Free usability software for linux

Alternity is a multi-protocol instant messenger program for Linux. Currently Alternity only supports AIM, but has been designed to add others in the future. The project was started with two specific goals, functionality and usability.

I found in my wanderings of Linux and open source software, that many have great features, yet are not user friendly. Those that are user friendly have no features and are often poorly written. This project was started to bridge that gap, specifically with instant messenger programs.

JDuplicate project is a multiplayer word game suite supporting Scrabble and Duplicate.

It supports popular word games such as Duplicate and Scrabble.

JDuplicate Swing Client, commonly called JDSC, is the JDuplicate reference
client. It will allow you to connect to a JDuplicate server and play without
having to input complex commands as its main goal is usability.

Unlike JDCC, which was developped for debugging purposes, JDSC is developped
from the ground up with ease of use in mind. JDSC is fully graphical and
features user friendly characteristics such as drag&dropping tiles, full sound
support and a click and play interface for game selection.

Like the rest of the JDuplicate "official" package, running JDSC will require
that you install Java.

Empire is a real time, multiplayer, featuring military, diplomatic, Internet-based game and economic goals. For more information on the game of Empire, please check the FAQ.

While Empire is possessed of a great deal of complexities, with a bit of effort, it has proven to be the one definitive Internet experience for a great deal of people. Empire is the pinnacle of strategy games in todays world.

Enhancements:
- This release offers minor usability improvements for host and port selection. The Windows port now supports pipes. Players are encouraged to upgrade.
- You dont need this if you already have the matching release of package empserver.

Tasty Menu project is a KMenu replacement aiming to provide the maximum usability, or at least to be a testbed for usability concepts and ideas for a future kmenu replacement.
The left part of the menu is very similar to the Novell idea (http://www.novell.com/products/desktop/preview.html): you have a search box that is always selected when the menu is opened (the search result are displayed in the leftmost listview), followed by a combobox that decides what the following listview: favourite applications (default), most used applications, recently used applications and recent documents.
The right part contains the whole kmenu and takes the aspect from KBFX (http://www.kbfx.org), the middle column contains the top level categorization (plus in the current kmenu arrangment there are also the control center, home folder and find files, but i think there should be present only categories). in the left-most listview there is the content of the category currently selected in the middle column. I think in this way even if it has the same number of items it _appears_ less huge than with a popup menu/submenu structure.
every items have two row, for the name and for the description, in order to make a more it more informative. On each selected item appears an action icon on the right, at the moment they are "add bookmark" on application icons and "remove bookmark" on favourite apps list.
The bottom buttons are the usual switch user, lock session and logout. In a first time I didnt want to put them, I tought that these function should be delegate to another applet like http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=26150 , but it seems that the multiple menus concept its a thing that doesnt work very well in practice, it needs more real-world testing.
The left-most btton contains the user name and icon, and clicking on it it opens the kcm used to edit the users profile. I know it seems silly, but Its only an experiment, probably it will be merged with the switch user button.

AldoContent is a lightweight CMS focused on usability and simplicity. It is designed for multilingual Web sites and can have sections with public and private content.

The project has file management, is extensible with plugins, and uses gettext for localization. Is written in PHP for a MySQL backend.

For authors and editors it offers rich text edition, taking them away from HTML code. Publishing content in a web site with AldoContent intalled on it is extremelly easy. Also AldoContent generates automatically the navigation menus when the authors add pages.

AldoContent is written in PHP programing language by Miguel Angel Da Vila and uses MySQL database as back-end.

LX is a community-driven Web site program in which users can share links, post on forums, send private messages to one another, and more.
