Tacos 4.0.1

Tacos 4.0.1

Tacos provides a component repository for the Tapestry Web application development framework. more>>
Tacos library project provides components and ajax behaviour for the Tapestry java web application framework.

Its intent is to provide a library of high quality components that may be used in your tapestry application, as well as provide a core infrastructure for using ajax related logic in these and your own components and pages.

The current alpha-4 release of tacos marks a very large milestone, in the form of full dojo integration/new effects parameters to link/form components/and general bug fixes and productionizing of new components.

Current development efforts are focused on the following items:

Dojo Integration: Most of the library now relies almost exclusively on dojo. Any parts not yet handled by dojo will be evaluated for alternatives, or patch submissions to eliminate most outside dependencies.

Ajax Libraries:

Tacos supports a variety of different client side javascript libraries focused around ajax. These are a few:

dojo - Serves as the basis for most of the tacos library functionality. The best js package available hands down.
Prototype - Currently seems to be one of the core library components that many other libraries are based on. Provides common fuctionality, like sending/recieving ajax requests, manipulating DOM structures and interacting with forms.
script.aculo.us - A library spun off of the prototype library that provides lots of common "Effects" and animation techniques. Also provides a few ajax components, like Autocomplete and in-place editing.
Rico - Yet another library based on the prototype package. Provides similar functionality to script.aculo.us, with the addition of more comprehensive components and animation techniques.

Jetty 5.1.12

Jetty 5.1.12

Jetty is an HTTP/1.1 server and J2EE servlet container. more>>
Jetty is a 100% Java HTTP Server and Servlet Container. This means that you do not need to configure and run a separate web server (like Apache) in order to use java, servlets and JSPs to generate dynamic content.
Jetty is a fully featured web server for static and dynamic content. Unlike separate server/container solutions, this means that your web server and web application run in the same process, without interconnection overheads and complications.
Furthermore, as a pure java component, Jetty can be simply included in your application for demonstration, distribution or deployment. Jetty is available on all Java supported platforms.
Jetty is devloped under the guidance of Mort Bay Consulting and released under the Apache 2.0 License . Full source code is included in all releases. The License puts few restrictions on usage of Jetty, which is free for commercial use and distribution.
The developers of Jetty ask users to inform themselves of the issues, political, legal or otherwise that motivate and threaten the development of Open Source and Free Software. The Jetty user and development community is active and welcomes new contributors.
Jetty has been widely used in commercial and open source projects and applications, ranging across the full spectrum of runtime environments from hand helds to main frames. To illustrate this diversity, we have put together a (far from exhaustive) list of Jetty Powered products. Here are just a few highlights:
- Integrated with J2EE application servers such as Geronimo, JBoss, and JOnAS.
- Bundled with the JXTA, Tapestry, Cocoon and numerous other Open Source projects.
- Integrated with projects such as Jelly executable XML, Avalon Phoenix micro kernel and Maven project managment.
- Included in many products including IBM Tivoli, Sonic MQ and Cisco SESM.
Jetty has been optimized by commercial and experimental use since 1995 and a small and efficient server is the result:
- A HTTP/1.1 server can be configured in a jar file under 350KB.
- Jetty consistently benchmarks as one of the fastest servlet servers.
- Jetty servers scale well to thousands of simultaneous connections
- Server performance degrades gracefully under stress.
For many applications, HTTP is just another interface protocol. Jetty can easily be embedded in such applications and products without adopting a WWW centric application architecture. Examples of embedded Jetty usage include:
- Integrated with J2EE application servers such as Geronimo, JBoss, and JOnAS.
- Bundled with the JXTA project as the basis for its HTTP transport.
- Included in many products products including IBM tivolli, Sonic MQ and Cisco SESM.
- Used for the CD demo disk in several books on XML and Servlets.
- Run on embedded systems and handheld devices.
Enhancements:
- Added support for TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA
- Upgraded session ID generation to use SecureRandom
- Quote single quotes in cookies
- AJP protected against bad requests from mod_jk
- JETTY-154 Cookies ignore single quotes

Shale 1.0.3

Shale 1.0.3

Shale is a modern web application framework, fundamentally based on JavaServer Faces. more>>
Shale is a modern web application framework, fundamentally based on JavaServer Faces. Architecturally, Shale is a set of loosely coupled services that can be combined as needed to meet particular application requirements.
Shale provides additional functionality such as application event callbacks, dialogs with conversation-scoped state, a view technology called Clay, annotation-based functionality to reduce configuration requirements and support for remoting. Shale also provides integration links for other frameworks, to ease development when combinations of technologies are required.
Main features:
- View Controller - Convenient mechanism to associate a "backing" Java class with each JavaServer Faces view in an application, with predefined event handers for events significant to an application developer.
- Dialog Manager - Mechanism to define a "conversation" with a user that requires multiple HTTP requests to implement, modeled as a state diagram.
- Application Manager - Traditional application wide front controller features that should be applied to every request.
- Validation - Integration with the Jakarta Commons Validator Framework, supporting both client side and server side validations based on a single set of configured validation rules.
- Remoting - Server side support for applications that employ AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) style interactions.
- Spring Integration - Integration with the Spring Framework, allowing the use of Springs dependency injection framework to create JavaServer Faces managed beans.
- Clay - An alternative to JSP where you define views in pure HTML, in a fashion similar to Tapestry and Facelets. An innovative sub-framework for supporting the configuration of reusable subtrees of JavaServer Faces components for customizable reuse.
- Test Framework - Set of mock objects and JUnit test case base classes suitable for testing both the framework classes themselves, as well as application components built on top of the framework.
- Tiger Extensions - Optional add-on library that adds additional ease-of-use features for Shale applications that run on Java Standard Edition 5 (popularly known by its code name during development, "tiger").
