and its gone.

There are three versions of Gentoox: Pro Edition, Home Edition and Media Center Edition. All three are 100% free and opensource, the difference between Home and Pro is that the Home Edition has many software packages preinstalled and preconfigured for instant usablity straight out of the box where as Pro doesnt even have a graphical user interface let alone any "useful" applications.

Pro is a bare minimum installation for booting the system, the entire customisation of the OS is left in the users hands with Pro. Media Center edition is more of a "Plugin" than a separate distribution. It allows you to have a Media Center along with Gentoox Home or Pro.

RitmarkFS FTP 0.1

RitmarkFS FTP 0.1

RitmarkFS is an open source filesystem storage engine for MySQL server. more>>
RitmarkFS is an open source filesystem storage engine for MySQL server. Using this engine you can work with filesystem on the server with SQL queries and MySQL server interface.RitmarkFS is also possible to access raw file contents.

RitmarkFS allows you to access common file attributes such as name, extension, path, size.

To start using RitmarkFS storage engine you have to create a special table.

Table name specifies filesystem mount point. I.e all data under that mount point will be accessible by the specified table name. In the examples above these were c:ritmarktest and /home/your_home_dir respectively. For example if you run a query like

SELECT * FROM `c$$ritmarktest`;

the query result will contain records corresponding to all files under c:ritmarktest recursively.

File::Save::Home is a Perl module to place file safely under user home directory.

file => file_to_be_checked,

$tmpdir = make_subhome_temp_directory(
"pseudohome/directory", # optional argument version
);

In the course of deploying an application on another users system, you sometimes need to place a file in or underneath that users home directory. Can you do so safely?

This Perl extension provides several functions which try to determine whether you can, indeed, safely create directories and files underneath a users home directory. Among other things, if you are placing a file in such a location only temporarily -- say, for testing purposes -- you can temporarily hide any already existing file with the same name and restore it to its original name and timestamps when you are done.

Ksetiwatch 3.0.1

Ksetiwatch 3.0.1

Ksetiwatch is a SETI@home monitor and work unit manager. more>>
Ksetiwatch is a monitoring tool for the Seti@home distributed computing project, which searches for signals of extraterrestrial life. It displays the state of the Seti@home client(s) running on your computer or in your local network, and logs/manages completed work units and interesting signals.

In addition, Ksetiwatch features a skymap that displays all work units processed, a graphical display of scientific data (gaussians, pulses, and triplets), a dock icon with detailed status information about a client, the option to start/stop the SETI@home clients, and much more.

SetiContainer is a C++ class that allows convenient access to all the information in the state files of a SETI@home client. It periodically examines these files and updates its own data members accordingly.

Other programs can use this class to extract information about the progress of the client, the signals found, or the work unit being processed. Additional functions offer more advanced info (like the amount of TeraFlops in a work unit, estimated time of completion, etc.). The SetiContainer class is based on the Qt toolkit, and extensively uses Qts Signal/Slot .

Python Music Daemon 0.3

Python Music Daemon 0.3

Python Music Daemon is yet another jukebox written in Python. more>>
PyMusicD is yet another jukebox daemon written in python. It was born out of my frustration with the current mp3 jukeboxes, mostly the lack of features that I want. Ive also been playing with python quite a lot lately, and this is my first attempt at a large project in python.
The player is being written to satisfy my own requirements for a car mp3 player, although theres no reason you couldnt use this for a home mp3 player, or work mp3 player.
It assumes that your network users are (mostly) benign, and doesnt take a lot of precautions against malicious users who want to screw with your mp3s. Take appropriate measures to only allow trusted users to play with it, at least until I secure it a bit better.
Its primary purpose is to run in the background, and play mp3s whenever they are in the playlist.
Usage
Unpack this to its own directory. Edit the pymusicd.conf file to your liking. Run python PyMusicD, then run python pymusic to play around with it. The client operates very similarly to most shells, and includes tab completion for commands (but not arguments... yet.)
If you wish to install this to the system, you may do so by running python setup.py install. This will install the server binary in the default place for your platform (according to distutils.) You may then edit the config file (/etc/pymusicd.conf by default) and run the server by running PyMusicD. The cli client will be named pymusic.
This software is currently in development. It is not ready for end users yet. You should have familiarity with scripting in python before you set about to use this software. That being said, if you find bugs that arent listed in TODO, and/or have problems with the software that arent listed in TODO, email me (zwhite@darkstar.frop.org) and Ill see what I can do to help you. Code patches/suggestions are always welcome.
This is known to work on my Slackware 9.0 machine using the Python 2.2.2 package that came with it. I have also tested it on my Mac OSX 10.2.8 machine with Python 2.2. I have no reason to believe that it wont work on any machine with a Python 2.x interpreter and
either mpg123 or mpg321. Your mileage may vary. If it doesnt work on your platform, please let me know. My goal is to have this work on any platform that python runs on.
Enhancements:
- Fixed a bug when adding an entire directory with %2A instead of *
- Added a debug command to get server state, currently only playstatus is reported, will add more as needed.
- Changed the way the stop command works to eliminate a bug.
- Check to make sure a file exists before we add it to the playlist.
- We no longer start playing music as soon as the playlist has entries.
- Instead, we wait for a play command to be issued.
- Added config file support. Defaults to /etc/pymusicd.conf or ./pymusicd.conf
- Added a setup.py and setup.cfg file. Now users can install PyMusicD using the standard "python setup.py install" method that other scripts and modules use.

todo theme 0.0.1

todo theme 0.0.1

todo theme is a SuperKaramba theme for todo management. more>>
todo theme is a SuperKaramba theme for todo management.

I was trying to find a karamba theme to allow me to put some reminders on my desktop in a nice simple way. I couldnt find one so I created this. Basically theres three text files Urgent Soon and Nice that it reads and displays in different colors depending on which file its in.

Theres also a bit of a sys monitor at the top, pretty basic, but theres a bit of output from the top command that I quite like that I havent seen on any of the others (the three short lines are the top three processes for CPU usage, the number is the % of CPU time they are using).

Double clicking on the text under the TO DO heading will open it up to edit it in kwrite (if you want to use a different editor, just edit the .theme file).

The one dodgy thing about it is you will need a .to_do directory in your home directory for it to work along with some text files, these are included in the tar ball (remember though its a . file so you will have to use ls -a to see it) if you just copy the whole .to_do directory into your home directory once its extracted (or alternativly extract it in your home directory and copy the .theme file to where you want it).
