Conexus 0.2

Conexus 0.2

Conexus is a set of programs for analyzing neuroanatomical images. more>>
The goal of the Conexus project is to build a graphical database of neuroanatomical connections, focussing on thalamo-cortical and cortico-cortical connections in the macaque monkey.

Conexus will allow users to enter data, and also to search for and analyze patterns of data gathered from different experiments, by different investigators, reported in a variety of journals, together into one unified macaque atlas.

Equipped with the proper search and 3D visualization tools, it will allow students, modelers, and experimentalists to learn about the available data on neuroanatomical connections, or to compare their own findings to existing data.

Currently, the focus of the project is on the alignment tools that are necessary to visualize large numbers of immunohistologically stained sections together in 3D.

Conexus is the successor to an earlier project called XANAT. Funding for Conexus comes from the Human Brain Project at NIH, as part of the Human Brain Project at UC Davis (Ted Jones, PI).

Camorama 0.18

Camorama 0.18

Camorama is a webcam application featuring various image filters. more>>
Camorama is a webcam application featuring various image filters.
Camorama allows you to view video from your webcam and apply various image filters to it. Camorama project can also upload images via ftp.
Camorama is a program i wrote to learn gtk and v4l. As you can see, i am still learning. It is pretty simple at the moment, and i hope to make it much more complete. I also plan to make it more generic, as i initially wrote it with only my own creative webcam 3 in mind.
Hopefully it will work with other cameras. i will test on anything i can get my hands on, but that might take a while. Right now you can change the video settings using the gui and apply some crappy filters i wrote to mess around with.
It runs at a reasonable speed, but i would like to get the fps up as high as possible. Still figuring that out. As for requirements, you will need at least gnome 2 and v4l. I havent used anything else crazy, and that should do it.
Enhancements:
- Lots of bug fixes.

Port Scanner 2.1

Port Scanner 2.1

Port Scanner provides a tool to check for open ports. more>>
Port Scanner provides a tool to check for open ports.

Port Scanner will try to connect on every port you define for a particular host. If a connection is made, it will try to read any data returned.

This product is intended for individuals to test their own equipment for weak security, and the author will take no responsibility if it is put to any other use.

Amazon sell many books on Security that will enhance your ability to keep your computer secure.

The Windows version has been withdrawn. Apologies for this, but it is too popular and uses my bandwidth up too quickly. If anyone want to host the binary for me, I will happily post a link here. It should also be possible to compile Version 2.1 for Windows.

Whats New in this release:

.(QT) Takes multiple port ranges.
.Minor bugfixes.

rccrypt 1.7

rccrypt 1.7

RC-Crypt is a program to keep your data safe. more>>
RC-Crypt is a program to keep your data safe. It is an easy to use command line program that encrypts your data. It works with big and little endian hardware, and has been tested on Linux, HPUX and Solaris. It uses the rc5 algorithm, which has proved almost impossible to crack with key sizes of greater than 64 bits.

(See www.distributed.net for details of how long it took thousands of computers worldwide to crack a 64 bit key when the initial content of the data was known.)
It has a multitude of options making it very suitable for inclusion into complex scripts.

How to use this program.

1. Compile it.
The program uses glibc, so make sure that is installed on your system. A Makefile has been created, that will allow you to build it using
make
If you wish to add options, feel free to do so

2.Copy both the rccrypt and the rcc program to somewhere you can run it.
Find the places you could copy it to using
echo $PATH
(It is likely you will need root access for most of these.)

3. Use it.
rccrypt will encrypt or decrypt the input given to it according to the rc5 Algorithm as described by RSA Laboratories.

This is the syntax of the program:
rccrypt [-d] [-p] [ -r rounds] [-k key | -f file | -e env_var] [-i infile] [-o outfile] [-w]

Distributed Artificial Life 1.0.0

Distributed Artificial Life 1.0.0

Distributed Artificial Life project uses spare CPU cycles to create life. more>>
Distributed Artificial Life project uses spare CPU cycles to create life.

Distributed Artificial Life is a distributed version of Tom S. Rays Tierra artificial life program. It uses spare CPU cycles to simulate a distributed soup of living cells.

Note that the machine language used is similar to but not compatible with Tierra. Tom Ray talks about his work (as far as I know, never completed) to create a "Digital Reserve". The DLIFE project is a development of this.

In other words, its an alternative to the tedious process of cracking RC5 keys or searching for aliens. Youve got a supercomputer on your desk, lets go and create some life ...

It consists of a highly optimized engine for running the artificial life cells in a virtual machine, written in C, and some Perl scripts which can upload and download cells from central ``cell-bank servers.

GNOME Terminator 0.3

GNOME Terminator 0.3

GNOME Terminator project is an attempt to maximise useful space on a given desktop for terminals. more>>
GNOME Terminator project is an attempt to maximise useful space on a given desktop for terminals. I’m a sysadmin by trade, so I live in ssh sessions and thus terminals. An extra line here and there over all those hours seems like it’s worth trying for.

NOTE: At least zsh doesn’t work in Terminator at the moment. Bash does for me and I am investigating the causes

This is a pretty simple python script which places multiple vte widgets in a window. That’s the same widget used by gnome-terminal. At the moment I haven’t cloned all gnome-terminal behaviours, so there are unexpected and bugful behaviours.

gjrand 1.2.0

gjrand 1.2.0

gjrand is a programmers library for pseudo-random numbers. more>>
gjrand is a programmers library for pseudo-random numbers. gjrand library includes random number generator testing code and is intended for simulation, games, and "Monte-Carlo" algorithms.
It produces pseudo-random numbers of the types: uniform integers, uniform reals, normally distributed reals, binomial, Poisson, integer permutation, chi-squared distribution, and spherical distribution.
The library provides API calls for the following:
- seed the generator
- save and restore state
- generate integer uniform random numbers
- generate integer special: coins, biased coins, dice, shuffle, poisson
- generate floating point uniform numbers
- generate floating point special:
normal distribution
chi-square distribution
in a n-dimensional sphere
on the surface of a n-dimensional sphere
- compatibility functions for rand() family and rand48() family.
- Except for most of the compatibility functions, gjrand should be thread-safe. It is written in C, but appears to also be legal C++.
- There are also test programs that test all of the above and could also be used or adapted to test other alleged random sources. Some alternative (mostly bad) pseudo random generators are also provided so you can amuse yourself by watching tests fail.
Enhancements:
- There is now a function for "Student" T distribution.
- The algorithm for normal distribution and several related ones has changed yet again.
- There is one new test program for the T distribution, an additional test program for uniform bits, and minor tweaks to several other tests.

FreeMIS 1.05

FreeMIS 1.05

FreeMIS project is developing a free and better alternative to the commercial MIS products. more>>
FreeMIS project is developing a free and better alternative to the commercial MIS products. All the FreeMIS files and data are stored on a web server, and the FreeMIS system is accessed via the Internet. Users simply need an Internet connection and a modern web browser (preferrably Firefox, but Internet Explorer 6 and Safari work fine).
Each user has a unique username and password, which grant them access to the system. At present, only teachers can access the system, but the design of FreeMIS is ready for access by any of the stakeholders in the school system - students, parents, governors etc.
At present, FreeMIS is used to write reports to parents on pupil progress. Using FreeMIS, teachers can write reports at a time and place of their own choosing. Some choose to write reports in school, but many now write their reports from home.
Main features:
- Password protected access, to ensure security of data.
- Web-based, so it can be accessed on any computer connected to the Internet, without the need for special software.
- Storage of pupil and staff data
- Storage of class enrollment and course data
- Production of reports to parents/guardians on pupil progress
- Monitoring of pupil progress through a tracking and target setting system, which includes the automatic generation of letters to parents/guardians
- Noting of unexplained absences, which automatically generates a warning email to the school office
The FreeMIS project aims to provide schools with a high quality alternative to the proprietary Management Information Systems that abound in schools in the UK and beyond.
We at the FreeMIS project believe that the best way to create a high quality MIS is to develop it as an Open Source project. This means that the system and the code from which it is built will always be freely available.
At present, FreeMIS only offers a subset of the functionality of a comprehensive MIS. Development is ongoing, however, and FreeMIS has stood the test of being used in a Scottish High School.
Becta has recently published a report highlighting the financial savings possible if schools move towards Open Source alternatives. FreeMIS aims to be part of the package that schools will adopt.
Enhancements:
- Added user/admin_edit screen to simplify administration
- Cleaned up xhtml
- Fixed bug #1497176
- Refactored code to make it more DRY
- Removed historic tables from old PHP version
- Improved admin screen to edit pupil sets
- Increased coverage of unit/functional tests
- Cleared up css for reports, and switched full reports to print on blank page, rather than having fancy hiding of navigation stuff for printing.
- Fixed bug that made reports vanish if pupil was dropped from a pupil set
- Put together all academic_year related details on one form for ease of administration
- Gave Heads of Faculties write access to all faculty reports
