Scum of the Universe 1.0

Scum of the Universe 1.0

Scum of the Universe is a space trading game that combines two genres: arcade and strategy. more>>
Scum of the Universe is a space trading game that combines two genres: arcade and strategy. On one side, its a classic vertical-scrolling space shooter game. On the other side, it is an adventure and strategy. You should choose whether youll be an independent space trader, firearms smuggler, fierce freedom-fighter or something in between.

Following the main storyline, you go through the galaxy from one planet to another. Space travel requires fuel, so you need to keep earning money to buy it. You can also buy various upgrades for your spaceship and weapons that affect the arcade part of the game. The storyline itself is not linear. There are also some points where youll need to make decisions that will determine your destiny.

For thousands of years, people of planet Xen have colonized the planets in their galaxy. As time went by, many colonies grew unhappy about their status, as everything was controlled by Xen. Some of them organized military units and declared independence. You can see the status of each planet by "Rebel Sentiment" indicator. Planets with RS higher than 50% are ruled by the Rebel government, and Rebel laws apply.

Trading firearms is legal on planets ruled by Rebels, as they need as much firepower as they can get. On the other hand, Empire forbid all the trading with firearms and other ground weaponry as they wish to maintain their military advantage. One of the ways to make a lot of money is to buy cheap guns at Empire planets and sell them for a lot of money on Rebel planets where demand is extremely high. But be careful as youll need to fight Empire fleet once they find out youre a smuggler.

Beside the raging war between Xen Empire and the rebels there is increased activity of alien species, who destroy human ships. The stronger alien activity, the more waves of alien ships youll need to defeat in each planets outer orbit. Some of the aliens you destroy may drop artifacts (big blue ones) which you can sell at any space station for 20credits a piece.

MDB Tools 0.6pre1

MDB Tools 0.6pre1

MDB Tools is a set of tools for reading Microsoft Access MDB files. more>>
The MDB Tools project is a effort to document the MDB file format used in Microsofts Access database package, and to provide a set of tools and applications to make that data available on other platforms.

Specifically, MDB Tools includes programs to export schema and data to other databases such as MySQL, Oracle, Sybase, PostgreSQL, and others.

Also, included is a SQL engine for performing simple SQL queries. The 0.5 release includes an updated GUI interface (screenshot is available here). A sparse but functional ODBC driver is included as well.

MDB Tools currently has read-only support for Access 97 (Jet 3) and Access 2000/2002 (Jet 4) formats. Access 2000 support is a recent addition and may not be as complete as Jet 3 support.

Write support is currently being worked on and the first cut is expected to be included in the 0.6 release.

StarTrade V0056

StarTrade V0056

StarTrade isa 2D topdown spacesimulation. more>>
StarTrade isa 2D topdown spacesimulation.
Main features:
- Game complete modifiable
- Nice particelsystem for smoke and spaceship engine etc.
- cool explosions
- intelligent NPCs, living Universe.
- weapons, ships, items, trade goods
- Prices change by demand and supply
- three factions
- actionfull spacefights
StarTrade is a Spacesimulation like Wing Commander:Privateer or X-Beyond the Frontier with 2D world view. You can trade, pirate or work for the Allianze to hunt pirats.
As some of you may have noticed, there was a game-submission a few months ago - "StarTrade", a freeware-currently-in-development-spacesim ressembling Wing Commander: privateer, Freelancer or X. But as most comments were positive, motivating to download StarTrade and give it a go, a problem showed up: StarTrade has been german-only.
I suddendly realized that, when releasing StarTrade for Linux-users, there will be also a large number of potentional gamers who do not speak german, so I started a communityproject in our official forum aiming at a first, rough (well.. we got a slight lack of translators who speak english as their first language) english translation - and here it is. Just visit the official StarTrade homepage (http://www.fetzenet.de), download, after already having installed StarTrade, the English-Mod and follow the instructions.
However, this is only a first attempt - Ive created an international Area in the official forum and everyones welcome to visit us. If you encounter any translation-errors or just want to improve something feel free to join the communityproject - the released version is only a first try.
Thats it. Have fun to everyone who will try out StarTrade e.g. the international Version of it!

Bio::Tools::CodonTable 1.4

Bio::Tools::CodonTable 1.4

Bio::Tools::CodonTable is a bioperl codon table object. more>>
Bio::Tools::CodonTable is a bioperl codon table object.

SYNOPSIS

# This is a read-only class for all known codon tables. The IDs are
# the ones used by nucleotide sequence databases. All common IUPAC
# ambiguity codes for DNA, RNA and animo acids are recognized.

# to use
use Bio::Tools::CodonTable;

# defaults to ID 1 "Standard"
$myCodonTable = Bio::Tools::CodonTable->new();
$myCodonTable2 = Bio::Tools::CodonTable -> new ( -id => 3 );

# change codon table
$myCodonTable->id(5);

# examine codon table
print join ( , "The name of the codon table no.", $myCodonTable->id(4),
"is:", $myCodonTable->name(), "n");

# translate a codon
$aa = $myCodonTable->translate(ACU);
$aa = $myCodonTable->translate(act);
$aa = $myCodonTable->translate(ytr);

# reverse translate an amino acid
@codons = $myCodonTable->revtranslate(A);
@codons = $myCodonTable->revtranslate(Ser);
@codons = $myCodonTable->revtranslate(Glx);
@codons = $myCodonTable->revtranslate(cYS, rna);

#boolean tests
print "Is a startn" if $myCodonTable->is_start_codon(ATG);
print "Is a termianatorn" if $myCodonTable->is_ter_codon(tar);
print "Is a unknownn" if $myCodonTable->is_unknown_codon(JTG);

Codon tables are also called translation tables or genetics codes since that is what they try to represent. A bit more complete picture of the full complexity of codon usage in various taxonomic groups presented at the NCBI Genetic Codes Home page.

CodonTable is a BioPerl class that knows all current translation tables that are used by primary nucleotide sequence databases (GenBank, EMBL and DDBJ). It provides methods to output information about tables and relationships between codons and amino acids.

This class and its methods recognized all common IUPAC ambiguity codes for DNA, RNA and animo acids. The translation method follows the conventions in EMBL and TREMBL databases.
It is a nuisance to separate RNA and cDNA representations of nucleic acid transcripts. The CodonTable object accepts codons of both type as input and allows the user to set the mode for output when reverse translating. Its default for output is DNA.

Note: This class deals primarily with individual codons and amino acids. However in the interest of speed you can translate longer sequence, too. The full complexity of protein translation is tackled by Bio::PrimarySeqI::translate.

Crossfire TRT 2.1

Crossfire TRT 2.1

Crossfire TRT project is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game. more>>
Crossfire TRT project is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game. Unlike the original project, it focuses mainly on stability and playability, but also adds modern technology such as map scripting, Perl server extensions, asynchronous I/O, higher resolution graphics, and better client support.
Main features:
- Death is not permanent, and you can get back all lost stats and experience by playing a game in a special place named Nimbus. You are teleported there when you die and you have to play a game (currently minesweeper) to get out.
- Friendly fire is disabled and playerkilling is also modified. You can only kill another player when you and the other player are hostile. To become hostile, you have to visit the church of Gorokh in Scorn and talk to the priest. To become peaceful again, visit the curch of Valriel and talk to its priest.
- Invitation of other players to where you are is possible with the invite command. You have to solve the invitor quest (see below in maps) to be able to use the command.
- You can follow other players with the follow command when you stand next to the player you want to follow.
- Pet monsters and summoned creatures will not stand in the way of other party members, making it bearable to play with summoning skills in a party.
- Map and graphics artists are working on improved graphics and new maps and quests.
- A new currency: the Royalty. Its worth 100 Platinum and is made of paper. (The bank script was completly rewritten in Perl)
- The communication commands have been rewritten in Perl and an ignore command was added.
- Trade shops have been implemented in Perl, which allows the player to trade items when they are offline.
- Big 64x64 faces and tiles have been introduced, which have a higher detail level than the old 32x32 tiles, and can be used with the CFPlus client.
Enhancements:
- optimised event invocation (non-wanted events can now be skipped with 4-5 inlined instructions).
- complete rewrite of town_portal: it now creates a portal to the "nearest" town only, travel is only possible to the town and back, anybody can use it (also removes one of the remaining syncpoints in the server).
- complete rewrite of the range/attack skill slot system: there are now two slots, one for combat, one for ranged attacks.
- introduce the concept of a current weapon (either a ranged or a combat weapon/skill/tool) and switch between them as needed.
- rewrite bow code so bows get more useful: apply damage, attacktype and other stats to the arrows and treat bows as weapons. also rebalance the missile weapons skill so its damage increases with level.
- rewrite the complete player speed logic: weapon_speed now works as documented and there are no unnatural speed boosts.
- implement a utility - cfutil - that simplifies arch and map installation, replacing the old collect scripts and simplying deployment by scaling and cutting faces as required.
- simplify the map protocol extensively by taking advantage of missing bigfaces, speeding up map generation immensely.
- implement inherit keyword allowing archetypes to inherit from other archetypes.
- rationalise archetype, region and treasurelist file format into a single file format and make them reloadable asynchronously.
- make the worldmap, facedata (smoothing, faces, magicmap) reloadable at runtime.
- implement 64x64 faceset support.
- implement fxixsx protocol that saves a lot of bandwidth over the old image/face/smooth packets and allows images > packetsize, incremental and background transfers.
- implement a bandwidth-saving smoothing protocol that works on a face basis as opposed to a mapspace basis.
- the server can now rate-limit image uploads to not exceed a certain (client-configurable) speed while guarenteeing full freedom of movement.
- implement new ex command to request item descriptions.
- implement new msg command for in-game messages with meta information (using xml).
- enforce utf-8 for all text messages.
- added micropather (not used yet).
- many, many bugfixes.

Template::Tools::ttree 2.19

Template::Tools::ttree 2.19

Template::Tools::ttree module can process entire directory trees of templates. more>>
Template::Tools::ttree module can process entire directory trees of templates.

SYNOPSIS
ttree [options] [files]

The ttree script is used to process entire directory trees containing template files. The resulting output from processing each file is then written to a corresponding file in a destination directory. The script compares the modification times of source and destination files (where they already exist) and processes only those files that have been modified. In other words, it is the equivalent of make for the Template Toolkit.

It supports a number of options which can be used to configure behaviour, define locations and set Template Toolkit options. The script first reads the .ttreerc configuration file in the HOME directory, or an alternative file specified in the TTREERC environment variable. Then, it processes any command line arguments, including any additional configuration files specified via the -f (file) option.

The .ttreerc Configuration File

When you run ttree for the first time it will ask you if you want it to create a .ttreerc file for you. This will be created in your home directory.

$ ttree

Do you want me to create a sample .ttreerc file for you?

(file: /home/abw/.ttreerc) [y/n]: y
/home/abw/.ttreerc created. Please edit accordingly and re-run ttree

The purpose of this file is to set any global configuration options that you want applied every time ttree is run. For example, you can use the ignore and copy option to provide regular expressions that specify which files should be ignored and which should be copied rather than being processed as templates. You may also want to set flags like verbose and recurse according to your preference.

A minimal .ttreerc:

# ignore these files
ignore = b(CVS|RCS)b
ignore = ^#
ignore = ~$

# copy these files
copy = .(gif|png|jpg|pdf)$

# recurse into directories
recurse

# provide info about whats going on
verbose

In most cases, youll want to create a different ttree configuration file for each project youre working on. The cfg option allows you to specify a directory where ttree can find further configuration files.

cfg = /home/abw/.ttree

The -f command line option can be used to specify which configuration file should be used. You can specify a filename using an absolute or relative path:

$ ttree -f /home/abw/web/example/etc/ttree.cfg
$ ttree -f ./etc/ttree.cfg
$ ttree -f ../etc/ttree.cfg

If the configuration file does not begin with / or . or something that looks like a MS-DOS absolute path (e.g. C:etcttree.cfg) then ttree will look for it in the directory specified by the cfg option.

$ ttree -f test1 # /home/abw/.ttree/test1

The cfg option can only be used in the .ttreerc file. All the other options can be used in the .ttreerc or any other ttree configuration file. They can all also be specified as command line options.

Remember that .ttreerc is always processed before any configuration file specified with the -f option. Certain options like lib can be used any number of times and accumulate their values.

For example, consider the following configuration files:
/home/abw/.ttreerc:

cfg = /home/abw/.ttree
lib = /usr/local/tt2/templates

/home/abw/.ttree/myconfig:

lib = /home/abw/web/example/templates/lib

When ttree is invoked as follows:

$ ttree -f myconfig

the lib option will be set to the following directories:

/usr/local/tt2/templates
/home/abw/web/example/templates/lib

Any templates located under /usr/local/tt2/templates will be used in preference to those located under /home/abw/web/example/templates/lib. This may be what you want, but then again, it might not. For this reason, it is good practice to keep the .ttreerc as simple as possible and use different configuration files for each ttree project.

cdp-tools is a software that provides tools to work with the Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP).
They were written because of a particular hosting center that insisted on learning routes using CDP, and thusly required Cisco Switches for doing their dirty work.
cdp-listen/cdp-routemgr are proof-of-concepts that may be useful if you want to implement a similarly brain-damaged proposal.
cdp-send is a must-have tool if you are in that situation. It can pretend to be just about any kind of Cisco hardware you can imagine.
The source is a bit difficult to follow as a requirement was that it build under both the ancient libnet and the new libnet code. hence, much nasty macro-ing.

Search::Tools::HiLiter 0.06

Search::Tools::HiLiter 0.06

Search::Tools::HiLiter is a Perl module to extract and highlight search results in original text. more>>
Search::Tools::HiLiter is a Perl module to extract and highlight search results in original text.

SYNOPSIS

use Search::Tools::HiLiter;

my $re = Search::Tools::RegExp->new;
my $rekw = $re->build(the quick brown fox);

my $hiliter = Search::Tools::HiLiter->new( rekw => $rekw );

for my $text (@texts)
{
print $hiliter->light( $text );
}

Search::Tools::HiLiter uses HTML tags to highlight text just like a felt-tip HiLiter. S::T::H can handle both plain and marked up text (HTML and XML). Nested entities and tags within keywords are supported.

You create a HiLiter object with either a string, an array of strings, or a Search::Tools::RegExp::Keywords object, and then feed the HiLiter text to highlight. You can control the style and color of the highlight tags.

Some caveats if you are highlighting HTML or XML: Unlike its more powerful cousin HTML::HiLiter, S::T::H knows nothing about context. This can give unexpected results when your keywords appear in the HTML or across block tag boundaries. Use HTML::HiLiter if you need a real HTML parser. It uses the same regular expressions as S::T::H but is designed for full HTML documents rather than smaller fragments.
