Free to customize software for linux

BoboMail is a so called webmail application, which provides mail access through a web interface.
It is distributed under the GNU GPL. See COPYING in the package or go to http://www.gnu.org for details.
The first version of BoboMail was used for about a year and a half in the intranet of the Computer Club Ostfriesland (one of Germanys largest computer clubs, see http://www.cco-ev.de if you understand German). I wrote my own webmailer, because at that time only some Perl scripts were available, which were not easy to customize (e.g. German interface).
The name of BoboMail comes from former name of ZPublisher, a cgi framework used by the developer.

The BoboMail distribution contains Zopes ZPublisher and ZTemplates. These compoments underly the Zope Public License (ZPL). They are packages with BoboMail for easier installation. BoboMail is hosted at Sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net). Change Control Request Manager is an online system for managing change requests for businesses. Change Control Request Manager project can be customized to fit the needs of a particular business.

Scalix Community Edition Raw (CE Raw) is functionally equivalent to Scalixs Community Edition software except that its components are individually available, making it easy to customize.

Scalix Community Edition Raw includes manual installation instructions via a community Wiki, with links to required third-party components. It is available for the Debian Linux distribution as well as Red Hat and SUSE Linux.

The intent is to make it easy for Linux system admins, developers, and enthusiasts to to adapt an email and calendaring system for their needs and the needs of the community.

mtop (MySQL top) monitors a MySQL database showing the queries which are taking the most amount of time to complete.

Installation:

To install mtop, run the following:

perl Makefile.PL
make
make install

Run:

perl Makefile.PL --prefix={install_prefix}

or change the PREFIX line in Makefile.PL to customize install location. The default {install_prefix} is /usr/local which means mtop will be installed in /usr/local/bin/.

Guile is a library designed to help programmers create flexible applications. Using Guile in an application allows programmers to write plug-ins, or modules (there are many names, but the concept is essentially the same) and users to use them to have an application fit their needs.

There is a long list of proven applications that employ extension languages. Successful and long-lived examples in the free software world are GNU Emacs and The GIMP.

Very popular examples of extending server applications are the Apache projects Perl and PHP modules.

Extension languages allow users, programmers, and third-party developers to add features to a program without having to re-write the program as a whole, and it allows people extending a program to co-operate with each other, without having to expend any extra effort.

Guile is an interpreter for the Scheme programming language, packaged as a library which can be incorporated into your programs. Your users have full access to the interpreter, so Guile itself can be extended, based on the needs of the user. The result will be a scripting language tailored to your application.

Using Guile with your program makes it more usable. Users dont need to learn the plumbing of your application to customize it; they just need to understand Guile, and the access youve provided. They can easily trade and share features by downloading and creating scripts, instead of trading complex patches and recompiling their applications. They dont need to coordinate with you, or anyone else.
