Free wait software for linux

WAIT Perl module is a rewrite of the freeWAIS-sf engine in Perl and XS.

The central idea of the system is to provide a framework and the building blocks for any indexing and search system the users might want to build. Obviously the framework limits the class of system which can be build.

Obviously one could implement split via tag. The reason for having two functions is speed. We need to call split for each document when indexing a collection. Therefore speed is essential. On the other hand, tag is called in order to display a single document and may be a little slower. It may care about tagging bold and italic regions. See WAIT::Parse::Nroff how this might decrease performance.

Filter definition

From the Information Retrieval perspective, the hardest part of the system is the filter module. The database administrator defines for each attribute, how the contents should be processed before it is stored in the index. Usually the processing contains steps to restrict the character set, case transformation, splitting to words and transforming to word stems. In WAIT these steps are defined naturally as a pipeline of processing steps. The pipelines are made up by functions in the package WAIT::Filter which is pre-populated by the most common functions but may be extended any time.

The equivalent for a typical freeWAIS-sf processing would be this pipeline:

The function isotr replaces unknown characters by blanks. isolc transforms to lower case. split2 splits into words and removes words shorter than two characters. stop removes the freeWAIS-sf stopwords and Stem applies the Porter algorithm for computing the stem of the words.

The filter definition for a collection defines a set of pipelines for the attributes and modifies the pipelines which should be used for prefix and interval searches.

Several complete working examples come with WAIT in the script directory. It is recommended to follow the pattern of the scripts smakewhatis and sman.

Nightwatch is a build scheduler that can be scheduled to do builds for several build styles, including Maven, Make, and Ant.
The tool is pluggable, so any build style can easily be added. The build results can be published as a Web site, where individual builds can create their own project sites.
For builds generating reports (like Maven), nightwatch can generate trend reports for long term reporting. Notification of the build results can be created.
Enhancements:
- This release adds an improved GUI and notification.
- Note that notification is mainly to be used on Linux systems.
- Solaris users will have to wait for a future upgrade.

Wchange provides a very simple wallpaper changer.

It requires only java runtime environment (JRE) and gconftool-2.

Usage:

java Wchange /home/folder/pictures/ seconds [random]

Where:

/home/folder/pictures/ is the directory where are wallpapers

seconds is how much time the system will wait between wallpaper switching

random (optional) use it only if you want wallpaper random switching

Bandwidth Check is a small utility that helps an administrator measure the available bandwidth. In order to make use of this utility, you will need to turn on the chargen service, which is provided in many inetd implementations.

In order to make use of this utility, you will need to turn on chargen protocol.

To enable chargen on Linux:

infobot is an IRC bot written in Perl 5 which implements a sort of artificial intelligence by learning information ("factoids") from channel discussions and then responding intelligently to queries about this accumulated information.

In the beginning, we had to type URLs out, or, at best, wade through a set of hierarchic bookmarks for a URL. But what about when you dont know what youre looking for? If you just want to name it, and find out where it is? (Of course, archie has done this for years.)

What makes infobots different from a lycos or a set of bookmarks is that he learns by observing, and that you can query him in intuitive ways.

Internet Relay Chat is a set of client and server which use a protocol. People get on and chat in near-real-time; rather than wait for your netnews replies, you can ask a question and get ignored or answered while you wait.

Url has been sitting on the EFNet channel #macintosh, where hes picked up quite a few factoids from the local community*.

Url, purl, and rurl are perl scripts that once ran under sirc. In fact, it would also run under MacPerl and my barebones port of MacSirc. However, I ended up writing a little irc front-end for it of my own because sirc would hang (rather than, say, crash gracefully).

Wayback is an extension which allows you to allows you to check the page you are browsing in the waybackmachine archive.

It will add an entry called "Wayback" or "Wayback" to your contextmenu. Works for links and the current page.

To use the shortcut key:

Press on the right windowskey (not the left) wait for the contextmenu to popup and press y or *.

Wayback * will open the page containing all cached copies of the page without youll be directed to the most recent version.

Bashish is a theme-engine using bash and other POSIX shells to customize nearly all aspects of the terminal: title, colors, prompt, font, background, etc.
BASHISH has a modular design which makes it easy to add features (and it does have a lot) while keeping good performance.
Main features:
- Support the most common terminals.
- Support a common subset of the theme properties of the most common terminals.
- Be transparent for the user, easy to change theme and not interfere with any applications.
- Low latency, the user should not have to wait for the terminal to get themed.
Enhancements:
- This release comes with updates for zsh, fixes for application theming from the commandline, and changes to work properly with old Bashish 1.x configuration files.

Audio::XMMSClient is a Perl interface to the xmms2 music player.

This module provides a perl interface to the xmms2 client library. It currently lacks a good documentation, but the turorial directory provides some nice and well explained examples to get you started for now.
