Warehouse project is a shoving boxes game. more>>
Warehouse project is a shoving boxes game.

Warehouse is a puzzle/strategy game that involves shoving boxes around a crowded warehouse.

It is loosly based off of the classic "Shove It" game for the SEGA Genisis (Actually much of the current level design is from my memories of playing that game).

Power*Architect 0.9.7

Power*Architect 0.9.7

Power*Architect is an innovative Java-based data modeling tool geared specifically for Data Warehouse and Data Mart design. more>>
Data Architects, DBAs, Analysts and Designers rely on Data Modeling tools to facilitate and simplify their data Modeling efforts, while maximizing the use of their resources. The Power*Architect allows these busy highly technical resources to perform this most intricate part of their job in a fraction of the time.
Power*Architect project is an innovative Java-based data modeling tool geared specifically for Data Warehouse and Data Mart design. It allows the designer to open multiple concurrent source Database connections, create and explore profiles of the source data, drag and drop source schemas, tables and columns into the data modeling playpen, and forward engineer the resultant target database and its associated ETL template.
Main features:
- Access any JDBC or ODBC accessible source database
- Quickly create profiles of source data, including information about the size of the data in each column, maximum and minimum values, frequency distribution of values in a column, and more.
- Profile information is saved with the project, so profile data can still be used to aid off-site design sessions when it is not possible to access the source databases.
- Design the target database Data Model (Data Warehouse)
- Compare the database structure of any two databases highlighting the structural differences and generating the required DDL to synchronize
- Compare the Data Model data structures to an existing target database
- Save a snapshot of all source systems data structures in the project file, allowing data warehouse designers to evolve their target data model remotely
- Forward engineer to Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and PostgreSQL and more.
- Forward engineer ETL Templates containing source-to-target data mappings
- Invoke ETL Engine to load initial set of data into the target database
- Enable easy centralized installation and updates to many end users (Supports Java WebStart technology).
- The Power*Architect can open multiple source databases concurrently, even if they are from competing database vendors. Another key feature of the Power*Architect, that sets it apart from other data modeling tools, is that it remembers the origin of each column, and is capable of automatically generating the source-to-target data mappings.
- Whether youre building or maintaining your Data Warehouse data model, the Power*Architect will provide you a complete view of all required database structures and will expedite every aspect of your data warehouse design.
- Design your Data Warehouse in a fraction of the time with the Power*Architect.
- We look forward to showing you how!
- The Power*Architect is available now for download! The product is available for free to individuals for personal use. Commercial licensing and support are available at competitive prices. Please call us at 1-866-SQL-POWR to purchase.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a bug that caused corrupt project files to be saved.
- The handling of automatic cascading primary keys in multi-level identifying relationships now works better.
- The profile manager is now even more stable.
- It is now possible to add new database connection types from within the GUI.

Alpha Shooter 0.0.3

Alpha Shooter 0.0.3

Alpha Shooter is a 3D OpenGL first-person shooter game with a sci-fi setting. more>>
Alpha Shooter is a 3D OpenGL first-person shooter game with a sci-fi setting.
Alpha Shooter was born as a project for the Computer Graphics course at the University of Bologna.
The main objective was to develop a very simple 3D game using the OpenGL, GLU and GLUT libraries only (and some creativity). Emphasis was not placed on the game itself, rather on learning how to use the libraries to produce a 3D environment and interact with it; it was thus required to build a suitable scenery using polygonal meshes and quadric surfaces, appropriate textures and materials, lights, and effects.
According to my personal taste I chose a sci-fi setting, trying to reproduce an environment that could remind players of a warehouse or loading area located inside a space ship or space station, like those often seen in movies or commercial videogames (of course I was aware of the limits of my implementation). I focused development on a single room, with an outside view, for ease of development (it was my very first attempt at graphics programming) and because it was enough to make use of a wide set of elements of OpenGL, consistently with the project requirements.
The game I wrote was inspired to the First Person Shooter genre, in which the player can move around in a 3D environment, looking around freely through the eyes of the played character, interacting (in very limited ways) with some of the objects present, shooting crates and barrels and some holographic targets.
I had a lot of fun creating that simple game, so after I got my Masters Degree I decided it would be a waste to just leave it hidden in some obscure directory at home; it is now here, released as Free Software, so that I can keep working on it and improving it, with help from whoever will be interested, in the hope that it will be useful as an example on how to get started in computer graphics and games development.
Enhancements:
- Binary packages were created for all supported operating systems, including a Windows installer, an i386 Debian Linux package, and a PowerPC Mac OS X DMG disk image.
- Additionally, the improved persistent mouse movement mode uses a dynamic mouse cursor that shows direction and speed of rotation, making that movement mode more intuitive and useful.
- Several minor bugs have also been fixed.

StreamCruncher 2.1 RC

StreamCruncher 2.1 RC

StreamCruncher is an Event Processor. more>>
StreamCruncher is an Event Processor. The project supports a language based on SQL which allows you to define Event Processing constructs like Sliding Windows, Time Based Windows, Partitions and Aggregates.
Queries can be written using this language, which are used to monitor streams of incoming Events. StreamCruncher is a multi-threaded Kernel that runs on Java.
Ever since RFID became commercially viable and companies started packaging their entire product line as Business Activity Monitoring Stacks, an old idea that has been around for almost a decade is now seeing the light of day. A handful of Startups have begun turning this Idea of Complex Event Processing (CEP) and Event Stream Processing (ESP) into Commercial grade software. Several people have contributed ideas to this field. The most frequently mentioned name would be Prof. Luckhams. Prof. Widoms contribution to the field is also noteworthy.
Those in a hurry can skip to this section.
Now, back to CEP and ESP. An over-simplified definition would probably look like this - Assume that a System produces "Events" that describe the state of that System at those instants. Slicing and Dicing the "live" Stream of Events (in near real-time) can reveal vital information. Since this information is available on the live data and not stale data, it can be used to look for Warning signs, implement JIT materials sourcing, Automated Trading and other highly nimble systems.
Events from multiple sources can be co-related to reveal information about their interactions and dependencies. CEP and ESP are not exactly the same, but well leave that to the Scholarly Papers to disambiguate. All this does not seem new at all to people whove been working on Control Systems. Data Warehouse specialists and Rule Engine experts might start mumbling something about "Old Wine..".
However, only lately are we seeing generic, off-the-shelf Software focusing on CEP and ESP. Each one of those Products or Projects distinguish themselves in Performance (Real-time, Soft Real-time), Ease of Integration (Features, Mild to Steep Learning Curves, Manageability), Speciality (Automated Trading Platforms) or General purpose stacks etc. Or, perhaps all of them, to varying degrees.
For a Program to continually Slice and Dice an Event Stream and thereby, discern/infer something useful about the state of the System before it goes stale, requires a variety of Technologies to converge. Weve been using SQL to handle Transactional Data stored in Databases, Data Warehouses to analyse Terrabytes of Offline data, Rule Engines to infer from a large collection of constantly changing Facts.
ESP and CEP Systems provide building blocks using which Users can build an intelligent System, with active feedback. All CEP and ESP Systems provide a mechanism by which Queries/Conditions/Criteria can be provided that are constantly evaluated against the Event Stream. Some systems provide drag-n-drop GUIs to specify such "Queries", while some have their own proprietary Query syntax. In essence, they provide a Domain Specific Language to encode such Queries/Rules, a facility to pump Events into the System and a way to channel the Output Stream to do something useful.
Enhancements:
- The pre-filter for input event streams now supports , !=, =, *, /, +, -, "in (..)", "not in (..)", "and", and "or".
- The "in" clause can refer to an SQL sub-query.
- Such sub-queries are cached by the kernel to improve performance.
- An additional property, cacherefresh.threads.num, can be configured to specify the number of sub-query cache processing threads to use.
- Two new test cases have been added to test the new features: H2StartupShutdown3Test and ThreeEventOrderTest.

Hydrate 2.0

Hydrate 2.0

Hydrate is a tool that provides fast, efficient, and error-free transformation of data. more>>
Hydrate is a Java tool that provides for fast efficient and error-free transformation of data between three different representations: relational databases, objects in an object-oriented programming language and extended markup language (XML).
Each of these representations has its strengths and weaknesses as shown in the diagram below; but which should you use as a basis for your application design?
Hydrate relaxes some of the pressure on this decision by providing tools for moving data from one representation to another, guided by a master UML class representation of that data.
- You want to lay a domain object model view over an existing database or set of databases. Hydrate gives you the tools to design that model in UML and map your existing data to that model. Once in the object space, you can perform complex manipulations on the objects, calculate results and save information back to a relational cache for searching or reloading, as well as converting the results to XML for sending to downstream systems or transforming to a readable format for display.
- Your project involves taking various data files fed from external systems that you want to pull into an object model on your server before writing the results down to a fully relational database. You can now respond to requests from external systems by rehydrating the data from its relational form and sending it out as XML documents or transforming those documents to a readable format for display.
- You are building a data warehouse in which you have the broad specifications for the model, but want to provide for flexibility and adaptability for future unpredicted requests. Based on a core data model, Hydrate gives you the tools to create you database schema, and write information to it, but more significantly to subsequently lay a completely different object model perhaps aggregating some of the data over the top of that schema to process it in unforeseen ways.
- You need to integrate data from many different data sources in a highly performant manner. SQL permits you to read a huge data set a row at a time and perform running calculations and filtering on that data. But the performance pressures can lead to code that is highly coupled with the database and what do you do if you need to integrate data from elsewhere in order to complete your calculations? Hydrate permits you to operate in the object space and integrate information from other sources on-the-fly.
Main features:
- To integrate legacy and other data schemas over which you have little control. Map data from many different data sources into a single self-consistent in-memory model. Different parts of the same object, as well as different sub-populations of the same object type can be drawn from different data sources, different schemas and even different database architectures.
- Load, populate and connect up multiple object types from a single query. There is no limit to the number of object types that can be loaded from a single query, or to the complexity of the relationships that can be resolved between them. Objects read from a query are automatically merged into objects already in memory.
- Full control over the SQL that runs against the database (if you need it). Any SQL queries simultaneously from multiple JDBC drivers, even using database specific optimizations, as long as they returns a result set.
- Access and manipulate the same data through the rich and powerful XML toolset. Use the same meta data that describes your objects to easily read from, write to and validate any consistent XML schema. Use XML for display, data transmission or XSLT transformation. Load XML data back into objects.
- Highly optimized performance for reading and writing SQL and XML. Since native types are used and SQL chatter is non-existent, database performance is comparable with doing the mapping by hand. XML reading and writing uses SAX exclusively.

PacketDB 0.01

PacketDB 0.01

PacketDB projects goal is to create a set of workflows that treat tcpdumps/packet captures. more>>
PacketDB projects goal is to create a set of workflows that treat tcpdumps/packet captures as just another sort of data to be loaded into relational structures and manipulated using the well-established methods of relational databases.

The real fun begins after the scripts run and you get to play with that delicious data!

After that ETL phase stabilizes (hopefully), the project would ideally expand into providing tools for discovery and reporting on that data (i.e. data mining and data warehousing). The tables existing for this first phase of the project might be thought of as staging tables for a load up to a datamart or data warehouse.

{Coding}
- Created a ban IP mechanism. Need to do an interface though.
- Added an optional security image for the signup script. Make sure you read the upgrade.txt file on how to update your db.php file to turn this on.
- Added the forums. They sort of work... :)
- Made an adjustment in the players level so that I can create admins later on.
- Adding sorting to the communities list.
- Added company name and email address to the email admin gets when a new player signs up.
- Store Managers have been added to the game. You can hire them, train them if needed (This takes 8 weeks to complete) and assign them to your stores. You can even fire them if you want. They do have a fairly decent effect on your store sales.
- You now get billed 5% of your square footage for electric fees per week.
(Bugs)
- Corrected the link in the footer to the home page of the project. (Bug 1439620)
- Removed 1, 0, l, o, and i from the security image script to avoid confusion.
- Reformatted display numbers to show commas for the thousands place. (Bug 1434685)
- Dealt with the issue of the menu column displaying twice during errors during player signup. I think I got them all. (Bug 1434308)

- The forum was not doing line breaks correctly. Im hoping that this is fixed. (Bug 1440997)
- Fixed the issue with company name not being shown in the webpage after a new company has been created as well as within the email sent to the game admin. Fixed AGAIN! (Bug 1441007)
- Adjusted the size of the email address within the players table. I guess 25 characters isnt enough. Sorry about that. (Bug 1441015)
- Fixed the issue in the viewcommunities page where it was presenting you a link to build a store when there wasnt one available. Fixed this as well in the buildstore.php page. (Bug 1440517)
- For some reason, when you incorrectly created a store that was too large or didnt have enough money, the script would erase the data that it was holding on the store so you always wound up in sector 1. Fixed I think. (Bug 1440734) Still dont know where that one came from as it was something I made sure that worked before the release.
- Fixed a minor bug in the displaycompanies.php file that would list the stores in the incorrect order.
{SQL}
- Upgraded the SQL install file to include the badips, topics, and posts tables.
- Added the first name and last name tables to the file.
- Added the store managers table to the file.
{Upgrading}
- Started a method of upgrading. It might even work.
