Ubuntu 6.06.1 (Dapper Drake)
Ubuntu (Dapper Drake) is a daily build version of the feature Ubuntu Linux Distribution. more>>
Ubuntu (Dapper Drake) is a daily build version of the feature Ubuntu Linux Distribution.
The install CD allows you to install Ubuntu permanently on a computer. There are three images available, each for a different type of computer.
The Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu Manifesto: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customise and alter their software in whatever way they see fit.
These freedoms make Ubuntu fundamentally different from traditional proprietary software: not only are the tools you need available free of charge, you have the right to modify your software until it works the way you want it to.
The team behind Ubuntu makes the following public commitment to its users:
- Ubuntu will always be free of charge, and there is no extra fee for the "enterprise edition", we make our very best work available to everyone on the same Free terms.
- Ubuntu includes the very best in translations and accessibility infrastructure that the Free Software community has to offer, to make Ubuntu usable by as many people as possible.
- Ubuntu is released regularly and predictably; a new release is made every six months. You can use the current stable release or the current development release. Each release is supported for at least 18 months.
- Ubuntu is entirely committed to the principles of free and open source software development; we encourage people to use free and open source software, improve it and pass it on.
Enhancements:
- The Ubuntu team is proud to announce the release of Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS, the first maintenance release of Dapper Drake. This release includes both installable Desktop CDs and alternate text-mode installation CDs for several architectures, for Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Edubuntu. Xubuntu is also included, although commercial support for it is not available from Canonical Ltd.

Kubuntu 6.06.1 (Dapper Drake)
Kubuntu is an Ubuntu-derived distribution. more>>
Kubuntu is an Ubuntu-derived distribution. The Kubuntu CDs are made up of Ubuntus base plus KDE. You can get exactly the same effect by installing Ubuntu and adding the KDE packages from the Ubuntu archives.
Kubuntu is the result of several months effort to get KDE 3.4 into Ubuntus main repository and create the first major derived Ubuntu distribution. Kubuntu is not a fork of Ubuntu but an official project of it, sharing the same package archive and infrastructure. It is possible to convert an Ubuntu system to Kubuntu or vice versa.
Highlights of KDE 3.4 include the groupware manager Kontact 1.1, the multi-protocol instant messenger Kopete and the excellent KPDF reader. As well as official KDE applications Kubuntu also features the finest pick of leading Free Software desktop programmes.
KDEs default settings have been tweaked to Ubuntu standards while remaining true to KDE. Changes include sudo support, an uncluttered desktop and a tidied K-Menu for applications. Kubuntu developers come from the KDE and Debian communities and improvements are sent back to the original projects. Kubuntu would like to thank the KDE developers and Debian KDE packagers for their excellent work.
As an Ubuntu user you should already know that Ubuntu is based on the Debian distribution and ships, by default, with the GNOME desktop. When you tell people your distro of choice is Ubuntu, they will naturally assume you run a GNOME desktop.
Therefore, once you install KDE for Ubuntu, simply saying you are running Ubuntu can lead to some confusion in the support forums and on mailing lists. So, for purpose of clarity and to help avoid confusion, it was decided that KDE for Ubuntu will be affectionately known as "Kubuntu." This follows the long standing tradition of the KDE application naming convention, which entails adding K as the first letter of a KDE application name.
Kubuntu aims to be to KDE what Ubuntu is to Gnome: a great integrated distro with all the great features of Ubuntu, but based on the KDE desktop. Kubuntu is released regularly and predictably.

Xubuntu 6.06.1 (Dapper Drake)
Xubuntu is a nice Ubuntu desktop experience with Xfce4. more>>
Xubuntu community projects aim is to provide a nice Ubuntu desktop experience (even on older hardware) by using Xfce4 as the desktop environment and GTK+ 2 applications wherever possible.
Xfce4 has been supported in Ubuntus universe by the MOTUXfce team since Hoary and Breezy. For Dapper we want to go one step further and make Xubuntu a sibling of Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Edubuntu by having install and live CD images generated for it.
As Ubuntu has a delay of six weeks with a new release date of the first of June, Xubuntu should be released at the same time and should use the latest stable Xfce 4.X code (hopefully 4.4 will be released by then).
This release includes a recent code snapshot of the upcoming Xfce 4.4desktop environment.
In addition a nice selection of applications is provided to complete the user experience
* Firefox
* Thunderbird
* Gaim
* Abiword
* Gimp
* Synaptic
and others.
The install CD also contains Openoffice.org2 but it not installed by default.
Under the hood, as part of the Ubuntu base system there is linux 2.6.15.6, gcc 4.0.3 and Xorg 7.0

Edubuntu 6.06.1 (Dapper Drake)
Edubuntu is a version of the Ubuntu operating system suitable for classroom use. more>>
Edubuntu is a version of the Ubuntu operating system suitable for classroom use. As an educator youll be able to set up a computer lab, or establish an online learning environment, in an hour or less -- then administer that environment without having to become a fully-fledged Linux geek.
Edubuntu is currently under development by the same development team that produces the wildly popular Ubuntu system. Edubuntu a customized version of Ubuntu.
Principal design goals of Edubuntu are centralized management of configuration, users, and processes, together with facilities for working collaboratively in a classroom setting. Equally important is the gathering together of the best available free software and digital materials for education.

nUbuntu distirbution is a collection of network and server security testing tools, piled on top of the existing Ubuntu system.
While aimed to be mainly a security testing platform, nUbuntu also operates as a desktop enviroment for the advanced linux user.
This is the final release before the stable release 1. We have been working hard to make this release smaller, but with more required features than the previous releases.
Notes About This Release: To start fluxbox, please type "startx" when at the command line. This is not automatic due to the fact that some users do not use a GUI, so we do not make it compulsary.

Gobuntu 7.10
Gobuntu is a flavour of Ubuntu but with a very strict set of restrictions on the licences of code and content. more>>
Gobuntu is a flavour of Ubuntu (like Kubuntu or Xubuntu) that is basically the same desktop environment as Ubuntu (a GNOME desktop) and a very strict set of restrictions on the licences of code and content. This means that we try to strip out ANYTHING which is not modifiable and redistributable, including firmware, PDF’s, video footage, sounds etc.
We are trying to apply the FSF “rights” definition to everything in the platform. Gobuntu will not correctly enable much hardware today - but it exists as a banner for the cause of software freedom and as a reference of what IS possible with a totally rigorous approach.
The goal is to make it a real point of pride to be able to run Gobuntu on a laptop or desktop or server, because it means that all of the stars have aligned to ensure that you have complete freedom to use that hardware with free software.

VoiceBuntu (Ubunterisk) is an Ubuntu based live Linux distribution that uses Asterisk and VoiceOne to provide VoIP service. more>>
VoiceBuntu (Ubunterisk) is an Ubuntu based live Linux distribution that uses Asterisk and VoiceOne to provide VoIP service.
VoiceBuntus focus is to run asterisk with no installation needed. VoiceBuntu - ubuntu itself - has built in boot prompt cheap code one can use called persistent.
This feature allows the user to use VoiceBuntus persistent feature in order to keep settings on a flash disk or memory stick.
To start, just burn the ISO file on a CD-ROM then start the live cd distribution and wait until everything is ready.
Please note, that apache will start at the very last moment of the boot cycle. So you may a to wait 1 or 2 minutes to let everything load.
Once everything is prepared, start your browser and point to the IP address of your running VoiceBuntu (i.e. http://192.168.0.10).
If you have no DHCP Server available you can press F6 at boot screen and add additionally add the command parameter
static=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
netmask=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
bcast=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
gateway=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
dns1=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
dns2=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP of your choice.
By that VoiceBuntu boots with static IP address on eth0 network device.
Enhancements:
- This live CD release is based on Ubuntu 7.04 and VoiceOne 0.5.0_2 due to a minor bug in VoiceOne version 0.5.0.

The theme is assembled from various Ubuntu style items, most of which can be found on KDE-look: Ubuntu Cristal background, Human (Revised) color scheme, nuoveXT icons, Ubuntu Kmenu icon, SoftGlow Orange kicker, default Plastik style and Crystal window deco.
Installation of .kth file thru KDE Control Center--Theme Manager--Install; then, if you want exactly the same look, get and install the above items (search on KDE-look). The Kmenu can be changed by replacing each kmenu.png in /usr/share/icons/nuovext/[SIZE]/apps/ Then refresh your icon set.

Ubuntu Linux is a complete desktop Linux operating system, freely available with both community and professional support.
The Ubuntu team is proud to announce Ubuntu 5.10 Server, the first release of Ubuntu designed especially for server environments.
Like the standard desktop Ubuntu, it occupies a single CD. However, it is distinguished by the following features:
* Includes server-oriented kernels with out-of-the-box automatic support for multiprocessor systems
* Includes a wide variety of popular server applications such as apache, mysql, postgresql, php, zope, openldap, bind, samba, all on the single CD, ready for installation
* A slim default installation, occupying just 400 megabytes: add only the software you need, for a clean, maintainable configuration.
* Provides no desktop environment (GNOME, KDE, etc.) by default
