UTF8Script 1.0

UTF8Script 1.0

UTF8Script is a binfmt_misc plugin for UTF-8 scripts. more>>
UTF8Script provides an additional binary format for Linux: scripts that start with a UTF-8 signature (aka BOM), i.e. with the byte sequence xefxbbxbf#!.

This is particularly useful for scripting languages that recognize the BOM, e.g. Python. With Python 2.3 or newer, scripts with the UTF-8 BOM are considered UTF-8 enocded without the need for an addition encoding declaration.

utf8proc 1.1.2

utf8proc 1.1.2

utf8proc is a library for processing UTF-8 encoded Unicode strings. more>>
utf8proc is a library for processing UTF-8 encoded Unicode strings. Unicode normalization, mapping of new line functions (NLF) to standard paragraph and line separators, stripping of default ignorable characters, and case folding are supported.
utf8proc library can be used in C programs, but most of the functionality is also available as a Ruby library. For PostgreSQL, there is an extension providing a function for preparing strings in case-insensitive indices.
Quick start:
For compilation of the C library call "make c-library", for compilation of the ruby library call "make ruby-library" and for compilation of the PostgreSQL extension call "make pgsql-library".
"make all" can be used to build everything, but both ruby and PostgreSQL installations are required in this case.
Enhancements:
- A serious bug was fixed in the data file generator, which caused characters to be treated incorrectly when stripping default ignorable characters or calculating grapheme cluster boundaries.
- Unicode normalization was not affected by this bug.

Unicode Utilities 2.25

Unicode Utilities 2.25

Unicode Utilities project are a set of programs for manipulating and analyzing Unicode text. more>>
Unicode Utilities project are a set of programs for manipulating and analyzing Unicode text. uniname defaults to printing the character offset of each character, its byte offset, its hex code value, its encoding, the glyph itself, and its name. Command line options allow undesired information to be suppressed and the Unicode range to be added.
unidesc reports the character ranges to which different portions of the text belong. unihist generates a histogram of the characters in its input. ExplicateUTF8 is intended for debugging or for learning about Unicode. It determines and explains the validity of a sequence of bytes as a UTF-8 encoding. unirev reverses UTF-8 strings.
Enhancements:
- Adds to unidesc the option -r which causes it to list the ranges detected after reading all input rather than listing them as they are encountered, and adds to uniname the option -B which causes it to ignore characters within the Basic Multilingual Plane.

Quark 3.21

Quark 3.21

Quark is a daemon-like player that uses Xine-lib to play music. more>>
Quark is a daemon-like player that uses Xine-lib to play music. It features a front-end that sits in your system tray. It uses Xine-lib for playing music, and can therefore play any file format supported by Xine.

Quark comes with a couple front-ends to make it more usefuland atractive.
charm-quark - a CLI interface
strange-quark - a GTK System Tray interface

If you want to play files that are not named in UTF-8 encoding and contain non-ascii characters, then you will have to pull some strings to make Quark load them.

Seting environment variables as shown here can make Quark work with them:

export G_BROKEN_FILENAMES=0 # this says that your filenames are not UTF-8
export CHARSET=ISO_8859-1 # this tells Quark what charset your files are using, change its value as appropriate

Alternately, you can rename your files to use UTF-8 characters.

Lingua::RU::Charset 0.02

Lingua::RU::Charset 0.02

Lingua::RU::Charset is a Perl extension for detecting and converting various russian character sets. more>>
Lingua::RU::Charset is a Perl extension for detecting and converting various russian character sets: KOI8-r, Windows-1251, CP866, ISO-8859-5, X-Mac-Cyrillic, russian text in english letters, russian part of Unicode and UTF-8. Lingua::RU::Charset module can be especially useful for computers with broken cyrillic locales (like foreign web hosts).

SYNOPSIS

use Lingua::RU::Charset qw (:CHARSET);
use Lingua::RU::Charset qw (:CONVERT);
use Lingua::RU::Charset qw (:CONVERT :CHARCASE);
use Lingua::RU::Charset qw (any2koi koi2lc koi2uc);

More documentation and examples coming soon...

NOTE

Unfortunately I dont have time to implement the Unicode and UTF-8 subroutines. But I am sure that such functions would be useful for interesting Perl scripts exchanging russian data with Java servlets. So you are welcome to submit some code!

XML::UM 0.01

XML::UM 0.01

XML::UM is a Perl module to convert UTF-8 strings to any encoding supported by XML::Encoding. more>>
XML::UM is a Perl module to convert UTF-8 strings to any encoding supported by XML::Encoding.

SYNOPSIS

use XML::UM;

# Set directory with .xml files that comes with XML::Encoding distribution
# Always include the trailing slash!
$XML::UM::ENCDIR = /home1/enno/perlModules/XML-Encoding-1.01/maps/;

# Create the encoding routine
my $encode = XML::UM::get_encode (
Encoding => ISO-8859-2,
EncodeUnmapped => &XML::UM::encode_unmapped_dec);

# Convert a string from UTF-8 to the specified Encoding
my $encoded_str = $encode->($utf8_str);

# Remove circular references for garbage collection
XML::UM::dispose_encoding (ISO-8859-2);

This module provides methods to convert UTF-8 strings to any XML encoding that XML::Encoding supports. It creates mapping routines from the .xml files that can be found in the maps/ directory in the XML::Encoding distribution. Note that the XML::Encoding distribution does install the .enc files in your perl directory, but not the.xml files they were created from. Thats why you have to specify $ENCDIR as in the SYNOPSIS.

This implementation uses the XML::Encoding class to parse the .xml file and creates a hash that maps UTF-8 characters (each consisting of up to 4 bytes) to their equivalent byte sequence in the specified encoding. Note that large mappings may consume a lot of memory!
Future implementations may parse the .enc files directly, or do the conversions entirely in XS (i.e. C code.)

moftpd 1.2.3

moftpd 1.2.3

moftpd is a powerful ftp server supporting IPv6, TLS, SQL and much more. more>>
moftpd project is a powerful ftp server supporting IPv6, SQL, TLS and much more.
Main features:
RFC compiance
moftpd is a very RFC compliant server. supporting all standard commands and all protocols except SKIPJACK-KEA encryption. Included standards are IPv6, TLS encryption and verification, UTF-8, internationalisation and more.
Powerful authentication
moftpd includes powerful control over authenticating users. In addition to the system users you can specify any number of users in the configuration file, and put permissions on directories and files on a per user bases (or group of users).
You can let users connect to different servers based on the client ip address, and a compliant client can choose server upon connect if theres several available.
moftpd can also authenticate users based on the certificate they present when encrypting the connection. This is useful as you can restrict an account to only be allowed with a specific private key.
There is also support for SQL (currently MySQL only) for specifying users and directory permissions.
Strong permission system
As mentioned above, file and directory permissions can be specified individually for each user and directory. You can choose between a real or faked chroot, and if using the latter, allow specific symlinks out of the chroot to access other directories.
You can also put restrictions on critical files, which must be encrypted and/or signed during the transfer. File and directory permissions can also be fetched from SQL.
Internationalisation
moftpd is fully compliant with the specification of running FTP in different languages. So far, only Swedish is implemented, but more is easy to add.
moftpd always run in UTF-8 as per the RFC, but has functions for converting file names and commands in different encodings to UTF-8.
Good documentaion
An easy to navigate html documentation is included and is also available here on the homepage. For those that prefer text documents that is also available and the HTML code for the options are actually generated from an included XML source.
