XBoard 4.2.7

XBoard project is a X and Windows graphical chessboard. more>>
XBoard project is a X and Windows graphical chessboard.
XBoard is a graphical chessboard for X that can serve as a user interface for GNU Chess, Crafty, other chess engines, and the Internet Chess Servers.
XBoard can also be used by itself to read and write game files in PGN (portable game notation). WinBoard is a port of XBoard to Microsoft Win32.
You can build xboard on most systems with the following commands.
./configure
make
Enhancements:
- Version 4.2.7 corrects about two dozen bugs in the 4.2.6 release.
- In addition, WinBoard 4.2.7 comes bundled with GNU Chess 5.07 instead of the old 5.02+ version.
- The XBoard and WinBoard source code trees have been merged, so the xboard download now contains the complete source for both.

EPoX wmsensormon 1.2.0 EP-8RDA3I

EPoX wmsensormon 1.2.0 EP-8RDA3I

EPoX wmsensormon is a hack based on the original wmsensormon package. more>>
EPoX wmsensormon is a hack based on the original wmsensormon package, version 1.1.3.
My modified version works out of the box on an 2.6.6 Linux kernel using the w83627hf and i2c-isa modules for hardware sensor monitoring, for an EPoX 8RDA3I motherboard.
Take it or leave it, dont call me for support.
Usage details
Compile by issuing make under the wmsensormon directory. You may need to add some -I and -L flags to the Makefile for your particular setup.
For me it works best when run like this:
wmsensormon -s1 -lf 2850 -lt 50 -ls 24
You can, of course, adjust the limits as you see fit, but only use integer values. Run wmsensormon without parameters to get help. The -lf is the lower CPU fan limit, -lt is the upper CPU and MOB temperature limit, -ls is the upper SYS temperature limit.
I dont use any of the additional features (logging, safety command, temperature switching) so they are untested. SMP support has been mangled and disabled so it most likely wont work in a multi-processor environment.
Options : -h, --help this help screen
-v, --version print version information
-f show temperatures in Fahrenheit
-s default SMP mode (mode #1)
-s1 SMP mode #1 (CPU 1, CPU 2, sys, fan)
-s2 SMP mode #2 (CPU 1, CPU 2, fan 1, fan 2)
-w switch CPU and SYS temperature readings
-r refresh time (in microseconds, default 100000)
-l enable logging with default time, (default 30000)
-ln enable logging with specified time, (1000 = 1 min)
-lt limit CPU temperature, default: system value (i.e. 60)
input values in Celsius
-ls limit SYS temperature, default: system value (i.e. 60)
input values in Celsius
-lf limit fan speed, default: system value (i.e. 3000)
-lv limit CPU core volts, default is system value
either: max voltage first, min voltage second (i.e. 180 170)
or: percent difference first, value second (i.e. % 5 175)
Example command line:
limit temp, fan, volt: wmsensormon -lt 40 -ls 30 -lf 5000 -lv 183 167 -f
using percent and SMP: wmsensormon -lt 40 -ls 30 -lf 5000 -lv % 5 175 -s -f
You must specify at least one command line argument, do to the fact that not everyone has the same CPU, voltage, or fan setup.
Enhancements:
- Hacked by xlife@zuavra.net to work on my new EPoX 8RDA3I.
- Displays CPU, MOB, SYS and FAN and reacts to lf, lt and ls limits.

Gullydeckel Chess Program 2.16pl1

Gullydeckel Chess Program 2.16pl1

Gullydeckel Chess Program project is a simple chess program. more>>
Gullydeckel Chess Program project is a simple chess program.
The Gullydeckel chess playing program allows you to play a game of chess against a not too strong opponent. It has been written by Martin Borriss and is available free of charge on the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).
You can use Gullydeckel with Linux and Windows. Most people integrate Gullydeckel with a graphical chess board such as WinBoard. Other interfaces are quite possible (Fritz 8, Arena, or Chessbase).
Installing
1. Extract the sources from the archive (e.g., "tar zxf g2_2.13.pl6.tgz")
2. "cd src"
3. "make" (This gives you the gully2 binary.)
4. To have the opening book available, copy the file "book.bin" into the directory where the binary resides. (This is the place and filename searched by default.)
5. Now you are ready to go. You can solve testsuites (in epd/fen format) by typing something like
"gully2 -f ../Tests/bk.epd --time 30"
or play a game using Xboard (e.g., "xboard -fcp gully2").
Enhancements:
- This release removes extra polling code used when pondering structures for detailed evaluation in place.

Aero AIO 0.9.1: lm_sensors temp monitor is a SuperKaramba theme which you can monitor hardware temperatures (CPU, Motherboard) via lm_sensors hardware sensors.

This is useful for those (like me) that dont have information about temperatures through /proc/acpi/thermal_zone (and Aero AIO standard plugin only monitors these values through acpi thermal...).

This plugin comes with a configuration dialog too, so its easy to adapt it on your lm_sensors hardware sensors.

Designed and tested for Aero AIO 0.9.1 (needed).

Installation:

Use the Aero AIO plugin installation dialog to install the .aiz file.

Autoplay project connects two xboard/winboard protocol complaint chess engines and lets them play against each other. more>>
Autoplay project connects two xboard/winboard protocol complaint chess engines and lets them play against each other. The result will be logged in a easily parseable logfile and after the result of the game is known, a specific exit-code is returned (0=white won, 1=black won, etc).

How to run it?

GNUChess versus Pos

autoplay -1 "gnuchess -x " -2 "java -Xmx256M -jar pos --io-mode xboard" -r -l gnuchess_v_pos.log

Sjeng versus GNUChess
autoplay -1 sjeng -2 "gnuchess -x" -l sjeng_v_gnuchess.log

Engines running on seperate computers

This example runs gnuchess on computer B with white and sjeng on computer A with black:

Computer B (slave):
autoplay -P 7788 -0 "gnuchess -x"

Computer A (master):
autoplay -1 "client:B:7788" -2 "sjeng" -v -r

TINA KNOPPIX Live CD 2.0.0

TINA KNOPPIX Live CD 2.0.0

TINA is an open source environment developed to accelerate the process of image analysis research. more>>
TINA is an open source environment developed to accelerate the process of image analysis research.

TINA provides functionality to assist in all areas of image analysis including handling of image, image feature and geometrical data; statistical and numerical analysis of data; GUI development as well as transmission and containment of data.

TINA also provides a range of high-level analysis techniques for both machine vision (3D object location, 2D object recognition, temporal-stereo depth estimation, etc) and medical image analysis (MR tissue segmentation, blood flow analysis, etc).

Now, thanks to the magic of KNOPPIX, you can experience TINA without installing any software. Simply place the CD into the CD drive of any PC and reboot.

Place the CD into the CD drive of any (reasonably modern) PC and reboot. The PC must be able to boot from the CD drive: if your own bootloader or windows starts up, reboot again and check your bios settings (you will probably be prompted to press DEL during startup). On the bios settings screen, check the boot devices: the first should be the floppy drive, the second the CD drive and the third the hard drive (possibly with a fourth option of booting from a network device). Check you motherboard manual for more details.

The KNOPPIX CD contains a live Linux distribution based on Debian, with a KDE 3 desktop. The TINA libraries are in /usr/local/TINA5, and some TINA demos are in /usr/local/Tina5/tina-tools/toolkits/knoppix_tookit (they can be accessedvia the desktop icons).

LibLp 0.1

LibLp is a library to send and receive data to the parallel port under Linux, using a few simple functions. more>>
LibLp is a library to send and receive data to the parallel port under Linux, using a few simple functions.

Installation:

just untar the file (tar xvfz liblp-0.1.tar.gz) and walk into liblp-0.1; then issue a make. This will build two libraries (liblpstatic.a and liblp.so) the static and the dynamic version; and one test program (test) that send some bytes to the parallel port.

Bugs:

In some systems, Liblp doesnt compile due a little change in the includes for ioperm. Just walk into liblp.h and comment/uncomment the include for system.h and io.h.

Its pretty simple;)

I have to write some serious Documentation

This library has been tested over the following hardware:

486 DX/50
Pentium II 400
Pentium III 650

So I think this will work in any PC-Compatible computer.

WARNINGS about HARDWARE

You will need a parallel cable extensor (a lp cable just doesnt work) o plug the cables directly to the PC boards connector.

Be careful with the tension applied to the port, you can just burn out the PC motherBoard; To protect the board, just build a diode bridge (Im computer ingenieer, no a electronic guy)

RESOURCES

Kernel Sources
Some hardware tech documents
My Inspiration
LibLp has been use to command a PIC microcontroller programmer; a Robot Interface, and some electronic circuits.

Chessweb 1.0 alpha2

Chessweb 1.0 alpha2

Chessweb is a J2EE chess game Website. more>>
Chessweb is a J2EE chess game Website. It is a pure Java servlet implementation of a two-player chess game.

Two players log into the Web site, see an image of the current board in their browser, and make their moves.

The differentiating features of chessweb (e.g. versus WinBoard / XBoard) is that its an extremely lightweight implementation written completely in Java (nothing more than an app server and browser is required).

Furthermore, the client end is DHTML only, and verified to works with FireFox 1.0.6 and IE 6.

xmbmon 2.05

xmbmon 2.05

xmbmon is a monitoring program for motherboards. more>>
xmbmon is a monitoring program for motherboards.
Recent motherboards have functionalities to monitor the CPU temperatures and the frequency of CPU cooling fans etc.
Although some programs utilizing these hardware monitoring facilities have been developed for the Microsoft Windows platforms, no programs seem to exist for PC-UNIX and the X Windows System platforms.
Thus, I have tried to make small programs. They have only least functionalities, the one "mbmon" used at the command line reports the temperatures, voltages and rpm (rounds per minute) of cooling fans, and the other "xmbmon" displays the three temperatures and a core voltage as simple curves.
The following hardware monitor chips are supported and the programs will work if your motherboard uses one of them or their compatible chip:
1. National Semiconductor co.
LM78/LM79, LM75, LM90, LM80, LM85
2. WinBond co.
W83781D, W83782D, W83783S, W83627HF, W83697HF built-in, W83L784R, W83L785R, W83L785TS-S, W83627THF
3. ASUSTek co.
AS99127F, ASB100 (Bach), ASM58 etc. (Mozart-2)
4. VIA Technology co.
VT82C686A/B built-in
5. Integrated Technology Express co.
IT8705F, IT8712F built-in
6. Genesys Logic
GL518SM, GL520SM
7. Analog Devices
ADM1024/1025/1027, ADT7463, ADM1020/1021/1023
8. Standard Microsystem co.
EMC6D100/101/102
Enhancements:
- Bugs for detecting ALi chipset fixed.
- Further smoothing for plotting curves in xmbmon.
- SMBus accesses of VIA VT8237 and Intel ICH6 are supported.
- Problem related to select() system call fixed.
- The part of IO port read/write is unified into an gas in-line assembler code (so, gcc with x86-gas is assumed!).
- Changes to work on Solaris for x86 platform and others for cleaning up the codes.

GeeXboX 1.1

GeeXboX 1.1

GeeXboX is a GNU/Linux standalone media player system. more>>
The GeeXboX is no more than an awesome standalone media player. Why such a name ? Well, its main purpose is to play DivX movies and, as everybody usually call this kind of projects DivX boxes, well just prepended a "GeeX", cause thats for the geeks you all are.
GeeXboX is a full operating system, livecd that can run on any machine and it is based on the excellent MPlayer. No need for a hard drive, you just have to put the GeeXboX bootable CD into the CD-Drive of any Pentium-class computer to boot it. Moreover, GeeXboX is free software, created as open-source software. This means that everyone can modify it and build his own release of the GeeXboX.
You may wonder why you should have to boot another operating system to play your media files, but just think about the Mini-ITX platforms like VIA Epia/Eden or Shuttle barebones. Its now affordable to bring DivX to your home cinema, plugging this kind of computer directly to your TV !!
At the time of the first development releases (Dec. 2002), it was only capable of playing DivX movies, but now, nearly every kind of media file can be played with GeeXboX, with the OS supporting :
- MPEG 1/2 movies (MPG files, VCDs, DVDs ...)
- MPEG 4 movies (DivX, XviD ...)
- RealMedia and Windows Media movies.
- OggMedia streams
- Matroska streams
- Audio streams like : MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, WAV (AudioCD), AC3 ...
GeeXboX is an operating system but you still need something to boot on ;-) Youre lucky, GeeXboX is based on MPlayer, which can be considered as one of the less cpu-dependent movie players, thanks to the use of FFMpeg for decoding movies.
System requirements:
- Pentium-Class CPU or above (P2-400 should be quite enough)
- a VESA 2.0 compliant graphics card.
- an ALSA compatible sound card.
- at least 64 MB of RAM
- CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
- Motherboard which supports booting on CD-ROM (should be ok for everyone
- Keyboard, Joystick or Remote Controller, using a Lirc-compatible IR (InfraRed) receiver (check http://www.lirc.org to build yours), e.g. Miro PcTVs one or ATI Remote Wonder.
Enhancements:
- GeeXboX 1.1. Although development never stopped, more than a year has passed without any new official GeeXboX release. This new one is a really good candidate for your HTPC multimedia distribution choice. It comes with an improved hardware support, providing dozens of new drivers (a lot of new WiFi controllers, DVB card chipsets and new remote controls). It also comes with a massively upgraded and more stable MPlayer, which features native decoding of various audio and video formats that used to be available through non-free Win32 DLLs only. Also, GeeXboX now has some decoding speed improvements and the OSD menu has been completely rewritten to provide a lot of new attractive features.
