Top Downloads provides a script that counts how many times a file has been downloaded.

It keeps statistics of your downloads and can generate a TOP10 of your downloaded files. The administration function of this script allows you to delete, rename or change count numbers for your downloads.

It can check a directory that you specify for new files and add it to a database. Count numbers and TOP10 can be included into a HTML document.

Most web servers require SSI documents to have the extension .shtml or .shtm

For Apache web servers:
- AddType text/html .shtml
- AddHandler server-parsed .shtml

Songs 0.3

Songs 0.3

Songs is a graphical tool to record and mix audio files. more>>
Songs is a graphical tool to record and mix audio files. It supports an infinite number of tracks, huge audio files, and various effects.
One important motivation for Songs was the need of a recording tool under Linux. There are some already existing (see the links below), but these are too complex, too huge, eat too much memory and resources. Small machines can be used to record and mix audio files, even with a graphical interface. Songs is trying to prove it.
The recording is done directly to disk, so that with small machines, whithout much memory you can still record.
There is a full duplex mode, but full duplex is not very well handled with OSS. You dont really know if your two streams of samples are synchronized or not, and the interface provided by OSS does not help much with that. So, currently, take the full duplex mode as is. You probably will need to move by hand audio tracks to let them be synchronized.
Main features:
- Unlimited number of tracks.
- Supports WAV files (mono, stereo). Only 44.1 KHz, 16 bits files are supported, because Songs was born mainly to help me create music I could store on audio digital compact disks.
- Supports raw float files (mono, stereo). Very useful when you are mixing and that you eat too much resources. Simply put in a new file your current mix, and use this new file instead of several ones. Using float numbers gives more precision of the intermediary mixing.
- Several effects (currently not that much, but it is planned).
- Not too much memory used. All the audio files are mapped directly into the memory, so that the Linux kernel can swap them very easily. It means that if your files can exist on your disk, any size they are, they can be used with Songs (with a soft limitation of virtual memory space, which depends on your setup, and a hard limitation of 2 GB, because of the use of signed integers, which currently are 32 bits numbers).
- Use of gtk 2.0, for the good and the bad. The good is that the interface was done quickly. The bad is that the gtk documentation is far from perfect, that gtk is not bug free, that I may use it the wrong way sometimes and that it may change in the future, forcing Songs to be changed (and what if the Songs authors dont feel the need to do so, for example by lack of time?).
Enhancements:
- sc1.c sc1_gui.c:
- New files, ripping a compressor from sc1_1425 coming from swh-plugins-0.4.11.tar.gz (see http://plugin.org.uk/).The compressor was buggy, sometimes in rms_env_process
- r->sum was negative, leading to NaN for the sqrt stuff.
- pan/vol/pos.c: Checking return value of malloc (no, it was not done, shame !).
- various files: Fixing a realloc misusing (doing realloc(size+=32) then size+=32, which finally means size+=64 but only allocing size+32 stuff, weirdy to find).
- help_gui.c: The "About" stuff only appeared once, fixing it.
- various files: Fixing bugs those last days, forgot to feed this Changelog.

The Minstrels Song 2.0

The Minstrels Song 2.0

The Minstrels Song project is a roguelike game with emphasis on worldbuilding. more>>
The Minstrels Song project is a roguelike game with emphasis on worldbuilding.
The Minstrels Song is a roguelike game which seeks to let the user interact with a rich and extensive world.
Among roguelikes, emphasis is on providing nonlinear play in a detailed environment.
Effort has been made to provide races that have not only stats but cultures.
Top 10 things to do in "The Minstrel s Song":
- Pet a dolphin.
- Pray and worship.
- Ride a dragon.
- Match wits with a clockwork door.
- Climb a tree.
- Answer a riddle.
- Build your own mechanical devices.
- Keep an exotic pet.
- Choose your own quest.
- Explore a world of wonder.
To compile and run this game, go into the directory src, edit the file "tms.h" according to the comments that are contained in, and use make.
More specifically, it needs a certain lib directory, where all of the files in "lib" are stored. /usr/local/lib/tms is reccommended. Once you have created that directory and moved all of the files to it (be sure that book8.txt is writeable by everybody -- it is more or less the high score file), set LIB_DIR in tms.h to that directory, with a trailing slash -- ie. change appropriate line to say.
#define LIB_DIR "/usr/local/lib/tms/"
(or whatever you have put for your lib directory.)
Security note: It is strongly discouraged to install TMS as a SetUID binary; the game is not designed to have special priveleges.

diald-top 2.1pl7

diald-top 2.1pl7

diald-top maintains a top-like listing of all packets and their time to live for use with diald. more>>
diald-top maintains a top-like listing of all packets and their time to live for use with diald. This project needs a new lead developer as the author no longer uses diald.

The concept behind diald-top is very simple. I got sick of trying to read a monitor pipe flying by on an extra VC, so I lusted after a more user friendly interface. As I like the interface in top, I decided to start with that kind of look. Fortunately, the designers of diald made my life rather easy by making the monitor pipe with an easy structure to implement.

I used ncurses for the interface to make my life simpler. This also has the additional effect of making this possible to run on any type of terminal. I have a VC4404 hooked up and this works great on it. As ncurses uses the terminfo database, it SHOULD work fine on any terminal with correct terminfo entries.

As of Version 0.0.1.1, I have added a limited command structure to diald-top. It is now possible to send diald commands to force/unforce, block/unblock and to bring the link up/down, and also to quit diald (immediately or when the link comes down) all from within diald-top. This makes the program a lot more useful.

The program also now reports the status of the link (UP, DOWN, CONNECT, START_LINK, STOP_LINK, DISCONNECT, CLOSE, etc). This can still use some work
but it is there now...

As of v2.0, diald-top now has the capability to run remotely, communicating to a custom server (also included in the package) that farms the contents of the monitor FIFO out to the remotely running clients. The communication is done using TCP/IP on port 1313 on the server. The identity of the user that is remotely running diald-top is verified using identd, and is then looked up in a configuration file (by userid, IP address, netmask).

mpserv 0.10

mpserv 0.10

Mpserv is an architecture for playing MP3s distributed throughout a LAN or high-speed WAN. more>>
Mpserv is an architecture for playing MP3s distributed throughout a LAN or high-speed WAN. The core is the server which houses a database of song titles available through the network. Clients connect to this server and request songs to be played on the stereo connected to the server machine.

The Server
need: mpg123 >=0.59n, perl >=5.002
usage: perl server.pl
desc: Attaches itself to port 2600 using the TCP protocol.

There is a (purposely) rudimentary CLI available. Just telnet into the server and type help for the commandset available. This is truly meant to be used by an external
(probably GUI) client.

The server has a database of all mp3s available as well as a playing queue holding the song currently playing and any waiting to be played.

A basic set of operations are supported, including addition, promotion, demotion and deletion of queue elements.

If the currently playing song is deleted, it will stop playing and the next song in the queue will begin. If it is demoted, it is interrupted and the next song in line is played. The first
song is then requeued to be played next. This is equivalent to promoting the number 2 song in the queue.

The Client
need: perl >=5.002, GTK >= 1.06, Perl/GTK >=0.5000
usage: perl client.pl [host-address]
desc: A GTK client for playing and modifying the server mp3 queue.

Omitting the host-address causes the client to look at the localhost for the mp3 server.

The GUI client should be fairly intuitive. The top frame contains the tree of available songs broken down as Artist => Album => Song. The frame below contains the list of songs that are currently in the servers queue. A bunch of buttons occupies the bottom of GUI, they control the song position in the queue, deletion, queue refreshing and tree refreshing.

The playing queue is automatically updated whenever a change is made by that particular client. Changes made by other clients are not visible until the refresh button is pushed. This includes when songs have finished, as queue traversal is left up to the server.

To fix this a server push mechanism is needed, where each client registers as a listener and is notified through a server of its own when changes have been made. This has yet to be implemented.

qSong project is a song database program with multimedia features. more>>
qSong project is a song database and a lyrics manager program with multimedia features.
Main features:
- Store and manage song lyrics
- One ssong can have multiple versions
- Song can have related songs
- Copyright information - authors and ccli
- Comprehensive authors database
- Attachment of multimedia files (sound files, picures, tabs...)
- Searching and sorting songs in many cathegories using tree view of the database
- Grouping songs in songbooks
- Every item in database can have comments
qSong is written in C++ with Qt4 library. It uses SQlite3 as a database backend so it is easy to acces the song database in standard way by 3rd party SQL tools through database intercaces as ODCB or JDBC.
I have chosen this platform because is very portable, relatively fast and easy to extendable with plugins.

Gtk2Fu 0.10

Gtk2Fu 0.10

Gtk2Fu is a GTK2 Forked Ultimate, a powerful layer on top of Gtk2. more>>
Gtk2Fu is a GTK2 Forked Ultimate, a powerful layer on top of Gtk2. (forked from ugtk2.)

gtk2-fu is a layer on top of perl gtk2, that brings power, simplicity and speed of development. It brings additional methods to ease the widget creation among other things. But the most important feature is that it brings you a lot of derivated methods from existing methods, that does exactly the same thing, except that ir returns the widget. Example :

$window->set_title(foo); #the normal method
$window->set_title_(foo); #the gtk2-fu derivated method
set_title_ does the same things as set_title, but it returns $window.

Whats the advantage? you can chain actions ! Look at the 2 code examples below :

# normal perl-gtk2
my $window = Gtk2::Window->new();
my $entry = Gtk2::Entry->new();
$entry->set_text(foo);
$entry->set_editable(0);
$window->add($entry);

# using gtk2-fu
my $window = Gtk2::Window->new();
$window->add(
Gtk2::Entry->new()
->set_text_(foo)
->set_editable_(0)
);

You could even get rid of the $window declaration. The gain can seem to you very minor, but in more complex cases, it allows you to create a complex GUI really easilly. Youll find a bigger example at the end of this documentation
In addition to this feature, gtk2-fu provides a toolbox of useful help methods to create widgets, ask things to the user, and misc other things.
