tngCalendar 1.3

tngCalendar 1.3

tngCalendar is a Web calendar addon to the TNG software for online genealogy. more>>
tngCalendar is a Web calendar addon to the TNG software for online genealogy.
I have a fairly large family and often have trouble keeping track of birthdays, anniversaries, and the like.
Ive also started keeping track of my familys genealogy via a web-based package, so the solution seemed obvious: add the component I needed so the software I was already using.
The result is called tngCalendar. The calendar is a simple monthly view with birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and dates of death overlaid.
tngCalendar operates in conjunction with the TNG package, but can (and should) be installed separately. Simply download the package, and uncompress in a temporary directory. Edit the php file according to the directions contained inside, and copy the pieces into place.
Note that tngCalendar may circumvent your security setup by "giving away" birth and marriage dates relevent to living persons. However, since the exact year of a persons birth or marriage is not shown on the calendar (it only shows anniversaries, the year is only used for dFixed a bug in the anniversaries.php links (the day numbers on the calendar).
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a bug introduced in 1.2 that caused anniversaries to fail to display.
- It fixes a bug that caused links to point to the wrong entries in some cases.
- It adds support for nickname, lnprefix, and suffix when available.

FreeVikings game reimplements the DOS game Lost Vikings.

One evening I was playing with toys like Emacs (my favourite text editor) and Ruby (my favourite high-level programming language) and I dreamed about playing one very nice game, Lost Vikings, on Linux. Without DOS emulator.

If only I had the source code... I would change it to run on my favourite operating system. But its a commercial game and its manufacturers dont want to make it free, although its rather old (1993). "Let you make it from scratch." I said to myself and started writing my first game in Ruby.

FreeDOS was previously known as "Free-DOS" and originally as "PD-DOS." For a little trip down memory lane: In 1994, I was a physics student at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Most of my work for school had been done using DOS - writing programs, dialing up to the university computer, network, analysing lab data, etc. I really loved DOS; I did everything with it. I had a 386 desktop system in my dorm room and an XT laptop that I would carry around with me to do work "on the go".

PING 1.10 / 2.00 RC7

PING 1.10 / 2.00 RC7

PING is a live Linux ISO, based on the excellent RIP (Recovery Is Possible) distribution. more>>
PING is a live Linux ISO, based on the excellent RIP (Recovery Is Possible) distribution. PING can be burnt on a CD and booted, or integrated in a PXE / RIS environment.
Several tools have been added and written, so to make this ISO the perfect choice to backup and restore whole partitions, an easy way. It sounds like Symantec Ghost(tm), but has even better features, and is totally free.
Main features:
- Backup and Restore partitions or files to a MS Network Shared directory;
- Backup and Restore the BIOS data as well;
- Either burn a bootable CD / DVD, either integrate within a PXE / RIS environment;
- Possibility to Blank local admins password;
- Create your own restoration bootable DVD (see the Howto Documentation);
- Partition and Format a disk before installing Windows (so to make sure your unattended Windows installation will happen on the right partition);
Specific advantages Linux brings you over DOS and Ghost :
- Most network cards automatically recognized by the Kernel (unlike DOS);
- Most CD/DVD readers automatically recognized by the Kernel (unlike DOS);
- You dont have to run a Ghostcast server to receive images over the network.
Whats New in 2.00 RC7 Development Release:
- NTFS filesystems were not being resized to the maximum size that the partition could contain, though logging reported such.
- An occasional hang on some systems when it came to mount NTFS partitions was fixed.
- For an unknown reason, using NTFS-3G drivers rather than native kernel drivers seems to resolve the issue.
- The kernel was updated to Linux 2.6.22.4.
- Some more network and S-ATA/SCSI drivers have been compiled.

Scrinchy 0.15

Scrinchy 0.15

Scrinchy is a tiny HTTP multitasking webserver. more>>
Scrinchy is a tiny HTTP multitasking webserver that I wrote for my own purposes, but which is also a fitting response to the now fairly bloated Apache.
Its name derives from an obscure English verb "to scrinch" which generally means to willfully compress a thing which is not very large into a smaller size. For instance "to scrinch your eyes". This is apt, because Scrinchy is a project where the goal is constantly to make it smaller but yet as feature-rich as possible.
Scrinchy is capable of serving HTML, JPG, GIF, TIFF, PNG, and various other file types, as well as running Perl, Python and (theoretically) PHP scripts externally and passing GET params and cookies to those scripts. At this stage, Scrinchy does not support POST but it will later.
Scrinchy also has some anti-hacker features, described in the README file. The more I use the server myself and observe all the hair-brained things attackers and infected computers do, the more amusement I find in squashing their pitiful efforts.
Enhancements:
- This release improves the internal stack-based interpretive language.

WaveTools 1.0

WaveTools 1.0

WaveTools is a library consisting of 8 programs for manipulating mono WAV Files. more>>
WaveTools is a library consisting of 8 programs for manipulating mono WAV Files which I have written for an audiology project at the Technical University of Vienna some years ago as a toolbox for generating and preprocessing small test samples, so this is probably not for making music with (unless youre doing some real hardcore Techno), but if you want to write your own effect filters or sound analysis tools and dont want to mess around with format conversions or standard input filters, or if you just want to arrange some WAVs for your voice modem, you might find this useful.
WaveTools have been developed under Linux/gcc, but should compile on any platform which has an ANSI C compiler (except wview, of course).
Enhancements:
- Dropped binary DOS support (due to lack of DOS compiler; you can still try to build your own DOS binaries if you have a sufficiently old watcom compiler available.)
- fixed bug in wcat.c when converting to lower sample rates
- Dokumentation is now in PDF Format (still German only, though)
- If you have trouble compiling, try deleting the wview entry from the exec: tag in the Makefile. Unless youre into computer archeology, svgalib should be really obsolete by now.
