Ping Tunnel 0.61
Ping Tunnel is a tool for reliably tunneling TCP connections over ICMP echo request. more>>
Ptunnel is an application that allows you to reliably tunnel TCP connections to a remote host using ICMP echo request and reply packets, commonly known as ping requests and replies. At first glance, this might seem like a rather useless thing to do, but it can actually come in your help in some cases.
Setting: Youre on the go, and stumble across an open wireless network. The network gives you an IP address, but wont let you send TCP or UDP packets out to the rest of the internet, for instance to check your mail. What to do? By chance, you discover that the network will allow you to ping any computer on the rest of the internet. With ptunnel, you can utilize this feature to check your mail, or do other things that require TCP.
Main features:
- Tunnel TCP using ICMP echo request and reply packets
- Connections are reliable (lost packets are resent as necessary)
- Handles multiple connections
- Acceptable bandwidth (150 kb/s downstream and about 50 kb/s upstream are the currently measured maximas for one tunnel, but with tweaking this can be improved further)
- Authentication, to prevent just anyone from using your proxy

openSUSE KDE Tweaks 10.2
openSUSE KDE Tweaks are actually KDE 3.5.5 (openSUSE 10.2) patches and two RPM tools. more>>
openSUSE KDE Tweaks are actually KDE 3.5.5 (openSUSE 10.2) patches and two RPM tools through which I have added, modified and removed some features.
I like and dislike the new kickoff menu at the same time, so I decided to change everything about it that I dont like.
Although my patches were meant to change only the new kickoff menu, I ended up changing other parts of KDE, and even writing two little apps. The results of my hacking are all here, so make good use of it.
The patch provides the following modifications:
bi-kicker:
- Changes the order of the kickoff tabs to a more logical order (in order of access frequency): Favorites, Applications, History, Leave
- Removes the IMHO useless Computer tab (can be replaced with a sysinfo icon in the Favorites tab)
- Corrects the order of Grub entries (to descending) in the "Start Operating System" submenu
- Removes the useless "Restart and boot directly into ..." comments from the Start OS submenu
- Changes the order of the Recently Used Apps to the same order as in the old menu and as in the Recent Documents list (new at top, older at bottom)
- Lower the number of days a New Application entry is kept (1 instead of 3)
- Adds an Uninstall context menu entry which calls the uninstall_rpm script with the *.desktop file as the first parameter
- Changes in the old KMenu the "Recently Used Applications" tag to just "Recently Used" and the "Most Used Applications" tag to "Most Used"
- Adds a rounded corner to the left side of the search mode
bi-kicker_noshadow:
- Everything included in bi-kicker
- Removes the shadow surrounding the menu. Useful for those who enable the nVidia composite mode (providing a cool shadow for all active windows) and would like to avoid a strange double shadow effect.
bi-kdesktop:
- Prevents the unwanted realignment of desktop icons when the Auto Align
bi-kcontrol:
- Removed the "Get New Wallpapers" button from the Desktop Configuration Dialog, because it provides unfiltered access to images that are more and more shameless
- Changes the icon of the Display option (different from the Screensaver option)
bi-krpmview:
- Adds a "Quick Install" button to the krpmview kpart which calls the install_rpm script with the *.rpm file as the first parameter
The RPM-Tools provide:
- Simple and quick solution to install an RPM + konqueror service menu
- Simple and quick solution to uninstall an RPM + konqueror service menu
- No dependency handling

PodWiki 0.9.2
PodWiki is a collaborative Web-based authoring tool written in Perl. more>>
PodWiki is a collaborative Web-based authoring tool written in Perl which differs from other WikiWiki tools in that it uses Perl POD as its markup language.
PodWiki by Thomas Linden uses Internal Link PerlPod as its markup, which is an established language for documentation in the Perl community and well known world wide. PodWiki enhances POD a little to circumvent some lacking features (such as images or includes).
Beside POD, it also understands a shorthand markup which writes like natural text and is very easy to understand for new users. If they need more features they have to use POD; for simple pages Internal Link WikiShorthand is enough. Internal Link WikiShorthand is the default markup if nothing is defined otherwise.
PodWiki supports includes, graphics, version control (via RCS), diffs, merge-back, user/group authentication and authorization, page property inheritance, variables, attributes and a lot more. The user can use so called "formatters" to insert plain HTML or text content, which is very useful for a stylesheet or example C code. There is also a formatter for Perl code available which makes it possible to create interactive PodWiki pages (note: for security reasons this feature is turned off by default).
The big difference from other Perl WikiEngines is that PodWiki is 100% customizable, since the whole wiki site is driven by the include feature. PodWiki always loads one page ("AutoLoad"), which includes the other stuff, such as the Header, Stylesheet, Menu, the Content-Area, Edit-Bar, Footer and so forth. This allows the user to fully modify PodWikis look-and-feel.
If you are using Apache with mod_perl you can speed up PodWiki. Its fully mod_perl compliant.
PodWiki supports Internal Link authentication by users and groups. Nevertheless it is possible to work with PodWiki unauthenticated. In this case you will be logged as user anonymous. Pages can be protected for reading and/or writing for either one or more groups or for a single user. If you dont want to be logged as anonymous: Internal Link register.
Beside all those features it is still very easy to install, no need for lots of additional Perl modules or cryptic installation procedures. Just do:
./configure & make install
The configure script understands some parameters which allows tweaking the installation such as destination path or the like.
Enhancements:
- This release was relicensed under the BSD license.
- The TWiki formatter support has been abandoned, since the module contained GPL code which is no longer compatible with podwiki.

WP Clipart Viewer 2.1
WP Clipart Vieweris a viewer for the WP Clipart collection. more>>
WP Clipart now includes a viewer to expediate the use of the clipart collection. While it is true that any editor will allow you to "browse" your system for images to open or insert, the interface can often be slow, or you have to dig through the system to find the clipart, and often the display of the images (in thumbnail form) is very small.
The Clipart Viewer (CAV) is quick, has a nice size display (up to 240x240 pixels) and the images are displayed, when resized, in their original proportions. In other words, you get a real good look at the images before you pick one. CAV then lets you copy the image in original size to the clipboard to paste into your program. The preview quality and speed are the biggest advantages to using CAV, but there are a couple other advantages that are not immediately obvious.
First, you paste the saved image while keeping CAV open. This allows you to change your mind to try a different clip or copy and paste another image quickly. You dont have to block your editor with another "open" or "insert" dialog to keep going. You can also paste it into a graphics editor if you want to do a little tweaking and not have to find it again.
On Linux, you often cannot get images into the clipboard to use in apps like AbiWord or the Gimp. Simply by keeping CAV open, Abi and Gimp can be pasted into.
I programmed CAV with Python/wxPython/wxGTK. Dependencies should not be a problem on any system as I have created "stand-alone" executables for both Linux and Windows, using cxFreeze and py2exe, respectively, and included these in the downloads for WP Clipart. [They are in the "Viewer" folder.]
Below are a few screenshots. The use of the little app is fairly self-explanatory . . . by clicking on the "caviewer" in the wpclipart/viewer directory (or more easily, by making a symlink or shortcut to that file) CAV will open with its search tree open to the clipart directory.
<<lessThe Clipart Viewer (CAV) is quick, has a nice size display (up to 240x240 pixels) and the images are displayed, when resized, in their original proportions.

Scratchy 0.8.2
Scratchy is an Apache Web Server log parser and HTML report generator written in Python. more>>
Scratchy is a set of scripts to parse Apache web server log files and extract useful information. From this data, Scratchy will create HTML reports so that website administrators can easily view the information and determine trends and their typical audience.
Scratchy began as a proof-of-concept which allowed me to compile stats about my personal website. As time progressed I continually added features and improvements and I felt that it would be useful to others.
The functionality that the project aims to supply is a complete log parsing and report generating tool. Also, there seemed to be a need for such a project in Python. I have seen some other Apache log parsers but they were developed in other languages (such as Perl, C, etc). One goal of this project is for it to be extensible, to that tune, most of the report appearance can be easily modified by tweaking a single config file.
What information does Scratchy report?
- Accessed web pages
- Hosts accessing your website
- Operating systems
- Browsers and versions
- Search engines
- Robots
- File types accessed
- Errors
- Country name lookups (if enabled).
- Charts of most data (if enabled).
- A trace of pages accessed by each ip address (if enabled).
Enhancements:
- Migration from pickled dictionaries to SQL database (MySQL)
- Deprecated gdchart in favor of ChartDirector $nbsp;
- Deprecated http country lookups in favor of GeoIP API
- Code optimizations
- Additional user agents
- Major version change - the pre 0.8 data is no longer supported. You must re-parse all logs. Sorry.

Poseidon 0.6.1
Poseidon provides yet another PHP weblog, but with a robust plugin API. more>>
Poseidon provides yet another PHP weblog, but with a robust plugin API.
Poseidon is yet another PHP weblog, although its goals are a little different from most.
Poseidon is intended to be as small, simple, and cleanly organized as possible. It does its job, which is to manage content and allow user feedback via comments, and thats it.
Its features can be enhanced and extended via a robust event-driven plugin API, so you never have to install features you wont use.
Great care has been taken to exercise the best possible coding practices. Simplicity is always favored over cleverness. Poseidon speaks to MySQL on the back end and spits out 100% valid XHTML on the front end, using CSS to handle design and layout.
Thus, by spending some time tweaking CSS files, you could easily give your entire Poseidon-based website a radically different design, even going so far as to move individual elements around or eliminate them completely.
The goal of all of this is to give you the simplest possible method for customizing and running a weblog without having to do a lot of work.
