Free ticker software for linux

LCDTicker is a newsticker for LCDproc. It downloads news from an RSS newsserver and prints it on a display.
At the moment LCDTicker supports only the first line on a display, because I have a one line display.
Installation
extract the archive, type
"make"
and then
"make install" (make sure you are root at this moment),
copy lcdticker.conf to /etc
"cp lcdticker.conf /etc"
if do your start lcdticker automatically an systemstart, copy lcdtickerd to /etc/init.d
"cp lcdtickerd /etc/init.d"
create a Symlink to /etc/rc2.d as example
"ln -s /etc/inid.d/lcdtickerd /etc/rc2.d/S89lcdtickerd"
and for the shutdown
"ln -s /etc/init.d/lcdtickerd /etc/rc0.d/K10lcdtickerd"
Enhancements:
- Add a new argument: "-c" path to load the configfile
- Change the default path of the configfile from HOMEDIR/.lcdticker/lcdticker.conf to /etc/lcdticker.conf
- Change the path to load the news file from HOMEDIR/.lcdticker to /tmp
- Add a init.d startscript
- Add a changelog

PHP News Ticker is a news ticker that is easy to manage, easy to add to, and easy to purge old news from. PHP News Ticker project allows HTML and small images to be inserted. Its a horizontal scroller, so it does not display big pictures attractively.

***first, go through the admin/config.php

and change the following:

host, dbuser, dbpass, dbname

***create a table on a db with the following colums:

id (int)6 AUTO INCREMENT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY
message (VARCHAR)9000 NOT NUL

*** copy and paste from the sample_script.php what you need, changing what has been annotated to be changed.

*** upload files to http://"your-site.com"/news leaving the folder structure unchanged

*** Log into the admin area to test script by going to http://"your-site.com"/news/admin no username needed, just the password that you setup in the config.php file.

This small application sits in your KDE system tray and patiently checks your BlogLines account (provided you gave it one) for updates in specified periods, half an hour being the default.
It can notify you of new updates in a variety of ways:
- play a sound
- pop up a balloon
- change the tray icon
The icon will always change its color and remain this until you left-click it. Doing so will bring up a konqueror window with the updates url and drop the flag. Other notifications can be turned off.

pytick is a customizable stock ticker.
pytick is a fully configurable and elegant stock ticker written in python for your desktop.
pytick gathers its stock quotes from finance.yahoo.com and displays them in a easy to read fashion.

krickscore is a simple score ticker for KDE that displays the latest cricket scores on the taskbar.

EventWatcher is a KDE application which notifies you about various events.
"Events" are pieces of information about, for example, news ticker or blog updates, new emails, user logons, system warnings, hardware events etc.
They get collected by EventWatcher plugins and sent to the main application which lives in the KDE system tray for most of the time and displays this information.
EventWatcher requires KDE/Qt 3.2.

K.R.S.S provides a news aggregator for the KDE desktop.
K.R.S.S. is a news aggregator for the KDE desktop. It downloads Rich (RDF) Site Summary files from multiple Web sites and displays them on your desktop in a ticker-tape fashion.
Main features:
- This application is perhaps the only rich site summary display to work on KDE.
- You can downloaded feeds and images locally, and display them as and when you wish.
- You can filter out unwanted news through the use MyFilters, so that you only see the news you want. A feature not found in any other news aggregator.
