edictionary 2.2
edictionary is a nifty little application which you can use as your dictionary. more>>
edictionary is a nifty little application which you can use as your dictionary. It will fit quite well into your command line intensive job and its faster than your browser too!
edictionary can be used to view the meaning of English words. It can also provide related details like etymology, function, pronunciation etc. Adding support for other languages is not included, but is easy.
It can grab the meaning of any word from the convenience of the command line. You can ask for meanings of multiple words at once. You can call edictionary from within your scripts.
edictionary is as platform independent as Perl, because, you guessed it, it is written in Perl. Thus, all you need is Perl installed on your machine, and of course, edictionary. FYI, Perl is a platform independent language.
Interpreters are available for Linux, UNIX, Windows and many other platforms, easily. If you are running Linux or UNIX, chances are that you already have Perl installed on your machine.
Enhancements:
- Fix the MW response parser to conform to the new html output.

Rekall 2.2.6
Rekall is the database front-end for KDE and the Web. more>>
Rekall is a database front-end, somewhat in the style of MicroSoft Access. However, Rekall is not itself a database, and does not include a database.
By this we mean that data is stored somewhere else in an SQL server, and Rekall is fundementaly just a tool to extract, display and update that data (of course, it does lots more than that, it does forms and reports and scripting and .... you get the idea).
It is database agnostic, and does not have any preferred database in the sense that Access(tm) uses the Jet. database engine (although the Windows version can use the Jet database engine via an ODBC driver).
Rekall can do lots of the things that you would expect of a database front-end (or if it cant, let us know!). You can design and use forms and reports, you can construct database queries, and you can import and export data (actually, you can copy data, import is just copy file to table, and export is just copy table to file). You can also create reusable components which you can use in forms and reports, to reduce application development time.
Rekall can be scripted using the the Python language. You can arrange that a script is executed when various events occur (for instance, when the user changes the value of a control).
Scripts can be associated directly with the event, but you can also store scripts in script modules for more general use. And, of course, you have full access to all the modules that are available for Python. Plus, Rekall has an integrated Python debugger with syntax highlighting.
RekallRevealed is run as a community website to support the GPL version of Rekall. Rekall is being included by some of the Linux distributions, and commercial components and support are available from TotalRekall and from theKompany.
Enhancements:
Dynamic Layouts
- Dynamic layouts allow you to create forms where controls automatically resize depending on settings such as font sizes, and as the user resizes the form. This is based on QTs layout engine, althougn only a restricted set of functions are available.
Tool Boxes
- Personally, the author is not a fan of tool boxes, but they seem to be popular, so Rekall now supports them. If you still prefer the old context menu mechanism, you can turn tool boxes off.
Wizards
- Lots of the controls now have control wizards which prompt you for the important settings. Hopefully wizards will be avaialble for all controls by the time 2.3.x becomes 2.4.0
Stock Databases
- Stock databases. Rekall will come with some stock databases (actually there is only one at present, the demo database, but more will be added over time) which can be used to create your own database. In addition, you can download stock databases from the web. See the Rekall section on downloading the database that runs this website!
Manual
- The manual can now be accessed via a dedicated manual viewer (loosely modelled on QTs assistant program).
Other stuff
- Lots of bug fixes, lots of other smaller additions.
Enhancements:
- 2.2.6 is the now latest stable release.
- Mostly bug fixes since 2.2.4, particularly a problem related (I believe) to the default style used by Fedora Core 4

bonddb 2.2.6
bonddb is a data abstration layer for SQL. more>>
Bonddb is a object oriented wrapper for postgresql SQL. bonddb project is a fast data abstraction layer written in C for C/C++ applications to allow easy access to class objects.
Bonddb is not a stand alone object orientated database, but works on top of SQL so you still get a solid proven backend with the benefits of things like prescient objects.
At the moment only postgresql is supported, though we are working with gnome-db to support a more complete range of databases.
One of the real advantages of bonddb is how easy it is to modify rows in database fields without you having to construct sql statements or worry about refreshing existing datasets. It also lets you easy map your tables together in object to object relationships.
Method calls arent supported yet but they are on the way. Direct binding into individual langauges is still been worked on.
Installation and Requierments:
In order to install bonddb you need the postgresql client development libraries installed, specifically libpq-fe.
Postgresql 7.0 or higher is required, as bonddb uses functions specific to this version. Also glib development libaries 1.2 or higher is needed.
For bonddb 0.3.0 and higher you will need bison, Ive come across some problems under older versions of bison and I recommend you have version 1.3 or higher installed.
Enhancements:
- Bugs concerning saving records and jumpto searches were fixed.
- Problems with using PostgreSQL 8.2 and OIDs were fixed.
- Improvements were made for the build process for Windows.

GnoTime 2.2.2
GnoTime provides a to-do list organizer and project timer. more>>
GnoTime provides a to-do list organizer and project timer.
GnoTime is a to-do list tracker and project timer with a built-in invoice generator. It allows users to keep track of how much time they have spent working on particular tasks, maintain a diary of that work, and create invoices with task-specific billing fees and rates.
Main features:
- Multiple To-Do Lists that can be sorted by the priority/importance of the tasks in the list. The to-do items can be organized into categories, arranged in a hierarchical way. This makes it easy to maintain both business and personal items in the list, or handle many different projects, while keeping them separate from each other.
- A pair of Diary/Journal areas that can be used to keep long and detailed notes and diary entries. The project description area allows a multi-paragraph description or status to be typed in. The diary area allows day-to-day notes to be associated with a set of timestamps, so that one has a record of what one did on any given day.
- A Running Timer, with time totals, for each project/task. One starts the timer by clicking on a task: it will measure the amount of time that you are in front of the computer. If it detects that the keyboard/mouse are idle, it will stop the clock. If the clock stays stopped too long, it will nag you to start it up again. You can view time totals by day, week, month or year.
- A Billing Status dialog for each diary entry. You can mark any given diary entry as bill-able/non-bill-able, paid or pending, and set the billing rate. Each project can also be marked up with a set of project-planning information: planed start, end and due dates, hours to finish, percent-complete. This is in addition to assigning an urgency/importance to each project, as well as a status (completed/in-progress not-started/canceled).
- A half-dozen different HTML Reports that can slice and dice your lists. Theres a Journal report that shows all of the diary entries for one given project. Theres an Invoice report that summarizes the time spent on each entry, and computes a dollar amount for it. Theres a Status Report that prints the title of each project, together with the paragraph-long descriptions of each. Theres a ToDo report, which prints only the project title, the importance/urgency, and the completed/in-progress/not-started status. The Daily report summarizes the total time spent on a day-by-day basis, and lists each of the projects that were worked on in a given day. Each of these reports can be customized. And, because theyre HTML, you can even publish them as web pages. (Yes, Ive thought of using GnoTime as a weblog management/publishing tool).
Enhancements:
- Build against QOF version 0.6.0, if available.
- Fix issue where yelp doesnt display an entry for gnotime when browsing because it doesnt recognize the entry
- Fix sourceforge bug [ 799077 ] projects blanked when first time user tries to sort

bobot++ 2.2.2
bobot++ is an IRC bot written in C++. more>>
Bobot++ project is the C++ version of the IRC bot bobot written by Etienne Bernard and Bartman.
Main features:
- No backdoor: there are no backdoors in the bobot++. You are free to believe me or not, but unlike many other bots, this one has no backdoor (you can always read the source). Note that there is an hidden command, but this command is not designed to take control of the bot
- Multichannel: A bobot++ can join as many channels as you want
- Flood control: It will ignore people flooding it
- Output rate control and priority handling: The bobot++ will send its commands to the server at the highest possible rate (ie as fast as possible without making an ``excess flood). The most important commands (MODEs, etc.) are sent first
- Time dependant commands: you can ban people for a fixed amount of time. This is really useful in order not to fill the banlist
- Complex online help system: each user can have the list of the commands he can execute. Each command has its description in the help system
- Four user levels (user, trusted user, friend and master), three different protections (no kick, no ban and no deop) and possible auto-op. Note that trusted user is created to permit the use of wildcards on dangerous commands such as kick, or ban
- Support for combined join and channel op of 2.9 servers on IRCNet (this feature will be suppressed from the servers, but it may remain useful...)
- Logging of commands and events
- ``Intelligent ban and deban
- Password protection on accounts, expiration dates on user accounts
- Anti-spoof: one can not acquire operator priviledges spoofing the bot
- Optional support of scripts written in Scheme (using guile)
Enhancements:
- No longer segfaults when loading bobot-utils.scm
- bot:match-to-me produces a valid regexp again
- scripts/uname now properly uses (ice-9 rdelim) instead of redelim
- bot:load now loads files properly

mod_fcgid 2.2
mod_fcgid has a new process management strategy, which concentrates on reducing the number of fastcgi server. more>>
mod_fcgid is an Apache module that has a new process management strategy, which concentrates on reducing the number of fastcgi server, and kick out the corrupt fastcgi server as soon as possible.
Binary compatibility to mod_fastcgi
You dont need to recompile your existing fastcgi programs, what you need to do is install the module and make it work.
Strict control on process spawn
Every request handler of Apache (It may be a process, or a thread, depending on the MPM) knows about how many existing fastcgi servers are running (with the help of share memory) , and the request handlers collaborate with each other to make sure over-spawning is not going to happen.
Simple spawning-speed control strategy
Its a score-based strategy, the score increases while a process is spawned or terminated, and decreases as time progresses;while the score is higher than the score maximum, the spawning will be held. Thus it can make a prompt response to the requests especially when the system starts up: on the other hand, prevent the failure resulted from the immediate termination of the applications.
Fastcgi server error detection
The fastcgi server does not share the same UNIX domain socket (or named pipe, in Windows), every fastcgi server has a unique path listening on. That makes it easy to kick out the corrupt fastcgi server.
Portable
Use the Apache APR library as much as possible, and split the portable and un-portable source code. All un-portable code are organized in arch directory. Now the module is tested on Linux, FreeBSD( included in FreeBSD port now), Windows 2000 and Solaris.
PHP supported
PHP is NOT recommended to work with multithreaded Apache2(worker MPM and WinNT MPM, for example), because some PHP extensions( or 3rd party library they are using) are not guaranteed thread-safe. PHP running with FastCGI mode is a solution to this problem.
<<lessBinary compatibility to mod_fastcgi

ProzGUI is a frontend for ProZilla download manager.
ProZilla is a download accelerator for Linux which gives you a 200% to 300% improvement in your file downloading speeds.
ProzGUI major features:
- Supports FTP & HTTP including redirection (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
- Resume Supported (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
- Complete acceleration: The file will be downloaded as fast as possible as your bandwidth allows if not otherwise specified (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
- Unlike certain other download accelerators available for Linux, this really works.
- The number of connections that prozilla uses can be specified (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
- FTPsearch support now permits fetching Mirror locations and pinging them and selecting the fastest server is automatically done (ProZilla & ProzGUI).
- Downloading the same file in parts from several servers at once to increase speed (ProzGUI).
Main features:
- ProzGUI has proxy support for proxy users, and better redirection facilities and bandwith limiting support, downloading from multiple servers simultaneously based on ping times returned from ftpsearching.com for the file It supports adding urls, resuming, preferences, and a couple of other basic features.
- It should speed up the downloads depending on the number of connections you make and the type of connection you have by as much as 200-300% generally.
