Common UNIX Printing System 1.3.0
CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating systems. more>>
CUPS provides a portable printing layer for Unix(r)-based operating systems. Common UNIX Printing System has been developed to promote a standard printing solution for all Unix vendors and users.
CUPS provides the System V and Berkeley command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP") as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon (LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect) protocols are also supported with reduced functionality.
CUPS adds network printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing options to support real world printing under UNIX. It includes an image file RIP that supports printing of image files to non-PostScript printers.
A customized version of GNU Ghostscript 7.05 for CUPS called ESP Ghostscript is available separately to support printing of PostScript files within the CUPS driver framework. Sample drivers for Dymo, EPSON, HP, and OKIDATA printers are included that use these filters.

junkfilter 20030115
junkfilter is a procmail-based spam filtering system that is both configurable and customizable. more>>
junkfilter is a procmail-based spam filtering system that is both configurable and customizable. Procmail is a popular and powerful mail-processing program available for nearly all Unix systems. This means that junkfilter doesnt work on Windows, AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, Juno, WebTV, or any other type of system--just Unix (BSD, Linux, Solaris, etc.).
junkfilter filters a wide range of spam using many different types of filters. It is configurable on a systemwide or per-user basis. Is unsolicited commercial email (UCE) filling up your mailbox? Cant stand the thought of webmail-style throwaway email addresses? Take control of your inbox: you can filter 90+% of that spam with junkfilter.
We assume youve already got procmail installed and running properly, as this is explicitly a "junk email filter system for procmail". Consult the procmail documentation or the FAQ,
http://www.zer0.org/procmail/ if you need help installing procmail.
Set the $PMDIR variable. It is recommended that you make a directory ".procmail" in your home directory and a symlink from $HOME/.procmailrc to $HOME/.procmail/procmailrc:
mkdir -m 755 $HOME/.procmail
mv -i $HOME/.procmailrc $HOME/.procmail/procmailrc
ln -s $HOME/.procmail/procmailrc $HOME/.procmailrc
If you do this, you can set PMDIR=$HOME/.procmail
Place the junkfilter files wherever you want them. $PMDIR/junkfilter is a likely choice. Set $JFDIR in your procmailrc (for junkfilter to run) and in your shell configuration files (for the Makefile) to the directory in which you placed junkfilter.

ssss 0.5
ssss is an implementation of Shamirs secret sharing scheme for UNIX systems. more>>
ssss project is an implementation of Shamirs secret sharing scheme for UNIX systems.
In cryptography, a secret sharing scheme is a method for distributing a secret amongst a group of participants, each of which is allocated a share of the secret. The secret can only be reconstructed when the shares are combined together; individual shares are of no use on their own.
More formally, in a secret sharing scheme there is one dealer and n players. The dealer gives a secret to the players, but only when specific conditions are fulfilled.
The dealer accomplishes this by giving each player a share in such a way that any group of t (for threshold) or more players can together reconstruct the secret but no group of less than t players can. Such a system is called a (t,n)-threshold scheme.
A popular technique to implement threshold schemes uses polynomial interpolation ("Lagrange interpolation"). This method was invented by Adi Shamir in 1979. You can play around with a threshold scheme on the demo page.
Note that Shamirs scheme is provable secure, that means: in a (t,n) scheme one can prove that it makes no difference whether an attacker has t-1 valid shares at his disposal or none at all; as long as he has less than t shares, there is no better option than guessing to find out the secret.
Enhancements:
- This release adds memory locking and TTY echo suppression.
- A buffer overflow condition has been fixed.

glucopy-glurestore 1.0
glucopy-glurestore is a set of scripts for copying and restoring a fully functional GNU/Linux (or other Unix-like) system. more>>
glucopy-glurestore is a set of scripts for copying and restoring a fully functional GNU/Linux (or other Unix-like) system.
The glucopy script will back up all system content (system and user files), while the glurestore script will partition and format an identical system, restore the system and user files, and make the system bootable.
glucopy-glurestore scripts are included in the HTML documentation.
The back-up should (ideally) be made while the system is not running, which usually means that you need to boot with a rescue system disk. A number of suitable floppy or CD-based system images can be downloaded from the net or, better, included in your distributions boot options. Make sure that this rescue system supports the type of disks in your target system (SATA/SCSI or IDE).
The following script will get partition information in a form that can be used to restore the system on new disks and will then collect the working system files in one (or more) compressed tar balls.
The sfdisk program is used for getting partition information (-d option). Take a look at sys_partitions.txt after the glucopy.sh script has finished.
In this application it is considered that all Master Boot Record (MBR) information will be overwritten by the partitioning and boot loader programs. If you need a copy of all or parts of the MBR, however, dd is your friend.
System directories that contain transient information (e.g. /proc, /sys) are not copied. Directories or individual files containing unwanted information can be excluded using tars –exclude=/directory/file option.
