Dirty Water 0.1.0

Dirty Water 0.1.0

Dirty Water project is a custom MUD server. more>>
Dirty Water project is a custom MUD server.
Dirty Water is an original MUD server/engine written in OCaml.
It is designed to be much more advanced and realistic and to encourage role playing more than Diku-style MUDs.
We are using a higher level language which we feel will yield a code-base that is significantly easier to modify, maintain and understand.
We felt that OCaml would make a good choice for this language, though we have since decided Scheme would be a better choice.
All of our code is licensed under the GNU GPL.
Enhancements:
- can pick up items
- can view inventory
- you can specify 1st, 2nd, etc when refering to items
- cant pick up buildings or yourself
- dont see yourself in room descriptions

Deep-Water Linux 0.4.0 Beta01

Deep-Water Linux 0.4.0 Beta01

Deep-Water Linux is a half minimalist software distribution using the linux kernel. more>>
Deep-Water Linux is a half minimalist software distribution using the linux kernel released under the terms of the gnu gpl license v2.

Originaly i designed it for myself to make my work a bit easyer - it was a few years ago when there were not so many live distributions that fit my needs - i needed something more than "minimal" but not something that would need more than 2-3 minutes to load requireing hardware, that i couldnt afford.

So i designed a small system for myself that i could use whenever i broke my "harddisk" distro so much, that it was impossible to repair the system from inside of it. I started using the system as a sort of a rescue system and i installed it on my computer as a sort of a neighbour to other systems that i have used.

Then i thought other people might find it interesting, if not as a whole, than atleast a part of it, or maybe they might like to use it for some "rescue job". I was messing arround with xlib and tcl/tk, so i added some programs to ease a users life - like a panel, icons, file-manager. You see, i thought it is stupid to just copy someones work and then re-distribute it in my name - i hate the kind of distros where the "developers" just change the background of some well known distro and then give it a new name.

In my distro you wont find so many tools, it evean might not work good, it evean can make you angry "make you laugh, or cry", but atleast i can say, that many things in this system is my work - i programmed deep-panel/ deep-view/ deep-icons/ made a new hackedbox"a hack of blackbox"/designed the startup and many other things.

There are 2 version-types of the distro - the first copying the whole system in the memmory and the second copying only a part of itself - the first is for people with older hardware with little memmory and the second for boxes with memmory atleast 128MB. I know that there are many systems out there that are better and im not saying that its good to use this distro on an everyday basis, but if you find some inspiration in it, or if you use it as a rescue system, or want to use deep-view to browse/edit some files or to display image galleries and your "real" system is broke, if you find any use of it than im happy enough.

wxSand 4

wxSand 4

wxSand is a Falling Sand Game. more>>
wxSand is a Falling Sand Game is a particle toy - you can play with different elements, explore how they interact, and, in some reimplementations, make your own elements.

It is great fun to make interactive structures, ecosystems, and toys in a Falling Sand Game.

First of all, mad props go out to the original creator of this game. Great idea. I only wish I could read Japanese... Heres a link to the original, or at least as close to the original as I can find (Again, without knowing how to read Japanese.)
http://ishi.blog2.fc2.com/blog-entry-158.html

Having wasted hours of productivity on the Java verison of the Falling Sand Game, I began to think of improvements that could be made from the original. No source was available for the original, and Java isnt my choice programming language, that I decided to start de novo with C/C++ and the cross-platform wxWidgets.

(I leave it to you Java fans out there to make your own improved Falling Sand Game.)

I tend to feel that The Falling Sand Game should be more of a Zen experience than anything else. I also belive that the game should be as cyclic as possible, so that environments can run and evolve for long periods of time. Finally, I realized the close connection of The Sand Game with the game of Life: Whereby, with a few very simple rules, and some starting conditions, you can create a very unpredictable outcome.
Of course, the original is pretty sweet. So Ive make a version with my own rules, and one with the original rules, and then one with the original rules plus some neat extra items. I have implemented many, many more interactions and elements than the original version. Discover them as you play.

Version 2 has no fire (Versions 3 & 4 do, though.) I dont like how easy it is to destroy everything. It also doesnt have any free-moving characters. I feel they distract attention from the evolution of the field.

Originally, I didnt want to make this Open Source. I think it takes away from the mysticism of the game. Those of you that are so inclined should be able to see the simple algorithm. Note the close connection with the game of Life. Also note the impossible situations, like unequalized water levels. These arent shortcomings of the game, but instead interesting artifacts of the rules of this alternate reality!

Windstille 0.3.0

Windstille 0.3.0

Windstille is a classic jump and shoot action game. more>>
Windstille project is a classic jump and shoot action game.
Windstille is an old-school 2D site-scrolling shootem up game, similar to Turrican or Metroid with some influence from Another World and Flashback.
In Windstille the player will be placed in a foreign alien world and has to find its way back into safety. Special focus will be on getting the foreign world and the players character itself believable.
Exploration will be more needed than plain shoot action, even so the players-character will be equipped with a multifunctional war-suit, so he will be far from defenseless.
The game will have slow placed explore and seak sequences as well as more rough section that will feature fast shoot and jump action. The game world should be presented in a consistent state, enemies once destroyed should not respawn automatically.
The player is free to go forward and backward in the world as long as the level design allows it.
Enhancements:
- 3D sprites, giving fluent animation and the ability to zoom in without pixelation in the characters
- multi color light effects for added athmospheric effect as well as new gameplay posibilities

KAdventure is a nice and simple adventure game providing fun and challenging puzzles. The player is presented with a 2D view from above a playing field, where he has to move his player to the exit.
To get to the exit he has to overcome several obstacles, like walls, moving blocks, water and creatures.
I encourage anyone to create new levels using the new level editor, or even new objects and artwork.
Finally, if someone manages to create a Windows port hes welcome as well.
Version restrictions:
- Clicking Save Level immediately saves the current level, and will overwrite the old level without warning.
- Saving levels only works when the level files are writable. So you should have installed in your home directory or made the directory with the levels writable. No warning is given when saving fails.
- Pressing +/- to change the resolution has some redrawing issues in Edit mode. You can minimize and re-open the window to get a correct redraw.
- If you have changed the size of a level, you need to save and reload the level for the new size to take effect.
Enhancements:
- Fixed the crash when a mine exploded.
- Some small fixes and tidying up.
- Added 2 small new levels.

cadaverserver 1.0.1

cadaverserver 1.0.1

cadaverserver project is a realtime artificial intelligence battle game server. more>>
cadaverserver project is a realtime artificial intelligence battle game server.

Cadaver is a simulated world of cyborgs and nature in realtime. The battlefield consists of forests, grain, water, grass, carcass (of course) and lots of other things.

The game server manages the game and the rules. You start a server and connect some clients. The clients communicate with the server using a very primitive protocol. They can order cyborgs to harvest grain, attack enemies or cut forest.

The game is not intended to be played by humans! Instead the idea is that you write artificial intelligence clients to beat the other artificial intelligences.

The server is a program that runs on the console.
It manages the rules of the game in realtime.

It listens on TCP port 8932.

You could connect to it by entering:

# telnet localhost 8932

You will get the Initialisation message.
You can now enter commands.

Perilar 0.4

Perilar 0.4

Perilar is a fast, simple computer role-playing game (CRPG), with an epic quest! more>>
Perilar is a simple, fast computer role-playing game (CRPG), with an epic quest! You will cross a vast monster-infested wilderness to the dungeons to recover ancient weapons and artifacts, then to the dragons lairs, then face the final challenge...

Version 0.4 is a beta release for designing the gameplay, and future versions will have additional art, music, and sound effects.

Save Game Warning: Savefiles from previous versions will not be compatible with later versions until 1.0. At that point, Ill make sure they are always forward-compatible, but it hampers rapid development until then. Sorry for the trouble, but at least youll get to see the new world features in each version!

History

Over a thousand years ago, the world was a peaceful but primitive place. Humans lived in tribal societies, rarely warred, and there were few dangerous animals and no monsters. Your kingdom, Perilar, was one of the safest, as it was protected by four great dragons of Air, Earth, Fire, and Water.

Where the Vampire King came from, nobody knows. He appeared in the far north and turned peaceful farmers into berserker raiders. After conquering the island kingdom of Oradon, he turned their druids to necromancy, raising armies of the dead to war on the next kingdom. Kingdom after kingdom fell, and in each, the people were slain and raised as undead warriors to assault the next kingdom.

As the army of the undead approached Perilar, the dragons closed the kingdom off with a magical seal. For a thousand years, the kingdom has been trapped inside, and none know the fate of the outside world.

In recent times, the seals have begun to fail. The Dragons have not been seen in centuries. Undead and monsters march in towards the castle of King Phalan and the village of Perilar, home to the last free people in the world. A great hero must do something about this, and you are determined to be that hero!

RogueScanner 2.2.0.0

RogueScanner 2.2.0.0

RogueScanner is an open-source vulnerability management tool. more>>
RogueScanner project is an open-source vulnerability management tool that is used to gain greater network visibility to enable you to quickly identify and remove rogue wireless devices that may provide a back door to access your critical data and infrastructure.

Considering that rogue access points and peers represent a major threat to data integrity, RogueScanner is a valuable tool that you can start using today at no cost.
More than 300 companies manufacture access points, and there are more than 10,000 different models of network infrastructure.

Companies thus face a major challenge in maintaining a system to track and identify all potential rogue wireless devices and in continually scanning the network to identify them. To address this challenge, Network Chemistry has made an open-source product available to help organizations begin to immediately scan their networks.

RogueScanner is available for use at no charge by organizations looking for a tool focused on device identification and rogue detection. RogueScanner leverages the Collaborative Device Classification system to automatically lookup and identify the device type and its identity in real time.

Whats New in This Release:

+ Reserved VLANs (1000 < VLAN < 1025) on Cisco devices are not queried.
+ Capture packets to trace.pcap and perform a hexdump of them in the log file
if DEBUG_PACKET is set (debug=0x01 or better).
+ Promiscuous mode testing is disabled unless ENABLE_SCAN_PROMISC is defined.
+ The switch/network scanning interval was bumped up to 24 hours.
+ Attribute data in the EvidenceMap wasnt being printed out correctly (always showed
up as "true") when issuing "device detail" commands in the CLI.
+ Ignore MACs in the bridge table that arent "learned" when querying switches.
+ *TAnalysisManager::LookupOrCreateDevice() will now refuse to create devices outside
"home_net" ranges, thus the IPs wont be scanned even if they are passively observed
on the local network.
+ Ignore our MAC address if a switch reports it to us.
+ Log timestamps are now in GMT.
+ Prevent duplicates in the "udp_ports" evidence by using AddEvidence() instead of
inserting into the EvidenceMap directly.
+ Manually invoke Rubys garbage collector after scanning a switch/router.
+ Added "packet queue size" CLI command to show how many packets are in the
AnalysisManagers packet queue.
+ If a device fails to be classified the classification will be retried automatically
in one minute.
+ All communication with the classification server is performed in a separate thread.
+ Keep ARP scanning from starving other threads for CPU time by introducing a delay
in addition to any that is added by bandwidth throttling.
+ Replaced internal ARP and routing table on WIN32 systems with functions from the
IPHelper API.
+ Added "device list size" command to show how many devices have been found.
+ Add read community strings from configured infrastructure devices to the list
of strings used when probing unknown devices.
+ Discard deferred scans if another scan of the same type is already deferred for
a device.
+ Added reporting of DHCP data.
+ If no scans are pending against a device, but a new port is found open then
submit the devices evidence.
+ Devices are re-scanned whenever a re-occuring ARP/Ping scan is launched.
+ Added "deferred list" CLI command to show scans that have been deferred.
+ Added "sniffer status" CLI command to report the number of packets that
have been received and dropped.
+ If we discover the IP of a device that we only knew about the MAC address for,
then issue scans against it.
+ If we see the MAC address associated with an IP change, then re-scan it since
its likely to be a different device.

Q4W 0.1 Beta1

Q4W 0.1 Beta1

Q4W stands for Quake 4 World, an obvious reference to QuakeWorld. more>>
The Q4W Mod project came in our minds a few days after the release of Quake 4. Out of the box, the whole gameplay wasnt very exciting for a part of the french Q3 community. After some chatting, we found out that we were many looking for the same kind of game and also ready to spend some time to tweak it in that way.

Q4W stands for Quake 4 World, an obvious reference to QuakeWorld. So, what is it ? A return in the past to make Q4 feels like QW ? Yes and no, as we want to bring back some features of QW, but not only :

Q3 and Q4 have also great features we still want to find.

The whole idea is to have a game really fast, where movements can make the decision in a fight, and not only aiming. Where controlling a specific zone is really important, with precious items. A game where base weapons are not almost equals to the bigger ones. A game offering best of both world weapons, without making one too much powerful in a defensive situation.

We offer anticipation weapons and hitscan weapons, and they hurt a lot. Theyll hurt you bad. Its about domination, its not really newbie friendly, because spawnfrags are back. Our goal is to offer to the Quake Community a different kind of game, tricks, base on speed, fun and what we think a better gameplay.

Controlling the game is really important, a situation can turnover very quickly. No minimum time for respawn and a maximum of 2", respawn at 110/0 with only a MG with not much ammunitions... youll learn how to win the hard way.

The weapons

In simple words, you have a new Rocket Launcher firing at a greater rate (.75), with faster rockets (1100), doing more damage (110). You also have a Lightning Gun doing a great amount of damage on short range fight, way more than Q3 and Q4, but a bit less than QW (250 damage/s) and you still have the RailGun. But its reload time is slower (1.8") and you have less slugs (5), so camping with it is shorten.

Oh yes, the hitbox is smaller. Other weapons are a bit changed also, ShotGun reloads slower, Grenade Launcher is basically the same but doing more damage (110) and the base weapon is no more a big threat (5 damage per bullet).

The armors

With so much powerful weapons, you need to gain a good protection if you want to live long. There again, one armor type is clearly the choice : Red Armor. It gives you 200 armor points and will protects you by 80%. Oh, did I mention that armor points do not tickdown ? Then you have the Yellow Armor, giving 100 armor points, and protecting less than the RA. And at the bottom, the Green Armor, a new one for Q4, giving 50 armor points and again less protection.

So the whole armor system is new, not only because of the value of the armors and their protection level, but also because you are stick to the type of armor you have, and if you can always pick a better armor, if you need to take a weaker one, youll have to have less than 25% left of your armor type value (for example, if you pick a RA, you will need to have less than 50 armor points left to grab a YA).

Read me clearly : an armor sets you to its value, its not an add. If you have 75 armor points, taking a YA (supposing you can) will set you at 100 armor points. Shards are still there, and they inherit your armor type when you grab them. The maximum armor you can have is 200. Of course, to take an armor you need to have less than its value, as well as the correct rights (explained above).

Of course, RA spawns less often than YA and GA. On team games if you lose RA control, I recommend to check for the Quad. It respawns sooner (every 90") and deserve its name : four times the damage.

The beauty of movements

You move faster in Q4W than in vQ4. Not only your speed has been increased, but also all the movements that make Quake what it is are there : straffe-jump of course, circle-jump, ramp-jump, slide-jump but we bring back also bunny-hop and multiple-jump (double-jump is the most famous). Air control is greater also, so you can make very nice moves and being a bit less an easy target while in the air. Thats a lot of work on the physics of the game, but its worth the effort.

On a fun side, we also offer the ability to run over the water at a certain speed, with some restriction in movements, and that could really be an upside for differents type of game (CTF and Defrag seem the more obvious).

To increase again the speed of the game, and make movements less predictable, we make the teleporters able to keep your speed and directions vector through them : so, yes, you can Rocket Jump through teleporters ! And they contribute to increase your speed, making a little push on you.

The more you are, the more fun you have

Arent you tired of fighting one on one ? Or team A versus Team B ? Why should we stick to 2 teams ? Q4W bring the ability to play at up to 8 different teams on the same game ! What about a TDM game with three teams ? How about a 2v2v2v2 game, heh ? Its up to you.

Standard look and feel

Of course, brightskins are in standard (white, pink, blue, red, yellow, orange, green and purple), HUD is new with a weapons control bar to know at any time what weapon you have in stock, and how many ammunitions left in it. Simple items are also provided, fov is unlocked, admin and team control is provided, game statistics, timer works in the same way than Q3, overtime has been corrected, etc, etc.
