Bitterbpp 1.6
Bitterbpp project can make DVD backups to matroska under Linux. more>>
Bitterbpp project can make DVD backups to matroska under Linux.
Bitterbpp may not be used to make illegal copies of DVD movies; in fact, it functionally cannot since it depends entirely on MPlayer and lsdvd to read and process the DVD structure. So if you cannot legally (local laws, etc) make a backup copy of a DVD you legally own, you may not use this software in conjunction with MPlayer to do so. In fact, if for you the previous statement is true, I wouldnt even visit the MPlayer site, let alone download MPlayer.
Bitterbpp is designed as a lightweight, feature rich GUI "wrapper" to MPlayer, lsdvd and various other related software. As such, bitterbpp is an application written in Perl, utilizing the Gtk+ 2.x Perl bindings. Since it has some typically non-portable methods and system calls designed for Linux compatible systems, I dont suggest using this in any untested environment (Mac OS X, Windows, etc).
Main features:
- Recompresses any selected movie track in 2 passes (or n passes if desired) using one of four configurable codecs, to fit chosen space and scaling requirements. Scaling calculations are based on bits per pixel estimates, hence the name bitterbpp :)
- Unlimited audio tracks (in original AC3 or DTS, or recompressed to Ogg Vorbis) and unlimited subtitle tracks, with proper language support.
Enhancements:
- itterbpp-refresh separated from bitterbpp.
- Revised program structure.
- Updated documentation.

ExtSub 1.00
ExtSub is an utility which extracts and decodes subtitle data from VOB files. more>>
ExtSub is an utility which extracts and decodes subtitle data from VOB files. This program is for extracting subtitles from DVD VOB files. It does not descramble CSS-encrypted files. To compile simpy type "make". The command line parameters are as next:
infile= The VOB file from which to extract subtitles.
videofile= A file to which to write MPEG 2 video stream data.
(optional, highly experimental)
subname= The prefix of all subtitle files (see below for
details on the individual files).
convscript= An optional shell script, which will invoke
ImageMajicks "convert" utility to turn raw subtitle
image files into TIFF files.
id= The optional ID of the subtitle stream to be extracted
(default is 0). The specification allows IDs 0-31.
Each subtitle caption in the source file generates 3 output files with the suffixes ".gray", ".sub" and ".info".
The .gray file is a raw 8bpp bitmap image of the caption. DVD subtitles however are only 2bpp. in order to see anything with the naked eye using a program such as Imagemajicks "convert". it will probably be necessary to use the Enhance->Normalise function.
The .info file is a text file containing information about the caption, such as its resolution and and alpha channel data.
The .sub file is the raw data as extracted from the VOB source. Details of its syntax is available from http://sam.zoy.org/doc/dvd/subtitles/

Libquicktime 1.0.0
Libquicktime is a library for reading and writing quicktime files. more>>
Libquicktime is a library for reading and writing quicktime files.
Note: libquicktime is in no way related to the original quicktime software, which can be found here. You should not expect all quicktime files created by original software to be playable by libquicktime or vice versa. You might, however, be lucky in some cases.
Furthermore, its is no longer a development goal to support as many codecs as possible. Instead we want to keep things simple and provide a library, which can create reasonable compatible Quicktime and AVI files either uncompressed (for high-end or production applications) or with decent compression codecs for end user applications.
On the decoder side, the goal is that libquicktime should at least be able to decode its own files. If other decoders can be added with a reasonable amount of labour, they will be supported as well. If you are looking for a general purpose library, which supports other formats than Quicktime/AVI and many more codecs, try gmerlin_avdecoder or ffmpeg.
Main features:
- Sourcetree upgraded with autoconf/automake/libtool and all the other stuff, people like in "standard" linux libraries.
- All 3rd party libraries (jpeg, OggVorbis) were removed to reduce download size, compilation time and code duplication on users harddisks. Instead, the sytemwide installed libaries are autodetected by the configure script.
- All codecs have been moved into dynamically loadable modules. This makes it possible to distribute closed source codecs (or codecs with an incompatible license) as separate packages.
- Unlike other quicktime libraries, we are source compatible with quicktime4linux.
- The codecs themselves are also source compatible with quicktime4linux, so porting codecs between quicktime4linux and libquicktime requires only little brain load.
- Special API extensions allow access to the codec registry. Applications can get important information about the codecs, their settable parameters etc. at runtime.
- Libquicktime 0.9.4 introduced support for handling QTVR files. QTVR is a technology to store panoramas and interactive "3D pictures" (Object Movies) in Quicktime files. For more information check out this document.
- The current implementation allows developers to write applications that display and/or create QTVR V1.0 object movies and panoramas.
Although its usable there are a few limitations:
- the newer versions of the QTVR format arent supported (yet)
- no multinode support
- no abstraction of the movie structure. That means the application writer has to take care of which frame to decode when (object movies) and how to piece them together (panoramas) (see http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn1036.html and http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn1035.html for information about that)
- no documentation
Enhancements:
- Support for text tracks. These can be either Subtitles or Chapters.
- Lots of fixes
- gettext support, German translation.

kEchoSub 0.2
kEchoSub lets you create your own movie subtitles. more>>
kEchoSub is a small script lets You create subtitles "from scrath". When You want to make a translation for a movie and there are no subtitles available on the net even in other languages You can use this script.
Since version 0.2 it can also convert time stamps to hh:mm:ss with add zeros button. For example it can convert a timestamps like 1:22:3 to 01:22:03 format making it readable for some stupid video players which cant rad 1:22:3 format.
Since version 0.2 it can also add minumum time to read a subtitle line - different for long lines and short lines. You cna set the options "Characters per lon g line" to indicate how much characters doesn the line have to have to be considered LONG in Your opinion.
Ths script will then calculate the time spaces in seconds beteween the lines and it its too short itll put a | mark instead of timestampt so the video player will display the second time without erasing the preaviouse line from the screen.

SIVE 1 Beta 3
SIVE, short from Simple iPod Video Encoder, is a graphical tool to make video conversion for iPod Video real simple. more>>
SIVE, short from Simple iPod Video Encoder, is a graphical tool to make video conversion for iPod Video real simple.
SIVE is a GTK2 frontend to mplayer, mencoder and mp4creator. With it, you convert your movies to play them on your iPod very easily. It currently works under unix OSes (yes, including your linux distro) ); im thinking about Windows porting but thats far from being a priority, since similar tools already exist in the Windows world (and I dont like Windows programming, too).
Its usefulness is pretty clear : it makes converting videos for playing on iPod Video real simple, allowing to select audio tracks and subtitles tracks. No need for end users to browse manpages and documentation to learn how to convert their videos to read them on iPod, which might make them think "geez, its so easy under MacOS and Windows and so difficult in Linux/Unix". This simple GUI does the job.
SIVE produces iPod compliant H.124 videos, by using mencoder to encode and mp4creator to create a container iPod Video can use. It generates the options to be passed to these command line tools in order to create what the user asked (bitrate, audio track, subtitles, resolution, scale, crop). It shows the commands and their results in an embedded terminal so the user can learn how to use these tools manually.
It does not do any conversion itself : this tricky job is left to the tools which are known for doing it well.
At the moment, SIVE supports :
Input formats :
- MKV
- AVI
- (other common formats mencoder can handle will be added soon)
Output format :
- H.124, "baseline profile level 1.3" (these are iPod requirements ; understand "the videos play on iPod Video")
Input subtitles formats :
- embedded in input file (MKV)
- .sub file
- .srt file
- (other formats will be added soon)
- Audio track selection (MKV)
- Batch conversion
- Desktop integration
Translations :
- English
- French
- Chinese coming very soon
- Other languages coming
<<lessSIVE is a GTK2 frontend to mplayer, mencoder and mp4creator.
This module makes the first moves towards a Tk::Wizard extension to automate software installation, primarily for end-users, in the manner of Install Sheild.
If you are looking for a freeware software installer that is not dependant upon Perl, try Inno Setup - http://www.jrsoftware.org/. Its so good, even Microsoft have been caught using it.
