Notalon is an application designed to make taking Cornell notes faster and easier. more>>
Notalon is an application designed to make taking Cornell notes faster and easier. Notalon is written specifically for the task of taking Cornell notes, unlike a word processor.

The idea came from the words "notes" and the "alon" suffix. Coincidentally, the title of the application is contained within the phrase "not alone", although this was completely unintended.

twocrypt 2

twocrypt 2

twocrypt provides a crypto tool with a deniable encryption option. more>>
twocrypt provides a crypto tool with a deniable encryption option.
twocrypt (2c) is a tool for the ultra-paranoid, providing a traditional crypto, but also an option of deniable (subpoena-proof) encryption. It encrypts one or two files at once.
Each file can be recovered with its respective passphrase, but the presence of more than one file cannot be demonstrated, and the presence of this option alone should not be a credible argument for data hiding.
2c2 is a simple symmetric file encryption utility. It comes with an
interesting optional feature - it is capable to embed an additional file
within an encrypted data. This is done in a way that cannot be detected
without knowing the passphrase protecting the "hidden" file, even if the
password for the primary file is disclosed. The design is such that the
fact of using this method alone does not constitute a credible evidence of
data hiding (IANALBMSUTDO). This kind of encryption is also called
"subpoena-proof" or "deniable".
There is some previous work in this area. There are two popular approaches,
one is to throw away the encryption key, but store some information that
can be used to recover the key with a considerable computation effort
(several years or so). The concept seems to be risky for obvious reasons,
and is also impractical if the data has to remain accessible before the
projected cracking date.
The other approach is to have a number of containers protected with a number of passwords, of which some but not all might be encrypted data (rubberhose does that). I think its needlessly complex, and usually applied to a storage such as a disk drive.
As such, 2c would be the first tool to implement this functionality in a
reasonable and practical fasion, at least I think so.
Enhancements:
- It was possible to tell a two-file result from a single-file output,
_statistically_. This does not mean the question can be answered for a
particular archive, but single-file archives had a tendency to result
in a slightly larger file, and if you have a number of 2c-protected
files for which the primary password has been obtained, it can be
told how you use 2c. The reason for that was slightly broken compressed
pad length logic.
Severity: medium
- As a cryptographic safeguard, the random pad stream now consists of
a random, compressed file of a random length, followed by true garbage.
This is to mimick second file scenario more closely, so that if the
encryption proves weaker than originally thought, and some statistical
properties of a stream can be deduced, theres no exposure. Version
1 always used a full-length compressed pad, which was silly in that
its not that common to store perfectly-fit secondary files.
Severity: hypotetical issue
- In v1, random chunk would seldom get compressed, because the compression
algorithm resorted to storing uncompressed data if compression would
result in output bigger than input. This is not a flaw per se, but
defeats a minor safeguard intended to mimick a file that would often
be compressible. Now, encryption of all blocks is forced, even though
it might be less efficient.
Severity: hypotetical issue
- Input blocks are now split randomly to avoid placing compression
headers and other known structures at constant locations. This is just
another arbitrary safeguard for the algorithm.
Severity: hypotetical issue
- per Jamess suggestion, I added a counter to the PRNG generator
internal state. This prevents a hypotetical (although *extremely*
unlikely) generator stall scenario. This spectacularly breaks v1
compatibility, blame James ;-)
Severity: low

ModVB Alpha

ModVB Alpha

ModVB is a Apache module which aims to provide an ASP/VBScript/JScript compatibility layer for your web-pages. more>>
ModVB is a Apache module which aims to provide an JScript/VBScript/ASP compatibility layer for your web-pages. In other words it allows you to run with none or little modifications your ASP pages on your Linux server running Apache.

A bit of perspective

ModVB is based on the work done by Marco Ridoni (mod_gb) and Michael Meeks, Ravi Pratap and other people on Gnome Basic which was meant to be a VB work-alike for Linux. After the successful launch of Mono, Gnome Basic was officially declared "dead".

A few months later Marco Ridoni decided to start mod_gb, dropping (even if not completely) the support for GUI elements (Forms, Buttons, etc.) and adding external "class libraries" which could be used to expand the language in real ASP-fashion.

The ModVB project was started to improve upon Marco Ridonis work and create a full featured IIS clone with possible JScript support as well as more objects than supported by standard IIS/ASP

Current state

ModVB is currently alpha-quality software, maybe even a step behind that. Its nowhere near ready to be installed and run by the faint-hearted, let alone on a production server. If you decide to download, compile and install it, just dont say we never warned you.

trickle 1.06

trickle 1.06

trickle provides a lightweight, portable, per-application bandwidth shaper. more>>
trickle is a portable lightweight userspace bandwidth shaper. It can run in collaborative mode (together with trickled) or in stand alone mode.
trickle works by taking advantage of the unix loader preloading. Essentially it provides, to the application, a new version of the functionality that is required to send and receive data through sockets.
It then limits traffic based on delaying the sending and receiving of data over a socket. trickle runs entirely in userspace and does not require root privileges.
INSTALL
$ ./configure
$ make
$ su
# make install
Enhancements:
- The polling functionality (poll() and select()) was reworked.
- Protocol messages are encoded using XDR in order to allow for host to host communications and sharing of bandwidth management.
- A control protocol and utility, tricklectl, was added in order to control a running trickled.

Periodic Calendar is a GUI utility which assists in women menstrual cycles tracking and fertility periods prediction.

The information tracked by this application can be used either to became pregnant or to prevent pregnancy.

At this point the fertility prediction is based on the calendar method which is not very precise. It is not recommended to use this method alone for the birth control.

KLCMonitorApplet 2.0.6

KLCMonitorApplet 2.0.6

KLCMonitorApplet provides a LineControl monitoring applet for Kicker. more>>
KLCMonitorApplet provides a LineControl monitoring applet for Kicker.
KLCMonitorApplet is KDE applet that monitors a LineControl server, a program that controls your Internet connection.
Why did we code LineControl?
We were tired of using telnet to get a masquerading servers internet connection up and down. Furthermore you get clean statistics and you have better control over the line when youre not alone.
User accounting and the possibility to choose one from multiple lines/providers are two of the features that help to have an easy control over your connections.
What does LineControl do?
LineControl runs a server application on a masquerading - server (Linux). Clients on other hosts may now talk to this server and say that it should establish a certain line (usually using pppd/chat, isdnctrl or some other script). LineControl Server then calls a certain shellscript and waits until a specified network - device is up (for analog lines), until /dev/isdninfo changes its status (if using the ISDN capabilities) or until a certain file exists. Then it sends to all connected Clients a message that the connection is established.
The connection wont get killed until each client told to do so, had a timeout or has been terminated.
Main features:
- user accounting using Linux-PAM or passwd/shadow file
- controlling multiple lines
- throughput measuring
- logging & analizing (view example)
- logging to a MySQL database (view example)
- html formatted status report via webserver (view example)
- different line types (analog, isdn, adsl, ... it should be possible to run LC with any line!)
- pinger (to avoid line-drops)
- reporting data (time, nr, ...) about incoming isdn calls to the clients (inclusive addressbook lookup)
- client dependant modifications of the NAT servers firewall (using an external script whenever a client goes on- or offline)
Package description
linesrv The one and only LineControl Server. You certainly need it. Of course it runs only under linux.
wlc2 The standard client for Windows. Try the dynamic version. The chance that it runs on your system is quite small. If it doesnt work, then take the static version which includes some borland libraries. Functionality is all the same (including features and bugs).
klcc The one and only client for Linux KDE. High quality, KDE users will like the smooth integration into their desktop.
jlc A client written in Java. It hasnt many features yet but provides an application as well as an applet.
xlc A client for linux X11 using the Gimp Toolkit (gtk).
The gui is quite clobby but shows all lines and their statistics at the same time in a list. It includes xlcm, which consists only of the minidisplay from xlc.
lclog-mysql Some php scripts which generate nice statistics from a linesrv mysql log database if used together with a webserver such as apache.
lclog2mysql Helps converting a 2.1.x linesrv logfile to a mysql log. You still have to manually create the needed database and tables!

WordSearch is a Perl script that generates word search puzzles. WordSearch will generate random word search puzzles, or you can give it a list which will allow it to generate your own puzzles.

This program is based off of discussions Ive had with Stephen Uitti, who wrote a C program to create wordsearch puzzles.

Without these discussions, this application probably wouldnt even exist, let alone be useful. Thanks, Steve!
