wbumount 0.1.4
Wbumount is a tool that lists processes which are blocking the unmounting of a device. more>>
Wbumount is a tool that lists processes which are blocking the unmounting of a device.
Wbumount has two goals: (1) Make a "statement" how i would deal with the "umount - device is busy"-problem on the free desktop. (2) To provide a small tool which makes life easier for people already using the desktop - until someone comes up with a better solution.
Wbumount helps to find out, which processes block unmounting or ejecting devices (such as cdroms, usb-harddisks...).
Wbumount only deals with mount points which are under user control ("user"-option in fstab or mtab).
wbumount consists of two parts:
* The command line utility "wbumount". It has to be installed as "suid root" in order to see all processes via /sbin/fuser , because certain applications like the "fam"-file alteration monitor (used by nautilus) run as root. Link to fam.
* The pygtk frontend "wbumount-gtk":
This desktop app shows the list of processes, which "block" a certain mountpoint. The list gets updated every second - you will see processes come and go...
When all processes are gone, the buttons "umount" and "eject" get activated.
The "Mountpoint"-menu also gets updated permanently - when you mount a device, its mountpoint is added to the list.

hmount 0.2.1
hmount project is a simple interface to HAL for mounting and unmount hot-plugged devices. more>>
hmount project is a simple interface to HAL for mounting and unmount hot-plugged devices. Unlike gnome-mount, it doesnt depend on gconf, GTK+, X, or GNOME libraries.
Installation:
The simplest way to compile this package is:
1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system.
Running `configure might take a while. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.
2. Type `make to compile the package.
3. Optionally, type `make check to run any self-tests that come with the package.
4. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.
5. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean. To also remove the files that `configure created (so you can compile the package for a different kind of computer), type `make distclean. There is also a `make maintainer-clean target, but that is intended mainly for the packages developers. If you use it, you may have to get all sorts of other programs in order to regenerate files that came with the distribution.
Enhancements:
- autotools used for build.
- allow to use not full mountpoint during umount.
- right slash ignoreg in mountpoint during umount.

Magic Mounter is a user-space auto-mounter.
mmounter tries to mimic the behaviour of MacOS with regards to automatic monitoring and mounting of the volumes in your system (CDs, ZIP disks, floppies, HDs) using their volume name as the mount point.
It will optionally eject devices and let users mount/umount them.
Currently mmounter supports ext2, ext3, iso9660 (CD), HFS, and VFAT.
This tool is user-space only (doesnt require any kernel patching) and should be fairly portable.

Xfce4-mount-plugin 0.5.0
Xfce 4-mount-plugin is a mount/umount utility for the panel. more>>
Xfce 4-mount-plugin provides a plugin for the Xfce 4 panel allowing you to mount devices and have them opened in a file manager afterwards.
This little plugin behaves like the "kwikdisk - removable media utility" shipped with KDE.
Press it and it will display a list of items representing your various devices. If you click on an unmounted devices it will mount it and vice versa. There is no warning in case a device cant be mounted or unmounted.
The plugin displays various information on each device :
"device name" > "mount point" ["used size"/"total size"] "available size" free and an obvious progress bar
The plugin works in a very simple way. It builds a list of devices from your /etc/fstab (using setfsent() and getfsent() ) and get device stat from the list of mounted devices (ie same data as the df command), using setmntent() and getmntent().
For mouting a device, the plugin simply runs a "mount /mount_point/ " command.

multistat 1.0
multistat is a generic program to display the up/down status of all kinds of things. more>>
multistat is a generic program to display the up/down status of all kinds of things (some examples: VPN, particular machines, whether filesystems are mounted).
You will need to edit the multistat.py file to configure the things whose status you want to check.
Status for each "property" (i.e., VPN, computer, filesystem mount) is either red or green.
For each property, you enter values into several arrays, as defined below
Taken from multistat.py:
# commands that set properties to the green state
green_cmds = []
# commands that set properties to the red state
red_cmds = []
# commands whose output can be used to determine whether the state is green or red
check_colour_cmds = []
# strings that, if present in check_colour_cmds, mean that we are in the green state
is_green = []
# display this when in the green state
green_display_strings = []
# display this when in the red state
red_display_strings = []
So what happens is:
For each property:
1. In the green state the green_display_strings value for the property is displayed in green.
2. In the red state the red_display_strings value for the property is displayed in red.
3. To determine whether the property is in the gren or red state, the command in the check_colour_cmds array is run, and if the string in the is_green array is found in the output, then the property is in the green state. Otherwise, it is in the red state.
4. If green_cmds and red_cmds are not null (they MUST be defined, but they MAY be empty strings), then clicking the displayed string for the property on the widget will cause the relevant command to be executed to cause the property to change state. In other words, you can force a property to toggle between green and red by clicking the property on the widget. So, for example, you can mount/umount filesystems with a click. For some properties it makes no sense to provide a toggle (for example, if you are simply monitoring whether a particular computer is on the network): for such properties, define red_cmds and green_cmds to be empty strings.
This may not make much sense (sorry!) but if you read it again with the multistat.py script open in front of you, you should be able to see what I mean.
You can change the actual displayed colours easily (see screenshot 2 for an example where "red" has been redefined).
By default, properties are scanned and updated once per miute.

NuttX 0.2.8
NuttX project is a real-time embedded operating system (RTOS). more>>
NuttX project is a real-time embedded operating system (RTOS). It has a small footprint that is usable in micro-controller environments. It is fully scalable from tiny (8-bit) to moderate embedded (32-bit) systems. It also aims to be fully compliant to standards, to be fully real time, and to be totally open.
Main features:
Small Footprint
- Usable in all but the tightest micro-controller environments, The focus is on the tiny-to-small, deeply embedded environment.
Rich Feature OS Set
- The goal is to provide most standard POSIX OS interfaces to support a rich multi-threaded development environment.
- NON-GOALS: (1) It is not a goal to provide OS subsystems such as network or USB (but these could obviously be added). (2) There is no MMU-based support for processes. At present, NuttX assumes a flat address space.
Highly Scalable
- Fully scalable from tiny (8-bit) to moderate embedded (32-bit). Scalability with rich feature set is accomplished with: Many tiny source files, link from static libraries, highly configurable, use of weak symbols when available.
Standards Compliance
- NuttX strives to achieve a high degree of standards compliance. The primary governing standards are POSIX and ANSI standards. Additional standard APIs from Unix and other common RTOSs are adopted for functionality not available under these standards or for functionaly that is not appropriate for the deeply-embedded RTOS (such as fork()).
- Because of this standards conformance, software developed under other standard OSs (such as Linux) should port easily to NuttX.
Real-Time
- Fully pre-emptible, fixed priority and round-robin scheduling.
Totally Open
- Non-restrictive BSD license.
Enhancements:
- tools/Makefile.mkconfig: Under Cygwin, executable has a different name
- tools/mkdeps.sh & arch/arm/src/Makefile: Corrected a problem makeing dependencies
- tools/zipme.sh: Force directory name to be nuttx-xx.yy.zz
- fs/fs_opendir.c: Correct errors in semaphore usage that can cause deadlock.
- lib/lib_getopt.c: Added getopt() support
- examples/nsh/: NSH now supports cat, mount, umount, and mkdir. ls supports -l -s, and -R
- Added basic OS support to manage environment variables: environment storage, cloning on task creation, sharing on pthread creation, destruction on thread/task exit.
- Add environment variables APIs: environ, getenv, putenv, clearenv, setenv, unsetenv
- Correct an error in realloc() when the block is extended "down" in memory. In this case, the old memory contents need to be copied to the new location and an allocated bit was not being set.
- examples/ostest/: Added an environment variable test.
- examples/nsh/: Break into several files.
- lib/: Added strrchr, basename, dirname
- examples/nsh/: Add cp, rm, rmdir, set, unset commands. echo will now print environment variables.

usb_device_amaroKscript 1.3.0.1
usb_device_amaroKscript script brings generic USB media player support to amaroK. more>>
usb_device_amaroKscript script brings generic USB media player support to amaroK because the 1.3.1 release provided with the Mandriva 2006.0 Free distribution only supports iPOD media players. The script was developed to support various hot-pluggable USB mass-storage devices that can be mounted as a file system and is only designed to supports simple media players that do not require external applications to maintain special database files on the device, but simply allow playlists and media files to be copied directly to it.
The script provides the following functions:
1) USB Device | Copy music to player
Copy selected amaroK playlist tracks to the USB device. This is a simple file copy operation.
2) USB Device | Copy to player & playlist
Copy selected amaroK playlist tracks to the USB device. The script allows the user to create an m3u playlist of the copied tracks on the target. The created playlist entries can be written in a new .m3u file, or they can be appended to an existing .m3u file. This allows the user to create custom playlists without having to depend on auto-generated playlists and without having to use the player interface for playlist creation.
3) USB Device | Create a new playlist
Select media files from the USB device and create an .m3u format playlist directly on the player.
4) USB Device | Delete music & playlists
Delete media files from the USB device. This delete function masks files that it does not consider to be audio or playlist content, though the user is afforded the opportunity to identify file extensions that are allowed to be deleted.
5) USB Device | Delete music in a playlist
Delete all media files that appear in a given .m3u playlist file that is on the USB device. This function allows a user to pull logical groups of media files off of the player without requiring files to be individually selected.
6) USB Device | Purge all music & playlists
Delete all media files or playlist files from the USB device to restart loading media on an uncluttered player. This delete function masks files that it does not consider to be audio or playlist content, though the user is afforded the opportunity to identify file extensions that are allowed to be deleted.
7) USB Device | Help
Displays a dialog that explains the function of each menu option in greater detail.
Options 1 and 2 above operate on the amaroK playlist files that are selected at the time the function is invoked. All other USB Device functions operate through prompts that allow the user to operate on files that are already on the media player. This can feel somewhat odd for other functions since one must place and select files in the amaroK playlist even if the operation involves only files that are already on the player. This is a consequence of the fact that script functions can only be invoked with the context menu for files in the amaroK playlist.
USB_Device automatically handles mounting an unmounting of the media player when the user has specified the mount point. The script generally expects the mount point to be created by a hotplug event that occurs when the media player is connected to the system. It is the users responsibility to be sure to set up any /etc/fstab entries that might be required in order to make simple mount and umount commands possible.
Even though USB_Device is capable of mounting and unmounting the player, it is also smart enough to leave the player mount alone if the user mounted it explicitly.
To use this script, install it into amaroK with the Tools | Script Manager. The "Install Script" button will properly install the tarball that contains these files.
Once the script is installed, use the "Run" button to start the script so that the context-click menus are installed and operational. All script functions are grouped under the "USB Device" context menu. This context menu appears when you right-click selected files in the amaroK playlist.
Configuration settings are stored in ~/.amarok_usb_device.
The user-configurable options are the media player mount point, whether or not to use mount/umount commands, and a selection of music file extensions that may be deleted when "Purging" the media player.

Auto-autofs 1.8
Auto-autofs is a Perl script that searches the hardware for block devices using the /proc directory. more>>
Auto-autofs is a Perl script that searches the hardware for block devices using the /proc directory. The project finds partitions on harddisks via fdisk and tries to detect the filesystems.
The script generates also automounter entries for all ISO (or other loopback) files in special folders.
It creates a configuration file (automounter map) or works as a configuration program for automount.
Also a HTML file with all devices will be generated, so its possible to mount (and umount) partitions by clicking on a link.
Main features:
- Finds IDE and SCSI block devices via /proc
- Finds partitions on harddisks
- Filesystem and disk size detection via fdisk
- Gives the Devices automatically a fitting name (cdrom, cdwriter, zip, part etc.)
- By more than one device the names will be numbered (cdrom, cdrom1, cdrom2 etc)
- Its possible to give devices an alias (/dev/hdd1 -> "export")
- Volume or partition label support (for ext2, ext3, udf, isofs, reiserfs, ntfs and vfat)
- more filesystems can be added
- Support for Audio and Video CDROMs (see README file) (NEW)
- Support for IDE-SCSI Emulation
- Support for umount/eject
- Configurable commands
- With Icons (32x32 or 16x16) from KDE
- Support for ISO Files and other loop back files
- Add your devices as QuickBrowser to your KDE Panel
- Free configurable
- Automatically configuration
- Automatically creates symbolic links (/dev/cdrom --> /dev/scd0)
- I18n support
Enhancements:
- removed some kde stuff
- syntax change of index.html
- change default access rights
- bugfixes

mylvmbackup 0.5
mylvmbackup project is a Perl script for quickly creating backups of MySQL servers data files. more>>
mylvmbackup project is a Perl script for quickly creating backups of MySQL servers data files. To perform a backup, mylvmbackup obtains a read lock on all tables and flushes all server caches to disk, makes an LVM snapshot of the volume containing the MySQL data directory, and unlocks the tables again. The snapshot process takes only a small amount of time. When it is done, the server can continue normal operations, while the actual file backup proceeds.
The LVM snapshot is mounted to a temporary directory and all data is backed up using the tar program. The archive file is created using a name of the form backup-YYYYMMDD_hhmmss_mysql.tar.gz, where YYYY, MM, DD, hh, mm, and ss represent the year, month, day, hour, minute, and second of the time at which the backup occurred. The prefix backup and the date format can be modified. The use of timestamped archive names allows you to run mylvmbackup many times without danger of rewriting old archives.
It is necessary to run mylvmbackup on the same host where the MySQL server runs. If your MySQL daemon is not listening on localhost, or using the default socket location, you must specify --host or --socket. Even though mylvmbackup communicates with the server through a normal client connection to obtain the read lock and flush data, it makes the backup by accessing the file system directly. It is also necessary that the MySQL server data directory resides on an LVM volume. (It is, however, a good idea to do the LVM backup to a different partition than the one where the data directory resides. Otherwise, there is a good chance that LVM will run out of undo space for LVM snapshot maintenance and the backup will fail.)
The user who invokes mylvmbackup must have sufficient filesystem permissions to create the LVM snapshot and mount it. This includes read/write access to the backup directory.
For proper operation mylvmbackup requires that Perl as well as the DBI and DBD::mysql modules. In addition, it uses several other programs: /bin/date to construct the archive filename, tar to back up data, LVM utilities to create and remove the LVM snapshot, and the system utilities mount and umount.
Enhancements:
- The "--innodb-recover" option was added, which provides an option to run InnoDB recovery on LVM2 snapshots (which provide write access to the device) prior to creating the backup archive.
- This speeds up resuming a MySQL instance from a restored backup.
- A bug with the default value handling for command line options was fixed. In version 0.4, if a config file was specified, default values in the script were all changed to blank.
- This means that the config file had to supply values for every variable instead of just the values that need to be changed from default.
