iRATE radio 0.3

iRATE radio 0.3

iRATE radio provides users with a powerful new way to find and download free, legal music online. more>>
iRATE radio provides users with a powerful new way to find and download free, legal music online.

Users rate tracks based on their tastes. The iRATE server then selects other tracks to send to the user from a database of over 50,000 freely downloadable songs by correlating the users ratings with other users, and finding people with similar tastes.

Unlike streaming audio, iRATE saves the tracks to the users hard drive. This means that playback is smoother, without the typical problems associated with streaming media, such as high bandwidth usage.

GNU Radio 2.8

GNU Radio 2.8

GNU Radio is a collection of software that when combined with minimal hardware, allows the construction of radios. more>>
GNU Radio is a collection of software that when combined with minimal hardware, allows the construction of radios where the actual waveforms transmitted and received are defined by software. What this means is that it turns the digital modulation schemes used in todays high performance wireless devices into software problems.
What is a Software Defined Radio?
Joe Mitola says, "A software radio is a radio whose channel modulation waveforms are defined in software. That is, waveforms are generated as sampled digital signals, converted from digital to analog via a wideband DAC and then possibly upconverted from IF to RF. The receiver, similarly, employs a wideband Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) that captures all of the channels of the software radio node. The receiver then extracts, downconverts and demodulates the channel waveform using software on a general purpose processor."
For our purposes, on the receive side, the idea is to get a wide band ADC as close to the antenna as is convenient, get the samples into something we can program, and then grind on them in software.
Enhancements:
- GNU Radio 2.6 includes sending and receiving data at up to 1Mbit/sec using GMSK. - Theres also support for the new USRP Flex 400 transceiver daughterboards.
- Handling of all daughterboards has been unified, so most apps will work without modification on any of them. For those of you interested in wireless networking, see especially gnuradio-examples/python/gmsk2. Weve got a framework in place to allow you to build and experiment with your own MACs. 2.6 includes the "null MAC". A carrier sense MAC is the next logical step.

halo_radio 0.2.6-3

halo_radio 0.2.6-3

halo_radio is a python library for a mp3 radio station. more>>
halo_radio is a python library for a mp3 radio station. Included is a cgi web front-end for controlling the radio stations content. also, a backend streamer for re-encoding mp3s.

The system tracks requests and kills to auto generate playlists for random song selection.

HaloRadio makes use of existing software to provide some parts of its features and functionality. For example the transport of mp3s is provided by Icecast and the backed database is provided by MySQL.

There are quite a few prerequisite applications to be installed before your streaming radio station is fully operational. While the author would like to provide installation and configuration help for all the software used in this project these issues are extensively covered by their respective maintainers.

The author suggests recent versions of all programs listed below or a nice package management system like debians apt.

halo_radio is a free software released under the GPL license.

dbox2Tradio allows you to listen to radio and watch TV channels using external helper applications. more>>
dbox2Tradio allows you to listen to radio and watch tv channels using external helper applications (xmms/xine). The shell-style script remotely accesses the dbox2 and performs any action via the (Neutrino) web-interface.

dbox2Tradio supports bouquets and is highly user-configurable. That is, before running, you need to adjust language and helper applications. Nevermind, its an easy task: Use the source! You need a dbox2 running Linux.

ytalk 3.1.1

ytalk 3.1.1

YTalk is multi-user talk program, that is compatible with the older Unix talk clients and daemons. more>>
YTalk is a compatible replacement for the Unix talk(1) program, which adds a number of features. Mainly, it can talk to more than one person at a time, and it can the two different types of talk daemons out there.
To install this commands are usefull:
./configure
make
make install
YTalk was written and maintained by Britt Yenne up to verison 3.0pl2. That version was released years ago, and there have been no new releases since then, so I (Roger Espel Llima, ) have taken up maintenance, updating the code to work with newer Unixes, fixing bugs and adding new features.
YTalk is free software, which can be freely redistributed, used and modified as long as the copyright notices are kept in the source and header files.
Main features:
- multiple simultaneous connections, compatible with Unix Talk as well as previous versions of YTalk.
- text-based or X11 interface, at your choice
- YTalk windows scroll, instead of wrapping around
- start shells inside YTalk, type commands and let your partners see them
- Ytalk is 8-bit clean, so you can type all those cool accented characters
- you can save any side of the current conversation, including yours
- you can define aliases for addresses of people to ring or for hostnames to ring them on.
- support for virtual hosts and multi-homed machines
- YTalk is very configurable
- lots of bugfixes, especially on Linux and Solaris
- even more bugfixes now
- Ytalk is Y2K clean; as far as I know it has always been, since all the date-processing it does is comparing Unix timestamps in seconds since 1 Jan 1970. This is silly, but Ive been asked a couple times already about Ytalks Y2K status...
Enhancements:
- try to look for the current machines fqdn if hostname() doenst
- include a .
- fixed the shell under Solaris (oops, broke it in 3.1!)
- misc autoconf fixes
- resizing didnt work with Linux and ncurses, fixed it
- YTalk now checks that connections are answered form the expected host;
- if they arent, it complains and shows the new hostname
- n-way talk sessions should now be free of duplicated users
- fixed the "readdress" option somewhat
- portability fixes for 64-bit machines (size_t instead of int)

cRadio is a QT - X11 interface that can control a radio card connected to your pc. cRadio started as a result of me wanting to learn X-windows programming and due to the fact that there were no decent looking radio card programs for linux out there. I took a brief look at the various tool kits out there, and decided on using qt as it was the simplist and quickest toolkit to use. I sensed the need to try to re-write cRadio using qtk, but firstly Ill be devoted to improving and finishing off this version.
Main features:
- Digital frequency indicator
- Station Preset Name
- Channel preset number
- MUTE indicator
- TUNE, Sleep, Alarm and Stero indicators

Multitalk 1.2

Multitalk 1.2

Multitalk is a presentation program designed for giving more interactive and engaging talks. more>>
Multitalk project is a presentation program designed for giving more interactive and engaging talks. Slides are laid out in a two- dimensional canvas that you navigate in any direction, in real time, using the mouse.
All of your talks can be merged into the same space. You can zoom out and create hyperlinks between slides. Each slide may also contain nested expandable sections like a folding text editor. Every slide can have an arbitrary style to control layout and visual appearance.
Why another presentation program?
Other presentation programs force you to arrange your talk in a fixed order, and then to step through it in sequence - often while reading out the slides to the audience in a tedious manner! This means that in those programs:
- Theres no way to change the direction of your talk at presentation-time based on audience feedback.
- You cant have "optional" parts which you expand upon for longer, more detailed talks and present at an overview level otherwise, except by skipping slides.
- Theres no easy way to show central concepts or illustrate ones progress through the structure of the talk, except by regularly reinserting copies of the contents page.
- The speaker isnt actively involved in steering through and explaining the material, which can lead to poor communication.
- Updating multiple talks with shared material is difficult.
- You cannot view all of your talks in the same space.
- Presentation concerns are emphasised over content because slides are initially designed in a GUI rather than as plain text.
- Often the same template is used for all slides in a talk; putting the same abstract-but-vaguely-hitech-looking coloured pattern in the corner of each slide doesnt really add much to the talk.
What does Multitalk do better?
- Slides are laid out for display in a two-dimensional space which you can choose to navigate in real time in any direction.
- Slide text is written in a markup language using a normal text editor.
- Image placement is still controlled in a WYSIWYG manner using the program itself (which is quicker than pure markup language spacing commands).
- Slides can be any size and automatically resize to fit their contents; you can view multiple small ones at once or part of very large ones, so logical units dont have to be stretched to screen size.
- You can zoom out to rearrange slides or get an overview of the talk.
- Each slide acts like a folding text editor, with definable blocks which can be collapsed and expanded during the talk.
- You can define hyperlinks between different slides, which are spatially animated.
- You can define your own style templates to override all visual aspects, and each slide can independently use any style to highlight topics as required (you can have multiple "master slides" in other terminology).
Enhancements:
- This version adds LaTeX integration, which allows LaTeX syntax to be embedded within any slides text.
