FFT Spectra 1.3

FFT Spectra 1.3

FFT Spectra is a tool for the visualization of frequency spectra of an audio signal. more>>
FFT Spectra is a tool for the visualization of frequency spectra of an audio signal.

Among other things, it can be used to verify whether you are able to sing and whistle in tune or to tune your guitar.

Examples:

Didgeridoo

Didgeridoo is actually the reason, why i started writing this software. The theory of physics explains that when you blow into a cylindrical tube (such as didgeridoo, but PVC pipe works as well) and vibrate your lips, standing waves develop inside the tube.

At that end of the tube, where the air leaves, there is nearly atmospheric pressure and the standing wave has a node there. At the other end, where one blows the air in, the changes in pressure are maximal and the standing wave must have an antinode here.

The situation is depicted on the picture on the right: The horizontal axis represents a position along the tube and the vertical axis represents a maximal pressure variation from the constant atmospheric pressure. The black vertical line represents a zero variation. The left black point is the mouth-side enpoint of the tube. The pressure variation are maximal here. The black point on the right is the open side od the tube - the pressure is constant here.

This node/antinode restriction permits only standing waves with appropriate wavelength (e.g. frequency) to be developed. Other frequencies are forbidden. So, the red curve is a minimal (fundamental) frequency, which is present in the didgeridoo sound. (Corresponds to 70Hz on the picture bellow).

If we squeezed the red curve twice, i.e. made the frequency twice as high, on both end-points there would be an antinode and the node/antinode constrain would not be fulfilled. Really, we see that the peak at 140Hz bellow almost disappears. If we squeeze the curve a little bit more to obtain the green curve, the boundary condition is again met and the peak at 210Hz is clearly visible bellow. And so on.

Harminv 1.3.1

Harminv 1.3.1

Harminv is a free program and C library for harmonic inversion. more>>
Harminv is a free program and C library for harmonic inversion: decomposing a time-series into a sum of sinusoids, including exponentially decaying sinusoids.
Harminv is based on the "filter diagonalization method" (FDM) of Mandelshtam & Taylor, which maps the harmonic inversion problem onto a small eigen-problem (size proportional to the number of sinusoids).
The FDM is often able to obtain much more robust and accurate solutions than alternative methods.
Enhancements:
- An inconsistent sign convention used for phase output was fixed.

libextractor 0.5.18a

libextractor 0.5.18a

libextractor is a library used to extract meta-data from files of arbitrary type. more>>
libextractor is a library that is used to extract meta-data from files of arbitrary type. It is designed to use helper-libraries to perform the actual extraction, and to be trivially extendable by linking against external extractors for additional file types. libextractor is part of the GNU project. Our official GNU website can be found at http://www.gnu.org/software/libextractor/. libextractor can be downloaded from this site or the GNU mirrors.
The goal is to provide developers of file-sharing networks or WWW-indexing bots with a universal library to obtain simple keywords to match against queries. libextractor contains a shell-command "extract" that, similar to the well-known "file" command, can extract meta-data from a file an print the results to stdout.
Currently, libextractor supports the following formats: HTML, PDF, PS, OLE2 (DOC, XLS, PPT), OpenOffice (sxw), StarOffice (sdw), DVI, MAN, MP3 (ID3v1 and ID3v2), OGG, WAV, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, DEB, RPM, TAR(.GZ), ZIP, ELF, REAL, RIFF (AVI), MPEG, QT and ASF.
Also, various additional MIME types are detected.
libextractor is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes various build problems and a crash with recent versions of libgsf.
vAn incomplete manual was added.

Libuninum 2.5

Libuninum 2.5

Libuninum is a library for converting Unicode strings to numbers. more>>
Libuninum is a library for converting Unicode strings to numbers. Standard functions like strtoul and strtod do this for numbers written in the usual Western number system using the Indo-Arabic numerals, but they do not handle other number systems.
The main functions take as input a UTF-32 Unicode string and compute the corresponding unsigned integer. For example, they will convert the Chinese string ??????????? to the integer 594,321 and the Devanagari string ????? to the integer 78,492. Internal computation is done using arbitrary precision arithmetic, so there is no limit on the size of the integer that can be converted.
The value of the string is returned in one of two forms. One option is a string of ASCII characters containing the decimal representation of the integer using the Indo-Arabic digits. This option has the virtue of avoiding any possibility of overflow or truncation. The other option is to obtain the value as an unsigned long integer.
If you are going to do internal calculations, this is probably the most convenient option, but some numbers (in fact, infinitely many) will not fit into an unsigned long integer. The library guarantees that no overflow or truncation will occur; if the number will not fit, it sets an error flag and returns 0.
Enhancements:
- This version adds support for the more exotic forms of Roman numerals.
- Roman numeral compatibility characters are now accepted.

xen-tools 3.7

xen-tools 3.7

xen-tools is a collection of scripts which allow you to manipulate virtual images for the Xen virtualization software. more>>
xen-tools project is a collection of scripts which allow you to manipulate virtual images for the Xen virtualization software.
With the tools installed, you may create new instances of Debian, complete with networking, OpenSSH, and user accounts, with one simple command. Images may also be easily updated, listed, or deleted.
Main features:
- Create new Xen instances of Debian Sarge, in minutes. (xen-create-image)
- Duplicate an existing image, whilst updating the networking information. (xen-duplicate-image)
- List all existing images with their networking details (xen-list-images)
- Delete previously created instances. (xen-delete-image)
- Update the images youve created with apt-get, without booting them. (xen-update-image)
Creating A New Image:
The script will contains a full manual written using the perl documentation system, perldoc, which you can read by executing:
xen-create-image --manual
This manual describes the operation of the script, and the supported options. (Each of the available options may be setup in a configuration file for ease of use.)
As a very simple example the following command willcreate an image using DHCP to obtain its networking information. The primary disk will 2Gb with 128Mb memory and swap:
xen-create-image --hostname=vm01 --dir=/home/xen
--size=2Gb --swap=128Mb --memory=128Mb --dhcp
If you wish to give the instance a static IP address then provide the information with the following flags:
--ip
The IP address to give the instance.
--gateway
The IP address of the gateway machine.
--broadcast
The broadcast address to use.
--network
The network the image is upon.
--netmask
The netmask to use.
Enhancements:
- This release supports the installation of RPM-based distributions via the external rinse tool, which is more reliable than the rpmstrap utility.
- New guests will now have a random MAC address generated by default, to avoid issues with udev, and several other minor bugfixes were applied.

ost 1.0

ost 1.0

ost is a simple yet powerful tool providing mechanisms to automatically audit, maintain and backup systems customizations. more>>
ost is a simple yet powerful tool providing mechanisms to automatically audit, maintain and backup systems customizations. ost is particularly well suited to environments where most systems are similarly configured, but will operate just as well if each system is unique.
ost uses at least one of the following two sets of input:
- the systems file catalog if it exists
- user defined "templates" to override the systems catalog
These allow ost to build a virtual image of what the local filesystem is supposed to look like. This image is then compared to the actual state of the local filesystem to obtain the following information about the system:
- List of intact files
- List of modified files
- List of missing files
- List of additional files

Felix Programming Language 1.1.1

Felix Programming Language 1.1.1

Felix Programming Language is a high performance, statically typed scripting language. more>>
Felix is an advanced Algol like procedural programming language with a strong functional subsystem. It features ML style typing, first class functions, pattern matching, garabge collection, polymorphism, and has built in support for high performance microthreading, regular expressions and context free parsing.

The system provides a scripting harness so the language can be used like other scripting languages, but underneath it generates native code to obtain high performance.

A key feature of the system is that it uses the C++ object model, and provides an advanced binding sublanguage to support integration with C++ at both the source and object levels, both for embedding C++ data types and functions into Felix, and for embedding Felix into exitsing C++ architectures.

The Felix compiler is written in Objective Caml, and generates ISO C++ which should compile on any platform.

VETH 1.0

VETH 1.0

VETH is a daemon that creates a virtual ethernet card in Linux. more>>
VETH is a daemon that creates a virtual ethernet card in Linux. This is done via the Universal TUN/ TAP Driver. It is useful to request more than one IP address via DHCP with a virtual ethernet card attached to an existing NIC.

Linux has an implementation that does the work, but partially. Sometimes, this emulation doesnt work as expected. Because of this, I wrote VETH, to be helpful in this situations.

For example, if you want to have more than one IP address obtained via DHCP probably you know thats impossible. With VETH you can attach a virtual ethernet into an existent NIC card, and the run dhclient in it to obtain a new IP.

Perhaps you are saying "hey, man, dont mess with me, I can do that with aliasing. With an ifconfig eth0:1 I have a new ethernet". OK, perhaps, perhaps...

It isnt 100% true. Look at this scenario:

You have a DSL modem working as a bridge. You have a firewall with exactly 2 NICs, no more. One of these NICs is crossover-connected to your modem, and another is in your internal subnet.

Realms of Rivalry

Realms of Rivalry

Realms of Rivalry is an online tactical rpg. more>>
Realms of Rivalry is an online tactical rpg. Play short skirmishes in random-generated game worlds.
The game can be summarized as an online graphical turn-based strategy/rpg game where you can play short tactical skirmishes with 2-4 players in small random-generated game worlds. The game is free and can be played either as an applet or downloadable client.
The time-limited turns (30-90 secs) give the game a semi-realtime feel, and the game has sometimes been characterized as "chess on steroids".
Main features:
- Community friendly game lobby where you can chat with others and join realms.
- Up to 4 players simultaneously battling on the same realm.
- Players control teams of 3 characters: Warrior, Archer and Mage.
- Time-limited turn-based gameplay.
- Random-generated game worlds (realms).
- CPU controlled monsters.
- Several weapons, armor, traps and other items.
- Occlusion calculation used in combat situations.
- Interrupts.
- Different types of terrain.
- Buy & sell items at vendors.
- Monster respawning.
- Ingame chat.
- Detailed end-of-game summary panel.
Explore the map and kill creatures to obtain weapons, potions, runes, traps and more to aid you in your quest for domination!
The game development has been very "test-driven" in the sense that the game quickly was made playable and that features and changes were added and removed continuously during development. This hopefully improves gameplay, but of course at the expense of dramatically increased development time.
Realms of rivalry was never intended to "soothe the masses", but were made entirely to match the game that we ourselves would like to play - something we have done for many, many hours :-) But of course, some of you might enjoy this game aswell, and that is why we decided to share it with you!.
