Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force 1.36

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force 1.36

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force is a modification to the icculus.org maintained quake3 engine. more>>
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force is a modification to the icculus.org maintained quake3 engine
to make it possible to run EliteForce holomatch. This means: you can *not* play single player missions with this project.
This engine has full compatibility for the newer _and_ the original EliteForce protocol, clients using the original engine can use newer servers, and clients using my engine can use old servers, too.

Now, the next few paragraphs are just some random blabla about the advantages of this release, but if you want to you can just skip it and go right to the installation instructions.

What was the motivation for me doing this project?

It actually started pretty small.. The Quake3 source has been released more than half a year ago and I got the crazy idea to try the quake3 engine with EliteForce on my trusted Gentoo Linux.

When I started the program first the screen went black and nothing happened... nearly nothing. I heard some sounds and when I moved the cursor I heard random click-clicks from the mouse going over some menu buttons. This meant this stuff is not completely incompatible after all, it didnt crash right away though that was exactly what I expected it to do. I digged in Ravens multiplayer source that they released (only the virtual machine stuff, to allow for building modifications) and compared it to quake3s virtual machines and realized that there was a small
incompatibility in one of the data structures used to pass information between engine and virtual machine. It was nothing big and after fixing this the menu worked!

There were some quirks here or there, but most of the menu really worked. So it got me thinking: If I fix all these incompatibilities.. maybe I can finally play my beloved multiplayer game Ive been clinging to for over 5 years on my favorite OS natively.. and IPv6 support for EliteForce would be pretty cool too...

So a crazy idea was turned into a serious project. I had to add support for Ravens models, playing mp3s, EliteForces own network protocol. My goal was to make this release as close to the original as possible. Most of the time, I only could guess what names and functions would mean to the engine or I had to compare the original game and then try to make it work the same way in my engine.

The quake3 game relies heavily on floating point operations. Unfortunately, the original EliteForce engine does non-ISO compliant rounding of floating point numbers to integers in the VMs. The game VM uses that flaw which will result in higher jumping for certain com_maxfps settings. As with the new engine there are many platforms that can be supported, there are probably many different ways one has to take to revert the rounding to the old behaviour. This is nearly impossible to do, so I had to use a different approach: build new VMs.

Stardork project is a Linux console-based space shooter/maze game.

Stardork is a Linux console based game where (.)s represent stars and are randomly placed on the screen.

(X) represents your space ship and you move in in all directions, including diagonally, to position yourself to shoot the goal (@).

You can also shoot missles in all directions. If you run into a star you lose power. If you shoot or run into the goal then you move up a level and more random stars are plotted.

This eventually creates a more and more complex maze of stars you must nagivate through to position yourself to shoot the goal.

Beat all 34 levels and you are a master stardork.

Sphere RPG Engine 1.0

Sphere RPG Engine 1.0

Sphere RPG Engine project is a role-playing game creation engine. more>>
Sphere RPG Engine project is a role-playing game creation engine.

Sphere is a RPGCE (a role-playing game (RPG) creation engine) that allows you to relatively easily put together an RPG along the lines of Final Fantasy 6 or Phantasy Star.

It supports 32-bit graphics (with 256 levels of translucency) and MP3, Ogg, MOD, S3M, IT, and XM files for audio (and WAV and SPX (speex) for sound effects), and does not place arbitrary limits on map, tile set, sprite set, or script sizes.

It also supports the three standard modes of input for games: keyboard, mouse, and joystick.

Sphere uses SpiderMonkey (Mozillas JavaScript implementation) for scripting. JavaScript is a very powerful, easy, and flexible language.

The core Sphere engine, after being installed, can run several games. This means that the games dont have to be distributed with the engine, saving download time and disk space. Also, the games can be run on other operating systems, such as Linux, if the engine runs there. On the other hand, you can include the Sphere engine with your game so that Windows users can run your game out of the box.

The Sphere engine is based around maps. Maps use tilesets, which are collections of tiles. A map of a beach would have tiles that represent the sand, the water, clouds, signs, and anything else on the beach. Sphere has support for animated tiles.

Torches could flicker in a cave, or waves could lap at the shore. Maps support unlimited layers, each with parallax and automatic scrolling.

Objects in Sphere are represented as entities. Townspeople are defined with spritesets, which are collections of frames. People can walk in eight directions, and have special directions (usually used for emotions or running). Unlike most RPG engines, spritesets in Sphere have a variable size. Large animal spritesets are used just as easily as people.

G-Star 0.1.3

G-Star 0.1.3

G-Star project is a clone of the TI-8x calculator game D-Star. more>>
G-Star project is a clone of the TI-8x calculator game D-Star which are all clones of an HP48 game of the same name.

G-Star currently includes 25 levels: 20 from the HP48 version, and 5 from the TI-83 version of the game. I am planning on adding additional levels to the game as well as some new rules.

In G-Star you control two pieces: the circle and the square. Your goal is to get all of the stars on the level by moving the circle over them. The difficult part is that the pieces are unable to stop themselves once they begin moving.

Once they are set in motion (by you), they continue to move until they run into something. Currently there is no score tracking, but I will probably base the score on the number of moves it takes you to complete a level and the amount of time it takes.

DropTeam 1.2.2 DEMO

DropTeam 1.2.2 DEMO

DropTeam is an online multiplayer FPS for Linux. more>>
DropTeam is an online multiplayer FPS for Linux.
DropTeam combines accurate physics and ballistic systems, intelligent and realistic unit and weaponry capabilities with fast paced action set in a stark future of humanity. This Public Test is being offered in three different formats. One for Mac, one for Windows and one for Linux. This marks the first title published by Battlefront.com to offer Linux support!
Main features:
- A rich, fleshed out universe complete with a engaging back story and detailed history.
- Realistic combat system that models projectile/armor penetration, various munition types, and interior vehicle damage in detail.
- Huge, detailed and varied alien landscapes each planet accurately modeling its own gravity and atmospheric density, radically changing the tactical situation.
- Map sizes up to a massive 1000 (!) square kilometers.
- Terrain height resolutions from small ridges and vehicle fighting positions to towering hills and mountains.
- Deformable terrain with engineering vehicles digging out trenches in real time, ordnance created surface cratering and even trees toppling over under artillery fire.
- Dynamic environmental effects include building destruction and vehicles exploding and flipping over.
- Support for enhanced graphics effects including advanced shaders and High Dynamic Range rendering.
- Terrain uses dynamic tessellation (continuous Level of Detail) to render high resolution terrain at large sizes.
- Up to 16 human players or more supported, depending on system specs. Maximum online players realistically only limited by game server bandwidth, CPU and RAM.
More background and info on the game can be found on the DropTeam webpage located here.
The purpose of this release is to test DropTeams network functionality with a large number of players. Anyone can play for free in order to help us test DropTeam but this build has the following important restrictions:
1. Single player is disabled. You can only play network games with this release. The full version of the game includes single player skirmish games and a single player campaign.
2. This release only allows you to play 2 scenarios. The full version of the game includes 21 scenarios with more available for free download after release.
3. This is a test release, which means the game isnt finished yet. It definitely still has bugs. We greatly appreciate your help in finding and fixing them all!
Apart from these restrictions, this is a fully functional release. Players can use all of the dozens of vehicles and deployable items in the game. The two included scenarios are "Ice Field" and "Raid". Ice Field takes place on the frozen wasteland of Arcanum, a once-inhabitable planet orbiting Luytens Star that has had its climate devastated by bombardments from the Mu Arae Entente. The Raid scenario takes place on an inhabitable moon called Hopewell. Hopewell orbits a gas giant in the Wolf 9773 star system. Almost half of the moons surface, called "The Scorch", is a radioactive Hell created by the destruction of an antimatter station that used to orbit the gas giant. The remainder of Hopewell has recovered from this disaster and is once again beginning to flourish with vegetation and a growing human population.
This release includes everything needed to connect to servers and play on the Internet or on Local Area Networks on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X Tiger. It also includes everything needed for players to run their own public or private servers. This is important since there will be a limited number of public servers made available by TBG. We plan to run only 6 servers for this public test release so players might need to run their own servers if they want to play frequently.

Gang-star 0.1

Gang-star 0.1

Gang-star is somewhat like the drugwars game but with much more functionality. more>>
Gang-star is somewhat like the drugwars game but with much more functionality. You could see it as a text-based GTA game. Gang-star project is fully text-based and does not have any dependencies. All you need for it to run is a C compiler.

The advantage of gang-star being text-based is that you can use your own imagination, compare it with reading a nice book over seeing a lame movie. You can play over 30 missions, have a gamble at the casino or the horse tracks, go to the nightclub to score some chicks, buy weapons and practice at the local shooting range, and much, much more.

Overview

Gang-star is a text-based game for the UNIX Operating System. You could see it as a text-based version of the infamous Grand Theft Auto game. At first glance you might think gang-star can be compared to the Drugwars game family but gang-star is far more advanced. The game is not about dealing drugs, the game is about the missions.

You start out in Gang-star city as a complete rookie. You have a little cash, no weapons, no nothing. The goal of the game is to become the biggest bad-ass in the city. To accomplish this goal you have to finish up to 30 missions. Next to this you can do a lot of other stuff, like playing the chicks in the nightclub, have a drink in the bar, play some games at the casino, gamble on horses at the racetracks, deal in weed, crack and speed, pimp hookers, and much, much more.

The game is not based on chance like a lot of games. What makes the game interesting is that your skills are upgraded the more you do it. The more shots you fire, the better your aim. The more respect you have, the easier you can hit on chicks, etc.

For a long time the UNIX Operating Sytem has lacked an expanded and fun game with no dependencies at all that would run on any system, but now its here. Welcome to Gang-Star.

Installation

To configure, compile and install gang-star, type:

% ./configure
% make
# make install (logged in as root)

Some people dont seem to get it, so heres how to use gang-star locally, without root access (e.g. on a shell account):

% ./configure
% make
% cd src
% ./gang-star

make compiles the gang-star sources and installs a binary in the src/ directory. You change your current working directory to src/ and locally execute gang-star.
