POT 1.3

POT 1.3

The goal of Pot (PHP Object Template) is to totally divide the logic of a Web site from the design. more>>
The goal of Pot (PHP Object Template) is to totally divide the logic of a Web site from the design. Pot can be used by "common" people just by writing some XML tags in the HTML code.
The project supports technologies like Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, animated objects, and form data checking. Using your favourite WYSIWYG editor (like Dreamweaver or GoLive), you can create HTML pages where you place a tag wherever you need and write the required Pot parameter and value tags. There are 41 objects ready to be used.
Enhancements:
- This release has some bugfixes and initial support for AJAX (Javascript and DOM management).

UpYours! 0.1.3

UpYours! 0.1.3

UpYours! provides a simple file upload cgi-bin that can be used instead of FTP. more>>
UpYours! provides a simple file upload cgi-bin that can be used instead of FTP.

Sometimes, you just need to upload a file and you dont have your crypto bits handy.In this day and age, people should always use scp (or pscp.exe) to copy files around, but users are users, and even clueful people sometimes find themselves in a position where its not easy, convenient or even possible to use anything but a stupid web interface (a kiosk on a conference floor for example).

UpYours! is a simple solution to this problem.The idea is to provide a way for file uploads to occur that:

(a) doesnt leak information about the server to the (potentially malicious) client;
(b) does not present anything useful to people who want to use the server as a drop-point for files;
(c) does not open the server up to DoS attacks;
(d) is simple to use, and can be deployed over http and https;
(e) does not force the client to reveal any secret information

ProFTPD 1.3.0a

ProFTPD 1.3.0a

ProFTPD is a proven, high-performance, scalable FTP server. more>>
ProFTPD is a proven, high-performance, scalable FTP server written from scratch, with a focus toward simplicity, security, and ease of configuration. Naturally, ProFTPD powers some of the largest sites on the Internet.
ProFTPD features a very Apache-like configuration syntax, modules, and a highly customizable server infrastructure, including support for multiple virtual FTP servers, anonymous FTP, and permission-based directory visibility.
Main features:
- Single main configuration file, with directives and directive groups which are intuitive to any administrator who has ever used the Apache web server.
- Per directory ".ftpaccess" configuration similar to Apaches ".htaccess".
- Easy to configure multiple virtual FTP servers and anonymous FTP services.
- Designed to run either as a stand-alone server or from inetd/xinetd, depending on system load.
- Anonymous FTP root directories do not require any specific directory structure, system binaries or other system files.
- No SITE EXEC command. In modern Internet environments, such commands are a security nightmare. ProFTPD does not execute any external programs at any time. The source is available (and must always be available) for administrators to audit.
- Hidden directories and files, based on Unix-style permissions or user/group ownership.
- Runs as a configurable non-privileged user in stand-alone mode in order to decrease chances of attacks which might exploit its "root" abilities. Note: This feature is dependent on the capabilities of the host Unix system.
- Logging and utmp/wtmp support. Logging is compatible with the wu-ftpd standard, with extended logging available.
- Shadow password suite support, including support for expired accounts.
- Modular design, allowing server to be extended easily with modules. Modules have been written for SQL databases, LDAP servers, SSL/TLS encryption, RADIUS support, etc.
- IPv6 support.

CSSTidy 1.3

CSSTidy 1.3

CSSTidy is an opensource CSS parser and optimizer. more>>
CSSTidy is an opensource CSS parser and optimizer. The project is available as executeable file (available for Windows, Linux and OSX) which can be controlled per command line and as PHP script (both with almost the same functionality).
In opposite to most other CSS parsers, no regular expressions are used and thus CSSTidy has full CSS2 support and a higher reliability.
Main features:
- colours like "black" or rgb(0,0,0) are converted to #000000 or rather #000 if possible. Some hex-codes are replaced by their colour names if they are shorter.
- a{property:x;property:y;} becomes a{property:y;} (all duplicate properties are merged)
- margin:1px 1px 1px 1px; becomes margin:1px;
- margin:0px; becomes margin:0;
- a{margin-top:10px; margin-bottom:10px; margin-left:10px; margin-right:10px;} becomes a{margin:10px;}
- margin:010.0px; becomes margin:10px;
- all unnecessary whitespace is removed, depending on the compression-level
- all background-properties are merged
- all comments are removed
- the last semicolon in every block can be removed
- missing semicolons are added, incorrect newlines in strings are fixed, missing units are added, bad colors (and color names) are fixed
- property:value ! important; becomes property:value !important.
Why optimise?
If you optimise your CSS code you have faster loading pages and lower traffic costs. So both you and your visitors benefit from an optimisation. If you are interested in a faster loading webpage, websiteoptimization.com might also be an interesting resource.
Compression ratio
The compression ratio mostly depends on the level of whitespace-removal. Using standard whitespace-removal (which preserves the readability) the compression ratio often is 30% and more. In theory the compression ratio can be 99,99% but only very "stupid" stylesheets will allow those ratios. Also have a look at the examples.
Apart from compression
If a high compression is not important for you, you can also use CSSTidy to format or fix CSS code for a higher browser compatibility. Apart from the 4 default templates you can specify custom templates so that you can easily format a lot of CSS code using your own coding style. Other features are sorting and changing the case of selectors and properties.
Enhancements:
- Note: This is the last version of CSSTidy. If youd like continue maintaining it, let me know.
- FS#146 - Quotes
- FS#147 - Universal selector before classes, IDs and attribute selectors
- FS#150 - Wrong trasformation of a big integer value
- FS#144 ? !important rule
- FS#140: Fixing Values of Invalid properties
- [ 1745894 ] @media merge strangeness (cssTidy.exe version)
- FS#143: Save some more bytes

PloneAtom 0.1.3

PloneAtom 0.1.3

PloneAtom provides Atom support for Plone. more>>
PloneAtom provides Atom support for Plone.

This is a Plone product (that could probably be trivially modified for the CMF itself) which provides Atom support for Plone. Currently it provides the Atom syndication format for folderish objects, in the same way as RSS syndication is implemented.

Enabling Atom syndication

Atom syndication is enabled in exactly the same way as RSS syndication. To enable syndication on the site in general:

.Login as an admin user.

.Go to Plone Setup and choose Zope Management Interface

.Select the Properties tab in the portal_syndication tool.

.Click enable syndication. Then, to enable syndication support for a particular folderish object:

.Login as a user who has Owner/Manager permission for the folder.

.Surf to that folder and select the syndication tab.

.Click Enable syndication. Dont worry about the syndication options it gives you -- they are not used by atom (and ignored in most RSS clients, from what Ive seen).

WMCpu 1.3

WMCpu 1.3

WMCpu is a dockapp CPU monitor resembling Xosview. more>>
WMCpu is a dockapp CPU monitor resembling Xosview. Displays system/user/nice/idle CPU statistics, and also system uptime. Supports 2.2 or 2.4 kernels.

This is a pretty boring looking CPU monitor dockapp. Its not sexy, not fast, and not really useful either. This is something I started back in 1998 and I guess I really havent had time to play with it since then.

T. Sander sent me a couple fixes for the display problems, so I got motivated to look at this mess and see what I can do with it.

If you havent used XosView, this might be a little puzzling for you. But what you need to do is get XosView and run it for a few minutes and youll understand what this dockapp does.

Installation:

1) % tar -zxvf wmcpu-1.3.tar.gz
2) % cd wmcpu-1.3
3) % make
4) % make install
5) % wmcpu & (or wmcpu -h for help)

wmUpMon 0.1.3

wmUpMon 0.1.3

wmUpMon is a dockapp that displays your system uptime in realtime. more>>
wmUpMon is a dockapp that displays your system uptime in realtime.
Installation:
The `configure shell script attempts to guess correct values for various system-dependent variables used during compilation.
It uses those values to create a `Makefile in each directory of the package. It may also create one or more `.h files containing system-dependent definitions.
Finally, it creates a shell script `config.status that you can run in the future to recreate the current configuration, a file `config.cache that saves the results of its tests to speed up
reconfiguring, and a file `config.log containing compiler output (useful mainly for debugging `configure).
If you need to do unusual things to compile the package, please try to figure out how `configure could check whether to do them, and mail diffs or instructions to the address given in the `README so they can be considered for the next release.
If at some point `config.cache contains results you dont want to keep, you may remove or edit it.
The file `configure.in is used to create `configure by a program called `autoconf. You only need `configure.in if you want to change it or regenerate `configure using a newer version of `autoconf.
The simplest way to compile this package is:
1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system.
If youre using `csh on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure instead to prevent `csh from trying to execute
`configure itself.
Running `configure takes awhile. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.
2. Type `make to compile the package.
3. Optionally, type `make check to run any self-tests that come with the package.
4. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.
5. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean. To also remove the files that `configure created (so you can compile the package for a different kind of computer), type `make distclean.
There is also a `make maintainer-clean target, but that is intended mainly for the packages developers. If you use it, you may have to get all sorts of other programs in order to regenerate files that came with the distribution.
Enhancements:
- Fixed a compile issue for systems with older C compilers

phpWebApp 1.3

phpWebApp 1.3

phpWebApp is an application framework which makes easy and simple the task of building PHP web applications. more>>
phpWebApp is an application framework which makes easy and simple the task of building PHP web applications based on relational databases. It separates the task of designing and changing the layout of the application from the task of implementing the logic of the application, by using XML templates that are an extension of XHTML.
The project also simplifies the task of implementing the logic of the application by offering an event based programming model. In addition, phpWebApp tries to offer modularity and code reusability to the community of webApp developers.
Main features:
- The framework separates the layout from the logic of the application, so a graphical designer can easily improve the layout of the application without getting messed with the logic and without having to understand it. It makes easier the work of both the graphical designer and the programer. This also facilitates an iterative and incremental development approach for web application projects.
- The framework gives the possibility to divide a page into several parts which can be used in other pages as well. This makes the user interface of the application (the layout, the graphical part) more structured and easier to understand and maintain and makes easier the work of the graphical designer.
- The framework looks at web applications from a new point of view. From this point of view, a web application is a state machine, which can be represented and described by one or more statechart diagrams. Each page of the application that is displayed, represents the application in a certain state. Clicking to a link causes a transition to another state of the application. This simplifies the design and the implementation of web applications. Later, if this point of view is formalised and elaborated enough, it may provide the theoretical bases for automatic code generation of web applications from state chart diagrams (e.g. from UML state chart diagrams), and for reverse engineering.
- The framework supports an event based programing model. When a transition from one state of the application to another happens, it may trigger an event as well, which is handled by a function (event handler). This makes the logic of the application easy to build, understand and maintain, and makes easy the work of the web programer.
- The framework gives to the web programers the possibility to create independent web components (called WebBox-es) which have their own user interface (graphical design), client side behaviour, server side behaviour, states, events, event handlers, etc. These components can be very easily reused in other web applications and thus provide code reusability to web programers. This means that if you have constructed something once, you dont have to re-construct it again when you need it another time, but use it ready.
- The framework brings closer the client-side and the server-side logic of a web application. E.g. the session variables (which are usually used to keep the state of various parts of the application), are available and can be accessed both on client side and on server side.
- The framework makes the interaction with the database almost database independent. This means that in case that you decide to change the database on which your application is based (e.g. switching from MySQL to Oracle), then the application itself doesnt need to be changed at all, it will work all the same.
Enhancements:
- Bugfixes and some improvements in documentation were made.
