GTK Cervi 0.3

GTK Cervi 0.3

GTK Cervi is a multiplayer Cervi clone. more>>
GTK Cervi project is a multiplayer Cervi clone.
Im not really sure if Cervi is original name of it but I know this game as Cervi so it will be named GTK Cervi. It is a multiplayer game (for 2-8 players) where players drive their worms.
Worms are getting longer and players mustnt collide with any worm. Winner is the last surviving worm. For more information see `Gameplay internals section.
Differences between "GTK Cervi" and the original Cervi:
- Some little differences in gameplay - these wont be fixed because I like this gameplay.
- Our cervs are antialiased.
- We have different field size, and it can be changed.
- Different controls.
- More players.
- Different scoring.
- Hatrick and extra hatrick bonuses.

Jikes RVM 2.9.1

Jikes RVM 2.9.1

Jikes RVM is a virtual machine and runtime environment for Java. more>>
Jikes RVM is a compiler that translates JavaTM source files as defined in The Java Language Specification into the bytecoded instruction set and binary format defined in The Java Virtual Machine Specification.

You may wonder why the world needs another Java compiler, considering that Sun provides javac free with its SDK. Jikes has five advantages that make it a valuable contribution to the Java community: [OSI Certified Logo]

* Open source. Jikes is OSI Certified Open Source Software. OSI Certified is a certification mark of the Open Source Initiative.
* Strictly Java compatible. Jikes strives to adhere to both The Java Language Specification and The Java Virtual Machine Specification as tightly as possible, and does not support subsets, supersets, or other variations of the language. The FAQ describes some of the side effects of this strict language conformance.
* High performance. Jikes is a high performance compiler, making it ideal for use with larger projects.
* Dependency analysis. Jikes performs a dependency analysis on your code that provides two very useful features: Incremental builds and makefile generation.
* Constructive Assistance. Jikes strives to help the programmer write better code in two key ways. Jikes has always strived to provide clear error and warning text to assist the programmer in understanding problems, and now with release 1.19 Jikes helps point out common programming mistakes as documented in Effective Java.

Abridged from a FAQ entry which was adapted from some material by Lou Grinzo for an article he wrote.

The fact that Jikes is a high-performance, highly compatible Java compiler that can be used on almost any computing platform makes it an interesting program and worth investigating for almost any Java programmer. But Jikes is also notable because it lies at the center of two events: the adoption of open source philosophy and practice by large corporations, and the continued growth of Java for Linux.

Its worth pointing out that Jikes is not, and is not intended to be, a complete development environment -- it is simply a command line compiler. It should not be considered a replacement for more complete tools, such as Source Navigator or IBMs VisualAge for Java which provide sophisticated graphical IDEs (Integrated Development Environments).

The Jikes compiler was released in binary form in April 1997 on the IBM alphaWorks site. Jikes for Linux was released on 15 July 1998. The response was overwhelming -- Jikes had more downloads in the three months after the announcement than in the fifteen months before the announcement.

Around the end of March 2002, IBM opened a fledgling community hosting location attached to their developerWorks site with Jikes as a founding member. Approximately 3 years later this server was decommissioned and the most active projects migrated into SourceForge.net hosting options. During those three years Jikes was the #1 most popular project every month, often by a large margin. We approached nearly 250,000 downloads while residing at dw/oss, and had been consistently tallying triple digit daily downloads.

Release of Jikes for Linux was soon followed by requests to open up the source. Many notes and comments from users suggested this would be a good idea. The source was released under a liberal license in December 1998 to make a very visible demonstration of IBMs commitment to open standards and to Java Technology, to make Jikes more reliable and accessible, to encourage more widespread use of Java Technology, to encourage standardization of Java Technology, and to gain some experience actually running an open source project. This marked the start of one of IBMs first efforts in the open source arena.

The original alphaWorks version of Jikes was written by Philippe Charles and Dave Shields of the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. For awhile after the release of the source they continued to work on the compiler as contributors; however, shortly after the project migrated to developerWorks Open Source Server they were officially moved off onto other projects within IBM. Today there are no IBMers who work on Jikes as part of their job description. Jikes survives today soley based on the free time contributions of members of the open source community.

The source code is available under IBMs Public License, which has been approved by the OSI (Open Source Initiative) as a fully certified open source license. The project provides access to the complete CVS development tree, which includes not only Jikes, but also the source for the Jacks Test Suite and the Jikes Parser Generator used to build Jikes. Jikes is included in many Open Source Operating Systems. The Jacks Test Suite is a replacement for the Jikestst package.

pretendroot 0.9

pretendroot 0.9

Pretendroot is an LD_PRELOAD library which overrides some glibc calls. more>>
Pretendroot is an LD_PRELOAD library which overrides some glibc calls, pretending you are root while doing file system operations.

The main difference from Debians fakeroot is that no daemons or other processes are involved, fake ownership and group are stored on the file system, and not in memory, hence it can survive even reboots.

pretendroot library has been successfully used when building packages for the UHU-Linux distribution. All of its applications are compiled and installed as an unprivileged user.

However, theres no need to patch Makefiles; commands such as "install -o root -g mail thisfile ${DESTDIR}/here" work perfectly, and the final packages will have the desired ownership and group.

FreezeThaw 0.43

FreezeThaw 0.43

FreezeThaw is a Perl module for converting Perl structures to strings and back. more>>
FreezeThaw is a Perl module for converting Perl structures to strings and back.
SYNOPSIS
use FreezeThaw qw(freeze thaw cmpStr safeFreeze cmpStrHard);
$string = freeze $data1, $data2, $data3;
...
($olddata1, $olddata2, $olddata3) = thaw $string;
if (cmpStr($olddata2,$data2) == 0) {print "OK!"}
Converts data to/from stringified form, appropriate for saving-to/reading-from permanent storage.
Deals with objects, circular lists, repeated appearence of the same refence. Does not deal with overloaded stringify operator yet.
EXPORT
Exportable
freeze thaw cmpStr cmpStrHard safeFreeze.
User API
cmpStr
analogue of cmp for data. Takes two arguments and compares them as separate entities.
cmpStrHard
analogue of cmp for data. Takes two arguments and compares them considered as a group.
freeze
returns a string that encupsulates its arguments (considered as a group). thawing this string leads to a fatal error if arguments to freeze contained references to GLOBs and CODEs.
safeFreeze
returns a string that encupsulates its arguments (considered as a group). The result is thawable in the same process. thawing the result in a different process should result in a fatal error if arguments to safeFreeze contained references to GLOBs and CODEs.
thaw
takes one string argument and returns an array. The elements of the array are "equivalent" to arguments of the freeze command that created the string. Can result in a fatal error (see above).
Version restrictions:
A lot of objects are blessed in some obscure packages by XSUB typemaps. It is not clear how to (automatically) prevent the UNIVERSAL methods to be called for objects in these packages.
The objects which can survive freeze()/thaw() cycle must also survive a change of a "member" to an equal member. Say, after
$a = [a => 3];
$a->{b} = $a->{a};
$a satisfies
$a->{b} == $a->{a}
This property will be broken by freeze()/thaw(), but it is also broken by
$a->{a} = delete $a->{a};

movemetafs 0.02

movemetafs 0.02

movemetafs is a searchable filesystem metadata store for Linux. more>>
movemetafs is a searchable filesystem metadata store for Linux that lets users tag local files (including image, video, audio, and text files) by simply moving the files to a special folder using any file manager.
It also lets users find files by tags using a boolean search query. The original files (and their names) are kept intact. movemetafs doesnt have its own user interface, but it is usable with any file manager.
In the name `movemetafs, `metafs means filesystem metadata store, and move refers to the most common way tags are added or removed: the user moves the file to be acted on to the `meta/tag/$TAGNAME or
`meta/untag/$TAGNAME special folder. When the target folder is such a special folder, the file is not removed from its original location (meta/root/**/*).
movemetafs is similar to LAFS (http://junk.nocrew.org/~stefan/lafs/)
(not tagji 1.1 by Manuel Arriaga). Most important differences:
- movemetafs uses MySQL instead of PostgreSQL (benefits: speedup, easier installation with pts-mysql-local).
- movemetafs doesnt require files to be explicitly added.
- movemetafs cannot list all untagged files quickly.
- movemetafs is written in Perl, so it is quite easy to extend and try out new features.
- movemetafs continues to work when files are renamed.
- movemetafs works with files with more than one hard link.
Main features:
- Use any file manager to tag files: move the file to the `meta/tag/$TAGNAME or `meta/tagged/$TAGNAME folder. The file is not removed from its original folder.
- Use any file manager to untag files: move the file to the `meta/untag/$TAGNAME. The file is not removed from its original folder.
- Specify search query by changing to the invisible `meta/search/$QUERYSTRING folder. Results are symbolic links into `meta/root.
- If you want to search for only a single tag, list the folder `meta/tagged/$TAGNAME. Results are symbolic links into `meta/root.
- Alternatively, you untag a file by removing the symlink `meta/tagged/$TAGNAME/$FILENAME.
- Alternatively, use POSIX extended attributes to retrieve (or even set) the tags associated to a file.
- Attach textual descriptions to files, and read the description once the file is found.
- Use POSIX extended attributes to get and set the textual description of a file.
- Create a recursive POSIX extended attribute dump (of tags and descriptions) from the database very quickly.
- Restore the created POSIX extended attribute dump with `setfattr --restore.
- Use versatile search query syntax (MySQL fulltext search) with the possiblity of boolean search (i.e. searching for files matching a combination of tags).
- Copy search results to make backups or to create collections.
- Searching is fast, because it uses a fulltext index.
- After installation, movemetafs can be used on an existing filesystem instantly: there is no migration needed to make an existing filesystem usable with movemetafs: data doesnt have to be copied, moved, touched etc.
- Untagged files dont have any negative effect on the speed of movemetafs, even if the filesystem contains millions of files.
- movemetafs nicely survives a system crash: non-cache data is stored in MySQL InnoDB tables (which use journaling), and even if the whole tag database is lost, the original filesystem remains usable without movemetafs.
- Stores tags in twice: once in a fulltext indexed column in a MyISAM table, and once in an InnoDB relational table. Uses the fast MyISAM table for searches, and the InnoDB table for data recovery.
- Treats file names as opaque 8-bit strings, thus it works with any filesystem character set, even when character sets are mixed in the middle of the filename.
- Uses UTF-8 for tag names and descriptions.
- Filenames in search results are automatically made unique when necessary.
- Following the Unix filesystem design, files with multiple hard links share a commond description and a common set of tags. If tags or the description are changed on one name, the changes also apply to other names, too.

Postilion 0.9.3c

Postilion 0.9.3c

Postilion is a mail user agent based upon the popular TkRat program. more>>
Postilion is a mail user agent based upon the popular TkRat program. The main changes to TkRat are in the user interface portion, so all of the underlying functionality of TkRat remains. This includes MIME support, Virtual folders, PGP support, support for unix mail files, MH folders, POP and IMAP.

Many other features and enhancements have been added to Postilion, ranging from robust support for IMAP in a shared folder environment, to subtle touches which make mail browsing just a bit more pleasant of an experience. This program was made by the users requests.

Great effort has been made to support multiuser environments with support for system wide configurations, mailboxes and address books; shared folders, etc. Many of these features require the use of IMAP mailboxes. When you build Postilion, you will also build an IMAP4rev1 server which you can experiment with. See the "imap" directory for details.

One of the main features of TkRat which has not survived the transition well at all is multi-language interface support (TkRat had built-in support for English, Swedish and Italian). The reason for this is that I have changed much of the text, yet I do not know these languages for translation. Instructions are included for how to do translations, and I solicit any interested party to contribute their translations (please contact me before starting, just so I can coordinate efforts). Postilion currently has support for English, French, German, Italian Dutch and Swedish.
