Web Ping is a program for testing your internet connection.

Web Ping is a simple application to test an internet connection to a perticular site. I created this application after my work moved locations and half our network stayed in the old building and the other half moved with us to the new location.

A flaky (significant point) VPN was set up to keep the two connected. Since a couple of the unmoved servers were of interest to me, I keeped checking to see if they were still accessable with the ping command before doing any serious work with them.

A quick and pathetic Google resulted in no other program that meet my needes, so I wrote one.

Insted of doing an actual network ping, Web Ping tests a connection by downloading a web page on a given server. The size of the page and time are stored in memory and the times are graphed. In this way, sites that block network a ping can still be tracked.

Web Ping also keeps track of the largest and smallest download times per session and also tracks the max and min values currently on the graph. Times of interest are graphed in a color which represents if it is a max or a min. (see figure one). The history tab also lists all the max values as they have been recevied.

A running average is also calculated with each download. The files downloaded are not processed or stored in any way. This prevents any security problems that can normaly happen in a web browser enviroment. The only two pecies of information retained about a downloaded file is the size and time.

Usage:

There are two ways to use Web Ping, GUI or CLI mode. The simplest of the two modes is CLI. Web Ping can be started in CLI mode by passing a url to the jar file in a command line interface like this: "java -jar WebPing.jar http://localhost". Web Ping will automaticly start getting statistics on the requested url, printing results to the screnn.

To quite, press q and then then ENTER key. CLI allows the user to Most people will probably want to use the GUI mode which has a history graph and allows the user to start and stop the session.

The best way to run Web Ping is in GUI mode. GUI mode allows the user start and stop the ping process at will and to change the site that is pinged. Users can also see more information about about the history of the pings and view max values and min values easily. There are three tabs on the top of the page, the first is the application, second is the history list, and the last give information about the application.

web-chpass utility allows users to change their account password through the web. This package was written with security and flexibility as the primary concerns--and in that order. It runs on systems that use PAM to manage user authorizations. At this time, it has been tested only on Red Hat 7.2.
The web pages produced are completely customizable. The chpass.cgi utility contains no HTML. Instead, web pages are produced from an external template.
"Bad password" checking can be optionally enabled. As distributed, the web page template offers the user a choice, with these checks enabled by default.

Pagetool provides a CMS (content management system) that allows people with limited technical skills to contribute to a website.
What is Pagetool?
Pagetool is a program that allows people with limited technical skills to modify and contribute to an organizations web site via a web browser. There is no need for using an FTP program or for purchasing html editing programs like Dream Weaver or Go Live!. Furthermore, for basic site maintenance, no knowledge of HTML is necessary.
How Does it Work?
Pagetool stores all web pages in a database. To the average web user, it looks and acts like a typical web site. However, it you go to the special admin section and enter the correct username and password, you will be able to see a list of web pages on your site. By selecting a web page and clicking "edit" you will be able to change the content of that particular page.
Was Pagetool designed specifically for Nonprofits?
Media Jumpstart launched the Pagetool project (as a branch of myphpPagetool) with the express goal of making a web content management system appropriate for nonprofit organizations. As the project developed, however, it has attracted diverse developers who have been adapting it to work with for profit organizations, consultants, and universities, making it useful to a wide spectrum of organizations. The Pagetool project has since been taken over by Dave Guerin.
Enhancements:

- Added an if !isset for $pt_action in pt_admin.inc. Maybe Pagetool 1.x will run with E_ALL error reporting someday :-)
- The new profile and edit profile admin screens now have valid html, plus a note about changing the colspan values for the header td and footer td thats required if theres no news bar.

Mobile Web Proxy is a (CGI) tool to make more Web pages available from some mobile devices (cell phone Web browsers, etc.).
When I began using my cell phones mobile web browser, one of the things I realized was that there were a lot of web pages that my cell phones web browser simply wouldnt let me see. My shiny new Motorola Razr from T-Mobile, for many pages, would display an error message like "413: Page cannot be displayed." It happened annoyingly often; browsing the web from my cell phone was a lot like trying to read a book or a magazine with large chunks simply ripped out. And when I tried troubleshooting, I might have missed something, but it seemed like a big problem without an easily available solution.
So I tried to provide my own solution. I made a proxy that would present webpages for the mobile web so that they would display in a way that would work for my cell phones web browser. Technologies include paging, tag cleaning, and optional caching to improve performance, but without getting into technical details, this means that I can access some pages on the web that I couldnt access earlier.
Enhancements:
- A bug that caused the script to spuriously report 404 errors was fixed.
- A smaller default page size was set so that tag-rich pages would be rendered in a way more likely to be displayable on mobile Web browsers.

webdiff is a powerful web page update checker. You can choose between different methods (diff, size, date, md5sum, regexp) it should check for.

webdiff will only print the URIs of web pages that changed, so that its output can easily be used by further scripts (such as wget or mail).
