GraphThing 1.3.2

GraphThing 1.3.2

GraphThing is a tool that allows you to create, manipulate and study graphs. more>>
GraphThing is a tool that allows you to create, manipulate and study graphs. These "graphs" are mathematical objects (look at this introduction to Graph Theory) that describe relationships between sets; they are not 2D plots, charts, or anything similar to that.
If the image on the right means nothing to you, youre probably at the wrong place.
That means that not only does it cost you nothing, but you also have the freedom to redistribute it or modify it however you please, so long as you also give these freedoms to others.
As an example, the CityBuilder project has taken a particular version of GraphThing, and modified it for their own needs. They have released the source code to their forked version under the GNU GPL.
Main features:
- Adding, deleting and moving of vertices and edges.
- Loading and saving of graphs.
- Graph complements, induced subgraphs and line graphs.
- Quick creation of many common graphs (complete, cycle, null, star, etc.).
- Determination of shortest path, connectivity and Eulericity.
- BFS, DFS and Minimum Spanning Tree.
- Adjacency matrix (including exponents) and degree sequence.
- Chromatic polynomial and chromatic number.
Enhancements:
- This is a small update to include the new Chinese (Simplified) translation, courtesy of Guo Yixuan.

QtQuran 0.1

QtQuran 0.1

Quran project is aimed to be a comprehensive tool to navigate through texts of the Quran. more>>
Quran project is aimed to be a comprehensive tool to navigate through texts of the Quran, play readings of selected verses, as well as other features.
QtQuran project should also cover multiple translations of the Quran.
Arabeyes is a Meta project that is aimed at fully supporting the Arabic language in the Unix/Linux environment. It is designed to be a central location to standardize the Arabization process. Arabeyes relies on voluntary contributions by computer professionals and enthusiasts all over the world.
Unlike other Arabized products, Arabeyes is Open Source, completely FREE and abides by the ideals of the open source communities. Arabeyes aims for all active participants and volunteers to partake in the development process and to speak their mind on this professional effort.
The idea of Arabizing Unix is not a new one. However, most of the attempts were done by Arab computer science students studying outside of the Arab world. Once those individuals graduated, their projects were abandoned. Resulting in very sparse code and in every subsequent attempt in having to re-invent the wheel. Arabeyes aims to eliminate this redundancy and lack of information by not depending on any one person or group - Arabeyes is aimed to succeed irrespective of the interest or availability of the parties involved.
Arabeyes plans to address every aspect of making the use of Arabic on linux/unix common and without headaches/hurdles. Arabeyes goal is not to create new applications (if those applications exist), but to incorporate modifications/additions to existing common everyday-use applications. Arabeyes will initially engage in the following projects,
- Address the various font/keyboard-mapping issues
- Create the ability to write plain-text Arabic easily
- Create the ability to spell-check your Arabic text documents
- Create the ability to send/receive mail through an Arabic interface
- Localize (or translate) Common Graphical-User-Interface (GUI)
- Create the ability to take Arabic text files and create various enriched documents (TeX, word, etc)
The Arabeyes project acknowledges the importance of documentation. It is the only way to ensure that Arabization will proceed forward. Documentation creates a concrete foundation which others can refer to and follow in the future.
Enhancements:
- qtquran requires qt-3.0.5 and libquran (libexpat, libspeex and libogg).

Jasmin 1.0.0

Jasmin 1.0.0

Jasmin software distribution includes an implementation of the Script MIB according to RFC 2592 with a Java runtime engine. more>>
Jasmin software distribution includes an implementation of the Script MIB according to RFC 2592 with a Java runtime engine, a selection of demonstration scripts, a Java package called "scriptmib" supporting the development of manager applications for the Script MIB, Smurf, a graphical user interface to the Script MIB, and JAX, a Java package for building AgentX sub-agents.

Jasmin project is a joint project between the Technical University of Braunschweig and NEC C&C Research Laboratories to evaluate and enhance this standard by providing an implementation and studying the implementation with distributed network management applications.

The implementation supports multiple languages and runtime systems. A script MIB extensibility protocol (SMX) allows to plugin additional runtime systems. The SMX protocol definition has been published as RFC 2593 in May 1999. Two runtime systems have been implemented in this project: One is based on the Java virtual machine and another one support Tcl. Appropriate security mechansims are provided in order to protect the system executing management scripts as well as the network managed by the management scripts.

PyLinda 0.5.1

PyLinda 0.5.1

Linda is a widely studied distributed computing environment, centered around the notion of a tuple space. more>>
Linda is an widely studied distributed computing environment, centered around the notion of a tuple space. A tuple space is a bag (also called a multi-set) of tuples.

A tuple is an ordered, typed chunk of data. Tuple spaces exist independently of processes in the system, and the data placed into a tuple space also exist independently. See "Generative communication in Linda" (1985) and "Multiple tuple spaces in Linda" both by David Gelernter for more information on Linda.

PyLinda is a simple implementation of a linda system, however it also includes several of the more recently proposed extensions to Linda in the form of multiple tuple spaces, garbage collection, sane non-blocking primitives and bulk tuple operations.

postPHPix 0.5-1

postPHPix 0.5-1

postPHPix is a PHP-based interface to manage LDAP virtual mail domains. more>>
Postphpix is a mail subsystem based on Postfix and LDAP, it started with a PHP interface to manage mail domains via web, but now it can be managed from command line too through the command phpxadm. I started this project needing a mail subsystem that should be:
.secure
no system users
.scalable
daemons intercommunicates via socket so can be splitted on many phisical servers for high traffic systems using eventually SSL encription
.reliable
after splitting the daemons, you can get systems reduntant using for example heartbeat clustering software, and the ldap database allow you to manage and backup user information quickly or realize a mail folder backup server easily
.packageable
for many years I used Qmail, now I need more license flexibilty, so I decided to study and use Postfix, this architecture is the mail subsystem of the Argo GNU/Linux distribution that soon will be available as free software too
Enhancements:
- /etc/postphpix/postphpixconf.sh moved in /usr/lib/postphpix/

BuddySpace PRO 2.6

BuddySpace PRO 2.6

BuddySpace is an enhanced Jabber client providing secure presence management, web services and instant messaging. more>>
BuddySpace is an instant messenger with four novel twists: (1) it allows optional maps for geographical & office-plan visualizations in addition to standard buddy lists; (2) it is built on open source Jabber, which makes it interoperable with ICQ, MSN, Yahoo and others; (3) it is implemented in Java, so it is cross-platform; (4) it is built by a UK research lab, so it is 100% free with full sources readiily available. But BuddySpace is about more than just messaging, as we explain below.

One of the key factors that led to the widespread popularity of Instant Messaging applications from 1997 onwards (including ICQ, AOL, Yahoo!, MSN, Odigo, and Jabber messengers) was the concept of pushed presence: the automatic notification of the appearance of friends and colleagues online.

However, Instant Messaging (IM) is just one of many possible presence-related and presence-dependent applications. For example, presence-enabled applications can facilitate safety-tracking of children by mobile phone, support for emergency services, blind-date radar, group teleconference management, multiplayer games, and anything involving the collaboration of individuals separated in space and time.

Why phone a contact only to receive an engaged tone or pre-recorded message, when the telephone network already knows what state your contact is in, and could indicate this directly on your contact list? All of these concepts embody varying degrees of what we refer to as enhanced presence management.

The concept of presence has matured in recent years to move away from the simple notion of online/offline/away, towards a rich blend of attributes that can be used to characterise an individuals physical and/or spatial location, work trajectory, time frame of reference, mental mood, goals, and even intentions! Our challenge is how best to characterise presence, how to make it easy to manage and easy to visualise, and how to remain consistent with the users own expectations, work habits, and existing patterns of Instant Messaging and other communication tool usage.

BuddySpace generalizes the concept of Buddy List (popularised by Instant Messaging tools such as AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger) to provide multiple views of collaborative workgroups according to users needs and tastes. Our aim has been to provide a personal dashboard or radar screen so that one can observe the availability and interaction state of colleagues worldwide in a manner that exhibits the following desirable properties:

* immediate: real-time updates need to be pushed instantly to users rather than pulled in by request -- the push approach helps keep updates more palpable and informative
* peripheral and therefore non-intrusive: users lead busy lives, and dislike being bombarded with yet more information, so we aim to keep awareness of colleagues available in a compact manner that can be noticed peripherally
* customisable: some people prefer simple or hierarchical lists, some prefer visual maps, some prefer status lights, and so on; some prefer a Windows look-and-feel, some a Mac-- we need to cater for diverse user preferences and capabilities
* scaleable: we have to provide ways to indicate the presence of potentially enormous numbers of people, even given that these numbers will be filtered down for personal use -- researchers inhabit workspaces with many hundreds of colleagues around the globe; the Open University has well over 150,000 students online; large peer-spaces like music swapping communities have many millions of users connected simultaneously
* interoperable: with several hundred million users of the Big Four (AIM/ICQ/MSN/Yahoo!), it is crucial that any approach allow interopebility with systems to which our users already subscribe; this is one of the many reasons we built BuddySpace entirely on top of Jabber (www.jabber.org), which provides gateways to the Big Four products.
* cross-platform: we need to service a community not only on Windows, Unix/Linux, and Mac desktop and notebook configurations, but also on PDAs and mobile phones -- we therefore develop entirely in Java
* XML-literate: for future intelligent applications, communication transport needs to be about more than just string-transmission; another we adopted Jabber is that it is based entirely on a generic XML transport architecture, ideally suited for this purpose.
* open source: for the research community to join us and to gain leverage via our research output, we have ensured that BuddySpace is open source, available on SourceForge.
* clean: BuddySpace adheres rigorously to the Jabber specification, which means that it interoperates with other Jabber clients and servers without danger of the rogue behaviour that non-standard implementations inadvertently allow (e.g. the semantics of users inhabiting multiple groups is undefined in some clients, and can cause crashes).
* extendable: BuddySpace deploys a plug-in architecture which means that additions, such as new visualizations, and new concepts such as gaming interfaces, are readily achievable

BuddySpace fulfills all the above criteria, and provides a compelling user interface that can be highly compact, yet provide users with an important feel-good factor, akin to seeing nearby office lights turned on when entering ones office building at night. By studying the semantics of presence, we can also augment the existing impoverished presence states in a principles manner, providing capabilities that are more representative of the way real users work. Forthcoming capabilities will include automatic location updates via mobile devices, and the use of semantic matchmaking via intelligent profile handling, in order to help users quickly find and filter colleagues of particular interest.

Pulga 1.1.4

Pulga 1.1.4

Pulga is a program for numerical simulation of dynamical systems. more>>
Pulga is a program for numerical simulation of dynamical systems. Pulga project is designed to provide a way for students and researchers who study dynamical systems to model them on a computer and analyze them numerically without the difficulty of traditional computer programming languages.

As we grow up learning math at school we face the joy of dealing with loads of numbers and their pretty properties but as soon as we start to study the real thing in a university we face our first problem.

Although we love to write complex formulas most of us have not that much fun dealing with computer programming, which has proved to be useful and sometimes even essential for some researchs. And that does not only happens with students as there are some teachers and researchers who have exactly the same fear of facing some code.

The classes could be funier and more dynamic, the students would be able to analyse intricate dynamical systems and researchers would not have to worry to learn the newest trend on computer programming in order to get what they need: whether it is for researching, teaching, simulating or studying, there is a need for an open source tool that should be capable of taking the computer code out of their way.

Advene 0.23

Advene 0.23

Advene is aimed at providing a model and a format to share annotations about digital video document. more>>
Advene (Annotate Digital Video, Exchange on the NEt) is an ongoing project in the LIRIS laboratory (UMR 5205 CNRS) at University Claude Bernard Lyon 1. The project aims at providing a model and a format to share annotations about digital video documents (movies, courses, conferences...), as well as tools to edit and visualize the hypervideos generated from both the annotations and the audiovisual documents.
Teachers, moviegoers, etc. can use them to exchange multimedia comments and analyses about video documents. The project also aims at studying the way that communities of users (teachers, moviegoers, students...) will use these self-publishing tools to share their audiovisual "readings", and to envision new editing and viewing interfaces for interactive comment and analysis of audiovisual content/
Main features:
- At the package creation level : annotation of audiovisual documents (association of typed information to temporal fragments), creation of visualisation means (views).
- Exchange of annotations and visualization modes in packages independently from the audiovisual material (images and sounds). If needed for the visualization of the data, pictures and sound clips can be extracted from the digital video support (e.g. file, DVD). The user of the data is then required to possess the video to take full advantage of the analysis and comments.
- At the package use level : visualisation of augmented movie (the annotations are used to display supplementary information on the video, to control the playing of the video, to navigate the video), visualisation of hypertext documents constructed from annotation and AV material, use of ad-hoc views (e.g. timeline view).
Enhancements:
- This release features a new customizable GUI layout, quick search functionality, usability enhancements in the timeline view, and a number of improvements and bugfixes.
