tag-not-ed is a TAGged NOTes EDitor.
This is the homepage of tag-not-ed, my favourite program. [You might have read this before somewhere else] Give it a try if you feel like it.
It is a system which allows you to create and manage text documents by attaching tags to them.
Later, documents can be retrieved by running queries on those tags (e.g., "show me all docs that deal with dogs and cats").

Pytego 0.02
Pytego project is a networkable Stratego clone created with Pygame. more>>
Pytego project is a networkable "Stratego" clone created with Pygame.
Pytego is a two-player, cross-platform networked clone of the classic boardgame "Stratego" from Milton Bradley developed using Pygame and SDL.
I could not find a good, networkable, free version of Stratego -- so I wrote my own. Mostly because I was interested in developing a game, partially because I think Python is a terrific language and partially because I was bored (sssh!).
This is the initial release of Pytego. Download it, try it out and send me your comments, questions, suggestions, and bug reports. Also, Im no artist, so send me new tiles and new graphics for the units -- anything! On my TODO list is support for user-customizable tilesets and icons.
Id like to acknowledge the Civil developers for inspiration (and their clear, easy-to-use networking code). Id also like to acknowledge David Clarkes Newbie Guide for convincing me to not worry about the "side issues" (rule #8) and to do things the "pythony way" (rule #13).
Enhancements:
- Reuse the "box" as the status area after the game has started, this way theres not a HUGE blank, white area after all the pieces have been placed.

dnshistory 1.3
dnshistory provides a means for storing a history of DNS/name changes over time. more>>
dnshistory project provide a means for storing a history of DNS and Name changes for the IP Addresses extracted from web log files.
The major target being that multiple analyses of older log files do not require re-lookups of IP Address to FQDNs, and additionally maintain the accuracy of the lookup as it was then and not as it is now.
Main features:
- Do Lookups. The default mode. Given a web log file, dnshistory will perform DNS reverse lookups on each unique IP Address and store the results in a history database.
- Do Translations. Given a raw web log file, dnshistory will make use of a previously created history database and send to STDOUT the same web log but with addresses replaced by the Fully Qualified Domain Name as previously looked up.
- Do Recombining. Given two web log files, one raw and one previously translated (eg. by using dnstran): Create a history database from the values in these separate log files.
- Do Dump. Dump a given history database to STDOUT.
- Show History. Given one or more IP Addresses on the command line, display their history from the database.
Its quite possible that most users would only ever use the first two modes.
The lookups make use of threads for near maximum speed, and use the standard resolution libraries on a system. Thus hosts files, NIS, LDAP and other name resolution methods should work transparently. Unfortunately most other tools ignore local name resolution methods in favour of DNS lookups only.
It is strongly recommended that for massive raw lookups a DNS server is "nearby". Preferably not a forwarding server, or your upstream provider will not like you.
dnshistory can read .gz files. Any input sent via STDIN is currently assumed to not be gz encoded.
dnshistory assumes that the logs being sent are already sorted into oldest --> most_recent date/time order.
A Berkeley Database is used to store the history; as well as possibly reducing the memory footprint within a run.
dnshistory is released under the General Public License.
Enhancements:
- This is practically identical to 1.3-beta1.

OOoPy 0.2
OOoPy is a Python library for modifying OpenOffice.org documents. more>>
OOoPy is a Python library for modifying OpenOffice.org documents. It provides a set of transformations on the OOo XML format using the ElementTree XML Library.
Transformations included are a mail merge application and the concatenation of documents with formatting intact. The framework supports easy creation of new transformations.
OpenOffice.org (OOo) documents are ZIP archives containing several XML files. Therefore it is easy to inspect, create, or modify OOo documents. OOoPy is a library in Python for these tasks with OOo documents.
To not reinvent the wheel, OOoPy uses an existing XML library, ElementTree by Fredrik Lundh. OOoPy is a thin wrapper around ElementTree using Pythons ZipFile to read and write OOo documents.
In addition to being a wrapper for ElementTree, OOoPy contains a framework for applying XML transforms to OOo documents. Several Transforms for OOo documents exist, e.g., for changing OOo fields (OOo Insert-Fields menu) or using OOo fields for a mail merge application. Some other transformations for modifying OOo settings and meta information are also given as examples.
Applications like this come in handy in applications where calling native OOo is not an option, e.g., in server-side Web applications.
Dont be alarmed by the Alpha-Status of the Software: Reading and writing of OOo documents is stable as well as most transforms.
The only problematic transform is mailmerge: The OOo format is well documented but there are ordering constraints in the body of an OOo document. Ive not yet figured out all the tags and their order in the OOo body. Another known shortcoming of OOoPys mailmerge is the renumbering of body parts of an OOo document.
Individual parts (like e.g., frames, sections, tables) need to have their own unique names. After a mailmerge, there are duplicate names for some items. So far Im renumbering only frames, sections, and tables. See the renumber objects at the end of ooopy/Transforms.py.
Enhancements:
- The Concatenate code was refactored and cleaned up.
- The Attribute_Changer API was generalized to Attribute_Access and the Pagecount transform was replaced by get_meta.
- The Mailmerge transform now computes new page, paragraph, and character count meta information.

AIM Sniff 1.0 Beta
AIM Sniff is a utility for monitoring and archiving AOL Instant Messenger messages across a network. more>>
AIM Sniff is a utility for monitoring and archiving AOL Instant Messenger messages across a network.
You can either do a live dump (actively sniff the network) or read a PCAP file and parse the file for IM messages. You also have the option of dumping the information to a MySQL database, a flat file, STDOUT, or any combination of the three.
AIM Sniff allows administrators to see how often users are chatting to monitor for abuse and you can also use AIM Sniff to monitor for cases of harassment or pirated software trading. It has been tested on FreeBSD, Linux, and OS X.
AIM Sniff is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
Enhancements:
- Several bugfixes from the alpha release are included, as well as a few feature enhancements.
- Daemon mode is now working, and there is a feature to not use a handles file (useful when using the software behind a NAT).
- In addition, the install will prompt for MySQL admin credentials for creating the database.
- Issues with the MSN message types crashing the DB and connections to the DB timing out after a period of time have been fixed.
- Also fixed is "noise" from database SQL statements.

Bist 0.4.4
Bist stands for bidimensional structures and is a chemical drawing tool. more>>
Bist stands for bidimensional structures (in italian it sounds like "beast" in english ) and is a chemical drawing tool. It is focused on organic chemistry but it may be useful also for chemists or teacher as well.
Bist support many of the formalism used to describe molecoles structures like single bond, double bond, stereospecific bond, charges, resonance arrows, lone pairs etc...
Bist project can export both postscript and png (poor drawing at this time) formats.
This version is now integrated with openbabel API so virtually all the formats this library can accept should be a valid input for bist too.
Currently portability is not my goal so only GNU/Linux platform is supported. However any effort in this direction is appreciated so feel free to ask me about any porting question. Please remember that bist is actually in a beta stage of development so i strongly suggest you to not using it except for testing or hacking purpose.
Main features:
- Input in native and more than 20 different formats(CML, XYZ, mol etc.) ;
- export in SVG, PostScript, FIG and PNG format via plotutils;
- simple template system;
- support for i18n;
- plug-in system;
- translation, scaling, flipping, 3D and 2D rotation;
- unlimited undo level;
- parsing of linear fragments (i.e. -CH2CH(C=OOH)2).

Damn Small Linux Not 0.1 RC4
Damn Small Linux Not provides a reliable, and compact array of applications based mostly on the GTK2 libraries. more>>
Damn Small Linux Not is built on Damn Small Linux technology. Damn Small Linux Not is also small, bigger than DSL but smaller than most. Damn Small Linux Not provides a reliable, and compact array of applications based mostly on the GTK2 libraries.
DSL-N is not an evolution of DSL, it is not intended as progress over the philosophy of DSL, but is intended for a different user, or the same user under different circumstances.
Main features:
- it is small
- it has software which is feature full
- it takes advantage of redundant lib dependencies and suits to pack features into a tight distribution
- DSL-N has a modern kernel and does not squeeze out critical modules that would limit compatibility
Like DSL, DSL-n can:
- Boot from from a CD as a live Linux distribution (LiveCD)
- Boot from a USB pen drive
- Boot from within a host operating system (thats right, it can run *inside* Windows)
- Run very nicely from an IDE Compact Flash drive via a method we call "frugal install"
- Transform into a Debian OS with a traditional hard drive install
- Run fully in RAM
- Modularly grow -- DSL-N is highly extendable without the need to customize
- The applications in DSL-N were chosen because they are functional, usable, and relatively compact. Unlike DSL, DSL-N has GTK2 applications, that means DSL-N will need more ram and CPU cycles than DSL. To have a pleasant experience, we recommend at least 64MBs and 300MHz.
DSL-N, unlike DSL, does not have a hard size cap, but it is being developed by the DSL team, and we hate bloat! So, dont expect DSL-N to get too big.
Why are you making this offshoot of DSL when DSL is so successful? Because a 50MB, GTK2 based distribution, with a 2.6.x kernel and excellent hardware detection/support is a contradiction in terms. DSL-N represents our best effort to stay compact while providing for the needs of those who want the Bling Bling such as SATA support, Gnumeric, Abiword, gMplayer.
Enhancements:
- Added "noprompt noeject" to default boot options for frugal installs.
- Fixed madwifi wireless.
- Fixed chpasswd vs passwd. "secure" boot option now works correctly.
- Added gnu-utils into the base iso.
- Fixed USB2 not loading bug
- Improved mydsl=hdxy when specified to not also search this makes it consistent with restore boot option.
- Enhanced exitcheck to prompt warning if no backup device is selected when requested to save special settings.
- Fixed multi user hard drive install bug.
- Added murgaLua Lua/Fltk development toolkit.

LINGOT Is Not a Guitar-Only Tuner 0.7.2
LINGOT is a musical instrument tuner. more>>
LINGOT is a musical instrument tuner. LINGOT is easy to use, accurate, and highly configurable. Originally conceived to tune electric guitars, its configurability gives it a more general character. (Tuning another instruments has not been tested).
It looks like an analogic tuner, with a gauge indicating the relative shift to a certain note --found automatically as the closest note to the estimated frequency--, indicating that note and its frequency.
The note will be found automatically, since the program hasnt any manual function mode (indicating the note to tune manually), for mantaining its general purpose.
We recommend using the tuner in conjunction with a sound mixer for selecting the desired recording source and the signal recording levels.
Main features:
- Accurate.
- Easy to use. Just plug in your instrument and run tuner.
- Very configurable via GUI. Its possible to change any parameter while the program is running, without editing any file.
- It works in an automatic way. It isnt necessary specify the note to tune; the program guesses it.
- Its free software. It has GPL license.
- Tuning other instruments than guitars is possible. Since this program guesses the note you are playing, it can be used to tune a piano, a bass, a violin, etc.
Enhancements:
- Files have been reorganized to a more "GNU-like" structure.
- Multi-lingual support has been added.
