Aget 0.4
Aget is a multi-threaded download accelerator. more>>
Aget is a multi-threaded download accelerator. It supports HTTP downloads and can be run from the console.
This program is aim to like Flashget in unix
Tests show that Aget is successfull in realizing its objectives. A file of size 36.347.010 bytes was downloaded in 14 minutes 28 secs via wget; whereas it was downloaded in 3 minutes and 15 seconds via aget.
Aget is an acronym for two Turkish words "Acele Getir". (Eng.: Get it fast!)
If youre downloading a file of size less than 512K, I suggest using small segments, i.e 4-5 however, if you are downloading large files, you can increase the segmentation Aget first sends a HEAD request to retrieve the length of the file, and divides it into equal segments according to the number user has requested. Then for each segment, it connects to the server and gets only the part, which it is to download. Therefore, if youre downloading a small file, it is suggested that you decrease the number of segmentation, likewise, if its a large file, youre urged to increase the number of threads.

jGetFile 0.80
jGetFile is a scriptable command-line mass-file downloader that is specifically geared towards non-HTML files. more>>
jGetFile project is geared towards mass downloading specifically non-html files from the web. Web crawlers and website downloads are widely available and work very well. Not all web-based file crawlers are equal however.
Few file crawers handle this href scenario: < a href="http://www.foo.com?url=http://youreallywantthislink.com/files" >< /a > jGetFile was engineered to be able to handle as many extraneous href configurations as possible. Although it does not handle all possible cases, more will be supported in future releases.
jGetFile supports a highly configurable means to filter the acceptance of links within the program. A user can use the -i or -e options to have the program only traverse links that start with the addresses the user specified, or to exclude links that start with the specified addresses.
Alternatively, for the powerusers, one can specify a BeanShell script through the -als option. This allows for abritrarily complex rules to be specified for accepting links, like accept only links at depth 1 that begin with www.blah.com, exclude links at level 2 that begin with www.foo.com, and exclude links at level 2 that contain word cat. The depth variable is currently not available to custom scripts, but will be in the next release.
There is no gui in the works, and because of the intended simplicity of this program, one is not planned in the future either. Also, jGetFile is not intended to replace wget, although its initial features were based on wget. jGetFile has the single goal of downloading files fast and efficiently from the web.

Better Weather
Better Weather contains a couple of scripts using normal KDE and Linux tools to provide better display of weather info. more>>
Better Weather contains a couple of scripts using normal KDE and Linux tools to provide better display of weather info than KDEs weather applet. It downloads the information from the US national weather service and maps from weather.com. Two launchers on the main menubar bring up the window separately. Full details and instructions are in the readme.
This is a solution that worked for me, not being a coder. You have to make it work for you. Its an idea and a set of tools. Its also US-centric, but someone may take the idea and make it work just as well anywhere. I hope someone finds it as useful as I do.
WHAT IT DOES
The tools I wrote are two *very* simple bash scripts. The script, localwx.sh, invokes the python weather utility, and downloads the current weather conditions and forecast in text format from the weather service. It stores the information temporarily in a text file (I chose the desktop as the directory in which to save it.) It then "reads" the text file into a kdialog box. When the "ok" button is clicked, the temporary file is deleted.
The other script, wxmap.sh, downloads a current local weather map image using wget, saves it temporarily to the desktop, and calls Kview to display it. When Kview closes, the temporary image file is deleted.
HOW I DID IT
The man pages for "weather," "kdialog," and "wget" were useful for determining which options to use. The script for weather forecasts has to be edited to receive the data for the users current location. My nearest airport is PDK, so my ID was "KPDK." The rest is straightforward enough. To make the weather map script work, you can go to weather.com or your local tv station website and copy the image location for the weather map they use. It can be pasted into the script.
Once the scripts were edited to suit, I made them executable (chmod +x filename), copied them to /usr/local/bin, and created a launcher for each in my main menubar. Describing the process is a lot more difficult than actually doing the work!

SaneWidget project is an image scanning application (frontend to sane), with hopefully a sane user interface. SaneWidget is also an example of how one can use libsanewidget.
libsanewidget is a Qt4-based library that provides a widget, containing sane options and a preview area. The application only needs to create a sanewidget-widget and connect some signals to get a notification of when an image is ready to be retrieved.
The source package contains both the library and the application.
To compile the library:
] cd /path/to/libsanewidget
] mkdir build
] cd build
] cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr ../
] make
] sudo make install
To compile the application:
] cd /path/to/sanewidget
] qmake-qt4 INSTALLBASE=/usr
] make
] sudo make install
It is also possible to install Kubuntu Feisty packages with apt-get:
Download and add my authentication key to authenticate the packages:
] wget http://www.kolumbus.fi/kare.sars/kare_sars_pub.gpg
] sudo apt-key add kare_sars_pub.gpg
Add the following lines to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://www.kolumbus.fi/kare.sars/ubuntu-debs ./
deb-src http://www.kolumbus.fi/kare.sars/ubuntu-debs ./
Update the packags list and install...:

Network Security Monitor Daemon 4.0
The Network Security Monitor Daemon is a lightweight network security monitor for TCP/IP LANs. more>>
The Network Security Monitor Daemon is a lightweight network security monitor for TCP/IP LANs. It will capture certain network events and record them in a relational database. The recorded data is available for analysis through a CGI-based interface.
You can run test version with ./Monitord, just to see how it works. Production version should be run in background, v.g. with nohup ./monitord &. Both versions will accept a device name as a parameter (default: eth0). You can send them SIGHUP at any time to print some stats. If you send SIGTERM, SIGQUIT or SIGINT, all threads will end gracefully.
Enhancements:
- Linux Kernel with "packet sockets" and "socket filtering" support.
- GNU C Library 2 (glibc2) with LinuxThreads support. (integrated in most recent versions).
- Full MySQL, including headers and libmysqlclient_r.
- GNU C Compiler (gcc).
- GNU Make (make).
- Perl (perl).
- Wget (wget).
Enhancements:
- Added chmod 4755 ... in Makefile
- Root should run make now, but not the daemon ;-)
- The daemon will drop root privileges as soon as possible
- (after creating the raw socket with an attached linux socket
- filter and putting the interface in promiscuous mode)
- No threads run with root privileges so its much safer
- (specially the new server thread which reads remote user input)
- Added stats thread
- To calculate/mantain exponential averages
- Added server thread
- It accepts HTTP requests and serves stats in XML

httpget 2.0.0
httpget is a simple command-line program for running scripts on remote web servers. more>>
httpget is a simple command-line program for running scripts on remote web servers. Runs on Win32, Linux, Mac OS X (and possibly other Unix-like OSes).
Often on complex application sites, there are scripts that must run periodically (often nightly) to do housekeeping work. These scripts are often very complex and can take a long time to run, sometimes longer than programs like curl or wget will allow.
httpget will wait for a configurable amount of time (12 hours by default) for the script to finish running. It outputs everything that is received from the remote server for logging purposes. httpget can send usernames and passwords for basic authentication but it cannot hit SSL sites.

Please note that TinySID has nothing to do with other projects such as SIDPlay. The 6510/6581 emulation is based on routines by Tammo Hinrichs (kb) and has been further developed.
Enhancements:
- This release added support for multi-speed tunes and digi-playback.
- Bugs in CPU emulation and endian neutral code were fixed.
- Speedups were achieved in the synth renderer.
<<less- exact C64 PC cycle syncronizing
- multispeed tunes will use the same timing a real C64 does
- improved HardSID sample output (includes mixer)

- Previous versions required just 20kbyte disk space. This was however skipped due to 64bit support.
Main features:
- Multiplatform
- Native 32/64 bit windows support

WebSuck 0.76b
WebSuck project creates a list of data files found on a Web page. more>>
WebSuck project creates a list of data files found on a Web page.
WebSuck goes through a Web page, following links and making a list of the datafiles encountered along the way.
It is useful for such tasks as downloading large image galleries without clicking all the links yourself.
It can output a file list in a format appropriate for wget, and another for GetRight. It can be used either via a Swing GUI or in console mode.
The program is best suited for downloading web galleries with large amounts of photos. There are plenty of options to make the Web Suck well-adapted to most sites layouts.
All command-line options can now be accessed from the GUI! (new from version 0.6b)
Just run WebSuck with one parameter: -gui
WebSuck does NOT download the files found. You need to use the files with a file downloader, like WebGet.
GUI Mode
Start WebSuck with -gui as one of the parameters, and the Swing GUI will be displayed!
$ java -jar WebSuck.jar -gui
Command Line Arguments
$ java -jar WebSuck.jar ...
At least one URL must be specified, either on the command line or in a URL file.
Enhancements:
- Retries 5 times before aborting download when datastream is stalled.
