uspell project is a spelling tester/teacher for elementary school. more>>
uspell project is a spelling tester/teacher for elementary school.

uspell is a sound-card based spelling tester.

The words to be spelled are spoken aloud by the computers sound hardware and the user is then prompted to spell the word via the keyboard.

To set up the rewards: make a directory, call it $base. Then "uspell -set $base", and dictate congratulatory statements for reward1 .. reward9 (or fewer).

I suggest parents or teacher perform this step, so the voice for the reward is not the same as the voice for the words. My list of rewards is pretty simple ("Hooray", "Good job", "Congratulations", "Atta-boy"). A final closing remark (like "You did it, thats the end") can be put in $base/reward-end.raw. Configure $base below to match your choice $base.

I expect the child him/her self to dictate the spelling words. "uspell -set unit_name", and it will give instructions from there. It may take some practice to
pause the right amount of time between hitting and saying the word. A *nix guru may be helpful cleaning up messes.

I expect the child himself/herself to dictate the words, and someone else to dictate the rewards, so there is an additional distinction between the words to type, and the rewards.

GNU Aspell 0.60.4

GNU Aspell 0.60.4

GNU Aspell is an intelligent spell checker. more>>
GNU Aspell is a Free and Open Source spell checker designed to eventually replace Ispell. The project can either be used as a library or as an independent spell checker.
Its main feature is that it does a superior job of suggesting possible replacements for a misspelled word than just about any other spell checker out there for the English language. Unlike Ispell, Aspell can also easily check documents in UTF-8 without having to use a special dictionary.
Aspell will also do its best to respect the current locale setting. Other advantages over Ispell include support for using multiple dictionaries at once and intelligently handling personal dictionaries when more than one Aspell process is open at once.
Main features:
- Is an actual library that other programs can link to instead of having to use it through a pipe.
- Does a much better job of suggesting possible replacements for a misspelled word than Ispell does or for that matter any other spell checker I have seen. If you know a spell checker that does a better job please let me know.
- Can learn from users misspellings.
- Can easily check documents in UTF-8 without having to use a special dictionary.
- Has support for using multiple dictionaries at once.
- Is multiprocess intelligent. When a personal dictionary (or replacement list) is saved it will now first update the list against the dictionary on disk in case another process modified it.
- Can share the memory used in the main word list between processes.
- A better, more complete word list for the English language. Word lists are provided for American, British, and Canadian spelling. Special care has been taken to only include one spelling for each word in any particular word list. The word list included in Ispell by contrast only included support for American and British and also tends to included multiple spellings for a word which can mask some spelling errors.

aspell-da 1.6.7

aspell-da 1.6.7

aspell-da is an aspell dictionary for spell-checking Danish texts. more>>
aspell-da is an aspell dictionary for spell-checking Danish texts. aspell-da is based on "Den store danske ordliste" (The Comprehensive Danish Dictionary).

The Comprehensive Danish Dictionary (DSDO) is a free spell-checking dictionary for Danish published by Skane Sjeland Linux User Group (SSLUG). One thing which makes this dictionary different from most other dictionaries is that it basically is the result of a vote among the proof-readers. The editorial group has _not_ proof-read all the words in the dictionary, but guides the proof-readers and keeps track of the overall status of the dictionary.

If you have a superkaramba theme running already its even simpler. Right-click the open theme and select superkaramba - manage themes.

Gnusto 0.7

Gnusto 0.7

Gnusto is a Javascript-based interpreter for Z-machine adventure games. more>>
Gnusto project is a Javascript-based interpreter for Z-machine adventure games.

Gnusto is a Mozilla app which lets you play adventure games-- specifically, the hundreds of games both modern and ancient available in the Z-machine format.
You can try out the most recent version at the installation / release notes page. And we need testers! The more people who test it now, the better the program will eventually be.

Were very close to full standards compliance for version 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 stories, the most common versions. Longer-term ideas along the way are the ability to download stories from the IF Archive (with help from Bafs Guide), a disassembler (already written and awaiting integration), a source-level debugger for Inform, and possibly integration with the Inform tool chain to produce some kind of IDE.

The name "gnusto" comes from a spell in the Enchanter series. Its use in this project was suggested by Boluc Papuccuoglu in a thread about the project on rec.games.int-fiction.

  2. Renders maps, with somewhat natural lighting
  3. You can move around in "ghost-mode" using WASD or arrow keys and mouse
  4. Partially displays creature meshes, using leveled creature lists
  5. Very basic sound and music support

Ogrian Carpet 0.9

Ogrian Carpet 0.9

Ogrian Carpet is a 3D fantasy action/strategy game. more>>
Ogrian Carpet project is a 3D fantasy action/strategy game.
Ogrian Carpet is an outdoor first person shooter game with real time strategy elements, inspired by the game Magic Carpet.
It uses Ogre3D as the renderer and allows you to fly around an island casting spells, summoning monsters, collecting mana, and building castles.
The object of the game is to build a castle, collect mana, and destroy your enemies. To build a castle, select a location, look at the ground, and cast the build spell. Note, you cannot build castles very close to water or other castles.
Your castle starts out small, with only one turret. As more mana is added to your castle, it will gain more turrets. Each turret adds another crane to your castles defense and another spell to your arsenal.
Basically, the game consists of fighting for control of mana. Whenever you encounter another wizard, shoot them with fireballs. If you hit them enough, they will "die" and be sent back to their castle. You are then free to claim all the mana in the area for yourself.
Once all the mana has been claimed, attack your enemys castle to get mana out of it so you can claim it for yourself. Once you enemys castle is out of mana, you can eliminate it by killing its heart. When all of your opponents have been banished, youve won.
Enhancements:
- AI bot player for skirmish
- things can now be loaded from an image, rather then randomly
- option for old randomized maps
- trees can now always bee seen
- made castle mana drops aggregate more
- loosened the restrictions on summoning
- made the config menu better
- added victory conditions to skirmish: kill all enemy towers/castles
- made ticks and gnomes stay in the formation you put them in
- made monsters and towers drop less then their cost when they have no wizard
- made mana float higher
- made towers cheaper (50)
- made sentinels drop much less (3)
- changed speed behavior on lava maps
- added victory music
- new music

CrossTeX 0.5.5

CrossTeX 0.5.5

CrossTeX is a new bibliography management tool. more>>
CrossTeX is a new bibliography management tool. The project comprises a new bibliographic database format that is much less prone to error compared to other alternatives like BibTex, and a new, more flexible tool for creating the citations that appear at the end of scholarly texts.

CrossTeX was borne out of the authors frustration with inconsistencies and errors in BibTex-formatted scholarly papers.

The main feature of CrossTeX is that it is object-oriented. You can define a "conference" object, and simply refer to it. You can similarly define "location" objects, with a long and short form, and refer to them. You can specify that a conference object in a particular year was held in one location, and none of your paper information need ever repeat this information again. You can spell the name of an author correctly just once, and simply reuse that object instead of having to re-spell it every time.

In contrast, BibTex is based on a relational database, where every reference contains copies of the fields it uses. It is not uncommon for a database file to have the same conference name, author or location repeated numerous times, often with errors and inconsistencies.

CrossTeX is backwards-compatible with BibTex. You can use a BibTex database with CrossTeX, and invoke crosstex where you used to invoke bibtex. It is particularly well-suited for use in Computer Science and Engineering, with support for frequently cited publication formats and an extensive library of published articles at top conferences.
