VCDMeta 0.20
VCDMeta is a Perl script which makes creating an easy-to-navigate VCD extremely simple. more>>
VCDMeta is a Perl script which makes creating easy to navigate VCD extremely simple. It takes in a simplified XML documents which simply contains a list of the Videos you want to include and how you want them to be arranged.
From that it will output a XML document suitable for use with vcdimager complete with easy to navigate menus. A text file "0VCDINDX.TXT" is also created which contains the complete contents of the CD for easy navigations when reading the VCD on a computer without VCD menu support.
If images are not provided for the menus it will create the menus for you. When the supplied patch is applied to VCDImager, VCDMeta can generate special easy to use mpeg files for use on a computer complete with an HTML index.
So far VCDMeta has only been testing on Linux but it should work on any Unix like operating system. It should also work on Windows provided the right Perl modules are installed with a little effort. I believe all the required libraries and tools have been ported to Windows, but I have not actually tested VCDMeta on Windows.

LinVDR 0.7
LinVDR is the VDR distribution. more>>
Basically, its an approach to build a small, cut to the bone, ready and easy to install VDR Linux distribution.
LinVDR is a complete, breathing Linux system smaller than 128 MB with a complete digital Video Disk Recorder (VDR) / Personal Video Recorder (PVR) and several plugins -- listed seperately below.
For easy access we installed additionaly the browser frontend VDR Admin and a Samba share for up- and downloading music or DVD images with Windows clients.
The base system is Debian Woody compatible (only compatible, not Debian Woody itself!) with the DVB driver from Convergence and Klaus Schmidingers unbeated Video Disk Recorder Software VDR.
All this Tom has mixed smoothly together, and I made the install system and installation programme -- suitable for normal users without Linux knowledge.

AcidRip 0.14
AcidRip is a Gtk2::Perl application for ripping and encoding DVDs. more>>
AcidRip is a Gtk2::Perl application for ripping and encoding DVDs. It neatly wraps MPlayer and MEncoder, which I think is pretty handy, seeing as MPlayer is by far the best bit of video playing kit around for Linux.
As well as creating a simple Graphical Interface for those scared of getting down and dirty with MEncoders command line interface, It also automates the process in a number of ways:
- Parses DVD into contents tree
- Finds longest title
- Calculate video bitrate for given filesize
- Finds black bands and crops them
- Gives suggestions for improved performance
- Other stuff!
Acidrip is *NOT* an encoding program. It does not do a single bit of encoding by itself. It can not do anything complicated that MEncoder can not do, e.g. output to VCD format etc... Feature requests are always welcome but please be very sure that is within the "jurisdiction" of my program.

Videoconv 1.6
Videoconv is a shell-based frontend to mpeg-tools, transcode, vcdimager, and cdrdao. more>>
Videoconv is a shell-based frontend to mpeg-tools, transcode, vcdimager, and cdrdao. This script converts AVI videos to VCD, SVCD, or DivX, and optionally burns them to CD. The script was designed to allow even unexperienced users to convert videos.
It is only a simple frontend to mjpeg-tools and transcode. But you will need these helpful tools:
mjpegtools (Converting)
transcode (DIVX)
videocodecs you want to use with transcode (divx5, opendivx and xvid)
vcdimager (what may this be for ?)
cdrdao (burning)
Youseful but not mandatory, versions may be higher:
divx4linux
libdvdcss2
libdvdread
libfame
win32-codecs
xvid
Enhancements:
- Quality of the generated videos was improved
- Added support for multipassencoding with divx
- PCB-Menusupport added for VCD und SVCD with vcdxgen
- Changed $ to * for the wildcard in the vcdxgen part. This should fix the error with the vcdmenuecreation
- Added option -x to transcode, because autodection of some avifiles failed
- Some minor bugfixes

Versatile Encoder allows you to encode your own videos into good quality mpeg4 or h264. The input can be a sequence of files (as generated by blender), a file (if you want to recompress something) or a DVD/VCD (if you need to backup some movie).
This piece of software tries to guess good defaults and to help the user in his choices. It works at least under Windows and Linux, the coding platform is Linux.
It should work without a hassle under all BSD variants and probably under MacOSX too, report me if you get it working somewhere else.

MoviX2 0.3.1rc2
MoviX2 is a small but powerful Linux distro aimed at multimedia playback. more>>
MoviX2 is a small Linux distro on CD aimed at playing multimedia: when you boot your PC with the MoviX2 CD the distro should be able to start X-windows and launch gmplayer, the GUI interface to mplayer, so that you are left with a nice user-friendly interface you can control by your mouse.
At that point you can safely remove the MoviX2 CD and play all multimedia files you want: DVD [no zone constraint], VCD, DivX, avi, mpg, mp3, ogg etc.
The idea of MoviX2 came to solve two different problems arising from MoviX.
First of all with MoviX you cannot watch DVDs, mainly because you have no space to copy vob files in a 700MB MoviX CD.
Furthermore, those of you who have already a big archive of multimedia CDs would probably not happy at the idea of "MoviX-ing" them all.
MoviX2 solves both problems: it is not made to be embedded with the movie in a CD but just to be loaded in a PC to transform it in a true MultiMedia Box, so after that you can extract from your CD/DVD-ROM the MoviX2 CD and insert & play every DVD/VCD/CD you have around.
So remember: MoviX2 is not an "improved" version of MoviX nor a replacement for it! It has a totally different philosophy behind, the mplayer binary is compiled with different options and it is used for different purposes.
The name is similar because anyway they are both related to Unix and movies :-)
The exponent on the X of MoviX2 is there to indicate that there are two Xs in MoviX2: one is the X of Unix and the other is the X of XFree86 :-)
