pouetChess 0.2
pouetChess is a 3D and open source chess game. more>>
pouetChess is a 3D and open source chess game.
pouetChess is a chess game for Linux with very few and basic dependencies. Moreover pouetChess has an embedded Artificial Intelligence so engines such as GNUChess are not even needed.
... pouetChess was a game I wrote for a project at school (IUP GMI Avignon(french)).
I quickly realized there were very few chess games for Linux so I decided to continue it. Actually I think the juice is worth the squeeze and we will finally have a good and pretty chess game for Linux...
Unfortunately I wrote it completely in french so for now the source code is quite useless but Im working on it and its one of the things who have to be done for the next release. But dont worry, I already translated the interface and you can play in english.

Evolution Jescs 2.9.1
Evolution Jescs is the Evolution Connector for Sun Java Enterprise System Calendar Server (SJESCS). more>>
Evolution Jescs is the Evolution Connector for Sun Java Enterprise System Calendar Server (SJESCS).
This connector supports the WCAP (Web Calendar Access Protocol) 2.0, 3.0, 3.1.
How to setup a JESCS account?
Now it is integrated into "Mail Accounts" under menu "Edit-->Preferences". Click "Add" button to bring up the account setup widzard. In "Identity" page, please input your Full Name and Email Address. In "Receiving Email" page, choose "Sun Calendar WCAP" as the Server Type. Input Host and Username here.
If your server listens to another port instead of the default one (80 for http, 143 for https), please input Host in the "Host:Port" format, such as "calendar.sun.net:8080". For "Use Secure Connection", please choose "Never" for http and "Always" for https.
In "Receiving Options" page, if you want to poll the server for new events and tasks at a different interval than the default 30 minutes, please check the checkbox and choose a interval. Please note that a small interval setting will impact the performance of the connector. If you are sure you are the only one accessing your calendar, you can set the interval to a very large number.
The "Sending Email" page actually is useless for the connector. You can just input anything here so that you can go forward.
In "Account Management" page, please enter your account name here. Then you can finish your JESCS account setting.
Enhancements:
- configure.in: Bump to 2.9.1
- storage/sunone-folder-tree.c: Fix a bug which will cause evolution-jescs to crash when connecting to the calendar server for the first time.

openSUSE KDE Tweaks 10.2
openSUSE KDE Tweaks are actually KDE 3.5.5 (openSUSE 10.2) patches and two RPM tools. more>>
openSUSE KDE Tweaks are actually KDE 3.5.5 (openSUSE 10.2) patches and two RPM tools through which I have added, modified and removed some features.
I like and dislike the new kickoff menu at the same time, so I decided to change everything about it that I dont like.
Although my patches were meant to change only the new kickoff menu, I ended up changing other parts of KDE, and even writing two little apps. The results of my hacking are all here, so make good use of it.
The patch provides the following modifications:
bi-kicker:
- Changes the order of the kickoff tabs to a more logical order (in order of access frequency): Favorites, Applications, History, Leave
- Removes the IMHO useless Computer tab (can be replaced with a sysinfo icon in the Favorites tab)
- Corrects the order of Grub entries (to descending) in the "Start Operating System" submenu
- Removes the useless "Restart and boot directly into ..." comments from the Start OS submenu
- Changes the order of the Recently Used Apps to the same order as in the old menu and as in the Recent Documents list (new at top, older at bottom)
- Lower the number of days a New Application entry is kept (1 instead of 3)
- Adds an Uninstall context menu entry which calls the uninstall_rpm script with the *.desktop file as the first parameter
- Changes in the old KMenu the "Recently Used Applications" tag to just "Recently Used" and the "Most Used Applications" tag to "Most Used"
- Adds a rounded corner to the left side of the search mode
bi-kicker_noshadow:
- Everything included in bi-kicker
- Removes the shadow surrounding the menu. Useful for those who enable the nVidia composite mode (providing a cool shadow for all active windows) and would like to avoid a strange double shadow effect.
bi-kdesktop:
- Prevents the unwanted realignment of desktop icons when the Auto Align
bi-kcontrol:
- Removed the "Get New Wallpapers" button from the Desktop Configuration Dialog, because it provides unfiltered access to images that are more and more shameless
- Changes the icon of the Display option (different from the Screensaver option)
bi-krpmview:
- Adds a "Quick Install" button to the krpmview kpart which calls the install_rpm script with the *.rpm file as the first parameter
The RPM-Tools provide:
- Simple and quick solution to install an RPM + konqueror service menu
- Simple and quick solution to uninstall an RPM + konqueror service menu
- No dependency handling

Peephole 1.5
Peephole is a GNU/linux server that periodically checks users mailboxes harvesting only last emails. more>>
Peephole program is a GNU/linux server that periodically checks users mailboxes harvesting only last emails, extracting user-defined regular espressions.
Each user, once logged in, has to define his mail providers [mail server and login informations] and other settings [time delay, regular expressions, ...].
Peephole supports various mail protocol as pop3, pop3s and apop.
The project also provides two clients. The first is a GUI (WindowMaker Dockapp) that lights up a user-defined icon when Peephole find an interesting mail on the mail server. The second is a text console client.
With this dockapp you wont waste your time with useless downloads.

slackrep is a very handy reporting tool for the Slackware Linux distribution. slackrep sript generates reports about the status of your packages.
You can, for example, check which patches are pending to install or check the integrity of your installed packages.
Enhancements:
- The logic was improved.
- The program was totally integrated with slackpkg.
- Command invocations were improved.
- A cacheinfo option was added.
- The cache was moved to /var/cache/slackrep.
- The slackpkg update call was improved, so now it runs according to the version of slackpkg installed; if the version is not supported, then it will tell you.
- The README file has been changed: very useful information has been added and useless information was removed.

nagios_xmlsensors 0.8
nagios_xmlsensors is a nagios plugin that retrieves and parses the XML files created by XMLSensors. more>>
nagios_xmlsensors is a nagios plugin that retrieves and parses the XML files created by XMLSensors. It can use any XML file that is in the XMLSensor format.
Note that there is no release of xmlsensors yet, the plugin came first because the sensor data can be generated by any program (not just my package) and the checks would be useless without a monitoring system.
This version can check local and remote (http) XML files, and check the age of the status data.
Enhancements:
- Checking of status data age was fixed.
- The general output was cleaned up.

GIMP cursor brushes 1.0
GIMP cursor brushes is a set of (50) brushes for use in the GIMP, created from assorted cursors. more>>
GIMP cursor brushes project is a set of (50) brushes for use in the GIMP, created from assorted cursors. Cursor brushes continues my contribution to my image editor of choice, the GIMP.
Seems basic things like cursors (most used for help-style pages) are often lacking.
I find lots of fancy, useless stuff -- much of it of real artistic merit -- but, as I said, impractical.
I blew the weekend making these brushes. Granted much consists of "prior art", but there was a good deal of editing involved. I even made the "Cursor Mouse" from scratch.
Use them for anything youd like. If you redistribute them, please include this file.
I post these, and perhaps make updates, at gimphelp.org. All the items will also be included (in png format) at wpclipart.com, the Public Domain clipart site.

Unidecode 0.04.1
US-ASCII transliterations of Unicode text more>>
Unidecode 0.04.1 offers you a powerful Python module that offers ASCII transliterations of Unicode text. It often happens that you have non-Roman text data in Unicode, but you cant display it -- usually because you're trying to show it to a user via an application that doesn't support Unicode, or because the fonts you need aren't accessible.
You could represent the Unicode characters as "???????" or " BA A0q0...", but that's nearly useless to the user who actually wants to read what the text says.
Major Features:
- Provides a function, unidecode(...) that takes Unicode data and tries to represent it in ASCII characters (i.e., the universally displayable characters between 0x00 and 0x7F).
- The representation is almost always an attempt at transliteration -- i.e., conveying, in Roman letters, the pronunciation expressed by the text in some other writing system.

Ping Tunnel 0.61
Ping Tunnel is a tool for reliably tunneling TCP connections over ICMP echo request. more>>
Ptunnel is an application that allows you to reliably tunnel TCP connections to a remote host using ICMP echo request and reply packets, commonly known as ping requests and replies. At first glance, this might seem like a rather useless thing to do, but it can actually come in your help in some cases.
Setting: Youre on the go, and stumble across an open wireless network. The network gives you an IP address, but wont let you send TCP or UDP packets out to the rest of the internet, for instance to check your mail. What to do? By chance, you discover that the network will allow you to ping any computer on the rest of the internet. With ptunnel, you can utilize this feature to check your mail, or do other things that require TCP.
Main features:
- Tunnel TCP using ICMP echo request and reply packets
- Connections are reliable (lost packets are resent as necessary)
- Handles multiple connections
- Acceptable bandwidth (150 kb/s downstream and about 50 kb/s upstream are the currently measured maximas for one tunnel, but with tweaking this can be improved further)
- Authentication, to prevent just anyone from using your proxy

unionfs-fuse 0.18
unionfs-fuse is an effort to create a userland unionfs implementation. more>>
unionfs-fuse filesystem is an effort to create a userland unionfs implementation that is probably slower but way more flexible than the current kernel-only based unionfs solution.
Main features:
Why choose this stuff
- The filesystem has to be mounted after the roots are mounted when using the standard module. With unionfs-fuse, you can mount the roots later and their contents will appear seamlesly
- You get caching which speeds things up a lot for free
- You get nice stats (optional)
Why NOT choose it
- Compared to kernel-space solution we need lots of useless context switches which makes kernel-only solution clear speed-winner
Available parameters
- --roots=/root1,/root2
- --stats
Enhancements:
- This version feaatures read-only branches, copy-on-write, bugfixes, and more.

Quinti Secure Contact Form 1
Quinti Secure Contact Form is a contact form for Web pages that is not vulnerable to robots. more>>
Quinti Secure Contact Form is a contact form for Web pages that is not vulnerable to robots who would abuse such forms for sending spam.
It uses both JavaScript field validators and CAPTCHA for verifying the validity of the sender. Quinti Secure Contact Form is easy to install and configure, and uses valid XHTML 1.1.
I have been attacked thousand times by spammers from my contact form, they use robots and take advantage of certain vulnerabilities of the mail forms to send their spam, and fill up my mailbox up to such an extent that they make your mail practically useless.
There are two ways of tackling this problem: Introducing a CAPTCHA validated through JavaScript, as i explain later.
And introducing certain functions in PHP that prevent these attacks, as you will see in the examples below
At the moment, go to the problem.
Main features:
- Invulnerable secure antispam contact form,
- JavaScript field validator in php (to insert multi-language variables and other variables, if you wish)
- Prevent spammers from using your form to send garbage, guaranteed.
- CAPTCHA to avoid Javascript validated Spam
- Easy to install and configure
- Valid XHTML 1.1

WMQuake 1.1
WMQuake can run Quake 1 in a dockapp window. more>>
WMQuake can run Quake 1 in a dockapp window.
It works pretty well. If you plan on doing netplay with this, you cant start a new game or join a game unless you first bring up the console and type: "disconnect". Then you can start a new multiplayer game or join an existing one. This is a bug that was present in the original source, and I left it untouched. There is no mouse or CD audio support, because they were not implemented at the time, and because I find both of these features extremely useless and not worth my time implementing.
Usage is simple. All standard quake1 command line options apply except winsize, which was removed. Feature set is close to that of earlier versions of quake 1 for linux which were handled by crack.com.
This is a complete software-only version, all traces of assembly code were removed. We are dealing with such small windows, it was really unnecessary. Internally, the engine renders into 320x320 buffer, which is then scaled down to fit inside dockapp. It isnt extremely pretty but it isnt so bad either. I could have done rendering into a smaller buffer to reduce CPU load, but then the statusbar would have to be disabled. And seems like the bare minimum size to render into has to be > 128 because of some calculation errors or something, with smaller window sizes the game would segfault very often.
Just what you always wanted. Hardcore quake fanatics can now enjoy their favorite game in a 64x64 window! Now works with FreeBSD, too!
Installation:
1. check Makefile, but there is probably nothing there to see.
2. make
3. copy wmquake to where you got your id1/ dir and stuff. Make sure that dir is all lowercase and the pakfiles inside are lowercase, too etc you know the standard routine.
4. ./wmquake &
