Free tray software for linux

With AllTray you can dock any application with no native tray icon (like Evolution, Thunderbird, Terminals) into the system tray.
A high-light feature is that a click on the "close" button will minimize back to system tray. AllTray works well with Gnome, KDE, XFCE 4, Fluxbox and WindowMaker.
Enhancements:
- added "Stop" to the xmms menu. requested by me ;)
- get the gnome theme file by reading "XDG_DATA_DIRS". usefull if gnome is not installed in "/usr..." bug reported by Laurent Hilsz

Gmail Tray is a very simple Gmail notificaiton applet for the desktop system tray.

Why?

Because I needed one that will support "Gmail In Your Domain". And it took me less that 2 hours to get the first version working.

wmsystray provides a system tray compatible with freedesktop.orgs System Tray Protocol specification.

Basically, it serves as a system tray that allows other programs to show icons in it. For example, if you enable GAIMs System Tray Icon plugin, wmsystray will display GAIMs systray icon.

Its intended use is as a Window Maker dock app, though it will run in other window managers as well.

Wallpaper Tray is a wallpaper utility that sits on the GNOME panel.

The project gives you a random wallpaper from a chosen directory at logon, on a timer, and allows you to select a new wallpaper at random from its menu.

UPDATE: I have had reports from users on Ubuntu that Wallpaper Tray is broken, something about the config dialog not appearing. It works fine on FC5. It also works on FC6. I suspect that the Ubuntu package needs rebuilding, hopefully this will happen for 0.5.3.

From here on in, I wont be touch packages, I will support the Autopackage project, which is designed to support the distribution of non core programs like mine.
he Applet lets you add directories, wallpapers are then randomly selected at login or at a given interval. You can also search your wallpaper collection, and delete wallpapers you dont like anymore.

Wallpaper Tray, as the name suggests, used to be live in the Notification Area. The Notification Area was never really meant for programs such as this, so the latest release uses the Gnome Panel. The last of 0.4.x series is still available however, for those that would rather stick with this way of working.

This program will help you to view network activity on your network device such as eth0, ppp0 and so on.

It put animated, graduated, icons near the KDE tray.

Gtk2::TrayManager is a Perl bindings for EggTrayManager.

The EggTrayManager library is used internally by GNOME to implement the server-side of the Notification Area (or system tray) protocol. Gtk2::TrayManager allows you to create notification area applications using Gtk2-Perl.

KTemperature is an application to monitor the system temperature. I was motivated to develop this utility because I could not find a simple system tray resident application for monitoring the system temperature using the ACPI interface.
The application obtains the system temperature from the file /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature .
I have been using Linux and Open Source for quite sometime and this is my first contribution. I hope this will lead to many more contributions from me.
Main features:
- Displays temperature in the system tray.
- Auto loading of ACPI thermal module if required and present.
- Detection of ACPI thermal interface if interface is present /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/*
- Right click options of Pause, Restart and Update for greater control of polling with ketboard shortcuts.
- Visually represents the temperature by increasing or decreasing the redness of the system tray icon with change in the temperature.
- The polling frequency can be changed from 1 second to 60 seconds.
- Configurable temperature monitoring interface. If the default monitoring point of /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature is not present the icon displays NA instead of the temperature. The monitoring point can be configured in such cases.
- Persistent configuration. The configuration parameters are stored in a file located at $HOME/.ktemperatue . The file is read at application startup and previously stored values are used. If the application is being run for the first time the default values will be used.

- Added keyboard shortcuts to right click menu options.
- Added caption to root password dialog.
