Versatile Encoder allows you to encode your own videos into good quality mpeg4 or h264. The input can be a sequence of files (as generated by blender), a file (if you want to recompress something) or a DVD/VCD (if you need to backup some movie).

This piece of software tries to guess good defaults and to help the user in his choices. It works at least under Windows and Linux, the coding platform is Linux.

It should work without a hassle under all BSD variants and probably under MacOSX too, report me if you get it working somewhere else.

Versatile Cursors for GNUemacs 1.09

Versatile Cursors for GNUemacs 1.09

Versatile Cursors for GNUemacs is a set of emacs commands managing an more>>
Versatile Cursors for GNUemacs is a set of emacs commands managing an "item" cursor (e.g. a word, expression, sentence, or defun).
Versatile Cursors for GNUemacs quickly re-assigns the cursor keys between these as needed. Built on this are high-level actions such as converting code blocks to separate functions.
This provides elegant and concise editing, and is pedal- and voice-friendly.
Main features:
- A block (or region) cursor, with motion and text selection by semantically significant units e.g. statements, statement parts, sentences, phrases, table rows and cells
- Editing in terms of these (e.g. ``Make the selected code conditional or ``Delete the selected text)
- Easy access to these through flexible, dynamic, rebinding of the arrow keys and others, with easy ways to navigate the space of possible navigation spaces
- High-level editing operations such as:
- Converting an expression to a local variable initialized to that value
- Converting a block of code to a procedure/function, working out automatically what parameters are required
- Means to access these (and other) navigation and editing commands through a narrow-channel interface such as footswitches (suitable for disability access, including RSI)
- Voice access setup for use with emacs-vr-mode
Enhancements:
- Mostly bug fixes, including a long-standing one for the mode changing wrongly on coming out of the minibuffer.

Ethloop

Ethloop

Ethloop is very simple and versatile packet generator and measurer which I use to test HTB qdisc. more>>
Ethloop is very simple and versatile packet generator and measurer which I use to test HTB qdisc. It is developement tool and you take it as such. It accepts controling program at stdin, executing it and producing flow rate table at stdout.

The generated rate is output on interface(s) selected in program and data are recieved on all interfaces in a system. You sometimes need to set promisc flag on recieving interfaces.
Generated packets are ethernet frames with protocol set to ETH_P_CUST so that you can safely inject them into existing LANs. MAC addresses are set to MACs of sending/recieving interface (may be the same).

The controling program is line based text file. Each line has fixed format and comment lines behins with #. The format of a line is:
5000 R 2 4500000

Number of spaces is optional and tabs can be used. Input is parsed by sscanf "%u %c %u %n". The first number is time in miliseconds from program start. The second character determines operation to do. Third number is flow id (see below) and remainder of line is operation dependent. However the remainder can be text or number and numbers are allowed in decimal or hex (if starting with 0x). Number can end with k to multiply it by 1024.

The line above means: at time 5sec set rate of flow 2 to 4.5 MBps. Lines are first read into struct progdata in memory (performance reasons) and should be in increasing time order. Ethloop performs no sorting by time so be carefull about it. Each line is executed at its time and can change ongoing traffic generators.

Dstat 0.6.6

Dstat 0.6.6

Dstat is a versatile replacement for vmstat, iostat, and ifstat. more>>
Dstat project is a versatile replacement for iostat, vmstat and ifstat. Dstat overcomes some of the limitations and adds some extra features.
Dstat allows you to view all of your system resources instantly, you can eg. compare disk usage in combination with interrupts from your IDE controller, or compare the network bandwidth numbers directly with the disk throughput (in the same interval).
Dstat also cleverly gives you the most detailed information in columns and clearly indicates in what magnitude and unit the output is displayed. Less confusion, less mistakes.
Dstat is also unique in letting you aggregate block device throughput for a certain diskset or network bandwidth for a group of interfaces, ie. you can see the throughput for all the block devices that make up a single filesystem or storage system.
You can customize your dstat output from /etc/dstat.conf and you can write your own dstat modules to plug into the dstat output.
Dstats output by default is optimized for being interpreted by humans in real-time, however the new CSV output allows you to store CSV output to a file to be imported later into Gnumeric or Excel to generate graphs.
Main features:
- Combines vmstat, iostat and ifstat information (in exactly the same timeframe)
- Modular design
- Enable/order counters as they make most sense during analysis/troubleshooting
- Easy to extend, add your own counters (please contribute those)
- Can summarize grouped block devices and see total numbers
- Can show interrupts per device
- Very accurate timeframes, no timeshifts when system is stressed
- Shows exact units and limits conversion mistakes
- Indicate different units with different colors
- Show intermediate results when delay > 1
- Written in python so easily extendable for the task at hand
- Allows to export CSV output
- CSV output can be imported in Gnumeric and Excel to make graphs

Manitou-Mail 0.9.7

Manitou-Mail 0.9.7

Manitou-Mail is a 3-part database-driven email system. more>>
Manitou-Mail is an open source database-driven mail user-agent and associated utilities. Manitou-Mail project provides a framework and programs for storing, exposing, and managing mail as organized data in a PostgreSQL database. It can be viewed as a versatile alternative to an imap-aware client using imap server storage.
Companies or organizations that use organization-wide mailboxes such as info, support, sales... and need to share the work between the people processing them, monitor and analyze the flow of messages, or even hook their other databases to the messaging system.
Experienced personal users that are willing to put a database at the center of their mail architecture, thus getting powerful retrieval capabilities, extended categorizing of messages, open representation of the mail as structured data.
The user interface runs on Unix/X11 and MS-Windows and is connected to the database, not the mail system. An independant Perl daemon process, controllable by an administrator, is responsible for fetching and sending the mail.
Enhancements:
- This release offers a revamped full text search engine, a new online help system using Qt assistant, modularized Perl code for the mail-database exchanger, along with a number of small bugfixes and enhancements.
- Also, the user interface now compiles on Solaris and BSD-based systems.

NetChat 0.01

NetChat 0.01

NetChat is a very versatile tool for layer 5 protocols. more>>
NetChat is a combination of NetCat and ppps "chat", put on steroids for high performance. It is meant as a network exercise tool.

Using simple "say this, expect this reply" scripts, NetChat can be made to easilly speak most text-based protocols (such as SMTP, HTTP, POP3 etc.), and many binary protocols, very easilly.

In addition to the above, NetChat is built to perform a large number of concurrent connections. This makes NetChat an ideal network protocol stress-test tool.

Current code is limited to client only and simple send/receive matching. Future extensions will include the ability to work in listen mode, as well as use random elements in the replies and requests.

Perl6::Classes 0.22

Perl6::Classes 0.22

Perl6::Classes project contains first class classes in Perl 5. more>>
Perl6::Classes project contains first class classes in Perl 5.

SYNOPSIS

use Perl6::Classes;

class Composer {
submethod BUILD { print "Giving birth to a new composern" }
method compose { print "Writing some music...n" }
}

class ClassicalComposer is Composer {
method compose { print "Writing some muzak...n" }
}

class ModernComposer is Composer {
submethod BUILD($) { $.length = shift }
method compose() { print((map { int rand 10 } 1..$.length), "n") }
has $.length;
}

my $beethoven = new ClassicalComposer;
my $barber = new ModernComposer 4;
my $mahler = ModernComposer->new(400);

$beethoven->compose; # Writing some muzak...
$barber->compose # 7214
compose $mahler; # 89275869347968374698756....

Perl6::Classes allows the creation of (somewhat) Perl 6-style classes in Perl 5. The following features are currently supported:

subs, methods, and submethods
And their respective scoping rules.

Attributes
Which are available through the has keyword, and look like $.this.

Inheritance
Both single and multiple inheritance are available through the is keyword.

Signatures
Signatures on methods, subs, and submethods are supported, but just the Perl 5 kind.

Data hiding
Using the public, protected, and private traits, you can enforce (run-time) data hiding. This is not supported on attributes, which are always private.

Anonymous classes
That respect closures. You can now nest them inside methods of other classes, even other anonymous ones!

The Perl6::Classes module augments Perls syntax with a new declarator: class. It offers the advantage over Perls standard OO mechanism that it is conceptually easier to see (especially for those from a C++/Java background). It offers the disadvantage, of course, of being less versatile.
