I like using Amarok for managing my podcasts but I wasnt able to play my video podcasts.

Amarok Video Player adds a PlayVideo/Play menu item to the context menu which runs KMPlayer.

Edit the script to change KMplayer to another video player.

MPEG4IP provides an end-to-end system to explore streaming multimedia. The package includes many existing open source packages and the "glue" to integrate them together. This is a tool for streaming video and audio that is standards-oriented and free from proprietary protocols and extensions.

Provided are a live MPEG-4/H.261/MPEG-2/H.263 MP3/AAC/AMR broadcaster and file recorder, command line utilities such as an MP4 file creator and hinter, and an player that can both stream and playback from local file.

Our development is focused on the Linux platform, and has been ported to Windows, Solaris, FreeBSD, BSD/OS and Mac OS X, but it should be relatively straight-forward to use on other platforms. Many of the included packages are multi-platform already. Mp4live only works on Linux.

This code is not intended for end users, and does not contain executables. Please read all the legal information to determine if it is suitable for you.

Streaming capability:
RTSP, SDP, RTP (rfc 3551 for raw audio, 2250 for mpeg1/2 audio and video, 3016 for mpeg4 video, 3119 for mp3, 3640 for aac/celp audio, 3267 for AMR octet-aligned only, 3984 for h.264), mpeg2 transport streams (mpeg2 video, mp3 and ac3 audio), both multicast and streaming.
Supports http fetch of sdp files.

Audio should be able to convert channels and format to match any hardware, but not frequency.

IsmaCryp 1.0 specification is supported for local playback and streaming playback.

cd player is a really small cd player for Linux with a curses-like user interface.
Main features:
- mcdp is a small (maybe the smallest) cd-player for _linux_
- it compiles/runs out off the box
- it can be compiled against dietlibc (~16kb static!)
- working play methods: reapeat cd, repeat track and intro
- since version 0.3a, minimal cddb title download is also included

Universal Module Player or UModPlayer, is a audio module "tool-chain", providing you functions to work with modules like playing, exporting, getting information, and more.
Universal Module Player works in UNIX-like platforms, including Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Solaris...
It uses the Custom LibModPlug audio library, an improved version of the well-known LibModPlug library, supporting more than 20 formats and giving you high playing quality. It uses LibSDL to handle multiplatform sound support.
Main features:
- You can play the supported formats and seek to any order in the song. You have pause, timer, display, and other standard features.
- You can view the pattern notes while playing.
- You can specify noise reduction, megabass, surround, reverb sound options specifying the grade and the delay of most of the options.

Exporting Formats
You can export or convert any of the above formats to the following file types:

Enhancements:
- Buffer length fixes.
- Playlist commands were a pain. Now we use the first letter of the command name. Also, pressing ENTER does not quit, the user has to explicitly specify to quit pressing q
- Hopefully fixed AIFF exporting bug.
- New section in the README about LibAo configuration, and some misc. rearrangements.

aeon is a music player that is meant to look nice and have an interface that is as easy to use as possible.

In contrast to BMPx it is entirely library based, which means you cant add individual files to it, but you have rather to add them to the library beforehand.

You can only play files from the library (akin to RhythmBox/iTunes).

YOLK XMMS PLAYER is a Xmms player control SuperKaramba theme.
I realized that Aqua is required in most desktop palletes.
It supports:

Ambisonics Player is a simple player for ambisonics files. Ambisonics Player is programmed in Java, which means that (in theory) should be able to run on all platforms that java runs on. Java-sound must also be implemented on the platform.
It has been developed on Windows XP running Java 1.5, and also tested on linux 64-bit system (Gentoo AMD64) using sun-jdk-1.5.0.03. So these combinations should be fine. I dont think it works with earlier java-versions than 1.5, atleast not very good.
Main features:
- Plays 1.,2. and 3. order soundfiles in B-format.
- Files in wav,aiff,flac and ogg format supported (ogg-files caneven be streamed).
- Floating point support (for WAV-files only).
- Decode ambisonics to speaker-feeds or binaural stereo files by using HRTF and decode to virtual speaker-array.
- Play directly to soundcard outputs or save to file.
