Java SQL Admin Tool 2.4.0

Java SQL Admin Tool 2.4.0

Java SQL Admin Tool allows you to manage a RDBMS via Java and JDBC. more>>
Admin is entirely written in Java. It uses Swing GUI Components and JDBC to connect to databases. It has been succesfully tested with MySQL, InstantDB, Oracle, Empress, and PostgreSQL.

You can have a tree view of the RDBMS or pick a single instance to have a look at its metadata. It allows you to create, modify, and drop tables and to create indices on a table. The dynamic form makes it easy to enter data into a certain table, and the guided query makes it easy to retrieve data from a table and to export it.

Java developers will probably enjoy the code generator doing an OO relational wrapper and a swing GUI for them. You can also export and import data and transport it from one DBMS to another.

ZZEE Active SQL Backup 0.9.2

ZZEE Active SQL Backup 0.9.2

ZZEE Active SQL Backup can perform *incremental* backup of MySQL database. more>>
Since MySQL is the most popular SQL server that is used in conjunction with web sites, there was a need for incremental backup utility. ZZEE Active SQL Backup is designed for clients of web hosting companies, and can be useful to system administrators as well.
Main features:
- Can perform *incremental* backup of MySQL database
- Can perform full backup of MySQL database
- Can replicate database
- Can process SQL queries
- Can dump database structure
- Can suggest database changes needed to process incremental backup
- Can send data backed up by email
- Can transfer backed up data by FTP to other computer (if Net::FTP is installed)
- Can compress backed up data
Usage synopsis
Active SQL Backup can do incremental or full backups of MySQL database as often as needed. It is suitable both for the clients of web hosting companies who can not get access to MySQL update logs and for the host administrators. Backup syntax is:
shell> ./zmdb.pl -b
It stores backup files in BACKUP_DIR, specified in user_settings.txt, named like YYYY_MM_DD_hh_mm_ss.sql[.gz]. The backup files consist of series of SQL INSERT statements and may contain DELETE statements. The database scheme is stored in file database_name.create.sql. If gzip is available, then Active SQL Backup automatically uses it to compress stored data. The program can automatically send backed up files by email or upload to the other computer by FTP.
If the system fails, Active SQL Backup can restore the database. Restore syntax for incremental backups is:
shell> ./zmdb.pl -r
If you make full backups, restore syntax is the following:
shell> ./zmdb.pl -e < BACKUP_DIR/database_name.create.sql
shell> ./zmdb.pl -e < BACKUP_DIR/YYYY_MM_DD_hh_mm_ss.sql &
The first line is needed to restore database structure, and the second is the *most recent* data file. You may need to "gunzip" it before supplying to restore.
You can use the program to dump database structure
shell> ./zmdb.pl -s > structure_dump_file
or to process queries. The latter feature is useful if you need to process queries regularly, for example, to update membership status of the users of your online service. The syntax to execute SQL queries is:
shell> ./zmdb.pl -e < some_sql_file
Where format of some_sql_file is the same as with Mysql utility: SQL statements are separated by semicolon. Note that if you pass SELECT queries to Active SQL Backup, then no result will be returned.
Syntax summary is:
zmdb.pl [SINGLE_OPTION]
-a --advice suggest database modifications and tables_config.txt
-b --backup backup database structure and data
-e --execute execute SQL queries [from STDIN]
-h --help print this screen
-r --restore restore database structure and data
-s --structure dump database structure [to STDOUT]

JDBC SQL Profiler 0.3

JDBC SQL Profiler 0.3

JDBC SQL Profiler is a Swing-based GUI tool to recommend database index creation. more>>
JDBC SQL Profiler is a quickly hacked tool to do statistics on SELECT queries in order to know where it is most efficient to create indexes.

This small tool, released under an Apache-based license connects to the P6Spy JDBC logger and displays in real time the queries going to the database. It uses an integrated SQL parser to build statistics on the most accessed tables and columns and can generate SQL index creation files.

Other information is also gathered and displayed, such as the request time for a single request, for a class of request, and for all the requests. Sorting may be done on these views to detect database problems efficiently.

This tool can be very useful when you have a big volume of queries that you need to analyze not one by one (meaning that the specific time isnt that much of interest), but rather when you want to know what "group" of queries is taking a lot of time, such as queries on the same tables and columns but with different query values. The integrated SQL parser (built with ANTLR) is used to analyze the incoming SELECT queries.

The Swing GUI was based on Apaches Log4J Chainsaw, but all the bugs are mine. Also contributors are welcome to test, make new suggestions, give their opinion and submit patches.

GD::Graph::colour 1.44

GD::Graph::colour 1.44

GD::Graph::colour contains colour manipulation routines for use with GD::Graph. more>>
GD::Graph::colour contains colour manipulation routines for use with GD::Graph.

SYNOPSIS

use GD::Graph::colour qw(:colours :lists :files :convert);

The GD::Graph::colour package provides a few routines to work with colours. The functionality of this package is mainly defined by what is needed, now and historically, by the GD::Graph modules.

FUNCTIONS

colour_list( number of colours )

Returns a list of number of colours colour names known to the package. Exported with the :lists tag.

sorted_colour_list( number of colours )

Returns a list of number of colours colour names known to the package, sorted by luminance or hue. NB. Right now it always sorts by luminance. Will add an option in a later stage to decide sorting method at run time. Exported with the :lists tag.

_rgb( colour name )

Returns a list of the RGB values of colour name. if the colour name is a string of the form that is acceptable to the hex2rgb sub, then the colour will be added to the list dynamically. Exported with the :colours tag.

_hue( R,G,B )

Returns the hue of the colour with the specified RGB values. Exported with the :colours tag.

_luminance( R,G,B )

Returns the luminance of the colour with the specified RGB values. Exported with the :colours tag.

add_colour(colourname => [$r, $g, $b]) or add_colour(#7fe310)

Self-explanatory. Exported with the :colours tag.

rgb2hex($red, $green, $blue)
hex2rgb(#7fe310)

These functions translate a list of RGB values into a hexadecimal string, as is commonly used in HTML and the Image::Magick API, and vice versa. Exported with the :convert tag.

read_rgb( file name )

Reads in colours from a rgb file as used by the X11 system.
Doing something like:

use GD::Graph::bars;
use GD::Graph::colour;

GD::Graph::colour::read_rgb("rgb.txt") or die "cannot read colours";

Will allow you to use any colours defined in rgb.txt in your graph. Exported with the :files tag.

Mckoi SQL Database 1.0.3

Mckoi SQL Database 1.0.3

Mckoi SQL Database is a Java relational database management system. more>>
Mckoi SQL Database is a full featured SQL-92 relational database management system written in Java.

The software can operate as either a dedicated multi-client, multi-threaded database server, or can be used as an embedded database inside a Java application.

The engine is designed to be easy to use and maintain and versatile for sophisticated database development tasks. The software provides a JDBC 2.0 driver.

To use Mckoi SQL Database, you will need a JavaTM runtime environment version 1.2 or greater. Sun provides Java runtimes for Win32, Solaris and Linux from their website at http://www.javasoft.com/j2se/. IBM also provides various Java runtimes for a number of platforms at http://www.ibm.com/java/jdk/download/.

When Java has been installed on your system, unpack the mckoi distribution file to a directory in your file system. Then you are ready to create a database and develop your database application.

Creating A Database

Before you can begin development of your database application, you will need to create and configure a blank database. The database configuration file describes all of the configurable properties of the database (details of the database configuration file are covered in the next section). The software ships with a default configuration that looks for a database at path ./data in your filesystem.

To create a database using the default configuration with an admin username of admin_user and password aupass00, go to a prompt, change to the Mckoi Database distribution directory and type:

java -jar mckoidb.jar -create "admin_user" "aupass00"

We do not advise using either this username or password in a production system. The user created here has full control over every aspect of the database so choose a username / password carefully.

When the command has completed, a sub-directory called data will have been generated. This directory is used to store data from the database. A sub-directory called log is also generated which stores debugging and query log information.

Database Configuration

When you run the mckoidb.jar package, it looks for a file named db.conf in the current directory. This file contains a number of variables that determine where the database looks for information, as well as other user-definable properties. The configuration file can be renamed and copied to a different location. If you change the configuration file location, you must supply the location when you run the database;

java -jar mckoidb.jar -conf [location of conf file] .....

You can edit the configuration file with a text editor. The default configuration file that ships with the software contains extensive comments on what each variable does.

Mimer SQL Engine for liunx 9.3.8

Mimer SQL Engine for liunx 9.3.8

This article describes some of the highlights introduced in Mimer SQL Engine 9. As always, we have a mission to constantly improve performance and to keep up with the latest in database more>> This article describes some of the highlights introduced in Mimer SQL Engine 9. As always, we have a mission to constantly improve performance and to keep up with the latest in database standardization.
Binary and Character Large Objects (BLOBs/CLOBs/NCLOBs)
Mimer SQL Engine 9 has an efficient implementation of the SQL-99 data types BINARY LARGE OBJECT (BLOB) and CHARACTER LARGE OBJECT (CLOB). The data type NATIONAL CHARACTER LARGE OBJECT (NCLOB) was introduced in Mimer SQL 9.2. NCLOB is a data type where Unicode character data can be stored in standardized format, thus enabling a true portability between different platforms (e.g. in a client/server application with a heterogeneous client environment, for example, both Linux and Windows clients). All BLOBs, CLOBs and NCLOBs are stored in the Mimer SQL Engine database and are included in the same transaction control, access control and backup/restore system as more traditional business data.
The maximum size of a BLOB/CLOB/NCLOB is in practice unlimited (the only limitation is the maximum table size in Mimer SQL Engine; 8 TBytes!).
Mimer SQL Engine implements several functions for optimising the performance for insert, select, update, and delete of BLOBs/CLOBs/NCLOBs. When retrieving a BLOB/CLOB/NCLOB over a network, the large object is transferred directly from Mimer SQL Engines communication buffers to the application requesting the BLOB/CLOB/NCLOB without any intermediate temporary storage.
When large objects are accessed from Mimer SQL Engine, the objects are split into packages optimised for best possible performance e.g. over a network. The objects are also accessed asynchronously; the application can read the first packages of the BLOB/CLOB/NCLOB while Mimer SQL Engine delivers the rest of the object.

A MySQL Storage Engine for AWS S3 0.06

A MySQL Storage Engine for AWS S3 0.06

A MySQL Storage Engine for AWS S3 is a plugin storage engine that allows MySQL to access Amazon Web Services. more>>
A MySQL Storage Engine for AWS S3 project is a plugin storage engine that allows MySQL to access Amazon Web Services Simple Storage Service (AWS S3) buckets and items.
You need a MySQL source tree, and you need to have it built.
Figure out where the source tree is.
In my case its /home/mark/mysql/mysql-5.1-arch
Figure out where the target install tree is.
In my case its /home/mark/mysql/builds/example
Figure out where the MySQL build puts storage engine plugins.
Its probably in lib/mysql under the install tree
Or its /usr/lib/mysql
Or its /usr/local/lib/mysql
For me its /home/mark/mysql/builds/example/lib/mysql
Then run:
./config/bootstrap
./configure --with-mysql=/path/to/mysql-source --libdir=/path/to/mysql-plugins
make && make install
You can optionally copy the "src" directory here into storage/ in the
MySQL server source, rebuild MySQL, and things should compile.
Next, you should probably install the S3 command line tools.
They depend on you having Python.
Get them at http://www.hanzoarchives.com/development-projects/s3-tools/
If you dont have one yet, you need an Amazon AWS account, and then
request that they enable S3. Go to http://amazonaws.com/ to do that.
You will need to get your "AWS Access Key Identifiers".
Assume they are
FV8CY5793BC7CY32YOSN
W9oQxQNJizGgjxNc82giE9/ipefQW19tuO2xpC9G
(I just made those up with a random number generator.)
Put this in your .bashrc file
AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID=FV8CY5793BC7CY32YOSN
AWS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET=W9oQxQNJizGgjxNc82giE9/ipefQW19tuO2xpC9G
export AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID AWS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET
This isnt used by the storage engine, but it makes using the s3 command
line tools easier.
Use s3mkbucket to create a bucket. Remember that buckets are in a
global namespace, and there are advantages to having them look lik a
domain name. I suggest you snap up "s3.example.com", where
"example.com" is your own domain name.
s3mkbucket s3.example.com
s3put -k solfege/Do -s "a deer, a female deer" s3.example.com
s3put -k solfege/Re -s "a drop of golden sun" s3.example.com
s3put -k solfege/Mi -s "a name I call myself" s3.example.com
s3put -k solfege/Fa -s "a long long way to run" s3.example.com
s3put -k solfege/So -s "a needle pulling thread" s3.example.com
s3put -k solfege/La -s "a note to follow So" s3.example.com
s3put -k solfege/Ti -s "a drink with jam and bread" s3.example.com
Then at the mysql> prompt
create table s3notes (s3id varchar(255) not null primary key, s3val blob)
engine=AWSS3
connection=awss3 s3.example.com FV8CY5793BC7CY32YOSN W9oQxQNJizGgjxNc82giE9/ipefQW19tuO2xpC9G;
select * from s3notes where s3id=solfege/Re;
insert into s3notes (s3id, s3val) values (color/Red, ff 00 00);
select * from s3notes where s3id=color/Red;
delete from s3notes where s3id=color/Red;
You can name the table anything you want, but the fields must be named s3id and s3val, and s3id must be the primary key.
Enhancements:
- More flexible schema, CREATE SERVER, and SELECT without WHERE are supported.

SQL::Translator::Manual 0.07

SQL::Translator::Manual 0.07

SQL::Translator::Manual is a Perl module that contains a manual for SQL translator. more>>
SQL::Translator::Manual is a Perl module that contains a manual for SQL translator.

SYNOPSIS

SQL::Translator (AKA "SQLFairy") is a collection of modules for transforming (mainly) SQL DDL files into a variety of other formats, including other SQL dialects, documentation, images, and code. In this manual, we will attempt to address how to use SQLFairy for common tasks. For a lower-level discussion of how the code works, please read the documentation for SQL::Translator.

It may prove helpful to have a general understanding of the SQLFairy code before continuing. The code can be broken into three conceptual groupings:

Parsers
The parsers are responsible for reading the input files and describing them to the Schema object middleware.

Producers
The producers create the output as described by the Schema middleware.

Schema objects
The Schema objects bridge the communication between the Parsers and Producers by representing any parsed file through a standard set of generic objects to represent concepts like Tables, Fields (columns), Indices, Constraints, etc.

Its not necessary to understand how to write or manipulate any of these for most common tasks, but you should aware of the concepts as they will be referenced later in this document.

SQL::Schema 0.31

SQL::Schema 0.31

SQL::Schema is a Perl module to convert a data dictionary into SQL statements. more>>
SQL::Schema is a Perl module to convert a data dictionary into SQL statements.

SYNOPSIS

use DBI;

my $dbh = DBI->connect(...);

use SQL::Schema;

my $schema = SQL::Schema->new($dbh);

my $sql = $schema->string;
print $sql;

print "$schema";

WARNING

This is alpha software. It currently works with Oracle databases only. The name of the module might be changed in future releases as well as its interface.

If somebody is modifying the datase schema during the life time of an SQL::Schema object, the object will probably fail and / or produce wrong information.

SQL::Schema is a class for objects representing a database schema. The methods of an instanciated object do allow to access the information within a databases data dictionary and to represent them as SQL create statements and the like using the proper SQL dialect.

Constructor

$schema = SQL::Schema->new($dbh);

The new method instanciates a schema object. The only argument required is a database handle, which has to offer the same API as described within DBI(3).

Methods

$sql = $schema->string;

Returns an SQL string containing several statements at once. This string contains all the SQL statements to create the database schema.

This method is overloaded with the string operator. So the following two lines are equivalent:

$sql = $schema->string;
$sql = "$schema";
