Whole Platform 1.0.0.v20070403-1644

Whole Platform 1.0.0.v20070403-1644

Whole Platform project is a technology for engineering the production of software. more>>
Whole Platform project is a technology for engineering the production of software.
We think that programming is an activity concerning the development of domain languages; so, we provide a platform for developing new languages, manipulating them using domain notations and transforming them to executable code.
Using the Whole Platform, the problem domain experts can work together with the programming experts for the development of software products.
The Whole Platform includes a modeling framework, a generative system, a family of languages, and domain editors integrated with the Eclipse platform.
The languages boundled with the Platform include popular languages such as Java and XML together with some new domain languages used for modeling the structure, the behavior, the persistence and the notations of a language.
Main features:
Architecture
- Extensible. The architecture provides an API for language extension. You can add/remove languages, notations, persistences and operations.
- Java frameworks and domain languages. All the expressive power of the Whole Platform is available as standard Java frameworks. Part of this expressive power is also available through a family of domain languages.
- Generative. The Whole modeling languages generate code on top of the Java frameworks. Together with the extensive use of wellknown Design Patterns in frameworks, the code generated feels hand written.
Metaprogramming
- Native support. Each Whole language can be used at template level and, if it has an executable semantics, it can be also used at base or host level.
- Staging support for visitors. Staging support is available for behavior defined using the visitors traversal framework.
- Mixing template languages. A single artifacts generator can use multiple template languages.
Persistence
- Stream based persistence. The Persistence syntax of a model is pluggable. Both stream based and model based persistence methods (kits) are supported. The streaming API looks like the building events produced by the Director participant of the Builder Design Pattern.
- Java code and XML default serializers. The standard persistence kits are based on a streaming API and are available in two flavor: Java and XML. The Java code, when executed, fires a stream of building events.
- Stream based behavior. Model behavior can be defined directly on top of the streaming API without prior building of the model.
- Multiple languages support. Programs written using multiple languages are supported even on a single source file.
- Versioning support. Facilities for versioning metamodels and migrate/import existing models are provided.
Editing
- GEF based editors for Eclipse. Model based visual editors for Eclipse can be added to a Whole language even using separate plugins.
- Rich graphical user interfaces. Multiple kinds of notations are supported including grammar layouts for text oriented languages, math layout for mathematical expressions, tree and graph layouts for diagram oriented languages.
- Multiple notations for a language. For each language multiple notations can be defined and deployed in a modular way. The notation can be changed while editing.
- Mixing notations. Multiple notations can be mixed even on a single editor view. This feature is especially useful for metaprogramming using concrete syntaxes for template languages.

SIMD Cross-platform headers 2004.10.26

SIMD Cross-platform headers 2004.10.26

SIMD Cross-platform headers is a cross- platform, cross-compiler, cross CPU C/C++ header collection. more>>
SIMD Cross-platform headers is a cross- platform, cross-compiler, cross CPU C/C++ header collection that aids the creation portable vectorized (SIMD) C/C++ code.
SIMD Cross-platform headerst supports (or partially supports) x86 (MMX/SSE/SSE2) GCC and MSVC, PPC Altivec GCC and CodeWarrior, ARM GCC, and software-emulated SIMD.
NOTE: Code must be 16-byte aligned. Align to 16 when allocating memory.
X86/XSCALE (Intel) vs. PowerPC/MIPS
While the PowerPC and MIPS SIMD instructions take 2 source vectors and a destination vector, the Intel platforms only take a source and destination. Example:
PPC/MIPS can do:
C = A + B
X86 can only do:
A = A + B (or A+=B)
Code written either way will work on the X86, and still be faster than 387 math, but preserving the registers takes significant overhead (Disassemble the test program for an example. The prints preserve, the disassembly test does not.) For the fastest code between systems, write your SIMD math as the X86 expects, manually preserving SIMD variables.
At least GCC for PPC doesnt seem to have any issues figuring out how to deal with a source and destination memory address being the same.
Enhancements:
- Created file with some i386, GCC dialect

Free Pascal Compiler 2.1.4

Free Pascal Compiler 2.1.4

Free Pascal Compiler is a 32/64-bit Pascal Compiler for AmigaOS, DOS, Linux, *BSD, OS/2, MacOS(X) and Win32. more>>
Free Pascal (aka FPK Pascal) is a 32 or 64 bit (from 1.9.6) pascal compiler. Free Pascal Compiler is available for different processors Intel x86, Amd64/x86 64 (from 1.9.6), PowerPC (from 1.9.2), Sparc (from 1.9.6) and Motorola 680x0 (1.0.x only).
The following operating systems are supported Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, MacOSX/Darwin, MacOS classic, DOS, Win32, OS/2, BeOS, SunOS (Solaris), QNX and Classic Amiga.
Main features:
- Very clean language Pascal is a very nice language, your programs will be more readable and maintainable than for example in C, and lets even forget about C++. And you dont need to give up the power, the Pascal language is as powerful as you want it.
- No Makefiles Unlike most programming languages, Pascal does not need Makefiles. You can save huge amounts of time, the compiler just figures out itself which files need to be recompiled.
- Pascal compilers are Fast with a big F and Free Pascal is no exception. Yes, you no longer need to grow roots while compiling your programs, just hit the compile key and its done, even for large programs.
- Each unit has its own identifiers In Pascal you never need to worry about polluting the namespace, like in C where an identifier needs to be unique accross the entire program. No, in Pascal each unit gets its own namespace and thats very relaxed.
- Integrated development environment Free Pascal comes with an IDE which work on several platforms, in which you can write, compile and debug your programs. You will save huge amounts of time using the IDE, the best programming friend you have.
- Great integration with assembler Do you think pascal is for wimps who need to learn programming? WRONG! Its excellent for high tech programming and for the supreme nerds among you we have the integrated assemblers. You can easily mix assembler code and Pascal code, in the language you wish? Prefer Intel styled assembler? No problem, if its needed Free Pascal will convert it to ATT for you. Do you want to convert your program into a source file for Nasm? No problem, and all ATT assembler in your source files is automatically converted.
- Object oriented programming And if you do the serious programming, you are of course very interested in object oriented programming. Use the Turbo Pascal and Object Pascal ways of OOP according to your taste. The FCL and Free Vision and provide you with the powerful object libraries you need. For your database needs we support PostgreSQL, MySQL, Interbase and ODBC.
- Smartlinking Free Pascals smart linker leaves out any variable or code that you do not use. That makes small programs small with a big S, while they are still statically linked, avoiding DLL hell!
- Distribution independence (Linux) As a result of this, software compiled by the Linux version of Free Pascal runs on any Linux distribution, making it much, much, easier to make your software support multiple Linux distributions.
- Available for a lot of platforms on several architectures Free Pascal is available for more platforms than most other Pascal compilers and allows easy cross-compiling, just change the target in the IDE and compile! And there is work going on for even more platforms and processors.
- Compatible Have existing code? Free Pascal is more compatible with it than any other Pascal compiler. We are almost completely compatible with Turbo Pascal and quite well compatible with Delphi source code. If you have code in another language, like C or assembler, just use favorite compiler for it and call it from Free Pascal.
Version restrictions:
- For the intel 80x86 version at least a 386 processor is required, but a 486 is recommended. For the motorola 680x0 version, a 68020 or later processor is recommended. In all cases, a minimum of 8 Megabytes of RAM is recommended, but the compiler is reported to work with 4 Megabytes of RAM.

txObject Python Modules 1.3.9

txObject Python Modules 1.3.9

The txObject Python Modules provide an interface to the txObject Application Tool Kit and Libraries. more>>
The txObject Python Modules provide an interface to the txObject Application Tool Kit and Libraries. txObject ATK provides both embedded and application level projects a five-layer framework. Each layer offers a unified set of tools that allows programmers to focus their development efforts.
A correlation can be made between txObject ATK and Sun Microsystems Inc. Java Language. txObject ATK has many of the advantages Java has, but without some of the performance issues commonly associated with the Java Language. Javas initial advantages are its platform independent built-in and publicly available support libraries. Due to the basic nature of Java, its libraries have a common object-oriented feel and data flow model. txObject ATK has accomplished a similar Java-like environment for C++.
Another correlation can be made between txObject ATK and the CORBA Standards. As demand increases for applications to run in distributed environments and on multiple platforms, projects have had a new added complexity to their traditional development cycle. txObject ATK greatly decreases such complexity in a similar way CORBA does but with two fundamental differences. The first distinction is that txObject ATK is a tightly coupled peer-to-peer distributed system, where CORBA is a loosely coupled client-server model. The second division is that txObject ATK distributed objects are state and transaction consistent. CORBA provides distributed object interfaces without state.
txObject ATK is ideal for developing embedded applications. It has been optimized for memory and CPU constrained systems. The entire software package is comprised of 5,000 lines of class declaration code and 10,000 lines of implementation code. Further reading shall account for the size of each layer.
Each layer of the txObject ATK is a foundation for every successive layer. In order for a particular layer to operate, it requires the layers below it but not the ones above. Since layer 1 is the base for all other layers, close attention should be paid. Each component in layer 1 will be used intimately throughout layers 2-5.
Main features:
- Layer 1 - Object Library
- Layer 2 - I/O & Timers
- Layer 3 - Object-Oriented Threads
- Layer 4 - Inter-Process Communication
- Layer 5 - True Distributed Object Comm. (Object Replication)

Audio Input-Output Library 0.2.0

Audio Input-Output Library 0.2.0

Audio Input-Output Library (libaio) is meant to solve the problem of differing digital audio platforms once and for all. more>>
Audio Input-Output Library (libaio) is meant to solve the problem of differing digital audio platforms once and for all.

JACK is unnecessarily complex for most applications, and while libaos support for file output is cool, it limits what the API can do and is therefore inadequate for any kind of real time application.

libaio provides a clean application interface and a simple compile-time driver switching decision, yielding a lightweight way to use the local sound hardware without having to care what it is.

Libaios first sparkle was when I, Hod McWuff (alias, of course), found myself trying to debug ALSA implementations for libao and madplay, and another audio-related project Id been working on. That project needed multiplatform audio support of its own, with latency management, which libao lacked.

It also seemed that libao shouldnt have been trying to be both a hardware abstraction *AND* an output abstraction, and also that it seemed more intuitive as an output (live vs file) abstraction.

Enter libaio. All it does is abstract the local sound hardware platform, to present a clean, uniform interface to playing and capturing digital audio, with facilities for basic latency management. It was written from scratch around its developing ALSA driver, from many many reference sources including libao and Robert Leslies excellent madplay MP3 decoder, and of course the ALSA documentation and examples.

Libaios distinction comes from its build-time decisionmaking. It only compiles and links the best driver available for the given platform. Therefore, selecting and loading a driver no longer applies; and well it shouldnt, theres never more than one correct choice anyway.

Libaio is not intended to replace libao; rather it is intended to supplement it. The key argument is, why would anyone EVER have more than one running sound platform type on any single machine? Sure, they might have ESD or ARTS, but they more resemble file output than a live device. Theres also the OSS emulation in ALSA, but given a good ALSA driver, whod use OSS?

Then theres the fact that applications have to tell libao what "plugin" to use, and all the drivers in libao have different parameters. That means the application has to know more than it should about what it shouldnt have to see. The app shouldnt have to say more than "give me the local device for playback with *** format" or something to that effect, and start writing.

Finally, plugins for stuff like proprietary file formats, ESD et al, but there shouldnt be any need for more than one of (ALSA|OSS|SUN|WIN32|MACOSX ) on any given distribution. Therefore, binary distribution of a compiled-in driver is possible, even preferred.

It is proposed that all of the hardware drivers in libao, and madplay, and several other places, be reviewed and ported to libaio. Then, they can be removed from those packages in favor of an AIO interface.

Installation:

## building
./configure
make

## installing (as root)

PoDoFo 0.5.0

PoDoFo library is a free, portable C++ library. more>>
PoDoFo library is a free, portable C++ library. PoDoFo library can parse existing PDF files and create new ones from scratch.

PoDoFo is a library to work with the PDF file format. The name comes from the first letter of PDF (Portable Document Format). A few tools to work with PDF files are already included in the PoDoFo package.

The PoDoFo library is a free, portable C++ library which includes classes to parse PDF files and modify their contents into memory. The changes can be written back to disk easily. The parser can also be used to extract information from a PDF file (for example the parser could be used in a PDF viewer).

Besides parsing PoDoFo includes also very simple classes to create your own PDF files. All classes are documented so it is easy to start writing your own application using PoDoFo.

As of now PoDoFo is only available for Unix platforms. But the code is portable C++ and a Windows version will be available soon.
